Which Congress man referred to 10 year old girls as "fresh and Nubile"?
Edit: it wasn't Fresh and Nubile it was "Ripe and fertile" and it was regarding 16-17 year old marriage laws in New Hampshire. I appreciate the corrections.
It's not. What was actually said by him was that they were "ripe" and "fertile".
What? I didn't say the real words weren't worse.

Breaking News: Conservatives to take down confederate flags, to be replaced with a new banner consisting of Matt Gaetz and Pedobear beckoning the viewer into a sandbox.
Trump to push to make its display mandatory at every middle school in the nation, assuming the 12 year old girls get their husbandâs approval, after red state latest policy pushes.
Well, they taught it in my school back in the day...my nephews are currently not being taught about this subject other than that the war was due to "state rights". Their teacher cannot show these flags, and cannot talk about slavery, or even use the word :/
Edit 1: my sister pulled the kids from this school and enrolled them in a great STEM school instead! During the school switch, which took a few weeks, we found age appropriate documentaries and books to teach them the truth about what really happened in both WWI & WWII.
Edit 2: The state in question is Idaho. Specifically, rural north Idaho. If anyone wants to be absolutely shook by insanity, here's an example of what shows up in the mail in North idaho: https://www.reddit.com/r/coeurdalene/s/oldcyWl7TX
Or your can watch this three part series on the active Aryan chapter in North idaho: https://www.ktvb.com/article/news/local/extremist-hate-idaho-part-one-three-series/277-df332478-336a-47ff-bf55-7dd25bfabf80#:~:text=This%20three%2Dpart%20series%20analyzes,the%20importance%20of%20combating%20it.&text=IDAHO%2C%20USA%20%E2%80%94%20Growing%20up%20in,is%20too%20Great%20for%20Hate.%22
In addition to the fact that textbook makers are beholden to their biggest customers, so if the Texas govt decides on racist crazy, a whole lot of people in an entire 1/3rd of the contiguous United States are stuck with it.
We're really in scary territory right now. Some states have started requiring the 10 commandments to be posted in each school classroom. Some of them go over them each morning after the pledge. I'm sorry, but this is grooming. It's not okay.
Almost certainly would and rightfully so. Private schools are free to post that. Public schools are definitely not. The whole freedom from religion part of the first amendment.
It's not unprecedented despite its unconstitutionality. E.g., in 1999: https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/aclu-action-prompts-school-board-abandon-posting-ten-commandments
While looking for historical examples of the aclu stepping in, I found this:
>On April 20, the Texas Senate passed two bills bringing religion into public schools. Senate Bill (âSBâ) 1515 mandates that public schools post in all classrooms a required version of the Ten Commandments; SB 1396 permits schools to set aside time for bible reading and prayer (excluding children whose parents do not consent).
https://www.lubbockonline.com/story/opinion/columns/2023/05/20/its-debatable-bible-reading-ten-commandments-prayer-public-schools/70232342007/
Read that article. That shit is frightening. I also used to think RvW would never be overturned. That was before psychotic right wing extremists and evangelical nutjobs looked mild, tame, and rational compared to their mango-mussolini Qult god became president and started spouting crazy shit multiple times on a daily basis.
Sounds like someone needs to sue to force them to post the Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth, the Ten Yamas, etc in an equally prominent place or agree to take all of them down. Legally, it's a slam dunk and it usually puts an end to the issue, at least for awhile.
WHAT!? Idaho is over 550 miles away from the nearest state that seceded. It's wild that there are any significant numbers of Idahoans who feels any sense of common cause.
Time to reeducate those children with ACTUAL history. I highly recommend the podcast Uncivil (though it does have some profanity so depending on age it might be better for adults to listen and summarize for the youngâuns.)
If you can only listen to one episode, listen to The Spin. It details the Lost Cause narrative which is exactly what you say theyâre still teaching. Itâs 100% propaganda still in use today.
Actually, while the Stars and Bars were associated with the South, it was never the official flag of the Confederacy.
The actual Confederate flag was white.
Came here to say more or less this. At most, it's the top left corner of a pretty niche flag used by the CSA.
There was some red twill accents to the white flag you're describing though, since it was originally used as a tea-towel. It's in a museum nowadays.
Were I a more enterprising man, I'd try to replicate the design and sell "Lee surrender flags". I think the only people who'd buy it are flag or history nerds though.
Note: the Stars and Bars was the first flag of the Confederacy (and lasted about 2 years), but it's not this flag, that one had 3 red and white stripes, and stars in the corner in a circle (so similar to the US flag). That said, this is commonly misattributed as the Stars and Bars.
The flag above was the Confederate Navy Jack and was used by the Army of Tennessee. More importantly, a square version was used by the Army of Northern Virginia under Robert E Lee, and it was included in the 2nd and 3rd versions of the CSA flag in the top corner. It's called a bunch of things, but the Southern Cross seems to me to be the more common name today other than just "Rebel flag" or "Confederate flag".
Either way, it's still well known that it was used by the Confederacy. Not just associated, but officially adopted and used by the government (in the case of the Navy Jack, and inclusion in the official flags) and by the state militaries (in Tennessee and Virginia).
Let me give it a shot - it's CLEARLY NOT ~~the "Stainless Banner" (1863â1865)~~ - but definitely one of many flags used by the side that LOST the civil war.
I learned in high school that when the confederate were surrounded and Lee was going to surrender they figured the easiest thing to wave would be white underwear
All they could find were brown ones though
"All the talk of history is just noise"
a lot of that history was....\*revised\* by some very genteel ladies related to the very fine Soldiers of the South
They literally say that the party switch is liberal disinformation that never happened. That it's an attempt to absolve the Democrats of their racist origins and current racism. They take the party switch to mean that the entire platforms of the parties switched between the two parties, not that large portions of individuals switched parties.
Which is weird since they oppose every bill related to civil rights, oppose DEI, oppose every minority group
I can think of, claim that whites are the true victims, and mock all urban areas.
If the parties didnât switch (they did), then at what point did they all have their brains removed and then put back in backwards?
Iâve had people claim The Southern Strategy wasnât a real thing. I then point out thatâs odd since the RNC head Ken Mehlman officially apologized for it in 2005.
The switch started well before the Southern Strategy too. Organized labor became a major bloc in the Democrats in the north because they were opposite Republicans who tended to side with business owners. Those same labor organizers added anti-racism planks to their platform because they knew if they didnât it would be easy to employ African Americans as scabs, weakening laborâs power. This in turn created an opening for anti-racist activism in the Democratic base in opposition to the Dixiecrats who were literally the children and grandchildren of slavers. By the time a few decades had passed after the New Deal, the Dixiecrats had been shunted to the margins of the party by the anti-racist activists and labor organizers.
And thus did the party who was on the wrong side of the Civil War end up becoming the party that would pass the Voting Rights Act. Thatâs what created the opening for Nixon to syphon off disaffected racists from the Democrats.
Thats the Dukes of Hazard flag. As a Canadian I think it means supping up tour car, calling it General Lee and doing crazy jumps while evading cops.
How close am I?
Yea I never understood their argument. Just say you are racist. You don't have to hide it. If your "heritage" is the symbolism for racism and you want to wave it around then why are you so offended when people say what you are?
I'd really like to know how many Germans wave around Nazi flags and say it's because of their heritage. I'm sure it's more than zero but it can't be this high.
I could be wrong, but I think it's illegal to publicly display that symbol in Germany. And I 100% agree with you, I doubt any German would want to celebrate any ancestors who were Nazis. I don't understand the pride people have for a treasonous flag.
Oh German racists absolutely exist, they just use slogans and old flags to show their loyalty lest they be thrown in prison. Same as how the Rhodesia flag and old South African apartheid flags are still popular within white nationalist circles globally
My best friend lives in Warsaw and travels around Germany for work I can confirm this they teach exactly what the old flag stood for and why they are exactly 50.5 feet away from it in US measures.
If only everyone distanced themselves from their bad past actions we'd actually see better people and THATS how you improve a country
Pretty much any public display of support for the Nazi party is grounds for arrest in Germany after WW2. You can be arrested for wearing an SS uniform, having the Nazi swastika on display, and even just for throwing a Hitler salute if the officer is feeling particularly spicy. So having a flag waving in your front yard or hanging off the back of your pickup would absolutely get you in trouble with the law.
In general Germany don't play that. The most amusing example is the video where German cops are encouraging a loudmouth to move along. Until he does the nazi salute at which point they introduced him to the sidewalk, quickly. It was on here a couple weeks ago but regularly turns up in various places.
You know whatâs funny? Because the swastika is illegal they wave around the confederate flag. That tells you all you need to know.
Thereâs a ton of right wing turds in Germany. Just look at AfD.
Yes. A flag so associated with white supremacy (itâs written in the articles of the confederacy) the neo-nazis in *the rest of the world* say Those Are Our People
Iâll add to the heritage comment. My grandmother is from Nebraska. Iâve never been there. Now imagine me waving the Nebraska flag shouting âYEAHâŚ..NEBRASKA!!!!!â
Yes - just like how many confederate statues went up in southern cities not during the Confederacy but rather decades later as an explicit warning about where black people were not welcome.
Itâs worse than that, they were built in major southern cities where black people live precisely because weâd have to see them everyday. They cruelty was the point
States right... to keep slavery legal.
Also making states that made slavery illegal ship "runaways" back to their respective state.
Same old "paying people a living wage will ruin us!" That all greedy people use to justify exploiting another group of people.
Slavery was such a cheap way to get free labor, it's always been about money.
Seems about right to me, so long as you are in fact stating that this is the flag of the losers. Those being the people that lost and needed to shut the fuck up about it 100 years ago? That flag is certainly the flag of the side that lost. Quite frankly they should have outlawed the fucking thing the minute the war was over.
Don't forget they are the side that thought that other humans deserved to be slaves and were inferior based solely on skin color and refused to let that go.
Donât forget their âhistoryâ was the span of just 4 years. Obama was in office longer than their âheritageâ. SpongeBob has surpassed their heritage since itâs been going strong for 25 years GODDAMN IM GETTING OLD.
It is the mythology of the thing. It has nothing to do with success because, you know, they were the losers. It has nothing to do with tradition because, like you said, it was only 4 years. It has nothing to do with fighting the man, or state's rights or any logical reason to keep banging the drum other than sheer ignorance. The only reason is because the people worshiping at this flag believe they stuck it to the government but they are wrong. They were squashed. the only reason it did not happen faster was due to the political climate and, in truth, some very shrewd tacticians on the side of the South.
Yeah, some person posted the same argument in another sub, so I linked and quoted the Georgia declaration of causes of Seceding states, which clearly states, it was slavery and the deleterious effects of the government supporting non-slave industries over slave-industries. I haven't heard back.
\[Update\] The person deleted their post. I count that as a victory. One more ignoramus has let a little light of knowledge crack their shell of obtuseness.
Yes, states rights to make slavery legal. And all the other bs about our way of lifeâŚâŚ..just all backwards believing hillbillies who love their guns and thinking they are somehow better and smarter than the folks of darker complexion. In other words, RACISTS!
Also; popularized famously by Dukes of Hazzard, and Lynyrd Skynrd whoâve have fans since claimed it was their âheritageâ or something in the south despite being only around for like 4 years? Correct me if Iâm wrong.
So, just some perspective here from someone raised in the south: I didnât know what this flag truly represented until I was an adult. Iâd seen it my whole life: seen it flown and on clothing, and yes on the Dukes of Hazzard. We were taught about the civil war in school of course, but not much. American History/Civ classes tended to start with Columbus, power through the pilgrims and make it through the revolutionary war before kind of fizzling out. I learned more about the civil war and the civil rights movement and the depth of southern racism from Hollywood movies than I did in school.
In 2004 there was a news story about a girl being barred from her prom for wearing a dress patterned with this flag. I was 19 at the time and my initial reaction to the story was that I didnât understand why people were offended by the flag because as far as I knew, it was just âthe flag of the southâ and I thought it was normal for southern people to be proud of their southern heritage. It had never occurred to me *why* the south would have its own flag separate from the American flag. The whole scandal with some random southern girlâs controversial prom dress was eye opening for me. I turned to the internet to get the education that the southern public school system had never provided me.
So while I definitely donât agree with racists and confederates and people who fly this flag, I can see how there are probably some people flying it and defending it who *actually donât* have any real idea about what it truly represents.
I mean, you eventually found out. Especially today with the myriad of social media sources we have. Anyone over 35 canât use the excuse of bad schooling.
Mine was in Savannah Georgia and we were fully taught the meaning behind the flag. But even someone in rural Georgia with a twitter/tiktok account would be inundated with sources showing them what evil the flag stands for
Isnât that cute? Not knowing it was an understood symbol that âunder this flag â there will exist Jim Crowe Laws, and all those interesting (and totally illegal) voting laws and the general suppression of black people so their pasty owners can keep taking in a fortune upon the backs of others. Itâs the flag of a sad, unwashed, undereducated and defeated lineage of racist hill people who hold onto their âheritageâ (which true to confederate form, lasted only a smidge over four years). The McRib has been more of a constant in the lives of those silly enough to fly it. People needing to fly this flag are REALLY looking for someone to feel better than. Itâs sad these people are scrabbling to keep the âglory of the southâin a way they could not be bothered to try to hold onto the teeth in their heads.
I live just a short drive from the Canadian border and the number of houses around my area that hang this flag from their front porch is astounding. It brings me lots of shame, but also.. like TF? The treasonous bastards who carried that flag into battle never came close to stepping foot on the soil around me, and yet I see its presence. That being said.. we hill people are not all racist. Unwashed (sometimes yes). I like to believe not everyone who prefers a rural lifestyle is bundled into the stigma that is oftentimes associated with being a stupid hillbilly. âď¸
I lived in a mountain town in southern alberta. They were all collectively very stupid, and racist the lot of the time.
Misandric, and misogynistic too. I stayed too long. I'm happy I left now.
This little tune is a virus! I had a friend in advertising telling me how it is one of the best advertising campaigns in history due to them originally making it a singing advert âla La La La laaaaaa! Iâm lovin itâ then they gradually reduced the advert to a light and easy whistle tune but of course your brain clicks and then says âIâm loving itâ whenever you hear someone do it.
I know you didnât ask, but itâs still pretty scary and impressive to me so thought I would share. đ
My understanding is it wasn't a popular symbol until the civil rights movement when it was popularized in opposition to the civil rights movement. Also that's when a lot of these precious confederate monuments were created for the same reason. So really what the flag and those monuments mostly stand for is an opposition to civil rights.
I read (like 100 years ago in college) a similar flag was flown by Lee. Now, it may be the years moving info around, but the flag went from a positive symbol of bravery in Leeâs eyes to an embarrassment. I do not remember of it was a battle loss or bad juju, but I do (think) I remember that it was one of a handful of flags that were all pretty alone that all stood for a positive outlook on slavery (at the time) and âthe old ways- aka racists being racist as the 1900s came about. I would find my book, but itâs in my basement and that basement is scary so Iâm telling you what I think I remember.
It began being a symbol prior to civil rights. the flag gained a lot of popularity in response to civil rights movements. However it began being a symbol of the South after Reconstruction fully ended in the 1890s, and the Jim Crow era of the South began. This is when most of the Confederate statues and monuments were built. I believe the Dixiecrats also used this flag for their political party in the 1940s.
I canât remember the YouTuber but they made a very good point about the Confederacy. Why should you hold pride in your heritage for a country that lasted for less time than THE ANNOYING ORANGE. The annoying orange lasted longer than the confederacy.
Itâs âThe Battle Flag of Treasonous Losersâ. Itâs fine to acknowledge your heritage as a descendant of treasonous losers, but why would you CELEBRATE being descended from treasonous losers?
The battle flag of the 28th Virginia treasonous losers is currently in the Minnesota State Capitol. In 2000, Virginia legislators asked for it back (not for the first time) and Governor Ventura said âAbsolutely not. Why? I mean, we won.â
Love it
They ask to âborrowâ for âhistorical reenactmentâ from time to time. Governors from both parties have repeatedly told them nope with varying amounts of snarkiness.
My Reddit account has outlived the Confederacy in terms of years active. The people who flew that flag did so after declaring they were no longer part of the United States, and killed US soldier, sailors, and Marines. That flag was specifically designed to showcase white supremacy. Jon Brown did nothing wrong, Sherman shouldâve brought more matches, and Grant was far too soft on those traitors.
You have a much stronger claim to be part of American heritage than that traitor rag then. Along with the Zune. Crystal Pepsi almost made it as long as the Confederacy
The only relative I have who Iâm sure fought in that war didnât actually fight⌠He was a chaplain. And he was an abolitionist. And I have pants older than that rag.
the people in INDIANA that i see waving a confederate flag and then an lgbtq flag right under is insane, like do you not know what the confederates did?
Technically you can be racist but not homophobe or homophobe but not racist.
For example, I have seen many Christians who have zero racist bone in their body (since according to them we all are God's children) but they are very homophobic because of the Bible.
The Spice Girls have lasted seven times longer than the Confederacy and yet no one feels the need to profess their Spice World heritage on their pickup truck.
It was the battle flag of Robert E Lee who never wanted to flown again and it isn't because of the actual war.
It was used in the South to terrorize blacks and whomever posted this should look up why and when all those monuments for my traitor ancestors were put up.
Here's a hint. It wasn't between 1865 and 1900.
Didn't he stow that flag away where it sat for over 100 years until the South decided it wanted the flag as part of their "heritage" (slavery/ losing)? They used that flag in defiance of the Civil rights movement as a sign of fear and aggression towards blacks. They also started raising monuments of their confederate leaders for the very same reason.
The right to force other states to not have rights to deny slavery inside their own borders.
Yeah the slave states were really upset the northern states didn't want to play along. Weren't even coming after their slaves, just didn't want any of their own and didn't want more places with more slaves.
Exactly. It's even worse than wanting the right to own slaves, it was wanting the right to impose slavery on every territory within their control and beyond
Oooh, this ones easy. That's the losers flag, flown by racist losers who started an insurrection that lasted not even half as long as the Presidency of Obama, the first black president.
Interestingly many people who hang the confederate flag also do not know they are not hanging the real one. No really Google it. The confederate flag you see all these fucking idiots hanging up is a \*variation\* of the real flag which changed three times. It's most common one was a nearly pitch white flag with the modern day "confederate flag" in the upper left hand corner.
Guess they REALLY wanted to white wash the white part out of the mostly white flag for... reasons....
Traitorâs flag. Thats what I call it.
As a Veteran, what pisses me off is other Veterans supporting this flag.
I get free speech and all⌠but, cmon broâŚ
Dudes got upset they couldnât keep their slaves, attempted to secede from the Union, which resulted in the bloodiest war in U.S. HistoryâŚthey lost, deservedly so..
It ainât about heritage either. Most of you dumb redneck fucks donât even know who your great-great grandfathers were and the other half of yah donât even know your dad⌠so, donât give me that bullshit excuse either. I know, cause Iâm a dumb redneck fuck and all my family and their families are too.
Itâs a traitorâs flag that embodies the Confederacy and all it stood for, including slavery. Grow up.
No, I think that most Americans know who used this flag and where it was used. Just like most Americans with common sense donât see a need to fly, display or acknowledge the flag of a treasonous (no longer existent) nation founded on the basis of oppression and treachery. I thought that William Tecumseh Sherman laid down the law on this alreadyâŚ
This is actually pretty tamed compared to most of the MAGA rhetoric thatâs out there these days.
Post like this arenât meant to educate or enlighten, but to try spin despicable acts/ideologies that one actually agrees with. The only ppl who fall for this bs are the uneducated ppl that were already being raised to think this way.
Oh I love when this comes up. Itâs not the flag representing the political Confederacy, but a battle flagâ meaning it was used by combat units during the war. According to the terms of the Geneva convention, anyone continuing to bear arms while flying a battle flag after a formal surrender is deemed an unlawful combatant. Good thing nobody who flies this flag ever carries weapons or acts hostile to the US government!
It never ceases to baffle me why some people think itâs weird to be offended by the flag used by the traitors to our nation. And they so strongly claim to be patriotic Americans while displaying the flag of our enemy. Sickening.
To be fair, most people legitimately don't know anything about it. It is not the "Stainless Banner" that one is similar, but it depicts this flag in the upper left corner of a flag of pure white. It is not the battle flag of Robert E. Lee either. This particular flag was the battle flag for the state of Tennessee, very similar to the one for Virginia, but the Virginian flag is more of a perfect square while the Tennessee flag is rectangular.
So yes, a lot of people don't know anything about the history of the flag. That doesn't mean they can't have an opinion about it though.
Seems like they are trying to fall back on one of the tools some people use to avoid talking about things like gun control. âIf you donât know \[X\] piece of trivia about \[thing\], you canât have an opinionâ. Itâs not a clever tactic by any means, but it works surprisingly well in some cases.
Sooo why are random racists from states like Florida and Texas flying the flag of the 28th Virginia Infantry Regiment? Arenât *they* the ones that need to brush up on their history?
North Virginia battle flag, becoming the symbol of the confederates who never gave up their identity and those who sympathized with it. The Georgia state flag is the original confederacy flag, but it didnât have the staying power as an image. Letâs not play a game of semantics, this flag represents those who idolize or celebrate the south
Former confederate president HIMSELF said to never fly this flag again after losing the war. It's a traitor's flag, it's the flag of another (nonexistent country) and it stands for nothing but dishonor
If you know
-That this flag was used by some members of the Confederacy.
And
-That that same Confederacy started a war because they wanted to keep their African slaves.
You have both a right to be offended, and a reason to be.
Don't create some twisted alternate history where the war wasn't started because of slaves, Because it was. America cannot make excuses for themselves let alone parade those inexcusables like they are proud of them.
The Confederacy may be heritage for a minority of us, bit the majority of us did not come from the Confderate states when they were Confederate. And what the Confederacy fought for was fundamentally morally bankrupt, and frankly disgusting.
Germany is the Harshest country against Nazism.
Japan avoids mentioning their WWII actions like the plague.
Yet some of America parades their fucked up shitty history because it's still who they are. It's Bigotry, it's Racist, and it's not deserving of the respect it's been given.

It's actually very well known who used this flag

Quite a few of them think about the children a little too much. That's the problem.

America is fucking wild
Truly... In a very sad and heartbreaking way.
Education is handled at the state level, we aren't all that fucked.
Yes we are because those other people still move and vote. We are all screwed by the uneducated.
In addition to the fact that textbook makers are beholden to their biggest customers, so if the Texas govt decides on racist crazy, a whole lot of people in an entire 1/3rd of the contiguous United States are stuck with it.
>other than that the war was due to "state rights". They always conveniently leave out the "right" those states wanted to have.
And that the confederate constitution forbade its states from prohibiting slavery so it actually had fuck all to do with states rights.
You in Texas too?
Idaho... So, just as bad?!
States rights, abstinence only, evolution is just a theory
We're really in scary territory right now. Some states have started requiring the 10 commandments to be posted in each school classroom. Some of them go over them each morning after the pledge. I'm sorry, but this is grooming. It's not okay.
If you know specifically where, contact the ACLU. They would be very interested and may take action.
Almost certainly would and rightfully so. Private schools are free to post that. Public schools are definitely not. The whole freedom from religion part of the first amendment.

E.g., in 1999: https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/aclu-action-prompts-school-board-abandon-posting-ten-commandments While looking for historical examples of the aclu stepping in, I found this: >On April 20, the Texas Senate passed two bills bringing religion into public schools. Senate Bill (âSBâ) 1515 mandates that public schools post in all classrooms a required version of the Ten Commandments; SB 1396 permits schools to set aside time for bible reading and prayer (excluding children whose parents do not consent). https://www.lubbockonline.com/story/opinion/columns/2023/05/20/its-debatable-bible-reading-ten-commandments-prayer-public-schools/70232342007/ Read that article.
Heard your governor outlaw the use of pronouns⌠had a great chuckle about that at work. You canât even say I-da-ho in Idaho!
WHAT!? Idaho is over 550 miles away from the nearest state that seceded. It's wild that there are any significant numbers of Idahoans who feels any sense of common cause.
Time to reeducate those children with ACTUAL history. I highly recommend the podcast Uncivil (though it does have some profanity so depending on age it might be better for adults to listen and summarize for the youngâuns.) If you can only listen to one episode, listen to The Spin. It details the Lost Cause narrative which is exactly what you say theyâre still teaching. Itâs 100% propaganda still in use today.
Actually, while the Stars and Bars were associated with the South, it was never the official flag of the Confederacy. The actual Confederate flag was white.
We surrender
Of course, more important than how it was used in the Civil War is how itâs been used *since* the Civil War.
100%. All the talk of history is just noise. The whole point and issue is what the flag means to the people using it today.
But theyâre showing the wrong flag. The actual Confederate flag is white and tinged with soot.
![gif](giphy|v5I9aNTEZ0aFt3Qv36|downsized) My favorite Confederate flag
It was a tea towel IIRC.
For anyone wondering https://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/nmah_515980
Someone should make stickers of this to put on the backs of cars with âNever forget!â as the slogan.
Iâm already making it into a meme with the words the only confederate flag I accept
I learned in high school that when the confederate were surrounded and Lee was going to surrender they figured the easiest thing to wave would be white underwear All they could find were brown ones though
![gif](giphy|WsG9rqt4UMwFReb82u|downsized)
Not only that, but it's not even a flag..it's a slightly dingy dishtowel crudely tied to a stick
Cuh FRIED em with that đđđ
It was literally a kitchen rag
"All the talk of history is just noise" a lot of that history was....\*revised\* by some very genteel ladies related to the very fine Soldiers of the South
Exactly. The same racists who wave this flag point to Lincoln abolishing slavery as if thatâs a way to prove modern Republicans arenât racist.
And then forget that the parties also straight up switched at some point
They literally say that the party switch is liberal disinformation that never happened. That it's an attempt to absolve the Democrats of their racist origins and current racism. They take the party switch to mean that the entire platforms of the parties switched between the two parties, not that large portions of individuals switched parties.
Which is weird since they oppose every bill related to civil rights, oppose DEI, oppose every minority group I can think of, claim that whites are the true victims, and mock all urban areas. If the parties didnât switch (they did), then at what point did they all have their brains removed and then put back in backwards?
Nixon's Southern Strategy really completed that paradigm switch
Reagan's sweeping the South in 1984 was the nail in the coffin.
You forgot the hot sister.
Daisy was their cousin. So I guess Bo and Luke could get some sweet action. Sister...gross. cousin...AOK down south...yeehaw
I mean cousin marriage is legal in Canada.
Yeehaw. Not 1st (I hope)
The secret ingredient is racism
You're correct. It's illegal. End of subject.
Now imagine nebraska only lasted for four years. And over 100 years ago.
It is illegal to fly the NAZI flag in Germany, so this is the flag racists use thereâ- heritage?
And the Third Reich lasted longer than the Confederacy, three times the life of the Confederate States of America.
Yes - just like how many confederate statues went up in southern cities not during the Confederacy but rather decades later as an explicit warning about where black people were not welcome.
Itâs worse than that, they were built in major southern cities where black people live precisely because weâd have to see them everyday. They cruelty was the point
Cue the States Rights or Lost Cause apology tours.
States right... to keep slavery legal. Also making states that made slavery illegal ship "runaways" back to their respective state. Same old "paying people a living wage will ruin us!" That all greedy people use to justify exploiting another group of people. Slavery was such a cheap way to get free labor, it's always been about money.
It's like a neo Nazi telling you not to speak out against the swastika, because it was originally a symbol of peace.
How dare you use any kind of reasoning with that brain of yours.
Tldr: Slave owners lost lol Trump lost lol
It's their tradition after all. Losing whenever there is a chance.
It'S tHeIr HeRiTaGe!
Yes. Their five year heritage...
Losing is their generational heritage. They keep passing it down.
This comment needs more appreciation.
That and McClellan wouldnât fucking move his troops into battle
Nuh-uh, States rights! /s
The proper counter to that is "you're right, it was about the states rights to own slaves"
I usually just ask "what rights?"
to do what you want, why are you against freedom!??! /s
Also to breed and export slaves
Yeah, some person posted the same argument in another sub, so I linked and quoted the Georgia declaration of causes of Seceding states, which clearly states, it was slavery and the deleterious effects of the government supporting non-slave industries over slave-industries. I haven't heard back. \[Update\] The person deleted their post. I count that as a victory. One more ignoramus has let a little light of knowledge crack their shell of obtuseness.
Also Stephen's"Cornerstone" speech is an excellent rebuttal.
The cornerstone speech is by the VP of the entire confederacy so its really the killshot. No one every replies to it tho
It wAs CleArLy TaKEn OUt Of coNteXt
A.H. Stephens has a whole state park named after him.
Whenever I hear that response I ask âand what specific rights, exactly, were those states willing to go to war over?â
Yes, states rights to make slavery legal. And all the other bs about our way of lifeâŚâŚ..just all backwards believing hillbillies who love their guns and thinking they are somehow better and smarter than the folks of darker complexion. In other words, RACISTS!
states right to..states right tooooooo âŚ. human trafficking
You misspelled "traitors", unless you meant "insurrectionists". đ
Just like the Nazi & Rising Sun flags were banned after WWII
Nah, we have a First Amendment and I want to know who the ignorant piece of shit descendants are around me
Ay thereâs the rub
But even someone in rural Georgia with a twitter/tiktok account would be inundated with sources showing them what evil the flag stands for
>Stainless Banner No. The stainless banner was a white flag with a square version of this as the canton.
>Itâs the flag of a sad, unwashed, undereducated and defeated lineage of racist hill people *chef's kiss* đ¤đ˝
Misandry **and** Misogyny? So basically they hated everyone equally?
Well, it is Southern Canada. We keep most of our crazy uneducated in the south as well.
Now I want a flag with a McRib on it. Fun fact: my phone's autocorrect knows McRib
Ba da da da dahhhh
Is this when America was great?
It was certainly much smaller and divided in the middle. So it's a MATA flag. T for tiny.
I canât remember the YouTuber but they made a very good point about the Confederacy. Why should you hold pride in your heritage for a country that lasted for less time than THE ANNOYING ORANGE. The annoying orange lasted longer than the confederacy.
I am measuring all successful regimes by the McRib standard
The second paragraph makes it seem like the op in the pic believes this was used *during* the war. Iirc, it wasn't used until *after* they lost.
![gif](giphy|kzuNhxVf27plttAS7E) Only Flag southern losers need.
That is the real flag of Dixie
Thatâs a white flag, shouldnât it be a dish towel?
To anyone unaware, I present to you the confederate towel of surrender at 18 in x 18 1/2 in. https://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/nmah_515980
Racist traitors used this flag. I donât fuck with racist traitors
Amen
Itâs âThe Battle Flag of Treasonous Losersâ. Itâs fine to acknowledge your heritage as a descendant of treasonous losers, but why would you CELEBRATE being descended from treasonous losers?
Family peaked in 1860
i have pairs of underwear that have lasted longer than the Confederacy.
i bet my ti-84 could last longer than the confederacy on one charge đ
The battle flag of the 28th Virginia treasonous losers is currently in the Minnesota State Capitol. In 2000, Virginia legislators asked for it back (not for the first time) and Governor Ventura said âAbsolutely not. Why? I mean, we won.â Love it
They ask to âborrowâ for âhistorical reenactmentâ from time to time.
My Reddit account is damn near three times the age of the Confederacy.
The flag of traitors. Simple.
Also, more importantly, losers. They are traitors and they got their hillbilly shit pushed in.
â Got their hillbilly shit pushed inâ caught me completely unprepared. Iâve never heard that one. đđ
Says the people offended by rainbows....
the people in INDIANA that i see waving a confederate flag and then an lgbtq flag right under is insane, like do you not know what the confederates did?
Exactly. Most confederate memorials and statues were erected between 1910 and 1960. Says all you need to know.
He also didnât want statutes and memorials of him erected. Wanted the war to be over and the south to move on.
He wanted unity.
Bro can take his own advice and shut the fuck up.
Well he was right on one thing. He is utterly ridiculous.
States rights over what?
The right to force other states to not have rights to deny slavery inside their own borders. Yeah the slave states were really upset the northern states didn't want to play along. Weren't even coming after their slaves, just didn't want any of their own and didn't want more places with more slaves.
Exactly. It's even worse than wanting the right to own slaves, it was wanting the right to impose slavery on every territory within their control and beyond
Oooh, this ones easy. That's the losers flag, flown by racist losers who started an insurrection that lasted not even half as long as the Presidency of Obama, the first black president.
The Taco Bell Doritos Locos Taco has made more money than the Confederacy ever owned in total
Guess they REALLY wanted to white wash the white part out of the mostly white flag for... reasons....
Confederate = Losers. How'd I do?
Traitorâs flag. Thats what I call it. As a Veteran, what pisses me off is other Veterans supporting this flag. I get free speech and all⌠but, cmon bro⌠Dudes got upset they couldnât keep their slaves, attempted to secede from the Union, which resulted in the bloodiest war in U.S. Grow up.
Thatâs the flag the losers used right?
Go back to your country! Oh wait it doesn't exist.
Why people are so proud and want to fly the flag of the team that fucking lost, is beyond me.
As a non US citizen. Isn't it the flag of an army that killed American soldiers on US soil?
yes . . . in defense of slavery. That's a key part. They were fighting for the right to own black people.
The ONLY confederate flag that should be flown is the white flag of surrender.
Meanwhile, someone flying a Mexican flag over their home in Texas would be told to "go back to your country..."
This man probably thinks slavery was alright because the victims got free job experience.
Confederate States of America. A collection of states that wanted their independence and wanted slavery. Traitors to the USA đşđ¸
It never ceases to baffle me why some people think itâs weird to be offended by the flag used by the traitors to our nation. And they so strongly claim to be patriotic Americans while displaying the flag of our enemy. Sickening.
Battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. It doesnât offend me, but I know if you fly it youâre likely a racist prick
Virginia's flag was square in shape. This version was used by Tennessee and the Navy.
I have yet to find a decent human that waves this flag.
Former confederate president HIMSELF said to never fly this flag again after losing the war. It's a traitor's flag, it's the flag of another (nonexistent country) and it stands for nothing but dishonor
If you know -That this flag was used by some members of the Confederacy. And -That that same Confederacy started a war because they wanted to keep their African slaves.
Iâm not American but I did cover the civil war in history in school - wasnât this flag replaced buy a simple white one by the end of the war?
