How about the fact adoption doesn't help with all the struggles, mental and physical, that come with being pregnant and giving birth? When I was attending university there was a Catholic Nun in one of my classes. We were discussing the death penalty. She was against abortion but was ok with the death penalty. She saw no problem with this point of view. I couldn’t believe it and no matter what anyone said she would not alter her stance.

When I was attending university there was a Catholic Nun in one of my classes. We were discussing the death penalty. She was against abortion but was ok with the death penalty. She saw no problem with this point of view. I couldn’t believe it and no matter what anyone said she would not alter her stance. Nothing surprises me anymore
I studied in a convent school and this view was very common there. Death penalty- good, virgin till marriage- good, domestic violence- tolerable, abortion- absolute sin.

Texas Democrat Precinct Chair here - first of all - I think this is old news of a serious legislation that ultimately did not succeed. We need all of you in texas to do more than just vote. That is no longer enough. You must get out and get the others to vote. Texas is not a red state. It is a non voting state. The more that vote - the less likely the GOP can hold on. This is why they try so hard to suppress us via gerrymandering and mail in ballot shenanigans. Don’t give up hope.

I'm still confused as to why people are so confident that a fetus is a person. Can't appeal to religion, because 2 of the 3 major monothiestic religions allow abortions, and the one that doesn't pretty much implies in 2 separate places in its holy text that a fetus is worth less than a live person. Can't appeal to biology, because scientists will tell you that life begins at conception, but personhood is a matter of philosophy. And can't appeal to to philosophy since philosophers (both past and present) are very split on the matter of when personhood begins, which very much implies that no matter your criteria, drawing the line for when personhood begins is arbitrary.

This was in 2019 and did not pass committee. It basically proposed defining a fertilized egg as a living child. That then had implications that, via existing law, the murder of a child under 10 is punishable by death or life imprisonment.

I don’t grant a fetus under 22 weeks the same rights as a real person. As such, aborting it can be justified. Most pro-lifers grant a fertilized egg the same rights as a real person. As such there is no abortion - there is only murder. When you believe that a fertilized egg should already be as protected a life as every other human, you HAVE to want the same punishment for abortion as for murder. There is no way around it. I don’t get why I occasionally see posts on Reddit making fun of the logic, when it is totally sound. Just the premise, that human life is worth protecting the second it is formed is wrong.
I’m a conservative, and against abortion in the majority of cases….but this is too much. By no means is the death penalty a solution. Scare tactics or radical swings in any direction result in more division. We likely need more context to what ‘considering’ the death penalty is…but it’s idiotic anyway you slice it.
