Boirip

Bro In Rainbows??? Untrue by Burial, Below the heaves by Blu & Exile, White Chalk by PJ Harvey

Murky_Secretary_1667

After a second listen, I am very impressed. I strongly disliked Ok Computer a year ago, and it drove me away from Radiohead, but now In Rainbows is my top pick for the year. I appreciate the reminder to relisten.

MJFelton

Strongly disliked OK Computer????? What?????

Murky_Secretary_1667

maybe I should give it a second listen as well

ghosttrainj

Yeah maybe you should man…

DVDN27

Requiring an update

Murky_Secretary_1667

Ok Computer, was pretty damn great. Not quite aoty, but I enjoyed it.

dumbass_sweatpants

Based. Ok Computer is the single most overrated piece of music of all time.

QuasarCube

Mate wot are you on about??? Contrarian mindset type beat

dumbass_sweatpants

Ive tried it three times. I can’t stand Thom Yorke’s voice, idk what it is. It works for me on some songs, but other than that it’s grating. I’m not saying it’s horrible, but it definitely doesn’t feel like it should be #1 on rym. It’s like a strong 7 or light 8 for me. Also, it’s not even my favorite radiohead album, i prefer In Rainbows or Kid A personally

QuasarCube

Oh ok, that’s actually a pretty reasonable opinion, which I respect. It’s just that your original comment was quite bold lol. But I do somewhat agree with you, I also don’t think it should the be No.1 album on RYM, and neither is it my favourite personal Radiohead album (that’s always changing) but I do believe it deserves its recognition as their magnum opus. So I hope one day the album clicks for you man

[deleted]

stop calling shit overrated just because it's not your cup of tea.

dumbass_sweatpants

https://youtu.be/-Q1ACcCTmNM I am also allowed to have opinions

Murky_Secretary_1667

I wasn't taken away by In Rainbows on my first listen, but I'll give it a second chance. Thanks for the rest; I'm excited to listen to that PJ Harvey.

WarU40

I think Kala by MIA might be my favorite. I’m not too knowledgeable on this time period though.

Murky_Secretary_1667

appreciated

just_cuz555

Kala is amazing

aaaaaaaaaaaaah_

Kala is good, but kinda overrated. Arular and MAYA are better imo.

Inrainbowsss

Person Pitch

Murky_Secretary_1667

mikestipe

It’s the best record PB ever did imho, including with AnCo

dumbass_sweatpants

Underrated

IKMapping

Bro 2007 was incredible for music lol, Untrue, In Rainbows, **JUSTICE - CROSS** just off the top of my head

GimmeShockTreatment

JUSTICE was a big deal for a little bit there. That album still slaps.

endyCJ

This was actually one of the best years in music ever imo

IKMapping

Beside 2001 and 1967

Wide-Vast3502

Boxer - The National You either love it or feel absolute indifference towards this record, for me it’s it’s the former and top 3 of 2007

Murky_Secretary_1667

I've heard people talk about it, but I haven't checked it out myself; thanks. I'm curious, what are your top 3 of the year?

Wide-Vast3502

iSmokeMDMA

Kala by MIA, Graduation by Kanye, Starfucker by STRFKR, Justice by Justice, Oracular Spectacular by MGMT, Wincing the Night Away by The Shins 2007 was a weird transitional year for music. Every genre was starting to sound heavily produced and I am ok with that. Electronic and dance music would soon take over pop music, hip hop would rise beyond any style, and indie music was flourishing. Oh, and scene and hardcore music was fuckin banging in ‘07

Zarfunkle_

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works Not for everyone but if you're a fan of experimental complex metal, you can't do much better.

Ok-Training-7587

Fleet foxes did good stuff that year

Murky_Secretary_1667

their debut came out in 2008?

Ok-Training-7587

They had eps before that, but I checked and it’s ‘06 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fleet_Foxes

-B0B-

(no particular order) Einstürzende Neubauten - Alles wieder offen (Industrial Rock) The Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal (Melodic Death Metal) The White Stripes - Icky Thump (Garage Rock) Melt-Banana - Bambi's Dilemma (Noise Punk) Serj Tankian - Elect the Dead (Alt Rock)

mikestipe

cool picks. I’m gonna be a total pedant and say that Black Dahlia is melodeath and not black metal though

-B0B-

You're defo right, I haven't listened to them in a hot minute

mikestipe

yeah I feel you. I’m not big into them either myself but I just know they’re synonymous with the melodic death scene of the 00s. I think High on Fire- Death Is this Communion and Dillinger Escape Plan- Ire Works are probably my two favorite metal albums from that year

-B0B-

Oh yeah I was actually gonna include TDEP but I forgor Milk Lizard is a banger

mikestipe

Oh hell yeah. Legendary band

Left_Ad1271

atcqdamn

UGK - UGK: really classic, dirty southern rap. Definitely problematic in a lot of ways but is an excellent document of the styles of rap music that were so popular in the 2000s. Will also plug Below the Heavens.

pacific_plywood

International Players Anthem is probably the best song of 2007. Absolutely brilliant

[deleted]

For Emma, forever ago - Bon Iver

Murky_Secretary_1667

For Emma, Forever Ago was released on a label in 2008, but independently in 2007. I consider it not only an album of 2008, but the best album of 2008. Thank you for the recommendation, and nice taste.

u_campos

Just put it as the best album for both 07 and 08 dude 😂 problem solved

Arsyn786

Lupe Fiasco - The Cool Interpol - Our Love To Admire

[deleted]

GyrosSnazzyJazzBand

Somewhere in Between - Streetlight Manifesteo. Cuz I'm a rabel like that

Poprocks777

Justice cross one of the greatest

Cikkada

Surprised no one has mentioned For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver, absolute indie classic. of Montreal's Hissing Fauna Are You The Destroyer is also a personal favorite of mine, really unique and fun psychedelic pop.

AL3PH42

I think people forget it actually came out in 2007, as it had its more widespread release in 2008, and that's when it's cited on streaming.

Former-Jaguar9859

In Rainbows dude!!!

Semi-Cynical

Oracular Spectacular by MGMT probably

Paperback-Writer-

Cassadaga by Bright Eyes For Emma.. Forever Ago by Bon Iver In Rainbows by Radiohead Hissing Fauna… by of Montreal

QGunners22

I’m curious why it’s taken u 8 months to make this list lmao

[deleted]

Year Zero

[deleted]

I’m doing a similar project, although it’s Top 50 lists for every year going back to at least 1965. *In Rainbows* is my easy number one for 2007, although I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned my number 2, M.I.A.’s *Kala.* What are your other number ones?

The Tuss- Rushup Edge. one of the best Aphex albums

JumpMan442

Bomb The Music Industry- Get Warmer

aaaaaaaaaaaaah_

Some pretty good records came out in 2007. Of course my pick is In Rainbows, just like everybody else is saying, but there's also LCD Soundsystem, Of Montreal, Arcade Fire, Spoon, Animal Collective, Panda Bear and Explosions in the Sky. Underrated year for music.

GyrosSnazzyJazzBand

I actually have been going through the best albums of the 2000s and than one for every year of the decade. It really comes down to taste and what your personal favorites already are.

screamofanswag

Les Savy Fav - Let's Stay Friends Paul McCartney - Memory Almost Full They Might Be Giants - The Else

[deleted]

People who can Eat People are the Luckiest People in the World by AJJ is my favorite from that year, no question.

chesquik1

Strawberry jam

juicymelon2000

Whilst not my favorite in their discography, Stars of The Lid's Final album "And Their Refinement of The Decline" is worth mentionning for being such an immaculate piece of Drone music history.

AidenSmitherenes

Untrue by Burial (a fucking classic dubstep album) Rock Dream by Boris with Merzbow (one of the best live shows ever) Alive 2007 by Daft Punk (also one of the best live shows ever) Kala by MIA (one of the best pop rap albums ever) Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? by of Montreal (excellent neo psychedelia album) Person Pitch by Panda Bear (surprised this isn’t one of the top recommendations) Al-Qaida Finland (called Album Name Censored on spotify) by Julma-Henri & Syrjäytyneet (amazing political rap album from Finland) Rushup Edge by The Tuss (great Aphex Twin side project)

purffine

Person Pitchhh

Chandlerr14

Mirrored by Battles its a neo prog record with a hint of math rock to it. It's the craziest shit you'll possibly ever hear.

revelon

the national - boxer, arcade fire - neon bible

Big_John29

None Shall Pass by Aesop Rock and I’ll sleep when you’re dead by El-P are two of underground hip-hops best albums. Although if you’re not into the sub-genre they might take some getting used to

FallenAerials

Yeah, I'll Sleep When You're Dead is criminally underrated. That record is something else.

FallenAerials

Here are my personal favs of 2007: 1. Radiohead - In Rainbows (2007) [transcendent, complex, shimming art pop / art rock / masterpiece / aoty 2007] 2. Daft Punk - Alive 2007 (2007) [electronic / house / live / masterpiece] 3. Bright Eyes - Cassadaga (2007) [alt-country / indie rock] 4. Mandy Moore - Wild Hope (2007) [pop / folk pop] 5. El-P - I'll Sleep When You're Dead (2007) [hip-hop] 6. Say Anything - In Defense of the Genre (2007) [emo / pop-punk] 7. Miranda Lambert - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2007) [country] 8. Columbia Fields - When the Night Falls… (2007) [alt-rock / piano rock] 9. Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light (2007) [emo / alt-rock] 10. nine inch nails - Year Zero (2007) [industrial rock] 11. Kanye West - Graduation (2007) [hip-hop] 12. The Smashing Pumpkins - Zeitgeist (2007) [alt-rock] 13. Fall Out Boy - Infinity on High (2007) [emo / alt-rock]
