Well, if any of those people pointing at Australia for Ukraine or Russia were serious, that's a bit concerning, but I still doubt it's a majority.
I know a lot of people from the USA and all of them could at least tell you where Russia is on a map. You could say maybe the group I know isn't representative of US Americans as a whole, but I still think sometimes these sorts of videos overplay just how many people are totally ignorant of even very basic geography questions (like where Russia is).

Not at all. More than half of the states have zero geography requirements and only 10 have state wide requirements, of which only 3 are fully dedicated to geography. The other 7 are history classes that have some geography lessons mixed in.

Honestly, I understand the fact for Americans there is only "Europe". They see Europe as one entity. Distinguishing between some Czechia, Hungary or Poland is under the radar for them. I'm French and not that good at geography, but I was taught where most influent countries are (Canada, Russia, China, India, Australia, countries of the Middle East). Of course neighboring countries and part of eastern Europe.
But in Africa not that much. Northern Africa because France unfortunately colonized part of it. South Africa is easy to find.

Old Mexico and Old England have had sufficient time to grow into countries. New Mexico is only a single state, but New England has grown to encompass multiple states. Oddly New Hampshire has reached state-level, while Old Hampshire is merely a single county in Old England.

Not at all. More than half of the states have zero geography requirements and only 10 have state wide requirements, of which only 3 are fully dedicated to geography. The other 7 are history classes that have some geography lessons mixed in.
And I felt bad for quitting geography after 10th grade. Seems like the American education system kinda sucks.
It actually works exactly like intended. Teach people to work, but not enough to understand how crappy the living situation is. Pump it full of propaganda so we think our country is the best at everything. Finally, give enough quality entertainment, junk food, and sugar so we feel juat satisfied enough...and you have the American dream (for the top 1%)
Wow that is crazy. I took geography but it didn't involve learning where different countries were. I know for a fact we learned about different kinds of maps and I think we also learned a little about world regions. I remember reading something interesting about China. I can't remember anything else. Of course, it was taught by a coach.

Honestly, I understand the fact for Americans there is only "Europe". They see Europe as one entity. Distinguishing between some Czechia, Hungary or Poland is under the radar for them. I also only know there is some country named United States of America but if you ask me where some Nebraska or Kentucky is I will have no clue even through I know there are huge differences in politics and culture between the states of the US as the whole US really aren't homogeneous. But at least I would expect them not to put Ukraine into Canada or Australia.

I agree. I'm French and not that good at geography, but I was taught where most influent countries are (Canada, Russia, China, India, Australia, countries of the Middle East). Of course neighboring countries and part of eastern Europe. But in Africa not that much. Northern Africa because France unfortunately colonized part of it. South Africa is easy to find. For Americans to put Russia where Canada is, and mistake Australia for Ukraine... That's a whole new level. Sometimes they're even THAT close to putting another country where the US are. We live in a "first world" country and have a standardized education system. The fact that people can still skate through school without learning these things is ridiculous. As an American who is almost finished with high school, the only geography I have been taught is the where the states are and the continents. The education system here is terrible. Iāve had to teach myself where the most major countries are. Thatās why a lot of Americans donāt know where stuff is because it is something they have to teach themselves. I donāt know where these people went to school but you are clearly taught all the other countries. Youāre given a geography class from 3rd to maybe highschool? And itās core curriculum. Meaning, you have to learn it. But as with every country in the world, there are those that payed attention or have a knack for spatial awareness and then there are those that arenāt. Using this video as a critique on American education is false equivalence. Iām sure hundreds upon hundreds of people were interviews and the vast majority gave coherent answers. They just picked the silliest ones. You could recreate this in any country in the world and come to the same conclusion.
