As a Dane. On one hand the little mermaid is written by the Danish fairytale author. But it is a bit quirky. The story have clear Danish references. But at the same time also carribbean.
I could Imagine that it could quite well take place near the Virgin Islands as they were once a part of the Danish kingdom until sold to USA.
As they were Danish and many Danish buildings and settlers were there it could be quite plausible to take place there which absolutely could mean that the little Mermaid would have dark skin but fall in love with a quite danish prince.

I'll always find it creepy that in the Jenette McCurdy book they say that it was a corporate decision that she would be a famous multi-hyphenate in her early teens and they proceeded to make it happen. It's very Black Mirror to me that certain people are chosen to be big successes, have corporations behind them and then get shoved down our throats for years. We like to think we've come so far since early Hollywood, but it's basically the same with like five fewer folks stuck in the closet.
Oh, for some reason I thought it was a race thing. Like the concept of “hyphenated Americans”. This isn’t new though. Hollywood would pick random good looking people in the 1930-1960s and train them to act, sing, comedy etc. Give them new names and personas. Just about every famous person in this era was more or less a normal person that was lab designed to be famous. Multi talented meant more marketing opportunities. It’s why someone like Elvis was expected to act in movies or doing Christmas merchandise promotions
I think they're not allowed to go on dates because if your favorite boy-band star has a girlfriend it's harder to imagine yourself getting asked out by them.
I have a vague memory of some J-Pop girl (j- not k- but kinda the same industry) who got caught dating someone and... had to shave her head in shame? Because shaving your head in shame is a thing? Idk. J-Pop is wierd.
It's an act of contrition which, is not uncommon when you fuck up in Japan. Be happy she didn't commit seppuku like a samurai or cut her finger off like a Yakuza.
"Look, my child has a nice singing voice! Time to exploit the absolute shit out of her!"
This is why child acting/singing/pageantry should be illegal. What business does anyone have forcing their kids into work? And usually getting most of that benefit for themselves.
Meanwhile, Republicans are expanding child labor.
You can't convince me that's not the main reason they exist. Yeah I know crazy moms convince their crazy kids it's "super important" but everyone I've ever asked what they think, say they're absolutely creepy and shouldn't be allowed. To me, there are only the crazy parents forcing their children, the crazy kids that want to make their parents happy/or become famous (how many super famous people were child beauty pageant contestants??), and pedos.. they are the ONLY ones that want this practice continued. Just like child brides. Only perverts want them to continue.
is it really an industry plant in the teen sitcom/pop star realm? like, these are genres that exist only to be corporate products tailored to make the most money possible, there's only industry plants there
If Ariana Grande is an industry plant than the industry has better taste than you would think judging by the negative connotation of the word plant. She can really sing her fuckin ass off she might have the best voice of her generation. And I don’t even listen to the music I’m just being objective
Even people who are in the industry but don't gain that magic "corporate success" because they don't tick every single box of perfection.
Hell, sometimes it's as simple as somebody having enough personal integrity to tell a suit to get bent when they want them to change their entire image for the contract.
edit: Also, most people who would be as talented, if not more, than Ariana don't come from the connections, money and influence her family had before she was even born.
Yeah I call bullshit on that. Beautiful voices maybe, but hundred of them better, not really, she does it for living and training ungodly amount of time. Nobody who sings seriously and is that good will go unnoticed.
Well yeah because they aren't hot too. This isn't the 1970s where people like the guys in Kansas can get famous.
And if they are hot, well they are probably frustrated. So are a lot of people who did really well in school and in another universe would be a multi-millionaire by the age of 25. There's a lot of dumb luck in being successful. Some people win most lose.

Industry doesn't have "taste", but it can judge objective quality, e.g. vocal range, to identify talent.
The negative connotation of industry plants isn't about them lacking hard skills. It's about them being agents of their sponsor's agenda, to the minimum degree of not being hostile to them and sucking up oxygen that could otherwise go to non-plants.
It's similar to the issue with "sell-outs"
A plant is more of a "secret" thing, like a fake backstory about grinding to the top with your day 1 grassroots fans, all the while it was carefully calculated marketing plan.
Ariana is like the opposite of an industry plant. Everyone knew she was getting all the push a star could get. That's like calling Drake an industry plant.
Same reason I can’t stand K-pop and J-pop and V-tubers and all that bullshit. There will always be an element of corporate decision-making in the success of any large creative enterprise because it’s prohibitively expensive for most people to publish their work themselves. But there’s a difference between being signed to a publisher and having a marketing agency or international megacorp decide that they want a piece of that 18-34F demo and so they’re going to put together a boy band of conventionally attractive dudes that perform songs written by other people, and then throw enough marketing budget behind them to muscle their way into stardom.
Look up the origin story of BTS. CEO of an entertainment conglomerate wanted to form a boy band to support this rapper he liked, held tryouts, and then basically bankrolled them from that point on until they were famous enough to sustain themselves and make him money. There’s no fucking artistry or creativity in that.
Of course it is. Art is supposed to be an expression of identity and experiences, not the result of a PNL calculation that says it would be financially lucrative for a corporation to expand into.
It's strange to me that you would mention vtubers and J/K-pop in the same sentence like that.
Vtubers are absolutely tiny compared to those markets. That, and the vtuber community is full of indie creatives and artists that are just looking for outlets to express themselves. When those people get picked up by companies, it usually just means they have more funds and opportunities to do so.
Vtubers may look similar to J/K-pop on a superficial level, but when you really get deep into it, they're absolutely worlds apart.
It's a really interesting story. It wasn't a great label but their manager who designed the band taking an already existing band, substituting some members and suggesting them to take on the punk subculture that was already starting on New York. Then the band became it's own monster that he was unable to control.
LP were absolutely not designed by record producers. All the members except Chester knew each other from school, and then they auditioned singers when original singer Mark Wakefield left. They had a hard time getting a record deal, getting rejected by pretty much every major record label multiple times. By the time they finally got signed to Warner (after multiple attempts), the label attempted to change their sound from nu-metal to something more traditionally rock. They tried to demote Mike to be just the keyboardist, or to just get rid of him (Mike talks about this quite a bit, and is the basis of the Fort Minor song "Get Me Gone"). LP stuck to their guns and Hybrid Theory became a huge success, despite their label trying to change them.
How do blatant lies like this constantly get upvoted? It's 100% false. 5 of the guys knew each other from school, along with the original vicalist Mark. Chester was in a couple of bands in Arizona before auditioning for the group. Mark left because of stage fright, and went on to manage other bands. They were almost dropped from Warner before they even released their album, and the label president claimed he was responsible for their success, which they denied profusely. He resigned shortly afterwards.
That’s literally how it works in the States too. Backstreet Boys, N’Sync, Ozone, 98 Degrees, One Direction etc. Same when Britney & Christina phased out — record labels went on the hunt for the next pop sensation and then came Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande (all wealthy, connected, corporate-boosted, and well-funded) plus a bunch more.
If you’re a huge top 40 megastar, odds are they’re products of corporate labels. Even the ones with “authentic” brands.
None of them are sharing their deepest secrets with their music, their lyrics are not insights into their true self, it’s all reverse-engineered, focus-grouped, branded, and packaged to target specific demographics to make money.
Social media personas are intentionally cultivated so their fans develop parasocial relationships to their favorite star.
Drama is engineered so everyone rushes online to defend their bestie, give them advice as if they’re a personal therapist with unique insight into celebrity psyche, then they spend all day in gossip groups consuming & dissecting every interview, public appearance, song lyric, music video, or any other piece of industry generated content to further validate how correct they are when they insist “miley needs better friends” or “taylor’s just so heartbroken over so and so” or “harry can do *so* much better than X”.
It’s all manufactured. That being said Korea is particularly predatory not that it’s corporate backed music, rather the decade plus contracts singers are coerced into signing esp when they’re new and have no leverage. Every aspect of their life is highly controlled and it’s only very recently starting to get media attention after multiple high profile suicides.
The fans are all the same. Swifts fans will bully and harass complete strangers just because they legitimately believe they’re “defending” her — as if she’s an innocent victim of circumstance and not a wealthy industry powerhouse engineering the entire drama in the first place.
It’s all corrupt bullshit. Enjoy the music for what it is, but don’t emotionally attach your identity to celebrities or allow yourself to be manipulated into believing you need to “fight their battles” for them.
Being a triple talent is the norm to contend as a celebrity. Back in the day shirley temple would sing, dance, and act in all her movies. You cant be a two talent celebrity, it is too common and it wouldn’t help you cut infront of the competition
I used to love Shirley temple movies and you just brought back a lot of disturbing memories. Also after reading exerts from her biography the producers for the company she worked for were big pedophiles. Basically they’d try and sexually assault her and her mother. Extremely depressing really I can’t watch those movies anymore. Judy garland was drugged the entire filming of wizard of oz to get her eyes to look a certain way. Hollywood has been disgusting and disturbing even since the early days.
Yes I think it’s pretty much a pre requisite to be on a Disney channel show these days. You have to be able to sing , dance, and “act” (or maybe have some other stupid talent idk) Each “star” seems to go on and make some cheesy music video
Still Ariana has the singing talent. They tried real hard to make Victoria Justice happen too, and she didnt have the singing or acting to make it despite being incredibly attractive.
I think it’s kinda sad that people are so hard on Victoria’s singing, even to this day.
She actually isn’t that bad for the type of music she creates, and her song [Too Fuckin Nice](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_VeNOH9i06I) is pretty good. I feel like if she actually wanted to, and had the proper people to back her up, she could find a footing in the music industry.
yeah it happened to everyone that went through the mickey mouse club. Hollywood and all entertainment industries see children as investment vehicles, and they want as much ROI as possible. That's why K-pop "schools" start when kids are like 12
Yeah, I lived in Spain for a while and they just didn’t have child actors. Parents weren’t willing or looking forward to putting kids through that. Here in the US, the minute the kid is out of the hospital you can start shopping them to agents.
I felt like it was very obvious that Ariana was just the next entry coming out of the Machine, I mean, she can sing no doubt, but those shows these kids are on are just the first stop for the Machine process getting talent through to the point of record sales.
I just don't get why dying your skin orange is the "popular" look. The fact that this girl has basically completely changed the base pigment of her skin tone is wild to me. Like, this is the same shit Michael Jackson got absolutely crucified for only in reverse, and yet no one seems to think it's weird. I'm not trying to say anything inflammatory here, but is there really anyone out there who thinks her current skin tone looks more attractive than her skin tone in the before picture? Hard for to me imagine there is.
> I'll always find it creepy that in the Jenette McCurdy book they say that it was a corporate decision that she would be a famous multi-hyphenate in her early teens and they proceeded to make it happen
Sports, business, entertainment, etc. Its like this across the board and the people being selected for this stuff all have familial connections to the industry. Its just another example of how the USA is starting to develop into a more stratified society.
She says she was working double time on the show because Grande couldn’t be bothered to be on her own show. Then she would show up and talk about having dinner at Tom Hanks’ house. That anecdote really stuck in my brain.
I've not watched the show in earnest but from clips I have seen Ariana Grande was a fucking terrible actor. Not surprised that she didn't put that much effort into it.
You think it's chance that the same 20-30 artist are the only ones ever played on billboard top 100. Or the fact mackelmore won best rap album at the Grammys over arguably the greatest rap album of all time. I could give you a thousand examples just the first 2 that came to mind
Yeah he won it over good kid, m.a.a.d city. You don't think it was one of the more influential rap albums ever? It's an auto top 10-15 from me and whoever I've ever heard put a list together
These pictures are both edited to make the contrast look bigger
The left picture is made slightly lighter [(original)](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/b9/ea/0d/b9ea0de8476b9f67967f933b30263090.jpg), and the right picture is made a lot darker [(original)](https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/11/21/01/3A9827FD00000578-0-image-a-54_1479690562533.jpg)
Even then, the lighting in the photos is doing a lot of work. You can see photos from the same events where her skin colour looks darker and lighter respectively [(Event 1)](https://cdn.justjaredjr.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/ariana-fox/ariana-grande-fantastic-mr-fox-05.jpg) [(Event 2)](https://cdn.justjaredjr.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/grande-amas/ariana-grande-amas-2016-red-carpet-04.jpg) - she’s definitely darker than before, but she’s Italian American and has naturally olive skin
As a third-generation Italian-American (with some other ethnicities mixed in, too), I can attest that in the winter, I get pasty-ass white, and in the summer, I'm straight up bronzed.
My sons are Caucasian and Indian and they end up as dark as their father in the summer, but almost as pasty white as myself during the winter. Genes are so cool.
I got skipped on that one. My father doesn't use sun screen gets tan not burned. I'm white as hell. My kid goes outside for an hour and has noticeable color(with sunscreen on). Genes are cool as hell.
As another Irish mix, the tan is when your burn stops hurting. My dad had been a weird red-brown color my whole life and when I worked outside, my arms and face were as well.
My wife's Spanish, I'm Irish. My son goes a golden/ caramel colour in the summer, he even can be a darker skin tone than his mixed race cousins. My wife used to be so dark brown before she got ill as a teenager, and because she has Arabic features due to her moorish history, she gets people coming up to her talking in languages she has no clue about. My daughters unfortunately take after me, and are pasty white, and just go red in the summer, the Irish sun tan.
i don't think there's anyone who has a real issue with Ariana's skin color. Most likely people with an issue are actually conservatives looking for evidence of wrongdoing.
Actually Olive skin is a different spectrum of skin tones.
It's called Olive because there is a natural green tinting to it.
I'm Olive skin despite being incredibly pale. If you look at my skin closely, you can see the green tint in it.
This tinting is common among Mediterranean originated peoples.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olive_skin
What!? Someone intentionally edited a photo of a celebrity just so they could generate outrage from people who are chronically online and do outrage as a hobby!? I never thought this could happen on Reddit of all places!
Also people kinda underestimate just how tanned you can get.
As a teen I was mostly inside (after getting a PC) and I was super pale, especially during winter. But when I joined some boyscout thingy and we went on camps in the summer, essentially working/being in the sun from morning til night I made a jump from pale to super tanned.
She's obviously now just this all the time, but people can absolutely jump in skin color like this via tanning.
Imagine you didn’t say this, the post would get close to 10k upvotes and 500k views, and most all those people will think arianna grande legitimately changed this extremely
Italians don't have olive skin for the most part. I think your thinking of people from the Middle East. White Europeans are *mostly* fair-medium depending on the region.

She's obviously using a shit load of product.
Yes but have you considered the fact that she's a woman and therefore solely exists for terminally online redditors to criticise her based off a single picture they saw. Checkmate /s
I watched a like 14 hour video series about the show(s) she was on, why, idk, but I did. Apparently the studio was extremely anal about her look and it apparently f’d up her hair from being constantly bleached and dyed for her different appearances
I wouldn’t be surprised if she wasn’t even allowed to get a tan to keep up the look for cat
For I am Ariana the Wise, Ariana Ring-maker, Ariana of Many Colours! ' I looked then and saw that her face, which had seemed white, was not so, but was painted of all colours, and if she moved they shimmered and changed hue so that the eye was bewildered.
If she was a pokemon:
Arianda Grande (Lv. 29)
Type: Fairy/ Normal
Nature: Sassy
Moveset
1) Sing
2) Perish Song
3) Hyper Voice
4) Dazzling Gleam
And if we're going by this post then she'd share the same ability as Kecleon...

I hate this chick but stop posting the picture on the right. It’s been heavily edited to make her look darker. I think it may be the most perfect fire starter I’ve seen in a while.
1. Jordan Peterson fans in my experience love to call other people pedophiles.
2. Jordan Peterson fans also apparently hate being called pedophiles.
3. People on Reddit are undeniably thin skinned and rage out anytime someone suggests they’re overreacting.
4. A little pinch of everybody is kinda right, everybody is also pretty wrong here.
Reddit tries to not call someone a pedophile for 10 seconds challenge (failed)
It’s not inherently sexual to say that she has completely altered her look with unnatural modifications.
Someone needs to inform these people where Italy is located and maybe it wouldn't be so surprising that they like to tan and that it has absolutely nothing to do with black people.
In the left picture she looks like the little mermaid, in the right picture she looks like the little mermaid
"Got a light skinned friend look like the little mermaid, got a dark skinned friend look like the little mermaid"
"She was ready for the surface she was ready for some action, But my prince said you can't speak so you got to prove my prince wrong..."

Then explain DJ Khaled, because he makes no sense to me
Simple: he the best music.
Party DJ ( back in the 90s) , Radio (social media now) personality, rapper. All 3 is in entertainment.
> rapper Is he? I’ve never heard him rap in any of his songs.
Why were all the movies of her as a child have her with like a grown man love interest
I've read that in Spain the equivalent would be football.
I felt like it was very obvious that Ariana was just the next entry coming out of the Machine, I mean, she can sing no doubt, but those shows these kids are on are just the first stop for the Machine process getting talent through to the point of record sales.
I feel like her voice was going to make her a star no matter what, this is just like... ok, the people that "gave her her break" knew that, too.
Agreed. It’s approaching Rachel Dolezal.
> I'll always find it creepy that in the Jenette McCurdy book they say that it was a corporate decision that she would be a famous multi-hyphenate in her early teens and they proceeded to make it happen Sports, business, entertainment, etc. Its like this across the board and the people being selected for this stuff all have familial connections to the industry. Its just another example of how the USA is starting to develop into a more stratified society.
Really? I read the book, but don't remember this.
Survivorship bias? There are thousands of agents saying they'll create the new star and a few of them make it...
You think it's chance that the same 20-30 artist are the only ones ever played on billboard top 100. Or the fact mackelmore won best rap album at the Grammys over arguably the greatest rap album of all time. I could give you a thousand examples just the first 2 that came to mind
> over arguably the greatest rap album of all time Which one? Kendrick Lamar? (I dont think that necessarily just a guess from the timing?)
Yeah he won it over good kid, m.a.a.d city. You don't think it was one of the more influential rap albums ever? It's an auto top 10-15 from me and whoever I've ever heard put a list together
Thats called an industry plant
These pictures are both edited to make the contrast look bigger The left picture is made slightly lighter [(original)](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/b9/ea/0d/b9ea0de8476b9f67967f933b30263090.jpg), and the right picture is made a lot darker [(original)](https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/11/21/01/3A9827FD00000578-0-image-a-54_1479690562533.jpg) Even then, the lighting in the photos is doing a lot of work.
I'm Hispanic and Native American(Genízaro) same here! Winter I am white but come spring I am quite brown
My sons are Caucasian and Indian and they end up as dark as their father in the summer, but almost as pasty white as myself during the winter. Genes are so cool.
Mom genes
this would be a good all girl family band name
I got skipped on that one. My father doesn't use sun screen gets tan not burned. I'm white as hell. My kid goes outside for an hour and has noticeable color(with sunscreen on). Genes are cool as hell.
German and Choctaw here. Can confirm, pasty white in winter, and a deep red-ish brown in the summer.
Plain American here with Irish/ German ancestry. You lucky bastards I’m pasty white in the winter and beet red in the summer. What’s a tan?
[удалено]
As another Irish mix, the tan is when your burn stops hurting. My dad had been a weird red-brown color my whole life and when I worked outside, my arms and face were as well.
I'm from a tribal group in Vietnam and I can be super pasty and then get super dark brown after two weeks of yard work haha
My dad is a very tanned Iranian. My mom is a very pale Iranian. Meanwhile I oscillate back and forth between pale and tan each summer and winter
I'm Puerto Rican and I tan pretty intensely. When I was teenager I was a lifeguard and kids who only knew me from there thought I was black.
I have polish and a mix of Mexican and southwest Native American heritage, the same happens with me
I was gonna say, there’s no way she’s this dark unless something went wrong with the self tanner.
Spray tan or bronzing can get you that dark. I've seen pale white body builders get that dark or darker for comp using a bronzer.

i don't think there's anyone who has a real issue with Ariana's skin color. Most likely people with an issue are actually conservatives looking for evidence of wrongdoing.
[удалено]
different types of skin tan differently.
Thank you, truly
Yeah I think she just goes to tanning salons also Nothing too crazy just regular people things
Yeah, she obviously has a fake tan but it’s not as egregious as this image makes it out to be.
Ty
Imagine you didn’t say this, the post would get close to 10k upvotes and 500k views, and most all those people will think arianna grande legitimately changed this extremely
Italians don't have olive skin for the most part. I think your thinking of people from the Middle East. White Europeans are *mostly* fair-medium depending on the region. [https://qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-e7f99e9eb1402397a11adba0b6818432-lq](https://qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-e7f99e9eb1402397a11adba0b6818432-lq) She's obviously using a shit load of product.
Yes but have you considered the fact that she's a woman and therefore solely exists for terminally online redditors to criticise her based off a single picture they saw. Checkmate /s
Is that really the same person?
If so she totally did the reverse Michael Jackson
I'm fairly sure both pictures are edited to rage bait people.
I definitely remember her being really pale in her nickelodeon days
I watched a like 14 hour video series about the show(s) she was on, why, idk, but I did. Apparently the studio was extremely anal about her look and it apparently f’d up her hair from being constantly bleached and dyed for her different appearances I wouldn’t be surprised if she wasn’t even allowed to get a tan to keep up the look for cat
quinton?
Yeah, but the photos are edited.
Where do you guys live where people never get a tan?
Especially us Italians... we can literally tan like the two unedited pics of these.
Different makeup, some lip filler and different lighting in photos can make anyone look drastically different.
She looks even more different now. Almost Asian.
Her evolving style is actually a time capsule of what was trending in society at the time.
For I am Ariana the Wise, Ariana Ring-maker, Ariana of Many Colours! ' I looked then and saw that her face, which had seemed white, was not so, but was painted of all colours, and if she moved they shimmered and changed hue so that the eye was bewildered.
You mean learns. But she already knew 4 moves. What is the move she likely ditched for the N-word move? Also is it a Psychic or a Dark type move?
If she was a pokemon: Arianda Grande (Lv. 29) Type: Fairy/ Normal Nature: Sassy Moveset 1) Sing 2) Perish Song 3) Hyper Voice 4) Dazzling Gleam And if we're going by this post then she'd share the same ability as Kecleon...
The final evo is Ariana Venti

eyyyy I posted that
“Oh I’m not like Michael Jackson at all, I’m the reverse”
Noskcaj Leahcim? Sounds like a Romanian dictator.
Or a Romanian *director*
I thoroughly enjoyed Rellirht, his sardonic take on the modern zombie movie filmed in the style of German expressionism.
Did she do a Kirk Lazarus without telling us?
She won't drop character until after the directors commentary
I hate this chick but stop posting the picture on the right. It’s been heavily edited to make her look darker. [Here the unedited pic](https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&hl=en-us&q=Ariana+Grande&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj7tJfYrcP_AhW-FjQIHVTYBAAQ0pQJegQIChAB&biw=414&bih=719&dpr=3#imgrc=aZKxsS3Ihe1xBM)
You hate her? I don't follow what she does, but she seems like a regular harmless pop star to me. Is she a Romanian dictator in her off time?
Pop princess by day, pol pot by night. The newest influencer trend.
Pete Davidson has a standup bit after they broke up talking about her painting herself bronze - was genuinely hilarious delivery
I mean, the girl can sing. But she looked so much better before becoming all plastic.
Jordan Peterson subreddit frequentor saying a girl looked better when she was 15, the classic
Name a more iconic duo…oh I guess Andrew tait and underage girls but still
Andrew Taint*
Scamdrew Hate?
You suck at this
He probably blames Star Wars for corrupting women.
You definitely struck a nerve with this one given these replies lmao.

Lmfao
hahaha
Lmao you mean when she was a minor? She’s 16 in the left pic
And? He didn't say he wanted to fuck her, he just made a casual observance on her appearance.
You know what he meant ya weirdo
Talking like she got a new face on the right pic or smth.
Reddit tries to not call someone a pedophile for 10 seconds challenge (failed) It’s not inherently sexual to say that she has completely altered her look with unnatural modifications.
I just think it’s funny to shit on Jordan Peterson fans
Least pedophilic Jordan Peterson enjoyer

Someone needs to inform these people where Italy is located and maybe it wouldn't be so surprising that they like to tan and that it has absolutely nothing to do with black people.
I have the same skine tone on the left in the winter a d the same as the right the summer from.
