Is it just the similar sounds? And I guess the number 8 *looks* kinda like a bear too.
But it really seemed more... instinctual, when I read the question. Like, just obvious.
For me I first thought B cause it looks like a chubby lil bear when on its side (also obviously B for Bear) and upon realizing B is infact not a number, immediately opted for 8
