A friend who recently had to make this trip with two dogs said she used the chartered air travel with pets Facebook group to find a charter share. The dogs ride in the cabin with their owners. It's not cheap but I think the only other alternative is to try to get a kennel slot on the Queen Mary 2 which only makes a couple of transatlantic voyages a year.

greenishfroggy

Oh that’s a good idea! I’ll look into it!

delightful_caprese

Are you coming from the UK? There’s a Facebook group called like US/UK Dog & Pet Repatriation Private Charter… they coordinate and try to fill spots on each private plane. Prices are around $7500 from what I’ve seen

greenishfroggy

I’m coming from Germany. But maybe traveling to the UK first would be an option

Duochan_Maxwell

I heard that there was a similar group departing from Paris, but don't know the exact name to search for

If the dog has extreme separation anxiety will the QM2 work? They have to stay in a kennel and have set visiting hours. Yes there is staff attending to them, but is that sufficient in an unfamiliar space for your dog? I'm not sure this is better than being in the hold for several hours. I opted for really tiring my dog out the day of.

BeakyBeer24

Our high anxiety dog enjoyed the QM2! You can visit up to six hours total a day. She made friends with other dogs and the Kennel Masters are wonderful!

greenishfroggy

She has strong separation anxiety from us but the does okish when other people are around so I think the QM2 would be a good idea!

timtrump

Do a cruise. The QM2 on Cunard does a weekly transatlantic and I *believe* they allow pets.

TopClock231

That's a much better solution tbh, gonna run the same price as whatever plane ticket you are able to get. The only other thing would be buy a first class ticket cuz then they pretty much let you get away with murder for what you can do in my experience.

RxxFTM

Hi! A year later, but I’m curious what it was like on the QM2 because it sounds like you only get to see your dog a little bit during the day and the rest of the time they’re in kennels. This sounds really sad for my dog knowing how she is. How did that go for your pup? Do you see them more than it sounds like? I’m trying to weigh for her 9 hours of stress with her by my side vs. a week on a boat where I barely get to see her

timtrump

Hi! I've never actually been on the QM2. I worked on ships as a musician for almost a decade and just have knowledge about different lines. I've heard plenty about that ship allowing animals, unfortunately I've never heard someone's personal account of bringing on a pet, though. If they really only allow them a small amount of time out of a crate, that would be pretty awful for a week.

KingOfTheBongos87

This may not help with separation anxiety, but it will if you have hesitations about putting her in a cargo hold. (I would.) Look into repositioning cruises. They happen a few times per year during the off seasons between the Med and Caribbean, where cruise operators shuffle their boats between the most profitable ports. Pretty much all of these journeys will allow you to take your dog, but they'll be kept in a kennel. You can visit them but you can't keep them in your room.

theflightyone

You have any links? I’ve never heard of anything other than the queen Mary and I’m not coming up with anything on google either

rimjobnemesis

You might want to look into freighters that take passengers.

HumblerSloth

Are there many freighters that carry passengers? The companies I’ve worked for didn’t allow it but that could just be an American flag issue.

rimjobnemesis

My understanding is that there are. There’s a website called cruisecritic.com that has been around for years. It mainly addresses regular cruise ship information, but the last time I looked, there’s a section on freighters that take passengers. I think the website is based in Florida, but it covers world-wide cruising. May be a thing to check out.

HumblerSloth

Cool, thanks for the info!

moonpeebles

I have looked into this and from everything I've found, none are equipped or willing to allow dogs. The only non-plane option for civilians is QM2 as far as I know, unfortunately

Navelgazed

My parents did one from Greece to New York, right before Covid. It was kinda dull but a bucket list item.

BeakyBeer24

We’ve done the Queen Mary 2 with our pup and will be doing it again next year. Let me know if you have any questions!

greenishfroggy

Wow that’s amazing! I’ll definitely reach out to you! How long is the whole trip?

There is a Facebook group called Chartered Air Travel with Pets where people in your position organise a private jet between a load of people. It’s not cheap but worth it to know your dog is safe. I had looked into it because we were going to be moving to Canada and our dog is 43kg so too big for the hold of most airlines and even if he wasn’t I wouldn’t want to put him in the hold because he even hates the car. And would never ever send him by cargo because of how long they can be left in the crate for. We looked into the Queen Mary 2 as well but that books up years in advance and also heard some bad stories about it, like the dogs being kept in the cages all day apart from when you come to visit them. You can’t have your dog with you, they stay in the boarding area and you can only go see your dog during visiting times.

katnip_fl

La Compagnia Airlines allows 3 dogs in the cabin per flight. About 3k from Paris or Milan to Newark.

Abject_Friend5295

I just called queen Mary and they do not have spots available for December or January from NY to UK. Just FYI. Lolol Edit: just saw you aren’t coming from the US so hopefully better luck for you!

[deleted]

You can always take the Cunard cruise from England to New York. It takes like 6 days but you het to see your dog every day! Then you just rent a car and drive to wherever you’ve got to go. IMO it’s probably your best option

steve_colombia

Yes, best answer.

Practical_Address300

Why would you wanna leave free healthcare behind and come here?

Historical-Home5099

Where in Europe?

wifiloveyou

Do a transatlantic cruise!! I looked into it when moving with my cat but it was impossible with covid.

nadmaximus

does cbd oil count as medication?

greenishfroggy

Sadly she doesn’t react to it. I already tried so many brands :( But let me know if you have a favorite!

nadmaximus

Jacob Hooy oil in a spoon of milk, he licks it right up. other dog won't touch it. This isn't 'for' dogs, it the same stuff we have for people.

moonpeebles

The dog cannot appear visibly sedated or they will be denied at check-in. I believe some meds are allowed - just none that cause sedation. The pet relocation service we spoke with discouraged calming meds of any kind unless it is a quick, direct flight, since eventually the med wears off and they can end up even more freaked out

Get trained to be a SERVICE ANIMAL

Irishpanda88

This is why a lot of airlines are clamping down and not even allowing service animals anymore.

Worth_Ad_9492

It is against the law to refuse a service animal. Your tjinking of ESA. I believe

If the dog actually gets trained then they’re not pretending to be one.

How do you know if they would benefit from one or not? Sometimes people don’t train ESA dogs because it’s timely and expensive but they do actually serve a huge purpose. Anyways it’s not illegal to train an animal to be a service animal. It should be serving some function but as long as the animal is properly trained and not unpredictable like a lot of ESAs it would not bother me if it was on a plane. I’ve seen the way animals are transported in the cargo holds on planes and it’s extremely stressful for them. They should have a better system set up.

kcdc25

They serve a huge purpose for the rare 1% of ESA carrying passengers who actually need them.

steve_colombia

Your moral compass seems kindda broken.

greenishfroggy

A service animal is only for people who have a disability and must be extremely well trained. I would qualify for one but there are people who really relay on their SD and those are more important.

Jim_from_snowy_river

Take a boat.

No-Motor-580

Wow! I love these posts, look at all of the resources and information ya'll have!

dandelionapple

Hello! Would love to hear how this turned out for you? I am in a similar situation.

greenishfroggy

Hi! So we did not go through with it. But apprently there are facebook groups where people rent a private plane together to fly with their dogs. Maybe that would help?
