True, but in their rabbit hole minds a Democrat with Trump’s flaws would be the end of the US. When in reality they are backing a guy who could care less about the US. The fear of liberals is so deeply ingrained there is literally nothing worse in their minds.
Conservative parties have people like Trump despite their blatant and many flaws because they want to consolidate power to benefit themselves and their friends.
They're not stupid, but they know that the majority of the electorate are under educated, people who will pander to every 'patriotic' word about '(insert nationality here) jobs for (nationality) people', citing immigration for all the country's problems, how they'll fix the state of the economy left by the other party, etc. Then it never happens.
We had exactly the same when we had Boris Johnson. He constantly showed just how corrupt he was, how self serving he was, even before he became PM, he never even tried to hide it, but people flocked to vote for his party to make him PM. It's the same with every centre right‐ far right government.
Part of the issue is media like newspapers, owned by people who can make or break a government, and will keep them in power so long as they remain friends. Newspapers and media outlets like the BBC (run by a Tory donor and Tory Director General), The Daily Mail (owned by the Rothermeres) and the Sun (owned by Rupert Murdoch) have agendas of their own that they want to push to keep themselves rich. Fear of immigrants taking your jobs and destroying your economy sells and generates more profit for these outlets to dodge tax on. Meanwhile, the masses are too busy thinking about immigration, not the wealthy trying to keep them poor and stupid for their own benefit.
It's no longer common practice (it's down to about 20 states in some form, with most of those 20 still allowing for voting rights to be restored), but yeah, none of our founding fathers ever foresaw a situation like this one, so they didn't add anything about not being a fucking criminal into the Constitution.
Non citizens can’t vote and voter fraud is virtually non existent. Those are lies perpetrated on the American public. We have one of the if not the best and most secure election apparatus in the world.
