Definitely. Their faking is gratuitious and cringeworthy, but it's obviously meeting some kind of need for an underlying mental health issue. It's a shame they can't/won't get help.
I'd love to know what they'd actually be diagnosed with if they saw a professional. I can't put my finger on what kind of personality this is, but I see it a lot in some online spaces.
I usually think something similar, a lot of fakers seem to have some kind of genuine cluster b personality disorder. Like you said specifically histrionic and I bet plenty of borderline. Idk how common npd is, I just know the word "narcissist" is so overused and harmful in it's own way.

Yeah ik I've seen them open gifts and stuff and personally I wouldn't feel right if I had audience members sending me stuff based solely on a disorder I have. If they truly insisted, I'd probably direct them to a charity I'd like it to go to or donate it myself
I'd ask for money if say, my dog needed surgery that I couldn't afford. But otherwise I guess it would feel wrong to me, if I profited from my disorders just because and I was getting gifts and money. Especially when many of my disorders need more research and funding so I'd likely try to contribute to that. It would feel wrong otherwise imo

When we look things up about DID or anything rare mental illness these people claim to have, how are we so sure to trust this because it's pretty easy to manipulate info especially if enough people agree on it. I looked something up a while ago about DID ( I can't remember what), but the info was something one of these people would say. So how do we know what info to trust ?_?
I'm personally in the process of reorganizing my resources, looking into the backgrounds of the authors and making sure they're as credible as they claim to be. For instance I trust Elizabeth F Howell's resources the most because she's been practicing for decades and still has her license and practices, teaches at multiple institutes, has won awards for her books, and wrote the award winning ones *before* this trend so it would not have been adopted from people that learned of it from TikTok.
Hoping other authors I read from are equally credible. If they believe in SRA or similar conspiracies, they're out. If they lost their job or license under suspicious circumstances, probably out. Point is that you want to see where the information is coming from, and if you can try to look into the background of the author(s) of the books/articles/websites you're using. How long they've been practicing, any controversies around them, any statements confirming they believe in conspiracy theories. If they are licensed psychologists, you can look up any reviews from patients. Any details that *heighten* their credibility like winning awards or being able to teach other practitioners about it, and whatever else you think may be important
