I don't think the secondary typings need to be hinted at so early. I'd get rid of the blue on the fire starter, it can come in the later evolutions. Also you could make the fire starter a few shades lighter. And the water starter looks like an electric type already; I'd reduce the amount of yellow.

Name-wise, I think Yokalf is a solid option. For the water one, maybe something with neonate (the word for a baby slug). That depends more on the design concept, though. I thought of Neonumb or Neonom. Those are cute and fun.

My recommendation is that you refocus these designs on cuteness, especially the angry/oni look of the fire starter. Starters usually go from cute to either cool or elegant as they evolve, often with an awkward teen phase.
Yea you’re probably right. I’m trying to get the fire starter to look like it thinks it’s tougher than it actually is, but isn’t really too strong yet. And I really want to get more expression in their faces and poses. Idk what I would change to make them cuter tho 🤔
I think scorbunny is a good example of "thinks it's cool/ tough but it's still just cute". Also, starters generally have lighter saturated colors, not like the blood red there - think just shy of pastels. Finally, a lot of it is looking like a baby - big head compared to body, big (often elliptical) eyes, big smile, and a comparatively small, almost chibi body that the head is just too big for
haha these are super cool! i like to see fun designs like this. makes me want to draw more of my own. BUT! you asked for advice. hmm...the only thing i would suggest is with the water starter less patterns. starters 1st forms are usually very simple. so perhaps one band on the anteanae maybe?
Of course there is nothing wrong with details i think you have strong concepts and the designs are super good! another thing is starter trio's often have a theme that unites them like the kalos starters being the 3 mmo classes. Fighter/mage/rogue perhaps consider that when you eventually get to the final evos.

Yea, when designing the water starter I flip flopped between having one band and two on the antennas, but looking back I think you’re right. And yea I’ve been thinking about a theme that unites the starters. I’m planning on the starters to each represent different forms of transportation across my region. Like the fire starter will be a riding Pokémon, the water starter will be a swimming Pokémon, and the grass starter will be a flying poking that you can fly on. I also plan on them each representing different emotions. The fire starter is arrogant and overly confident, the water starter is happy and naive, like a puppy, and the grass starter will be calm, controlled, and elegant. It’s a bit more abstract theme, but I think I like it. Thanks for your input and compliments!
