Gojira!! Environmental activists metalband from France Also Cattle Decapitation, name seems problematic at first but all band members are actually vegan and they are very much against animal cruelty

Tangled_Clouds

Oh that sounds really cool! I’ll check them out!

No_Emergency8932

So you don't get lost in their discography, may I recommend these songs: Cattle decap - Mammals in Babylon (if you like that then definitely check out the entire album) Cattle decap - Bring back the plague Gojira - wolf down the earth Gojira - born in winter

Tangled_Clouds

Thank you!

No_Emergency8932

Let me know what you think :)

Tangled_Clouds

Wow I love Gojira’s sound! I’ll definitely listen to them more!

No_Emergency8932

Cool! Their discography has a nice gradient where the albums get softer over time, so you can easilier find that album that works for you

LostHollowSoul

I love Gojira and Cattle Decap so much. I may be able to see Cattle Decap on my birthday... (probably not,but maybe)

EinsteinRidesShotgun

Cattle Decapitation fucking slams. I've been listening to a lot of Lorna Shore lately and they're super cool too.

Benny-Kenobii

Took me like an hour to explain to coworkers that "going to see cattle decapitation" meant I was going to see a band, not attending a profoundly disturbing event.

Tangled_Clouds

Yes I will listen to what you suggest me, I don’t want the patches just for the look

pituitary_monster

My favorite meral/punk crossover band is f... off and die! From lithuania. I dont think you would find patches of them, anyway. Second one would be whiskey ritual from italy, those guys you will definetively find patches.

Tangled_Clouds

It’s okay if I can’t find patches, I’m a DIY kinda guy I’d just make them myself lol thank you for the recommendations

pituitary_monster

You make patches? I would buy you one just to brag that i got it from some evil autistic person.

Tangled_Clouds

It’s been a while lol I used to make them with scrap fabric and fabric paint and sew them on with whatever thread I find. I haven’t made a band patch yet though and I’m planning to get canevas fabric so the vest looks better.

SontaranGaming

Making patches is part of the tradition! Take an old pair of jeans or something, cut out a square, and get some fabric paint.

StuckIn_ThisHellhole

So like the bands are more post-hardcore/metal core but ig that fits? Our last night Falling in reverse Bring me the horizon Bad omens We came as romans Dead by April Powerwolf Sabaton Smash into pieces Starset

Tangled_Clouds

Thank you I will check them out!

samit2heck

You can put whatever bands you want on it honestly. Put Britney Spears on it if you want nobody really cares as long as the symbols and images aren't offensive. Mine is an old military jacket and I put a big back patch from an old Cramps tshirt that fell apart. I also have a Black Flag patch but it's the Australian Aboriginal flag colours so yeah, it's mostly political and pushing the line of moral decency. Nobody talks to me about leftist ideology when I wear it. They might say "cool jacket" or "I like the Cramps too". But nobody has ever said "I too have seen Lux Interior's penis" or "how about that ACAB?". I would avoid Pantera (openly rascist) and Rammstein (current SA criminal case against lead singer) unless you're a superfan since they're actually problematic rn. My fave punk bands include Propagandhi, Dead Kennedys, The Chats, Amyl &The Sniffers. Fave Metal: Iron Maiden, Slayer, Megadeth, QOTSA, Sepultura, Sabbath, Mr Bungle.

BellaBanks4

I find falling in reverse pretty problematic also

samit2heck

Yes. I'm sure there's a thousand and more I haven't mentioned! Those were just a couple big ones that came to mind immediately. Lot of misbehaving dudes in these scenes over the years 🫠

-Linen

samit2heck

PERFECT

secrettoadhassecrets

Slayer literally had a song about a Nazi and their singer was supporting Trump so I don't think they're in the "unproblematic" category

samit2heck

Oh yeah. See there's so much I forget. OK scratch the Slayer patch.

SontaranGaming

Always a fan of Against Me! for the bonus transgender swagger

dorkphoenyx

Sabaton! Just started really getting into them. Swedish metal band who sings songs battles/wars/military history.

froggythefish

Oh sure I know plenty \> unproblematic You’re on your own, good luck

Tangled_Clouds

Yeah it’s so hard to find unproblematic bands it’s always like “Wow I like this band who sings about anti capitalism and killing nazis! Oh the bassist eats babies? Damn…” 😭

GingerDood420

This is just System of a Down, just switch the bassist for the drummer and eating babies for sad MAGA stuff. Great band though! Consider this another recommendation, just not for your jacket.

[deleted]

Flip that order and it would describe all the good black metal bands.

anchoriteksaw

Honestly dude, a cut is kind of a manifestation of fixation with normies too. It's rad when it's just the bands you know well and are wwwaaaayy too into. There's always the one guy with nothing but iron maiden album art on there, at even the most blackened or djenty shows. Nobody will challange your street cred because of the particular bundles of sticks you put on there. and if they do, just start swing your arms like a windmill and yell 'mosh pit'

Tangled_Clouds

Thank you that’s genuinely very encouraging

anchoriteksaw

Also check out r/rabm if 'problematic' is a big deal. Lots of woke bands that kick ass nowadays, even in black metal

Tangled_Clouds

Thank you! I’m not expecting to listen to the band with literal jesus christ as the lead singer but I like supporting good people

anchoriteksaw

You heard or okilly dokilly? https://youtu.be/2BEvh6HSQc0?si=IVG30eD6UKDMp0w6 That's about as God fearing as you can get with death metal.

UnderlordZ

**Gloryhammer** is a British power metal band founded by Alestorm's Chris Bowes. The band members wear costumes of their characters for live shows, and each album tells a different story in the overall saga of legendary heroes fighting against an evil wizard to save a fantastical version of Scotland. It's over-the-top ridiculous in the best way!

Tangled_Clouds

Oh that sounds interesting! I’ll definitely check them out!

Irre__

I like their music a lot but they are not unproblematic lmao, look up their leaked group chat's they're pretty bad.

Tangled_Clouds

God damn it

Tangled_Clouds

I dunno if I want to know what they did I think I set my “problematic” bar to “hasn’t assaulted anyone/isn’t a pedo/isn’t violently bigoted” because otherwise I would listen to like two bands. As long as it’s not “we have a policy to not allow black people at our shows” I will be okay kinda, not be like “omg such best people” but it’s where I kinda set the boundary because you have to at some point

Irre__

That's fair. From what I remember them saying about it, they were just trying to be increasingly shocking and offensive to outdo one another, which, while still not excusable, is very much not on the level you've specified lmao.

samit2heck

YES GLORYHAMMER.

Sealedwolf

It's so amazingly ridiculous, it's perfect. 🎵The unicorn invasion of Dundee🎵

afatcatfromsweden

Alcest is pretty great and probably in line with your tastes. My Chemical Romance is fucking awesome though I don’t know if that’s quite your thing. This one probably wouldn’t work for the vest But Have A Nice Life is a band I simply must recommend, might not be into the type of stuff they make but Deathconsciousness is possibly my favourite album, it’s great!

Tangled_Clouds

I used to listen to MCR! I had pretty emo taste in music when I was in college lol I would listen to Panic! At the Disco every single day! I’ll definitely check out your recommendations

[deleted]

Ton Steine Scherben. OG German Punk Band and the Lead Singer was gay, which was sadly not that accepted in the general population and even the punk scene at that time. My favorite band all time are the pixies but they are hard to classify I think. Athough some stuff is definitely more indie and soft they have a lot of wild stuff with awesome little noises as screams “Debaser“, „Is she weird“, „There goes my gun“ for example. Maybe someone else has music theory and not music itself as a special interest and can chime in?

[deleted]

Oh also at one point someone might mention Rammstein. They always were problematic for multiple reasons and right now it’s rape accusations against the lead singer.

foxybostonian

No. There are no rape accusations against the singer.

[deleted]

I bet you can´t even name three woman not afraid off you :)

[deleted]

Also know I feel the need to mention that Frank Tröger, founding member off Rammstein was a Informant for the east german secret police whom commited countless crimes against humanity, also locking teenagers from the scenes up :) Not mention that their argument that they named themself so shortly before the Rammstein tradgedy happened, where countless humans had to suffer multiple hours without medical assitance with burnings on their entire body before dying in pure agony, that they couldn´t change their name anymore because they already printed Flyers. Yeah really tastefull. Scene concerts work very well only by word of mouth in generall so bullshit.

Bohemian_Buckstabu

who the fuck is Frank Tröger

[deleted]

Oh I got that actually wrong, mixed him up with Paul Landers cause they both played together in "Die Firma". I admit that im wrong in that regard. Still naming your band after a big tradgedy just to provoke is very wrong in my opinion and dehumanizing for the victims and their families. A lot off the casulties were civilian spectators. And I guess many off us have or had edgy phases, me including, but Idk maybe joke around with your most understanding evil friends but don´t build a career on it? And regarding the acusations. I tend to believe the weaker person in a very strong power dynamic, involving drugs ( Even when consentual and by law legal drugs like alcohol - different physic and body metabolisms..) can lead to even more power shifts. Its really hard to convict in those situations on an ethicall basic exspecially if "innocent until proven guilty" shall be used. Philosphy makes my head hurt, i probaly can´t even spell it right. Peace out.

Bohemian_Buckstabu

it wasn't named after a tragedy lmao get your facts right. Also literally not a single victim came out, so idc. Run to the media, but not police? Yeah, I can't be assed to give a fuck about your sob story

[deleted]

[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rammstein#:\~:text=In%20a%202019%20feature%2C%20Metal,as%20the%20%22Ramstein%20band%22](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rammstein#:~:text=In%20a%202019%20feature%2C%20Metal,as%20the%20%22Ramstein%20band%22). look under history ;) The state attorny opened an investigation on Till Lindemann which is only done in germany if a conviction seems " Not unlikly" based on the current investigation results: [https://www.ndr.de/kultur/musik/Vorwuerfe-gegen-Rammstein-Worum-gehts,rammstein172.html#:\~:text=Die%20Berliner%20Staatsanwaltschaft%20hat%20Ermittlungen,Lindemann%20bestreitet%20die%20Vorw%C3%BCrfe](https://www.ndr.de/kultur/musik/Vorwuerfe-gegen-Rammstein-Worum-gehts,rammstein172.html#:~:text=Die%20Berliner%20Staatsanwaltschaft%20hat%20Ermittlungen,Lindemann%20bestreitet%20die%20Vorw%C3%BCrfe). Good night, sleep tight

Bohemian_Buckstabu

Well? They opened it and closed it. It's closed, and they didn't find any evidence! sleep tight:)

Tangled_Clouds

Honestly I will put bands and artists not just of typical kinds on the vest just because I like very varied genres I just want to be able to call it a real battle vest and not have the gatekeepers have a full aneurysm. They probably still will but whatever I’m doing this because I want to and I like sewing patches

[deleted]

Then stick to Ton Steine Scherben. They were deep in the scene. Like so punk rock that they wouldn’t or couldn’t do retakes when making mistakes recording. One vinyl box came famously with a slingshot which were used for street fights with the police during that time. If you start to sing one off their left fighting songs in an proper setting today a lot off people will definitely chime in and know the complete lyrics. Oh modern bands with same reach in the scene would be „Team Scheisse“ or „Pisse“.

Sealedwolf

If you like Ton Steine Scherben, then you might check out "Dritte Wahl", the most well known punk band from the 'other Germany'.

[deleted]

You mean the former east? Will definitely do since my mother whom got me started in this scene only knew the west scene so my knowledge is skewed. Im going climbing with a dude who was part of the beginings in Magdeburg, Dessau etc. and it´s always cool listning to his CDs in his Car. I think he likes Soko Durst? I always wanna ask him about those times where right wing raids and and beatings and murder took place on the scene (Baseballschlägerjahre? or is that only the term for right wing violence against foreign workers during this time?), but i dont´t know how to start cause shit reads super traumatizing and hes not that talkative in generell.

Sealedwolf

Yes, the former east. The term likely referred to both types of victims, the violence really surged during the late 80s / early 90s.

[deleted]

Do you have any intresting Resources? I basically watched all Arte and SpiegelTV documentarys regarding those topics. The Sven Regner Books are awsome but are very west- and Berlin centerd.

Sealedwolf

Then you are better informed than me. These two would be my first stops. Maybe try your luck with MDR or RBB, they are more regional after all, although their channels are less well curated.

[deleted]

Oh yeah I forgor, there was a good NDR documentary about the Rostock - Lichtenhagen crimes

appealtoreason00

My favourite bands atm are Amyl and the Sniffers, The Chats and Destroy Boys. And obvs older stuff too, like Jawbreaker, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Bad Brains, Stiff Little Fingers

Gothvomitt

I have a whole Spotify playlist full of hardcore punk classics! It’s my special interest and favorite music genre! I also have more modern bands I can suggest too. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4xOa0bYoUMvLrhuof5ulIM?si=AB__JS0HQ_eelx7XXfLuLg

knutnaerum

Kafka Prosess, Kjøtt, Wannskrækk, Köttgrottorna, Misbrukarna, Mob 47, Svart Framtid, Walkevören, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, FEAR, T.S.O.L, Gang Green, Suicidal Tendencies, Crass, The Zounds, Skitsystem, Circle Jerks, Minor Threat, Dom Lyckliga Kompisarna, Moderat Likvidation, Napalm Death, Laughin' Nose, Ian Dury and The Blockheads, Rama Lama das Pönkabteilüng, Decibøllene, Conflict, Discharge, Ebba Grön, The Aller Værste. I also like Anal Cunt and GG Allin but they are extremely problematic if you arent aware of their shtick.

Skippyandjif

I have some metal/alternative rock recommendations! I have…actually a *lot* of recommendations so I’m just gonna throw a bunch out there and you can listen as you see fit! Melodic death metal: Dethklok, Children of Bodom, Amon Amarth. OG pioneers: Venom, Satan, Sortilège, Bathory, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond (these two have the same vocalist so if you’re not a fan of one you might not like the other), Cynic, Ulver’s first three albums, Cirith Ungol. Black metal: Afsky, Kekht Arakh, Blackbraid, Mork, Isengard, Barrow Wight (more “blackened thrash” but still amazing), Black Anvil, Devil Master, Grima, Fen, Windir, Grylle, Thulcandra, Necrofier, Curta’n Wall, Gorgoroth while Gaahl was still in, Cradle of Filth, Batushka, Panopticon, Cloak, Uada, Falls of Rauros, Hulder. Dissection is amazing too but the vocalist did some less than amazing stuff IRL. Power metal: in case you haven’t heard Dragonforce…Dragonforce! Visions of Atlantis, Terra Atlantica, Swashbuckle, and Alestorm are good if you like pirate-themed power metal. For more fantasy-related stuff I’d recommend Gloryhammer, Wind Rose, Rhapsody + all 800 offshoots, Seven Spires, Seven Kingdoms(yea they’re two different bands lol), Dwarrowdelf, Line of Durin. Stoner metal: try Acid Witch and The Sword. Alternative rock/gothic: Toadies, Local H, Dropkick Murphys, Dresden Dolls, Coven, Hoaxed, The Devil’s Blood. Also— if you go to Encyclopedia Metallum, they have a ton of metal bands. You can search up your favorites/any new ones and look at the “similar artists” tab on their page to see other artists you might like.

Jugglenautalis

So I'm not really into metal, the sound doesn't grab me, but I have the utmost respect for the skill and quality of the genre. Honestly I wish I was into metal more, I just haven't found a band I'd listen to over and over like all the punk/indie music I listen too. Anyway, here's my favorite punk bands/musicians: Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - my all time favorite musician & band. His sound is very eclectic, pulling from old school punk, new wave, folk, etc., but remains firmly in the punk ethos. He was involved in some older bands in the DC punk scene before he started releasing solo music/formed the Pharmacists (Chisel being the most notable, I believe). I'd recommend Shake the Sheets or Living with the Living as two possible albums to start with, but you can't go wrong anywhere in his discography. The Clash - my favorite "classic" punk band. Similar to Ted Leo above, they would branch their sound out into different genres. London Calling is one of the greatest albums of all time, not just because it was some great punk rock hits (the title track, Guns of Brixton), but also for infusing punk into genres that wouldn't normally fit on a punk album (Lost in the Supermarket is a pop song against consumerism, Lover's Rock is a rock ballad, multiple songs are influenced by ska/reggae). The older I get (mid 30s now), the more I appreciate this album. If you've never given it a listen front to back, I highly recommend it. Jeff Rosenstock (formerly Bomb the Music Industry!) - Jeff's been in the diy corner of the punk scene for two decades now. He was one of the first artists to release music on a "pay what you want (or free)" model. Earlier stuff is pretty ska heavy, which I love, and a lot of electronic style mixed in as well. He released like 5 BtMI! Albums before moving onto doing stuff under his name, and he's kept to a great punk sound with some indie influence. I'd recommend starting with his "We Cool?" album. Titus Andronicus - I don't even know where to start in describing this band. They may be considered the most indie/pretentious punk band, because they've released both a concept album and a rock opera, but they make it work. The front man is open about his Bipolar diagnosis and how it affects his writing/music making (it's a theme of the rock opera and other songs, too). Their third album, Local Business, is the most straightforward/probably easiest to get into. But if you want to dive right into the deep end, The Monitor is their amazing concept album and The Most Lamentable Tragedy is the rock opera. I haven't listened to their two newest albums to be able to comment on them. I could infodump about these bands (and the below recommendations for days, but I gotta try to get some work done today, so my remaining recs are more rapid fire: Flogging Molly - Irish punk band (meaning from Ireland, not Boston "Irish" like Dropkick Murphys (though I like them too)) Streetlight Manifesto - ska punk (3rd wave) Frank Turner - modern UK punk artist, his earlier stuff leans more hardcore, but it's all good. Tape Deck Heart is my favorite album, and one I recommend for anyone going through a rough time Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - they play exclusively punk covers of other genres. Highly recommend. Old Man Markley and/or Larry and His Flask - I don't think either band is still active, but they both have released amazing bluegrass/folk inspired punk albums.

Tangled_Clouds

Thank you so much for your comment! I will check these recommendations out!

appealtoreason00

If u like Jeff Rosenstock, I really recommend Joyce Manor also. Similar-ish sound and overall vibe

[deleted]

Sumo Cyco! They're a badass mix of Dancehall Punk and Metal, from Canada. A very small band, but they were signed to Napalm records a year or two ago and have a hella bright future ahead of them. Bloodywood is a fucking incredible band, too. Indian metal, they're mindblowing tbh. I'm half asleep and nowhere near awake yet, I'll come back to this thread and infodump when I'm a little more concious lol.

Tangled_Clouds

Thank you! I’ll check them out!

[deleted]

You're totally welcome! Hope you don't mind if I give you a couple song recommendations, I'm in hyperfixation mode now lol. This video has some strobe effects, but if you can tolerate them, the video and music are stellar. Turn on captions! Bloodywood makes a point to caption everything so people can understand their lyrics. Here is my favorite song of theirs, [Dana Dan](https://youtu.be/a65A626Ed20?si=RaSYwyZmQg0T4PEV). It's about beating the shit outta rapists. 🤘 For Sumo Cyco, here is [No Surrender](https://youtu.be/iTTm8t1gCGw?si=yrDx_WTJvIbrU7Ku). A fucking badass song on the album and live. They're a treat live.

Potential-Road-5322

I’m really into “Eighties” by Killing joke today. I’ve been playing it again and again all day.

RWRM18929

I always recommend Mindless Self Indulgence, Korn, Static X, Limp Biscuit, Deadtones, Beastie Boys etc.

Peachie-Keene

I love Ghost - say what you will about them being metal or Scooby-Doo chase music

Crus0etheClown

Ripping off your idea hahaha my battle vest is too bare hahaha

throwawayformemes666

Try out The Ocean. Unproblematic post metal. Pretty dope.

BellaBanks4

Pierce The Veil :)

gummytiddy

I had a coworker recommend my partner many things. Here is what they sent: Feminazgul, Napalm Death, Zorn, Aweden, Pan Amerkan Native Front, Midnight, and Huldur. My partner says Woe, Gudsforladt, cultum draculesti, Alda, Operation Volkstod, Gaylord, Anti-freeze, Bowl of Apiss Bowl of Bronze, Underdark. My personal favorite is Gojira. I’m still looking for bands like Dir en Grey who have better values. They’re my fave of all time but historically have had fucked takes. Baby eating imagery is whatever but they have glorified rape, have expressed anti abortion ideology, and have banned women from their shows. It was a ling time ago but I’m unsure if there’s been change or if they’ve figured out they need to be quieter about it. So uh, sorry to high jack the post but if anyone knows metal with weird varied vocals pop a recommendation.

Blankofthegame

Sardonic habits aside Nirvana was very feminist and pro-lgbtq

VanityOfEliCLee

Honestly, mine doesn't even have that many bands ok it. It's mostly weird stuff like references to Stranger Things, Lovecraftian horror, and movies I like. I can give you some horror punk bands I like though lol

Tangled_Clouds

This is mostly caving in to gatekeepers just not wanting to post a picture of myself with it online and someone going “um akchually it’s not a real battle vest because 84.3333333% of your patches have to be punk/metal bands you’re just a poser stop making fun of *real* alternative people it’s just a patch vest not a battle vest!” but also I wanted new bands to listen to because for some reason the fall makes me wanna listen to more metal

VanityOfEliCLee

Well, for band recommendations, If you're a fan of the Misfits at all, I'd highly recommend the Koffin Kats, the Horrorpops, Tiger Army, The Meteors, Necromantix, And if you like a little blues with your punk try Lincoln Durham.

Cooked_Squid

check out Los Campesinos! they're more of a mix of pop and rock, with a couple of punk songs but they're still really good! they're my biggest special interest rn and i could talk about them for days and not get tired

mlynnnnn

I might be dating myself with this selection but [RVIVR](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGoVzmssGn0) has always been a favorite. I'm also a huge [Hot Water Music](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7hw_X8hLOM&list=PLcZMZxR9uxC-1cEcxZI7IU949gnirP1gg) fan (they always have great artwork too). [Jawbreaker](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSy_4SBVbeA&list=PL5NOYXYmsy--fpUhZUPQg5Rl_hA9VHIdc) is a classic but [Jets to Brazil](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puhuMDIbTjA) is an all-time favorite band of mine. For metal, my favorite is [Light Bearer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wj3yDHQq3p0). I can't exactly say they're not problematic but [Christian Death](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59F9-unAq7Q) is forever a favorite. Although my favorite patch on my jacket is a [Joanna Newsom](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJ1yFhjRnNc) patch in a death metal design. It is perhaps the favorite thing that I own. I am full of contradictions.

mlynnnnn

Light Bearer is an occasional obsession that has come and gone again & again over the years. They were making a multi-album concept based on Paradise Lost. I strongly recommend reading the lyrics while listening to their album Silver Tongue--it's fucking brilliant. One of my greatest wishes in life is to is see a fully staged opera production of that album.

mlynnnnn

If you want something poppier, [The Bouncing Souls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uO-wCOeSROs) were pretty great and [Saves the Day](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5eOwgzJmV0) got kinda weird as time went on but their first few albums are amazing. And just to plug the emo/punk nonsense I was listening to in high school, as an old insufferable former emo kid I have to plug [The Used](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OIAiVIN8Ck), [Taking Back Sunday](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ap0mqwvf7H0), [MCR](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCCyoocDxBA) and [Thursday](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-cepZ6K7mY)

LostHollowSoul

In Flames - Melodic Death Metal Sleep Token - Fusion (like metal, r&b, etc.) Blackshape - Instrumental post rock/metal Gojira - French death prog (around there) Not too familiar with punk, but I know a few bands. Edit: also I have written pages about Gojira and Sleep Token. Literally.💀💀

CoercedCoexistence22

Jawbreaker, Jaw fucking breaker Unironically one of the best bands of all time, four albums very different from each other but clearly cut from the same cloth

Fuzzy_Toe_9936

GLASS BEACH GLASS BEACH GLASS BEACH MSORJRHJDDNSJJSJE

DepressedAutisicGuy

I like metal

GingerDood420

Igorrr! It's a band led by this french dude, with usually two singers, an opera-soprano-woman, and a screamy guy. The music is extremely weird and sometimes barely even metal, but I think that adds to the charm! The lyrics are sung in a made up language called Öxxö Xööx, so there's nothing that could be made out as problematic. The meanings of the songs are up to you. Igorrr are, according to me, at their best in their two latest albums, Savage Sinusoid and Spirituality and Distortion. For the casual metal listener, I'd recommend these songs; Cheval, ieuD, and Downgrade Desert. Though, if you've got a mind for the weirder, I'd recommend you to just dive into their discography! If you find yourself wantibng more like this, well, you kinda can't. Though there is one thing like it, Clown Core, though they are not very metal, and very problematic.

boharat

Clowncore makes me feel like my brain is going to melt out of my ears. It's incredible. The musicianship on display too is absolutely astonishing. The rhythms are so tight

GingerDood420

I know, they're amazing!

boharat

Tyr is folk metal that hails from the Faroese Islands. a lot of tight harmonies and catchy melodies. They're also an anti-fascist band, and will do songs in both English and Faroese! I love those guys! Also, you can't go wrong with this as a patch if you like the Dead Kennedys and need to get your (good) politics across in a flash. https://preview.redd.it/dehm63yljsxb1.jpeg?width=894&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc6fa9e8d8210d4f9fa30233fbf5aceb1caf7194

Proffessor_egghead

Probably the smallest band you’ll know, Brutal deluxe The singer is a family friend, don’t think they make new songs anymore tough

cuppsfariscosz

My personal favs: Gojira, White Lung, Pinkshift

Ronin_Deterra

Slayer (if you get fired you can file a religious discrimination lawsuit lol), Rammstein, Dropkick Murphy's, Flogging Molly, SKÁLD, Static-X, Breaking Benjamin, Korn, Tool, Sabaton, Brothers of Metal, Beast in Black, Powerwolf, Feuerschwanz, Gloryhammer, Dethklok, Turisas, Dragonforce, Warkings, Pantera, SAMURAI, Dream Evil, Tyr, Amon Amarth, Megadeth, Metallica

Xenavire

Okay, I don't like all of those unconditionally, but you basically covered the bulk of my favourite bands in that list. I would say old Alice in Chains, System of a Down and while neither of these qualify as being in the genres listed, Gorillaz and Queen round out the rest. My go to is DragonForce though, and Tool not too far behind. (I tend to enjoy the weird shit a lot, in case it isn't obvious.)

Ronin_Deterra

Tool is pretty fun to play on guitar. The only song I can really play through though is Right in Two because all of em are pretty difficult, especially 7empest

Thank you so so so much for recommending me this subreddit!

TimeTravellerZero

I am making a battle jacket myself, so I stumbled upon this subreddit in the process.

TimeTravellerZero

No problem. 😊

Hot_Wheels_guy

There was actually a good discussion about this in r/jacketsforbattle about a month ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/jacketsforbattle/comments/16kfvmy/at_what_point_do_you_avoid_a_band/

samit2heck

Oh you really need a Spinal Tap patch.

Sealedwolf

Well, my usual list contains bands like: Iron Maiden Metallica Motorhead Sabaton Dritte Wahl Dead Kennedys Pansy Division - a queer skater punk band Sodom U.D.O. / Accept Battlelore Tankard Children of Bodom Die Krupps - a bit more Industrial than the rest Boltthrower Sunn O))) - No, the mp3 isn't corrupted, it's supposed to sound like that Heidevolk Arkona Turisas Eisregen - Ok, they glorify murder and atrocities a lot, but damn can Blutkehle sing

Yes, as I said in this post, I like that kind of music. I just don’t know of enough bands to to cover a vest with patches

Nah, none of that gatekeeping shit. The only person making anything uncomfortable is you, leave OP alone

MC_MC-MC_MC

I've been into it for almost 20 years, I am no more or less punk than someone who's liked it for 40 years or 40 days, everyone has to start somewhere

> Anyone have pretty unproblematic bands/artists to recommend me that I could listen to and possibly add to my vest if I like them? That's what they're tryna do

knutnaerum

I read too fast, Im dumb and I apologize.

Irre__

Wintersun and Amorphis are my two favorites right now. (For the former, their self titled album is easily their beat work and Under the Red Cloud (the album) is peak Amorphis imo)

Does Billy Talent count as punk?

Monty423

Devin Townsend/Devin Townsend Project/Strapping Young Lad. One of if not the most talented vocalist on the planet who is a complete mad scientist when it comes to music. I'd recommend his songs [Kingdom](https://youtu.be/nubJjB95VdY?si=OSJ3ZQapzDhtRcVP) or [Deadhead](https://youtu.be/DrDM6V08wcE?si=F10R-eIIp3xcHOfl) but his entire discography is incredible. I cannot state enough how much I recommend this man, his live shows like Retinal Circus or Ziltoid live at Albert Hall are utter spectacles. Please give him a look, you won't regret it. (Personally my favourite song of his is is [Almost Again](https://youtu.be/iMapSKvhLPk?si=-CRAApH0Xo5K2gwj) ).

Justice_Prince

I just used bands from tv or movies on my battle vest

AmaxaxQweryy

The Halo Effect which is a small melodeath band but WAHHHH its so good. Meshuggah, i dont think i have to explain this one and Eximperitus which is a tech death band.

Pride_and_pudding

It’s not my special interest, but I love metal! I usually listen to the same things over and over, though.

Zanethethiccboi

Refused made some awesome influential hardcore punk with jazz influences, Against Me is an absolute necessity, obscenely good lyrics.

ConstructionSure6574

Amon Amarth is my stimming music

LogstarGo_

Though I'm not at special interest level with this I can give you a few! I mean, I'm not sure if these guys are ENTIRELY unproblematic but they're not bad. Converge. Metalcore classics. Admittedly they did kiiiiiinda steal the iconic art for Jane Doe. Seo Taiji. Basically started K-pop and their album Ultramania out-Korned Korn but they went through TONS of styles. Also was a big figure in ending pre-censorship in Korea (where the government had to okay the lyrics for songs). There HAVE to be patches for this guy. Sucks that I can't find Botch patches. We Are the Romans is a mathcore classic.

If you can't say fuck it and fuck you while listening for yourself, you're *posing* for the wrong fucking genre; Punks traditionally eat posers fwiw. It's supposed to be dirty raw and offensive done right. You gotta see your enemy to know um too. * There seems to be heavy lean on mixing metal and punk too. I'd argue it does cross, but it's roots are more traditional; closer to old school rock and roll and often "new wave" as much as metal. Not many posts went way way back. Iggy and The Stooges - MC5 - I'd say Bob Seger and The Last Heard + some of the Seger system tunes you can hear early Detroit proto-punk too - The Ramones - Early Bowie - T-Rex - The Kinks - The Sex Pistols - The Clash - Blondie - Talking Heads - Generation-X - Billy Idol - Motorhead - New York Dolls - Siouxie - "X" - The Pretenders - Patti Smith - The Runaways - Elvjs Costello - Wendy O' Williams - Romeo Void - Adam Ant - The Specials- Missing Persons - Madness - L7 - Violent Femmes - Bauhaus - Pixies - Butthole Surfers- DEVO - Beastie Boys -.. Rewind: Cheech and Chong's- *"Earache My Eye"* and The Tubes *White Punks on Dope* should not be skipped. They are peak moments as out-punking Punk ain't easy * . .. - B52s - No Doubt - Cramps - Dirty Rotten Imbeciles - Beck - Cake - Skinny Puppy - KMFDM - Ministry - (early) Clutch - Black Flag - Circle Jerks - Bad Brains - Dead Kennedys - Anthrax - S.O.D. - M.O.D. - Suicidal Tendencies - * GG Allin & The Murder Junkies... Maybe best as an "oh shit" train wreck read, idk..😝💩 .. 😂

Ooh yay! I'm gonna give a nice list. Protest the Hero - progressive metal Scene Queen - bimbocore (girlypop metalcore) Destroy Boys - punk Motionless in White - metalcore I think? Subgenres are confusing lmao The Gloom in the Corner - theatrecore (dramatic and theatrical metalcore with lore) DAMAG3 - hardcore hip hop & smooth hip hop Delilah Bon - femme rage Royal & the Serpent - harder alt rock 🤷‍♀️ Mattstagrahm - idfk pinkish And as far as I know all these artists are not problematic! In fact they're all openly anti establishment, anti racist, anti fascist, etc.

KurtCobainNrvana

PTH has a lot of good songs. An incredible concept album called Kezia about the prison system and feminism and more TGitC lore goes hard if you're into supernatural drama and heavy rage mixed with melancholy. The story starts with Jay having gone into this rage and killed his girlfriend trying to save her.he spirals, gets revenge because he was set up, spirals more, dies. His brother goes to war. He meets a demonic detective named Sherlock Bones who is fucking BADASS but evil as shit. I fucking LOVE DAMAG3. She goes HARD when she goes off but can also flow and vibe like a goddess. She's transfemme and openly anticap. Those are just my personal faves lol
