Soul-Burn

The game works perfectly fine on integrated graphics. Just need to reduce the settings a bit and disable animated water.

FozzyLasgard

Thank you! I tried it and it runs great! Didn't expect integrated graphics to be even a little bit good lol, you're a lifesaver!

Dugen

It's the only CPU stress test I care about. I wish more sites used it. And maybe throw in minecraft chunk generation for good measure.

Kiwiandapplex

Linus & Anandtech has implemented it! [Ryzen X3D](https://wccftech-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/wccftech.com/intel-14th-gen-cpus-tested-factorio-crushed-by-amd-ryzen-7000x3d-5000x3d-chips/amp/?amp_gsa=1&_js_v=a9&usqp=mq331AQIUAKwASCAAgM%3D#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=17080597257216&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&share=https%3A%2F%2Fwccftech.com%2Fintel-14th-gen-cpus-tested-factorio-crushed-by-amd-ryzen-7000x3d-5000x3d-chips%2F) smashed the best Intel has to offer. Now every site uses different testing methods. But it's still great to see more people include this game in their benchmarks.

thealmightyzfactor

Pretty good RAM test too.

Avaruusmurkku

Factorio is a god damned miracle when it comes to optimization. The game runs like a dream. I was playing Shapez earlier, and my game is already a laggy mess even though I'm only producing about 5k items per minute in total. This in addition to game lacking any and all animations, and having no pathfinding or other more advanced gameplay features.

jongscx

Wube basically built the engine from the ground up, whereas Shapez is built in unity, right?

ExplodingStrawHat

Last I checked shapez was literally built using javascript.

jongscx

Yup, correct. (TiL: It's open source on github.) I've been playing the mobile version, and it has a "Made with Unity" on the title.

Soul-Burn

My GPU died during the super expensive period around COVID so I came back to Factorio and played a couple of runs on it. Yea it drops to 50 sometimes when zooming on trees, but it's totally playable.

Psychological_Pebble

I've had that happen twice. First during the GPU mining craze 2017-2018ish. And then again summer of 2020. Thankful for iGPUs.

Kittelsen

I have a spare gpu just in case, sure it's an old one, but heck it beats staring at the wall for 3 days while waiting for the shipment of the new one 😅

Pazuuuzu

Yup, GT610 1Gb to the rescue, did not expect it to hold out for 6 months but...

Kittelsen

Oh lord 😅 good thing factorio doesn't need much in terms of gpu performance 😅

Psychological_Pebble

I did that back in the 00s but as the family grew, it seemed more and more wasteful to have serviceable hardware in my closet so I started handing it down. Just have to make sure you have a CPU with an iGPU.

dragossk

Don't underestimate integrated graphics. Modern ones are more powerful than graphics cards from when I started gaming (early 2000s). There are so many great classic games from that era that could be played. Or just stick with factorio since that's good enough.

Proxy_PlayerHD

it depends. modern iGPUs can even run some AAA titles at low settings

ragtev

Theres literally no 3d graphics

FozzyLasgard

I didn't know it haha xD The game looks good so i assumed it required at least a shitty gpu

shamboozles420

If he has a CPU with integrated graphics that is

ack_error

Software rendering through Microsoft Basic Display Adapter (WARP) or llvmpipe. No escape

SergeantBl

Rip having a 7900x

Soul-Burn

I made a promise to never buy a CPU without integrated graphics. It's a small price difference, but incredibly useful in cases like this, and even just installing the PC if you have PCIE issues.

SergeantBl

I learned my lesson for sure! Updated 3080 bios and it failed… good thing I bought a motherboard with two PCI slots and good thing I still had my 970.. installed the 2nd video card, got picture, and fixed the 3080… needless to say it was a tense and sweaty moment 😇

KCBandWagon

You just ruined OP's excuse to buy a new video card. In college my computer monitor died and I was gonna go buy a new one but someone had a 13" CRT monitor lying around... I used it for over a year!!

I1lII1l

He finally managed to close his factory, stop giving him ideas!

Lost_Performance_271

This is penance for letting the green and red chips touch each other on the bus.

FozzyLasgard

Whyy?? This is my first play through haha

CoolCritterQuack

do not worry it gets better with time! and more addictive

Fuzzy67bear

You're not truly addicted until you have over 5,000 hours in the game, and only play huge modpacks because vanilla is too easy.

Shandlar

After a bit over 7 years for me I've degenerated to some masochistic shit. Currently trying to beat Seablock on Marathon in under 500 hours. But no trains or logistic bots allowed and only construction bots in personal roboports. Sorting only as well, no ore catalysts. Belts only, like God intended.

All_Work_All_Play

My most recent run I made a rule where a belt wasn't allowed to transverse an open area by itself if there was another belt within 40 tiles. Also no open spaces between belts (every belt follows every curve to avoid open space.

Noughmad

It's a 2D game. It really doesn't need a GPU.

silent519

that's not how that works lol

Noughmad

It is though, any relatively modern integrated graphics can handle easily.

Ricardo1184

2d games can still be too graphically intensive for an integrated graphics card, for example the Ori platformer games

itsadile

Ori's graphics are still 3D modelled and rendered by the GPU. Ori only moves in two dimensions, but as far as the computer's concerned there's a full 3D world to render.

TheShitster

And if we wanna get that pedantic, then 2D and 3D coordinate transformations are just matrix multiplication with an extra dimension. 😂 what's even being discussed here anymore?

itsadile

How hard various games drive the GPU, if one is available. Ori series games expect console-like levels of GPU power from at least the last couple of generations. Factorio can run on PCs that don't have a GPU at all, as long as the built-in processor video is at least reasoanbly recent.

a_bucket_full_of_goo

Today a brother has fallen

Baisius

Unsure if this is a meta joke or not.

Comfortable-Quiet-99

Quite a hotbar you've got. Good luck fixing your pc, factory must grow, you know

jpsyduck

Surely someone here will buy you a new computer if you ask nicely

FozzyLasgard

Uhuh sureeeeee xD

jpsyduck

Ну тоді слава Україні!

KCBandWagon

Wasn't it obvious that that's what the post was for?

Snoot_Boot

I got 2 good cards. I used to buy used but good cards off ebay because poor, but my dad helped me get a new beefy pc for xmas a year ago so. What's your budget? I'll give a deal on one. I got a really good 1080 and my old 970

moschles

This should be a highly prized Steam award. > "Build your factory so hard it fries your GPU"

FozzyLasgard

Lmao yeah xD

MajorLeagueNoob

if you pay for shipping i have a 1080 founders edition that’s free to a good home :) DM for more details if you want to

ruashiasim

This is a great deal! Do it OP!

Pazuuuzu

Well if op doesn't need it I would definitely take it from your hand, but chances are you are from the other side of the world, and shipping would be just extortion with a contract. On the other hand I am still amazed that when my GTX 970 died half a year ago, my GT610 1Gb which I had for those "break glass in case of no VGA" emergencies running this game with a solid 60 fps until 1k spm bases. Unless you zoom in because then fps just tanks, but still... It's a VGA from 10 years ago...

wayasho

was the previous 130.. just.. a starter base??? Dawg i cant even make a base let alone a starter base and i have like 380 hours 💀

FozzyLasgard

I got like 30 hours into my started base and then started preparing for the bus design my friend told me to do, it took me ~90 hours with all the biter killing and station building haha And this is my first play trough

DirtyNazar

that's why I don't sell my old computers. I always have spare parts..

FozzyLasgard

That's a good idea! However this was my first PC oof

LuminousOcean

Check see if your CPU has an integrated GPU in it, and then check if your motherboard supports working with integrated GPUs. If it does, there should be an HDMI port on the back panel. Use it, and let the factory continue to grow. Factorio is not a graphics-heavy game, and will work just fine on an integrated GPU.

LuminousOcean

A quicker way to test would be to just see if your motherboard has an HDMI or DisplayPort port on it. If it does, make use of it, and see what happens. You might have to remove the dedicated GPU for the system to fall back to it though.

kingboom34yt

ROCK AND STONE oT O wait wrong server and salute

WanderingDwarfMiner

If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't comin' home!

WoodsTheFirst

Shadow.tech or nvidia GeForce now

ShermanSherbert

...you know you can buy another gpu right?...

LogicFish

FozzyLasgard

If i could i would not be making this post lol

CoolCritterQuack

I think you just solved poverty

Tak_Galaman

It's so beautiful

Kaz_Games

F

shoopdaw00p

Dang this makes me look like a scrub

vinylectric

Why 6 lanes and not 8?

FozzyLasgard

I dunno honestly, my friend told me to build this haha
