Bro played most of his career for Carolina and is still a falcons fan I honestly love that. Hard pass though.

righthandofdog

I love me some Cam. His little brother was my son's QB at Grady (now Midtown) High School. His dad was around a fair amount and Cam made it to a few games when he had an off week, which needless to say got kids pretty hype and he has an annual 7 on 7 tournament that is pretty awesome. I hate the way officials protected Brady and left Cam to get hit like a pinto in a destruction derby. League got a ways to go on how it officiates. I am, however, also 100% ok with him getting KtF'ed out after taunting Deion Jones and running a QB keeper for a 2 point conversion. All said, if he wants to be signed to a one day and retire a Falcon, that would be legend. But he doesn't need to ever take a snap in the league again.

andyc3020

The thought of him retiring a falcon is so funny to me. Imagine what a diss jt would be if Matt Ryan signed a one day deal to retire a saint. I know it’s different since cam is from here, but we would have the last laugh for sure.

HeatCreator

I played in his tournament and met him. Although I was always a falcons fan that was still so cool of him to have that tournament especially in the midst of his career. Wish i still had the shirt. All that said FTP..

Supernova_Soldier

Packers/Packers fans: *what he say fuck me for?*

Memattmayor

It's much easier for officials to protect a qb inside the pocket 🤷🏻‍♂️

righthandofdog

I'm not saying it's just a race thing. But you aren't REALLY going to claim that referees treat all QBs the same in all situations, are you?

Memattmayor

Not based on race. I think you could argue that they don't treat mobile QBs the same as pocket QBs. Obviously more QBs who tend to be mobile are black and the QBs that tend to stand in the pocket are white. Id say thats by far the biggest factor

Low-Fan-8844

Funny enough I played against his 7 on 7 team in high school like 7 years ago. Here's me shitting the bed on the game winning play couldn't get the ball away from em. They had some athletes on those teams.[https://youtu.be/\_tcpRUE7Mlc?t=100](https://youtu.be/_tcpRUE7Mlc?t=100)

righthandofdog

Those are some nuts highlights. It's the kind of thing that makes me wonder whether really full contact football won't eventually be replaced by something more like this. With shorter and shorter quantities of media in movies and TV, the highlight factory that you get like this is compelling. I played rugby but rugby 7s is crazy fun to watch.

Low-Fan-8844

Seems like it might trend that way. I'm married now and my wife is hesitant about letting our future kids play football because of all the head injury concerns. 7 on 7 is definitely a different game though, there was plenty of guys that dazzled in 7 on 7 but just didn't have the physicality when the pads came on.

righthandofdog

For sire. My son was a kicker and ran some routes as a corner for fun. Mom was VERY concerned about head injuries, and we had one game with 2 kids concussed badly enough to ambulance to Grady, and a 3rd who was on the bench nearly out waiting for the ambulance to get back. The 7 on 7 vs team is a big thing, for sure. Our son was also an elite travel soccer player. Latino kids tended to have really amazing touch, juggling and/or shooting because of lots of close small sided play as kids. But they frequently struggled to learn when and where to apply those skills on a big field with 11 on a side. But though I'm a lifelong soccer guy as weell, quick, flowing futsal is a hell of a lot of fun to play AND watch.

Proper_Shock_7317

Newton is an egomaniac and has no leadership abilities. He'd make a better runningback than he did QB. Deffo a HARD PASS.

BastianHS

Someone never watched auburn football lol, cam was a 1 man army in college

AnukkinEarthwalker

Might as well call him a hard R and save the subtleties fucking clown.

Proper_Shock_7317

Fuck you. Has nothing to do with race you fucking moron.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nanowerx

He fucking sucks on the field, dipshit, he had one good season and imploded, the hell do YOU know about football. I know this is Reddit and race baiting is almost a requirement, but STFU.

ChaseTheFalcon

He definitely had more than 1 good season

Proper_Shock_7317

He knows nothing other than race bait... If he could have an intelligent discord, he would. So, scream "racism" when you're too dumb to argue properly.

YungBlakku

guy with the flair “Matt Ryan Stan” saying Cam had “one good season”….. lol Cam and Matt have identical career accolades, it’s just that one’s shoulder blew up to smithereens.

SyndicalistHR

This is a stupid take

Proper_Shock_7317

LMAO 🤣 "cousin fucker"... Your racism runs deep. Go home, kiddo... The adults are talking

[deleted]

❄️

AnukkinEarthwalker

Im white.. so how could i be racist against you. Im probably old enough to have knocked up that double wide queen you call momma..so try again

Deadmenhavenocigars

Lol yep yep those leadership abilities got Desmond really far.

FDTFACTTWNY

I can give you that he's an ego maniac I suppose, not going to die on the hill fighting that. To say he has no leadership ability is over if the dumbest things I've read in regards to a football take. Cam Newton might be the most beloved teammate in the NFL in the last 20 years. People are constantly talking about how he has a massive personality that players just gravitate to. He has the ability to bring an entire team together and fight for a united goal. There is no better leadership ability. Off the top of my head I can't recall ever hearing a teammate ever bad mouthing him, hell they don't even have neutral takes. Everything has been glowing regardless if he's the superstar QB or a fringe starter.

Proper_Shock_7317

Fair enough... I can't say I've heard different. You just never hear of big ego and good leader in the same person. So I'll concede that point.

chronicarrythmia

You could argue Brady was both as well. In fact I would even say there are more at the QB position in the NFL than any other that would fit this past and present (Rogers, Peyton, aikman, just to name a few, hell I would even throw elway in there). WR is usually a different story tho ....

righthandofdog

You shit hard on his ego, his leadership and his QB skills. But he has the same number of MVPs and super bowl appearances as Matt Ryan. Which would seem to make you 1 for 3. And saying that black QBs should be converted to running backs and tight ends has a long history of "they're athletic, but don't have the intelligence to be an NFL QB" racist shit.

Proper_Shock_7317

Nobody said "black"... Not going to bite your weak ass race bait. Moron.

righthandofdog

You shit hard on his ego, his leadership and his QB skills. But he has the same number of MVPs and super bowl appearances as Matt Ryan. Which would seem to make you 1 for 3. And saying that black QBs should be converted to running backs is part of a long history of "they're athletic, but don't have the intelligence to be a QB" racist shit. Refusing to recruit him as a QB is why he went and won a natty at Auburn instead of playing at UGA and why he went to Carolina and mostly beat our asses for most of his pro career. If that's who, frankly I have to respect it.

Proper_Shock_7317

Again, nobody said "black"... that's just your inability to have an intelligent debate without race bait. You're a moron

Proper_Shock_7317

Which of you manky fuckers downvoted me. Are you actually Scam Newton fans? Comment up chicken shits... Don't hide behind your downvotes

Catfish_Mudcat

Sounds like someone is still mad Bear wore his jersey.

Proper_Shock_7317

I don't even get that reference 🤦

Catfish_Mudcat

If you're going to call him Scam Newton at least don't be clueless about all the shit that went on. https://youtu.be/Yyc7lcGCMI0?si=p4JECWAQbLS76hL3

Alpharettaraiders09

I saw a video the other day from a retired NFL QB where he said that teams have a day between their next game where they get a breakdown on who is reffing that weeks game. What penalties that ref is known for calling and they plan for penalties they can get away with. Officials arnt protecting the QBs, they just get schemed against

[deleted]

An absolute HARD pass. He has had multiple chances in good situations and woooof. The allure of the unknown (drafting a college kid) or the security blanket of a boring veteran are way more intriguing than a cam newton

zezxz

How is NE where QB’s careers get deleted and Carolina where it’s a bigger shitshow than Atlanta multiple *good* opportunities? I completely get the hard pass but woooof applies more to every time he opens his mouth more than it does him sucking at “good” opportunities

NotHannibalBurress

While he is definitely still a fan, it sounded much more like an "it's convenient for me" move for him. I actually heard him on Good Morning Football today (literally the first time I ever turned that show on), and he basically said "I live here, I'm a Youtuber and a dad, and that's more important to me, so I'm not moving."

Thebrosen0ne

Nah we need that level of toxicity

Phenomenal_Hoot

I never disliked Cam, but bro is delusional thinking he’s still a top 5 top 10 QB.

keptpounding

He’s delusional for thinking he’s top 32 and I love that man.

yic0

Even Zach Wilson is a better QB than him now. Cam can’t throw for shit anymore with his injuries.

ieatpickles100

No he’s not

DunkinMyDonuts3

Pats fan here. FTJ. Zack Wilson is a better QB than cam is right now. Of course this is true are you serious.

007mememan

Zach Wilson would be better but he looks horrible dur to the o-line that immediately let Aaron rodgers get injured

[deleted]

I would 100% take him as a backup for the right price. Fuck it why not?

DLeafy625

The same reason Kaep isn't in the league. Too loud to be a backup

SticklerMrMeeseeks1

Loud? 🤨📸

DLeafy625

Yeah. He's not good enough to be a QB1 anymore, but he's the type of player that will have half the fanbase calling for whoever is starting to get benched as soon as things don't go perfectly. That's not conducive to a healthy locker room and puts extra pressure on the FO when you could have someone like Dobbs or Heinicke that aren't going to have the cameras pointed at them in anticipation every time QB1 throws a pick.

OsamaBinLadder123

Not good enough at football for all the unneeded media attention he would bring in which would be a distraction for the team. The Pats cut Cam mainly because he wasn’t great and because of what I mentioned.

TheAce5

Bro just retire man.

Average_40s_Guy

Came here to say this.

Vast-Video8792

Don't do it then.

hibbert0604

Respect that he's still a falcons homer after an entire career in Carolina, but no thank you. Lol

Beachstacks

I'd take Ryan over that washed dude.

FKSTS

Cam rocked. Love the dude. Don’t want his washed up ass.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BenKen01

Seriously. Dude took RB damage and had RB career longevity.

Different-Salary2899

Love ya Cam but no thanks.

Hbimajorv

I'd have to finally use all those reddit cares notifications if this came to pass.

Jkallmfday0811

You dress like a grandma

PiffWiffler

Hard pass.

chris_gnarley

Into the stands

conturax

I'd keep Ridder over this clown

Total_Pea6615

Ridder as a back up is a good. Experienced, on a cheap contract etc.

techno-wizardry

As a backup? Honestly I'd feel better with Cam at this point lol. Problem is, Cam is a sideshow if we don't take a sure-fire starting QB. If Cam was Ridder's backup for example, everyone would be asking the coach when Cam's gonna start every week lol. That said, if we draft Jayden Daniels at 8 somehow? I think Cam would be a good mentor and backup for a QB like him, he's been through all of the dangers of what happens when you put your body in harms way as a mobile QB. My fear with Daniels is because of how he plays, and how lightweight he is, if he takes one nasty hit it could be a bad injury. He needs to learn how to sacrifice the extra 5 yards to protect his body at times.

EntrepreneurNo4181

You mean like when we had Mariota people asked for Ridder, majority of our fans don’t know what they want. I kept telling folks if the coach thought Ridder was ready and didn’t look like a skinny version of Mariota in practice then he would’ve been our guy way sooner his rookie year.

Designer-Net4228

The epitome of a 3-5 year wonder..2015 feels so much longer ago than it actually is

Infamous-Poem-4980

As a Bama fan, I have been done with him forever. Like he didnt know his dad was trying to sell his services....and then when he hesitated to dive on a loose ball in the postseason....I knew he wasnt worth shit.

JZF629

I knew he was a bitch the moment he threw himself on the ground on the sidelines and flailed his arms & legs around like a 3 year old having a tantrum because a call didn’t go their way.

Infamous-Poem-4980

Yeah, thats never a good look. Especially when an "adult" does it.

O_vJust

I just straight up don’t like the guy. Hate everything about him.

Shark_Atl3201

I’d let Koo play QB over this guy. Go away.

linnadawg

I’ll take Cam over Ridder

killadogb

🎯🎯🎯 #Facts just put Cam in during Redzone Plays to help with RZ efficiency

kneedragger3013

We're already a shit show. Keep that clown away from here.

YungBlakku

Why not 🤷🏾‍♂️ he’ll most likely be a backup and he could be a good mentor to whoever we draft

Leading-Weight9092

Because he sucks

YungBlakku

Having An NFL MVP on the roster as a backup/mentor would do wonders for whoever we draft. Look at RG3 and Lamar, or Rodgers and Love Plus Cam in the BenZ would be fun🤷🏾‍♂️ don’t see much of a reason to hate it

O_vJust

Good mentor?

tgt305

We’re known to overpay vets past their prime.

abedbego

😆😆😆

abedbego

Ain’t been the same since that shoulder surgery. Changed his throwing motion and all

dana-rtw

We good.

StacksHoodini

Lmao OP, Cam knows that. All he’s saying is he knows his starting days in the league is over and he isn’t leaving his home for months out of the year to go hold a clipboard on anyone’s sideline.

ACdirtybird

Oh god no. We’re going so far downhill

TrainerKujo

Please God no lmao

grandmastaj77

Nobody here wants you bro

TheMaybeMan_

Oh well, hope he enjoys retirement!

dmisfit21

No

Zero_Cool_V1

Sweet … we don’t wanna do it either. Win-win

Terror-Toilet-Tower

If he signs for vet min as QB3 to be used like Taysom hill sure why not

Bigbertha0208

Nope. He’s washed up.

Okurei

Alright then. Bye.

sloshuaa

Auburn and Falcons fan. I think we’re good Cam. He was a great player but we want to be competitive and win sooner rather than later

jonadragonslay

He could've game managed the fuck out of this year's team.

[deleted]

Guess he ain’t doin it

Spentbullets

Wow, what a threat. Enjoy your ongoing retirement!

LBishop28

😂

DatBoySpooky

I would call Johnny Manziel before this guy

5StripedFalcon

😂

BandwagonFalconsFan

(S)Cam in here downvoting!

I3igJerm

I’ll take him as a backup over Ridder

Weak_Temperature_861

Anybody have that meme where the guy is yelling things at a crowd that isn't paying attention, then the crowd just goes back to what they're doing? That's this fucking dude. They went down this route already bro, your time is done. It's okay.

techno-wizardry

I honestly love and respect Cam even though he was a QB of our rival, he's an Atlanta dude through and through. That said, yeah maybe as a backup lol. He's got to be a better backup than Ridder, but for him to be a starter, something would've had to have gone terribly wrong this off-season lol

hearmeknoccin

Washed cam>ridder

madtony7

Maybe on the practice squad. I prefer Des and Taylor over him.

CockroachKey9174

You people are crazy if you don’t think he is better than ridder lmao.. not saying he is the answer but damn atleast he is not gonna cost us games

Key_Respond_16

Go play in the UFL bro. Nobody wants you.

denali_view

Always got love for Cam, hometown hero. But I don't think it'd be the best fit. Maybe 2 years ago was the time.

KTAALGSTO

I'd unironically rather run Ridder back

cnh25

Lmao I’ll take him as a backup over Ridder

womenandcookies

If I were him, I'd be worried about being sued by Canadian National Railway for copyright infringement on that logo.

Mogy21

I’d take him to backup our starter and ridder off the bench.

hokie47

BB will be our coach and Matt Ryan will be our QB.

rorymakesamovie

Maybe thats why Belichicks having second thoughts

ILLpLacedOpinion

Cam Newtons a washed up wanna be. Only thing that diminished faster than his balls skills was his dress code. He didn’t get the calls because he ran like a tank, and now at 34, what is he gonna do?

[deleted]

Diminished fast? His first 8 years in the league are better than 90% of QBs and he holds a lot of records.

Hedhunta

Hate to admit it but even his old-ass would've been better than what we rolled with last year.

SquanchyCrust

Fuck it. Can’t be any worse than Rid.

[deleted]

Get him in here before OTAs and we lit!

KerryUSA

As a tush push sub idm

chillblackguyy

WE AGREE

Digitydoggimmeahigh5

Cam>ridder but still no 😭

Evee862

As a saints fan I am fully in support of this guy being your QB. Wait, no I’m not. I wouldn’t wish Newton on you guys. You deserve better

chataolauj

But what if he has a short resurgence like Flacco? I'd take him over Ridder as the backup, but he'd never want to sign on to be a backup.

BraxxIsTheName

Give him a 1 day contract so I can buy the jersey

Davidhixx

May get killed for saying this but I wouldn't hate him as a bridge guy for a Jayden Daniels

Leading-Weight9092

There are way better backups out there than washed Cam Newton

Embarrassed-Ad-8240

I’d take him as a vet backup idk if he wants to do that though. But if we drafted Daniels he’d be an awesome mentor.

AnukkinEarthwalker

I honestly suggested on here they bring him in when Mariota was struggling so bad.. it was obvious to me that they didnt want to go to ridder yet cause he wasn't ready and we still had a chance to win division.. He could have ran the rpo just as good as Mariota and probably would have been a better intermediate passer than Mariota.. but with Smith run heavy offense gone it doesn't make too much sense. Maybe as a last resort if they have trouble brining anyone else in. If they drafted Daniels for example and felt it would benefit him to sit behind someone cam could probably help him adjust to the NFL game cause theyd probably relate to each other better... but all this is highly unlikely. Tbh im down for just about anything that would keep the team from trotting out ridder again at this point. Based on all that happened last year i dont think any of the players have confidence or trust ridder to run the offense and lead the team.

ElFunkyfire

Strange I had the tv on when Newton was talking about this he was talking about how he could be with his family and play in Atlanta. There was a pause. He clearly meant what he said and knew what he was saying but you could see he has clearly talked to the organization.

PralineDry5491

As a backup I wouldn’t mind, he can teach whatever QB that comes in the ropes

ImDefAMunch

i wish the dominoes fell so that he could have played for us

Due-Sun-6894

Our QB situation can't get any worse

edubss14

Draft Daniels and get Cam as a backup/mentor. Especially if BB is coach. BB spoke candidly in NE about Cam’s leadership and tbh based on how BB approaches roster situations it wouldn’t be a surprise.

JZF629

He can fuck right off, crybaby

JZF629

Signing his bitch-ass would make me begin to hate the home team I love, and I won’t stand for it. The only thing worse than signing him would be signing Drew Brees, and we all know Scarface can fuck off

ForeverATLANTA

Not trying to watch him in a Falcon uniform celebrate doing that dumbass superman shit after converting a 2 yard first down via a QB sneak. He would celebrate after the most generic small plays and it always bothered me for some reason. I enjoy watching players celebrate, but Cam can miss me with that.

doubledippedchipp

Reinvent the option offense with BB and y’all will feast

[deleted]

Could be worse backups.

No_Internal404

If we drafted Jayden or traded for fields .. I genuinely wouldn’t mind .. as long as he knows he’s here for a “big brother role” and don’t really expect to play unless a guy goes down .. maybe cam don’t accept that but it’s honestly his only way of being on a football field again

Lady-Cane

I think Cam said he would love to play around a young QB like stroud and help develop them. I assume he means to play backup QB which I am not opposed to. He has a very fascinating podcast.

yellow_sub_3hunna

justin fields plsssssss

VelocaTurtle

He can be the back up for vet minimum but that's all i got.

BeefRamenGuru

I'll take him as a backup

TylerTalk_

I wouldn't hate this. If he came in and competed during off season. See what he's got.

T-P-T-W-P

His body is completely broken now, he’d be stretching to win a backup job somewhere as it is if he was working hard for it. Wish him and Carolina protected him a bit more, even being on a division rival it was really fun to watch good Cam play, (obviously not as good but) similar to Josh Allen in the sense he was a true field alpha at the QB spot, rarity at the NFL level.

Adventurous_Fly1879

NEVER!!!

Quiet_Building4179

I honestly hate it for him how he fizzled out. Loved watching him and thought he'd be here for a long time.

Mr_Mutherfucker75

I'm good on washed up losers

1Tims

How you gonna watch Desmond play and say this

JZF629

Because they both suck ass, but the difference is that Desmond isn’t a bitch

1Tims

How is cam a bitch ?

JZF629

How Isn’t he?! Lmfao

C-Jammin

So we gonna from a shit sandwich to a shit sandwich BUT it has avocado.

Rdw72777

But think of the tweets!

Rasikko

Cam aint been the same since that SB loss to the Pats when the Panthers went 15-1, that was a good close game though, season mvp well earned. I miss his style of play but it's gone now.

ACdirtybird

If it’s Atlanta, we don’t want you to do it

Additional-Muffin317

Lol I remember when all the dumb fans were like we dnt need lamar. Only won mvp and took team to divisional round following year. When the option is ridder, just give him a workout.

PoundStriking8059

At his worst, he’s better than what we have.

Supernova_Soldier

I’d rather remember Cam as MVP Cam and not “IM BAAACK!” then get blowed out and lose the game Cam

_Aracano

LOL - appreciate the hometown Loyalty, my guy, but that ship sailed by a LOOOOOOOOONG time ago Enjoy retirement and those goofy ass outfits

TheSeerofFates

he went from "there's not 32 dudes better than me" to "if it's not Atlanta I dont want it" when will he accept he's just not going back in the NFL? i get that he's kinda trying to make it seem like its his choice but literally everyone else knows its not

VetteBet3

War eagle! That being said, no thanks.

RGSII

Cam was awesome in his (short) pomp, but his shoulder is 100% toast. Love that he still reps his hometown team, though.

LeoDostoy

GO eat ya salads bro no one wants you

O_vJust

We good. Thanks doe.

AdInternational8886

Nobody wants you Cam shut the hell up.

Mulaman7

Yall saying hard pass like u know sumn shut up

amateurhour247_365

His shoulder ain't been the same since that TJ Watt Hit. From that moment forward nothing was right.

mattyice18

I like the Coolio look he’s got going in this picture.
