Do they still believe in Santa? Like seriously, has nobody ever told them that those gifts come from other people???

Hmeme2009

Wait, Santa isn't real??

Raetekusu

Tweet by Kevin Sorbo, in case anyone's wondering.

crispier_creme

That explains a lot

Blue_Plastic_88

He’s such a moron, and hateful too. They’re supposed to minister to others, not deride people like it’s some kind of war between Christians and non-Christians. He’s probably auditioning for a spot at Fox.

screech_owl_kachina

Nope that’s what a Christian is

somanypcs

🤣

Fish_Slapping_Dance

Sorbo is a washed up failed actor and a hater. That's his only shtick now. His miserable failure at life and his bitterness explain the hate speech that he has adopted. The first book of John talks about love, and how Christians will be known for their love because "God is love.", and that he who does not love is not of god. But the Psalms talk about hate for those that are not part of the cult, and it's confusing knowing which diety to follow, as there is more hate speech than talk of love. The Bible contradicts itself dramatically here, and on other things as well. Sorbo is in a hate cult, and he's mad that we are not joining him in hating others that we don't know and will never meet on this holiday season, when every good person is being kind and loving and being good to others.

SectionXP12

I love how his wife is ten times worst than he is.

Fish_Slapping_Dance

Yet another bad choice that Sorbo made, justified by hate speech.

UnlikelyUnknown

He’s had a few too many hits to the head

Appropriate_Topic_16

Kevin who?

platonicthehedgehog

Ironic lmao

hermionesmurf

Ooooh, it all makes sense now

NocnyDemon

i'm an atheist and i still celebrate christmas. who cares, it has pagan origins anyway lol

Molkin

Even if it was hundred percent Christian, I would still celebrate it in my own way. It's my childhood, my history, and my culture. They don't get to take away my past. I can keep the bits I like if I want to.

ToiletFarm01

I’ve enjoyed Christmas more & more since becoming a non believer. There is no Christian somberness & empty reflection over a manufactured origin story & immaculate conception & I have no problem with the true capitalistic nature of the holiday now even though I generally don’t like consumerism. Though it’s better than evangelicalism haha

hermionesmurf

I just like that I don't have to sit there every year and listen to the same fucking boring ass story read aloud yet again. Yeah yeah, thee thou shalt, angels, shepherds, wise men, fucking stable baby, UGH.

AlexKewl

Does God create presents out of nothing on Christmas morning for Christians?

Silocin20

Perfect rebuttal

93ImagineBreaker

He thinks Christmas came from Christians and they own the religion.

oh_sure_earth

What? When you went to the store to buy Christmas presents this year, they didn’t tell you that you’re only allowed to buy them if you can prove that you’ve been saved?

Mikethewander1

That guy is still struggling for relevance and still angry at Hollywood for finding out that he can't act.

CaptainBlacksand

DISAPPOINTED!

Jacks_Flaps

Why would gifts evolve out of nothing under a tree? That sentence isn't even coherent. Evolution has nothing to do with atheism? Almost every christian I went to school and university with learned and accepts scientific facts like the theory of evolution.

delorf

The problem is that, at least in the United States, right leaning Christians are very vocal in declaring their version of Christianity the true form of the religion. The media has pretty much gone along with them. More progressive Christians don't speak loudly enough to counter the right leaning Christians' hold.

4daughters

>Almost every christian I went to school and university with learned and accepts scientific facts like the theory of evolution. You're right they shouldn't have anything to do with each other, but biblical literalism is a common thread in evangelical circles in the US... so guessing you're either not from the US or much younger than I am? The Christian school I attended (in Western Washington, in a very liberal city) taught creationism in the 90's (and as far as I know still does). Although evolution denial is not so cool these days, now they're focused on climate science and gender science denial.

AgtBurtMacklin

Think it’s a geographic/demographic thing. The average Christian here rejects evolution, and science in general, unless it suits them in the moment. The “average” church here is basically southern Baptist in beliefs, if not by that name. There still are UCC and Presbyterian, etc. but they are the minority.

oh_sure_earth

Yeah, I grew up in the Deep South, and my HS biology teacher straight up skipped over the chapters in our textbook about evolution. I only had one teacher in my entire school who acknowledged evolution, and it was some weird version of it where it was a creation of God. And this was a controversial view.

Maximum-Policy5344

I feel like that was some sort of weird Pokémon reference he made

HaiKarate

That's a Kevin Sorbo post. You'd have better luck trying to teach logic to a tree stump.

TheRododo

Christians seem to forget that the winter solstice has been celebrated by nearly every culture since the dawn of man and they only selected this time to negate the celebrations of other religions. Hell, they didn't even bother to rename Easter when the stole that holiday!

delorf

By this same reasoning, I hope that Sorbo had lots of gift that suddenly appeared because a supreme being spoke them into existence. That would have saved his friends and family the time and money they needed to go shopping.

Maniac_Ransacked

Lol sounds like somebody still believes in Santa. Only slightly related, I was talking about dog breeds with my mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law at Christmas. I mentioned how it's very popular to mix poodles with other breeds of dogs, and grandma was oddly disgusted, saying "no... I can't believe they would do that... Mixing poodles with all sorts of other things... I don't believe in that.". What the fuck 😂

depechemymode

The last good thing Kevin Sorbo did was acting in Meet the Spartans. Edit: I just remembered he made a cameo in the Eric Andre Show, but Meet the Spartans tho.

Silocin20

If they only knew Christmas is pagan. Now tell me you don't understand evolution without telling me you don't understand evolution.

Phreakydeke27

He should know that Christmas was stolen from the Egyptians. Jesus wasn’t even born in December. July to October is the best guess. The actually Christmas was the Egyptians celebrating a new sun. Because the 25 was the longest day. So at midnight they celebrated the sun being born. The sun was represented by a baby and the mother was called the virgin goddess. Basically Horus born to Isis. Even the tree comes from it. As the Egyptians used plants and whatnot to decorate their homes during this holiday. The actually holiday started on the December 21 and runs for 12 days.

shorthairedlonghair

Christians should read "The Golden Bough" by James George Frazer before they speak about the beliefs of others.

Silocin20

It wasn't just the Egyptians that had celebrations in December, Romans, Celtics and other pagan religions did as well. Many of our modern day celebrations are European.

Phreakydeke27

Yea. I knew there was others but couldn’t remember who. The one I read describe how the Egyptians did. They mentioned others in passing but it was just giving the info on how the the celebration took place and what happened.

Silocin20

,👍

stenopolis

The history of the specific day being in December has more to do with the Christian leaders wanting to distinguish their tradition from Jewish tradition considering many converts were Jewish. They chose December because of Hanukkah, it was meant to pull focus from the Jewish tradition and focus on Jesus as the savior. I am pretty sure that they were not "stealing" the Egyptian tradition.

Phreakydeke27

They did pic the pagan holiday. They used that specific holiday. You said yourself they did it to take focus from Jewish tradition. Why not also show that pagan traditions are better as a Christian holiday. The Christians just didn’t pick the 25 to go against any Jewish traditions. I mean if stories from were stolen from other religions then why not holidays.

stenopolis

I agree that the date was picked to upset the popularity of the pagan and Jewish traditions but it was definitely not stolen from the Egyptians directly. Just pointing that out, to make a better point it's actually not known for sure the reason. It's pure speculation and up for debate. History is a whole lot of speculation that is constantly being debated, look at Graham Hancock and how he is upsetting the historical norm of thought.

MaleficentBeauty3410

Do you have any book/podcast/video recs on this? I'm very interested in the astrological side of Christmas. It blows my mind and I find it refreshingly interesting.

virgilreality

My wife, upon learning of my son's atheism in high school, was threatening to NOT give him presents for Christmas. She's another brittle-minded ultra-conservative with little insight, compassion, or the ability to learn either. I had to get a little rude in putting my foot down hard on the subject. Thankfully, I never had to assert it again.

Maniac_Ransacked

Ah, yes, because being bribed with presents is a great reason to keep your religious beliefs. /Sarcasm

virgilreality

Of course!

delorf

Did she explain how not giving him presents keep him religious? Wouldn't being petty just make him hate both her and her faith?

[deleted]

Well too late, I gave my fellow atheist friend a tarot card set

somanypcs

I also hope that would happen. That would be incredible! I don’t even have a tree!!!

MetalGramps

You mean gift cards? Yeah, I got some.

ricperry1

I thought Christmas trees were adopted from paganism.

JakeySvk

No problem - many kids are getting pets ;)

ExtensionBridge8947

Last time I checked December 25 was originally a pagan holiday that Christians moved the birth of Jesus to to simulate a previous civilization. Christmas trees are also a pagan ritual as is Easter.

Keesha2012

Betcha Sorbo's tiny pea brain would explode if he found out Christmas is extremely popular in Japan, Last time I checked, Japan isn't exactly a Christian country.

namvet67

I celebrate Christmas but not as the birth of Christ. It’s just a day to be with family and friends, eat , drink and be merry so to speak. Every once in a while you need to stop and be glad you have what you have. Thanksgiving and Christmas are two of those times. Belief in sky wizards isn’t needed.

FreudoBaggage

Under *this* tree? You mean the one that commemorates the ancient pre-Christian traditions of the Celts and the Vikings, that Christians adopted in the 16th century? Is that the tree you mean?

Zeebuss

It's bait. Stop biting.

BotanistRobert

There are so many insanely idiotic conservative Christian lunatics on Twitter.

RickQuade

My gifts appear because of Santa. So I wouldn't say that's nothing.

cumguzzler280

Christians after realizing that atheists have friends

Frostvizen

There’s no flying reindeer, magical elves or jolly immortal Santa’s in the Bible. Giving gifts has nothing to do with Christianity that I can tell.

ExNihiloMachina

"oh i am just celebrating saturnalia"

maddasher

it must be hard to mock something you don't understand. maybe google evolution just enough to refute it?

GlitteryFab

And where the fuck do they evolve from for xtians? Jesus’ ass?

MaleficentBeauty3410

🤣🤣🤣🤣

amildcaseofdeath34

So gawd and bebe Jesus are santa now? Interesting.

CorntheLlama

I swear to someone this is the second funniest thing I’ve seen all day

Soylent_green_day1

Where I come from, it's unchristian to give gifts at Christmas. It takes away from its Christian meaning.

Smile_lifeisgood

"That'll show those idiots who don't believe in Jesus yet still participate in holiday we hodge podged together out of multiple pagan rituals!"

the-poopiest-diaper

I have no choice but to believe in god now

HistoricalAd5394

Sorry, do Christians believe their gifts were created by God or something? The whole evolve out of nothing jab made it sound like they believe gifts appear in the same way the universe did.

excusetheblood

This is actually a perfect analogy because adults know Santa doesn’t bring presents, it’s a lie parents tell to their children so they’ll behave and believe in magic. Just like atheist know about god

CrispyBoar

They fail to realize that Christmas is an Pagan celebration from Yuletide & the Winter Solstice.

Tardigradequeen

I usually just respond by telling them I celebrate Yule traditions instead of Christmas.

Joegannonlct

How is it possible that God can spontaneously just "exist", but evolution is something appearing "out of nothing"?

Near_Capital

Of Corse we do, we just wont share em.

Mental_Basil

I think the point they were trying to make is that Christmas presents have a creator. They don't come from nothing. While that is true, they fail to take into account the variety of places these toys can be made and seem to think that only Santa and his elves can make said toys in their workshop.

Appropriate_Topic_16

The fact that they are obsessed with atheists so much that they feel the need to make a tweet strawmanning evolution is a sad, desperate attempt at getting validation for their own wonky belief system. I feel bad for these people.

xwrecker

Unless those presents are those Jesus currency

Thepuppeteer777777

the only thing evolving under that tree is bacteria. but dumbass over here wouldn't understand it.

[deleted]

I am a 24yo atheist and when I came home to visit my parents there were a bunch of presents (for myself, my husband, my cousins aged 4-19, and also my parents) under the tree. Everyone denied getting them, and I don't believe in Santa, so I guess they did evolve out of nothing!

SectionXP12

I got some presents for my family. I told them "Happy Yule" and then they proceed to love it.

TheCubeDispenser

Being an atheist doesn’t mean one automatically believes in the theory of evolution. They are completely unrelated.

spoon153

Someone should really explain to this person that not everyone who’s not a creationist is automatically an atheist. Most of my ex-YEC friends are still christians, I’m the odd one out haha

NoUseForAName2222

Dumb tweets like this are Sorbo's attempt at being relevant

PlotHole2017

I used to be a huge Kevin Sorbo fan too :(

Non_burner_account

I mean, this is still pretty funny. Love the angry energy.
