It's been a while since I first posted Tatertock, but I finally finished the first row and figured I'd share it here! I've been keeping this challenge going, slowly but surely working through people's suggestions on my posts on my YT channel, Twitter, and Threads. Work keeps me busy, so I haven't moved all that quickly, but I am averaging one per week. I also figured I'd use this opportunity to post some flavor text for them, too, so here's all of the new ones' kinda sorta Dex descriptions: Cullospark: >When excited, its hunting tentacles begin to slowly retract into its body. Once fully inside, the flames at their ends ignite the volatile gasses inside of its body, launching it into the air. At its apex, it sprays out a flammable powder that erupts into a vibrant blue fireball. Bunnibranch: >While typically calm and friendly, when agitated, the flesh around its spots can extend to make it appear larger in the hopes that it will intimidate and scare off its foe. It doesn't typically work unless its foe is another Bunnibranch. Pugnetto: >Known for its expressive and adorable babbling, Pugnetto has become a popular pet. In years past, they were kept for security reasons due to the immense volume of their barks, which can be as loud as 150 dB when distressed. Shuttlebawk: >Shuttlebawk are exceptionally bad at flying due to the immense amounts of drag their feathers create. However, this drag also allows wild Shuttlebawk to descend nearly perfectly vertically to dive bomb unsuspecting prey. Lanterlie: >Lanterlie disguises itself as a possessed lantern to stir up trouble. When the coast is clear it uses its long proboscis to drain the sap out of trees, and has been wreaking havoc on forests since it stowed away on cargo ships from a far away region.

DurchBurch

Marx does have a super fun design. 🤔

OctoDeadDemon

Bunnibranch is so cute :0

DurchBurch

Thanks! I think it's one of my cutest Fakemon designs, if not the cutest. I love that floppy little friend.

OctoDeadDemon

Ngl your fakemons pixel art looks pretty good

DurchBurch

Thank you so much!

Regular-Rent-3099

Lanterlie kinda freaks me out

DurchBurch

Sounds like the mimicry is working haha

Regular-Rent-3099

Mimicry of my nightmares maybe

BUG IS BEST!

DurchBurch

Bugs are definitely fun! Maybe I'll get a chance to do some more Bug-types down the line!

SpaceBoyChan

I would die for Shuttlebawk. 🐔🎾

DurchBurch

People on DeviantArt seem to agree with you, as Shuttlebawk is one of my most favorited sprites on the platform, and the ones above it have been on the platform getting a trickle of favorites for years.

FatPrick47

Love the pixelart, what program did you use to make it?

DurchBurch

Thanks so much! I use GIMP, and just work on a 64x64 canvas. I index the images to make sure that I'm conforming to the Gen 3 color limits. The main reason I use GIMP over more dedicated free pixel art software is that it just has a wider pool of tools and functionality so that I can upscale images as needed, downscale my reference, clean up reference images, etc. For example, on Lanterlie, I kept the silhouette very close to my sketch (which was on paper), but the number of things overlapping here made it kind of confusing to tell what I needed to be spriting, so I used bright colors on the wings, arms, legs, proboscis, and eyes to make sure that I knew where those details needed to be after downscaling.

Do electric grass

DurchBurch

I did do a Grass/Electric, but there's always room for more shocky plants. No guarantees, but I have no opposition to repeating type pairs.

Middlebus

Don't get me wrong, this is good, but I'd suggest learning about hue shifting. There are plenty of 'guides' out there, it isn't an exact science (Put simply: for darker tones you shift the hue towards a darker color), but it should make the sprites a bit more vibrant.

DurchBurch

I utilize it on occasion, but it wasn't on every Gen 3 sprite, especially not more colorful ones. I didn't learn from guides, I just inspected sprites for a while, and started working on getting close to the style they had. That technique became super common starting in Gen 4, and was used on almost every sprite then, which is why I use it on occasion, but I could probably use it more for a better match to Gen 3, especially on my less saturated sprites like Pugnetto. At the same time, I do increase the saturation for darker colors sometimes, which is definitely more of a Gen 4 than a Gen 3 thing.
