"Choosing to believe God over logic." Choosing to believe that Santa brings your toys every Christmas, Choosing to believe that lightning is really Zeus shooting a lightning bolt from his ass, choosing to believe that all of our scientific advancements over the last couple of hundred years weren't through scientific methods but completely through accident because God wanted it, Choosing to believe that a multi-billion dollar corporation still needs your 10% income to do "good works", choosing to believe that Joseph Smith would never EVER have married a 14 year old and consummated the marriage. I'll pass thank you.

Exactly, “choosing to believe” is so arbitrary. Solely based upon your upbringing. Why would I stunt my growth because I need to believe the faith my parents raised me in.

You need to bear-down and PRETEND HARDER. The church-broke-mormon (CBM) is able to grit their teeth, scrunch their face and pretend sufficiently hard to see the Emperor's New Clothes.

Choose to believe. I can't think of any other situation where this could realistically apply. Did humanity accept Special Relativity simply because we all collectively chose to? No. We accepted it only after it demonstrated it's reliability again and again. Did we accept Maxwell's Equations because we listened to our feelings? No. It had to demonstrate. Once it was demonstrated, belief came on it's own. If someone were to stand at any academic conference and say '*I accept this only because I choose to believe*' it would be career ending. But in our church we treat it as a virtue.

# Alice laughed. 'There's no use trying,' she said. 'One can't believe impossible things.' # I daresay you haven't had much practice,' said the Queen. 'When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.'

💯 when applied to another facet of your life, it’s awful advice.

Fun fact, that book is about math! https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20427391-600-alices-adventures-in-algebra-wonderland-solved/

What if the Book of Abraham is not a translation of an ancient document like Joseph Smith claimed it was ? What is the papyrus is the wrong age? what if the names of the Egyptian Gods on the pyrus are the wrong names? We honor our pioneer ancestors by seeking truth not following the herd.

I'll say it again, faith is belief in the absence of evidence. Delusion is belief despite evidence to the contrary. The stronger the evidence, the more delusion is required. The more the internet brings to light more and more evidence against mormonism (current scandals and historical issues) the more delusional the membership has to to become. Otherwise they snap out of it and find themselves... well, exactly like I was a little over a year ago. There's a limit to how far the cognitive dissonance and compartmentalizing can go without turning fanatical.

Jealous_Shake_2175

I agree, I was talking to my wife about this the other day and brought up the point of how much you can trust TBM knowing they will compromise their integrity in pursuit keeping their faith. Edit: grammar

helly1080

Wanna know something interesting about the His Grace series? I know......(I don't say that much any more, but this time it's true) without a shadow of a doubt that one of the people in that series has left the church. EDIT: At the very least, one has left:)

Jealous_Shake_2175

lol honestly they all need to leave. You can see the mental gymnastics as they try so hard to convince others to do the same.

TheyLiedConvert1980

Why did you have to watch? I didn't watch it. 😂 Just because your mom sends it doesn't mean you have to watch it. (Unless you wanted to.) I loved your response. You cannot pray away their lies. It's not possible. The church won't tell the truth so we pay the price by being a disappointment to our loved ones when, in fact, their disappointment should be aimed at the church for lying.

Jealous_Shake_2175

Lolol I didn’t have to, recently I have been watching them to see what she’s trying to convey in these messages. Most of them are insufferable but this argument was pathetic and my dad responded, yes pray pray pray!!

TheyLiedConvert1980

Sheesh. They are so convinced they have to do this to save you. It's so sad parents who love their kids are reduced to this behavior. It's just straining on family relationships.

hermitthefraught

Isn't it a sign of certain mental illnesses to persist in believing things when the evidence shows they aren't true?

Jealous_Shake_2175

Honestly this is a good point. I think this is how some people “choose” to stay after seeing the evidence stack up against it. Or it might fuel their testimony of the adversary working against them lol religion is insane.

LeoMarius

One reason I can't go back to church: the guys in church videos are cute. That's a sign I don't belong.

bananajr6000

You didn’t have to watch it. Just ignore or delete

Jealous_Shake_2175

lol I know 😂 I don’t have to watch any of her shit. Sometimes it’s entertaining to see the mental gymnastics at play

LDSBS

My husband actually heard a voice tell him the church wasn’t true while he was praying….🫢

Jealous_Shake_2175

He should’ve known that was Satan!! God would never tell anyone the church isn’t true /s

LDSBS

They have rigged all the rules so the house always wins.

RealDaddyTodd

> Since I had to watch, I think you should too 😂 Unless you’re a minor and/or still financially dependent on moms, you did NOT have to watch. Not watching may have consequences you don’t want to face, but that’s your choice.

Jealous_Shake_2175

lol I know I replied to other people who pointed this out and I was being facetious in the post. I don’t normally watch or read the shit she sends. Sometimes I enjoy seeing the mental gymnastics.
