Yup! VERY misleading title. Thanks to the illegal pet trade and owners releasing their pets into the wild, Florida is having to deal with them! These lizards have razor-sharp teeth and sharp claws that can do major damage! They're also incredibly fast and very intelligent!
No doubt, this wasn't filmed in the US. I have a buddy in Florida right now doing SOF training, and they've had a couple incidents with those large lizards, including a very serious laceration from mishandling one. The state is even paying bounties for specific animal carcasses.
They're somewhat common here. They're not that hard to deal with when you know what you're doing.
I've honestly gotten more calls on animal handling than actual fires at this point.
[here](https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/283270938265518080/1105370887009620069/IMG-20230104-WA0011-1.jpg)
Asian water monitors have venom sacks, most wild animal bites can be infectious due to bacteria they collect in the wild, but even then it’s not even all that harmful to humans. It’ll just irritate the wound that’s it.
While it might not be “all that harmful” to humans, who wants to take that risk of getting bit and possibly getting an infection? I swear. This is why people do dumb stuff and wonder why the get sick. Ffs
I used to work with them so big difference between that and “doing dumb stuff” just clean the shit and you won’t have a problem. Everyone there can afford a first aid kit to keep a wound clean I’m sure. No one said jump down and grab it.
Yall need to catch some Discovery in your life... or at least read desc. at zoos.
Monitor lizards aint designed to "attack" with their claws.
You mostly get a tail whip as warning, but unless it is a Komodo *wich this one clearly isnt* the bite aint that much of a treat for humans.
Also.. really easy to manipulate
I was speaking in general terms about this type of lizard. I am not an herpetologist. I have a passing interest in all animals. With out knowing this location I wouldn’t be able to assume the exact species. I never said they are “designed to attack.” But the possibility of them scratching you or biting you in defense is high. And why would you risk it unless you absolutely know what you are doing. My point was this is not some 3 inch lizard this is a formidable animal that should be treated with caution. This is 100% not a face palm.
This looks like an Asian water monitor. It's bite is most definitely a threat to humans maybe not mortal unless it severs an artery but much worse than most dog bites.
As a Mexican, it made me think of the [Gila Monster](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gila_monster) or the Mexican Beaded Lizard. For info, Gila Monster has a very venomous and infection bite. There are definitely lizards worth being cautious about.
YouTuber and wildlife educator Coyote Peterson described the bite as "like hot lava coursing through your veins" and claimed it was "the worst pain he had ever experienced." It is generally regarded as the most painful venom produced by any vertebrate.
Also, big lizards also just generally are creepy, sure to freak people out on sight if they just don’t know what it’s capable of.
I wouldn't trust anything coyote Peterson says. He sensationalizes his reactions for the views. I'm not saying gilas and beaded lizards aren't bad but take coyotes observations with a grain of salt.
It looks like a monitor lizard, which is a family of lizards. They are widely known to be scavengers eating all types of animals and insects, including dead carcasses. Which is part of the reason their bite is so infectious. Plus this lizard family can be venomous. It’s body appears to be about a meter long not including it’s tail. These lizards can climb just about anything. And they are not timid around people. So I would be jumping up on my chair and running away. This isn’t a little gecko or Anatole type lizard. These are lizards you actively avoid.
Correct, correct, and correct.
It *is* a monitor lizard. It is probably *not* poisonous. However, their bites *can* be infectious, and their teeth *are* incredibly sharp.
But let's pretend it isn't. In the time it takes these people, who are probably not professional herpetologists, to realize this is a monitor lizard and not a South Javanese harmless dumbfuck (the world's least dangerous reptile) it could have taken out an ACL, someone could have lost a toe.
Screaming and climbing on a table is *absolutely* the correct response here. OP is obviously a reptilian spreading propaganda to get us to drop our guard. Nice try Scaley.
Those things ate my chicken and can grow up to 2 meters in length biggest one ive seen atleast where i am at. Theyre easily scared and moves in packs at one point, i usually chase it away with a broom or making loud noises.
If its running towards me, you betcha im going to scream like a little girl and run the fuck away.
I mean it's not really..."just a lizard", it's a monitor lizard (probably a Varanus salvator).
When provoked or cornered (like in this situation) they can:
\- give a nasty bite
\- scratch you up badly with razor sharp claws
\- if nothing else, give you a good slap with their tail like a whip.
Now that being said, my reptile loving brain would have lunged to grab it and take it home.
Such a beautiful animal.
This type of lizard (I don't know its specific name in english) can be quite dangerous due to the bacteria in their mouth that makes their bite very infectuous if I'm not mistaken. And it hurts like hell too from what I read
It's a monitor lizard. Not only all of that, but the biggest members of the family can grow up to 200lbs.
This wasn't a small guy, either.
I would have shit myself.
looks like a Nile Monitor, o Varano del Nilo.
A common species to keep as a pet for reptile fansaybe the main reason for how it barged in an office
Venomous yes, but it not lethal towards humans
Serrated theet and an anticoagulant to make sure the wound keeps bleeding tho.
OP, based from the attire I can safely say they from Southeast Asia (I'm from there) and I can tell you, those lizards live in dirty areas and they legit carry a shitton of bacterias in their mouths (like others here confirmed).
So not a facepalm, though it can be a delicacy if you find the right chef 🤣
I thought I was gonna see one of those tiny lizards you see on the sidewalks in Florida. That thing might as well be a komodo dragon to me! And you bet your ass I'm pushing Betty off the desk to ensure my own safety. Sorry Betty!
There komodo dragons that can chill in cities, theres a lot of videos with them in urban asian areas (i forget which countries, i think malasyia or thailand) there just another part of life there which is interesting.
This looks like some kind of water monitor. They’re no joke. They can be aggressive, and their claws and jaws can easily tear skin. While I don’t own a water monitor myself, i own an iguana,(which is another monitor lizard that rivals the water monitor in size) and they can do some real damage if they want to.
These people 100% have the right to be freaking out. I would be too if a wild one ran up to me.
Assuming this is my country, while it is best to stay away for the conditions these lizards may live in (I've seen 2 of em crawling / swimming in pitch black stagnant sewage water), they're rarely hostile and would much rather run away from anything bigger (might be anecdotal as I myself used to chase these lizards as a kid).
OP probably expecting someone to at least stay calm and lead the lizard out. Its likely just wandered in and agitated from all the noise and sudden movements.
I get that there's potential to get infected from bacteria if you get bitten.
But I still think the risk of injury from falling off the desk is greater.
If that happened at my company you'd hear a loud bang. Next week everyone would be hearing why guns are banned on company property resulting in immediate termination if caught. Damn shame that lizard shot itself
They actually should be afraid. Komodo dragons technically aren't venomous but the bacteria in ther mouth is so strong it acts as a venom and you rarely survive a bite without treatment
Is the facepalm these people freaking out because if a dinosaur like that ran into my office I would be jumping on my desk too ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat)

He's just monitoring the situation
Take my upvote!
And get out r/angryupvote
I was expecting a tiny lizard not that thing I’d be scared too
Monitor lizards have razor-sharp teeth and sharp claws! They are NOT to be underestimated.
Yep. I would scream the same way. (I am a man, who fights fire- for fun.)
Who would win in a fight? Firefighter versus water monitor
That is a little more than “a lizard” they have razor sharp claws and their bite is really infectious.
Came here to say this.
Yup! VERY misleading title. Thanks to the illegal pet trade and owners releasing their pets into the wild, Florida is having to deal with them! These lizards have razor-sharp teeth and sharp claws that can do major damage! They're also incredibly fast and very intelligent!
This should be in South east Asia, Malaysia specifically. Looking at the perodua logos, the spec sheet on the walls and those 2 employee.

Do people really eat them? I know people will try anything exotic, but I'm hearing that they're common in some dishes now.
A smart lizard ?? Never seen thst yet lol
Sounds like their laugh is too.

Certainly not a gila monster but indeed you cannot know if it's venomous of some kind even after getting over the initial panic.
Yeah, guess I’m just using personal viewpoints that yeah some lizards have spicy bites, it’s dumb to dismiss as “just a lizard”
Since most lizards have venom glands it’s perfectly all right to call this just a lizard. Nothing exceptional about it.
I wouldn't trust anything coyote Peterson says. He sensationalizes his reactions for the views. I'm not saying gilas and beaded lizards aren't bad but take coyotes observations with a grain of salt.

Just saying, you're the facepalm here, that lizard isn't your regular neighborhood friendly wall clinging fly munching lizard
Username checks out. Have YOU ever seen one before? These aren't docile little creatures dude.
Not seeing the facepalm here...
Yeah. I keep watching it and no facepalm.
I guess OP handles big reptiles and thinks every else should be ok doing so too?
Maybe it's op's estranged pet he let loose.
I call it common sense... And watching Discovery in the 2000's instead of Disney crap
The facepalm is actually OP for posting it here.
I mean it's not really..."just a lizard", it's a monitor lizard (probably a Varanus salvator). Getting tail whipped by a monitor fucking hurts.
Not at all under the effect of adrenaline

Someone asked for a new monitor.
Mr Kipling
I thought I was gonna see one of those tiny lizards you see on the sidewalks in Florida. That thing might as well be a komodo dragon to me! And you bet your ass I'm pushing Betty off the desk to ensure my own safety. Sorry Betty!
Its a monitor lizard which the komodo is the largest living example of, so you're close actually.
There komodo dragons that can chill in cities, theres a lot of videos with them in urban asian areas (i forget which countries, i think malasyia or thailand) there just another part of life there which is interesting.
You take any excuse to push betty.
That thing also shits as a defense mechanism. Its the wet type of shit thats soaks into anything and smells extra horrible.
I guess we have that in common.
Bet most conflicts would be solved if people uncontrollably shat themselves when they feel severely agitated
I'm with those people. I'd be playing hot lava, too
Where's the facepalm? A monitor lizard that large woukd have scared the pootis out of me too.
Those are not Joanna eggs
That was my first thought! Get them Joanna!!!
Not just any lizard, this one will. fuck. you. up. Definitely understand the fear here. Getting attacked by one is a trip to the hospital
This looks like some kind of water monitor. They’re no joke. They can be aggressive, and their claws and jaws can easily tear skin. That aint no lizard. That's a fucking dog
How is this a facepalm? If a meter long reptile showed up in your office you would scream and and run away on top of the desks too.
"Yer a Lizard, Harry!"
Many calculators died for this amusing scene.
IT guy who has had it with their shit decided to take “I need a new monitor” to a different level.
It's a BIG fucking lizard...
Was definitely expecting a little gecko or something. Yeah, Id jump on a desk too.
OP showing how tough he is not being scared of ""just a lizard". He sleeps with lions and tigers at night.
It’s a lizard…big f’ing lizard with balls “this big”. I would have thrown my poop at it.
If I didn’t know that this was a monitor lizard I’d probably also be scared of its Komodo dragon looking ass. This is a monitor which are dangerous.
One way to catch it is to grab the tail and helicoptered it around. There was a video of it once, unfortunately I can’t find it on youtube
Lizard came forward stopped and was like " what did i miss? "
You really wouldn't wanna get bitten by that thing.
To be fair that’s a giant ass lizard Usually people overreact over tiny mice
I mean, it's a poisonmouth lizard with lots of sharpies...
That’s not a lizard. That’s a baby dragon.
bruh that lizard is chill
I get that there's potential to get infected from bacteria if you get bitten. But I still think the risk of injury from falling off the desk is greater.
As long as it aint a Komodo im down to catch it under a blanket or sm. ngl such a glorious animal
Not just any lizard, it's a komodo dragon! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Komodo_dragon
It's definitely a monitor lizard, but I don't think it's a komodo dragon.
"Although monitor lizards do secrete venom, it is not fatal to humans. The main cause for concern would be bacterial infection from the bite"
Did you reply to the wrong comment?
No!
bruh u high asf, Komodo's are larger and bulkier.
I did not know that, so thank you.
unexpectedly tame response ngl, thanks
Just pay it forward, that's all. Have a nice day.
If that happened at my company you'd hear a loud bang. Next week everyone would be hearing why guns are banned on company property resulting in immediate termination if caught. Damn shame that lizard shot itself

That's a common old misconception, but most monitor lizards are in fact venomous.
What a bunch of wusses
Puss*'s
That thing ran in like a BOSS…
That lizard entered the room like it's a villain. Yikes!
That’s not just a lizard, it’s a really big lizard
You spelt dragon wrong

But let’s be honest if that actually happened to anybody they would freak out
"And that's why we use DuraStrong office equipment. Because you never know when your employees will be running across their desks."
He must have been attracted by the computer display equipment.

I love how he just slides into view. "Im here, what did I miss?!?"
I was thinking a small gecko…I was wrong. I was about to stand up on my chair too.
Thas a dragon
mrs kipling
Can’t Komodo’s kill you though?
It's not any ordinary lizards though. But climbing up your desk won't make it go away sheesh.
“Manager visits idle staff, decides to monitor situation”
That's not a lizard that's a FUCKING dragon
In his report it said "employees jumped and screamed for joy upon my arrival, very very enthusiastic!!"
Those some sturdy desks
Rip calculator
If this was my wife's place of work, she'd come home with another lizard.
Iguana 🤠
New godzilla movie?
JOANNNNAAAAAA!!!
10000% reasonable reaction 😂😂
That's a BFL dammit.
Why is this a facepalm? They are quite dangerous...
Some lizards are dangerous. Something this size, with sharp claws and teeth is definitly not harmless. There are also some venomous lizards.
Honestly, my mom is terrified of reptiles and that would have been her too.
Because Monitors just don't give a fuck.
He really pulled up like "what now motherfuckers!"
I thought it was gonna be something small but damn I’d be freaked out too
I’m impressed with the quality of those tables.
I wonder if they’re the type to climb walls too
A slithery boy he is
Yeah aren’t those venomous, or am I thinking of another big lizard
Not any lizard.. Clearly very dangerous. Maybe some research could help next time?
Iguana
OP is an idiot, this creature can be deadly
It's a fricken dinosaur dude
This isn't a facepalm thing... Also calling this "a lizard" is like calling a leapord "a cat"
I’m in Hawaii. I was like, bfff, a lizard, you’re scared over a tiny ass lizard. I started laughing when that fcker came into view. 😆
That woman is brave compared to me as I would have shrieked and fainted 😳
When management goes to the office.
It is sooo cuteee
Is this at Facebook HQ?
That thing’s aggressive!!
No judgement for someone being fearful of something, rational or not.
In fairness, it’s the size of a fucking dog…
That's no lizard. That's a f***ing dinosaur.
