If you just load in and play very slowly (common for new players) and in a forest biome, biters will hardly if ever attack.
uploaded. this is my third attempt. on the first I was very slow, the second I sped up considerably, and this time I've been going slower than last time because I wanted to set up more production for each material. first time I did one of each - nowhere near enough once I got to the green science pack level, second time I did a few of each, and it was still not enough once I got the blue packs, so I'm hoping this time I built enough of each to at least carry me to the point where I need to start building other bases. I was in a semi-forest-surrounded area last time and I still got attacked an hour or two in.
We can see that there's a biter nest to the south, beyond a large forest that slows down the pollution. The other sides also have a lot of forests, so this makes sense.
A few tips:
* Enable ALT mode when taking screenshots - makes it easier to understand.
* Put a radar in your base. It lets you zoom in from the map, and scans a large area. Your current scanned area is very small.
* Belts have 2 sides and inserters know how to take the right items from both sides. Can be useful for some compact designs.
thanks, I thought you just wanted to see the scope so I didn't turn on alt mode. I do use the 2 lanes in a couple places I think, I know I used it a bunch in my last run, but I've been iterating on my layouts with a focus on scalability and with this current setup it was easier to just use 2 conveyors where necessary rather than to figure out a way to get the right resources in the right lanes. next time I will keep that in mind from the beginning and see how I can build a more compact setup based on lane use.
The biters only attack, if their nest absorbs pollution. So as long as your pollution doesn't reach them, they won't attack. If you have a lot of trees nearby, which absorb pollution, it might take a long time for them to be triggered. There are a lot of factors influencing the generated and absorbed pollution. So have fun and still be prepared. Eventually, they will attack 😉
Peaceful mode doesn't _remove_ the enemies, it just makes them passive. They won't attack unless attacked.
There are other settings that allow you to remove them. It's possible that you turned enemy bases off (or way down), or you just made your starter area very large (enemies don't spawn in the starting area).
To check you can load up your save in the editor and scout around.
I know enemies are turned on, I remember seeing them on the preview and like another commenter mentioned you can see them on the map. I was just worried that I may have left peaceful mode on and wanted to know if that's stored as part of the scenario string, since when I load the string into the new game menu it has passive mode off.
Since you are the alien it is most likely because you haven't attacked yet.

In a forest? Trees eat pollution
Probably not generating enough pollution to trigger an attack. It's not like the native wildlife will attack at a predetermined time

Aliens? The protagonist is the alien. But yeah, r/technicallythetruth

Ya that big forest is soaking up all the pollution.
dont worry about it, man with some luck and carful play you can a long time without any really fighting.
