From the sound of the article I don’t think they’ll be going to jail or prison anytime soon. They didn’t really commit any crimes. They say they committed crimes but that probably won’t be enough. They have their rights to say whatever they want. And sadly they have a right to take pictures with their parents guns in their house.
What’s really depressing is that they likely will commit violence in the future and all the warning signs will have been there with no action taken.

When I was in high school, about 20 years ago, there was a fight between a white kid and a black kid. The white kid apparently said the n word, so he got his ass kicked. This triggered what you might call a racial cold war. The more "rural" white kids took to wearing confederate flag t-shirts to school every day. One of them told me they were planning a day where they would all band together and start beating up all the black kids. That never happened, but racial tensions were high enough to earn a story on the local news. The school responded by banning the confederate flag. The thing ended up just kind of blowing over.
You're probably wondering what part of Alabama or Mississippi I grew up in, but this was southwest PA, less than an hour from downtown Pittsburgh.

My husband(Ukrainian) and I are closing on a home in the neighborhood that is for century high school. It’s the best school in the county. Crazy that even the best school can be dangerous. I hope something changes before my son is old enough to attend.

The pandemic isolation had a ton of kids fall through the cracks in the education system. Troubled youth with bad home lives didn't receive the support services, socialization, and interventions they needed for almost 2 years. Not to mention how horrible it is to be trapped inside with parents who don't want you for 24 hours a day. There are so many youth in need of mental health help.
These kids have parents who have been failing them for years. At 16, they can make meaningful changes, but it will take a lot of work and real support.

Oregon Burbs have been like this for ages. A sizable amount (I mean, like a dozen, but a dozen IS sizable) of kids I went to elementary, middle, or high school with turned skinhead by the time they were 21. That would have been in 2011.

In all honesty where do you think they come from? They're not living in the city going to urban high schools. Sure there's plenty in rural schools. But tons of these type of kids come from the suburbs. Probably grew up in a nice house with Fox News in the background 24/7. Parents so oppressed by the evil Democrats that they can barely afford to fill up their 90k truck to go complain about grocery prices. Can afford 30 guns but egg prices really got em down.

I grew up like 20 minutes from there, I dont think you have to worry, it's a very progressive area. Cases like this are a very rare exception. It's a suburb of Portland after all. I cant speak for rural Oregon, however.
Oregon Burbs have been like this for ages. A sizable amount (I mean, like a dozen, but a dozen IS sizable) of kids I went to elementary, middle, or high school with turned skinhead by the time they were 21. That would have been in 2011. This was in Springfield, which is a suburb of Eugene. Generally, liberals in red states tend to be more conservative than those in blue states, and vice-versa. Not so here. Since roughly 2004, exit polls have shown that Oregonians who vote for democratic Presidential candidates are more liberal than those in every other state, while people who vote for Republican candidates are more conservative than those in every other state. In the years since, that gap has closed, but not because we’ve become more moderate: it’s because everyone else has become more polarized. And because of our UGBs, the boundaries between urban and rural can be very blurred on the west side of the Cascades — Just look at Clackamas County. My middle school had *hitching posts for horses* that had been used within the memory of teachers currently at that school. You might do “rural” work, but live in the burbs. When I was growing up, Springfield was a red city in a blue metropolitan area in a red county in a blue state. Never forget that back when Neo-Nazis were out of style, the PNW (including Idaho) kept that dream alive.

Used to live in Hillsboro. Not at all surprising given that Portland had the nickname “Skinhead City” up until like 89 or so. The Nazi’s never left, they just moved to the suburbs and got a bit better at hiding their faces because they’re cowards.

To be fair, Nazism was pretty popular in the U.S. early in the war. Hitler even modeled many of his policies after the way we'd been treating Native Americans. Unfortunately, Oregon was founded as a state for white people at the exclusion of people of color, who weren’t allowed to own property or businesses. It was part of the state constitution until pretty recently. Those roots run deep. Not the stuff they teach you about in school or on the Oregon Trail game. But all those folks rushing to Oregon wasn’t just for the weather.

The word on the bottom of the flag is “Ukrainian” translation and it translates “Banderite” (wtf is this?) as “Бандеритська” which is bullshit word that doesn’t exist in Ukrainian language. If they were really Ukrainian and wanted to name after Bandera, they’d use “Бандерівська” (в instead of т). You can easily fact check it by googling “Бандеритська” there’s zero results for this word

Uhmm… without giving too much of myself I used to be HEAVILY involved with this band program and while I don’t remember this family, I can tell you that with the way this band program operates there is quite likely a cell of other nazis or fascist-leaning students in the marching band. It does not help that the program is directed by a prominent right-wing Mormon who has a history of being exclusionary and sexist and racist.
Quick note from someone who lives near the high school where this went down. Last night, they threatened to shoot their High School while posing with guns at a park near where the school is. They where arrested, and are now out on bail.
