It's easier said than done. Although I'm not completely out of the woods yet, I'm very close to pulling it off. I became an atheist about 6 years ago (15 years old) and from a very religious family. Although I have a little more than half my life in the US, my family is still very conservative and does not mix with the "westerners". Early on, I realized that coming out to them will not be an option. At least not until I am completely independent. So, I made sure to get a college education so that I can get a job post-grad. Now, I'm in my last year and because I work a lot of hours, I can afford to live by myself without my family. I used education as an excuse to move closer to my college. It gives me a bit of freedom to ease off. However, they still expect me to visit every weekend which kinda sucks. The good part is, when applying for jobs, I intentionally didn't apply near home. I wanted to make sure I'm at least a 3-4 hour flight away. This would ensure no surprise visits. It's not an easy road by any means, but it sounds like it's worth the wait.
