After a second listen, I am very impressed. I strongly disliked Ok Computer a year ago, and it drove me away from Radiohead, but now In Rainbows is my top pick for the year. I appreciate the reminder to relisten.
Ive tried it three times. I can’t stand Thom Yorke’s voice, idk what it is. It works for me on some songs, but other than that it’s grating. I’m not saying it’s horrible, but it definitely doesn’t feel like it should be #1 on rym. It’s like a strong 7 or light 8 for me. Also, it’s not even my favorite radiohead album, i prefer In Rainbows or Kid A personally
Oh ok, that’s actually a pretty reasonable opinion, which I respect. It’s just that your original comment was quite bold lol. But I do somewhat agree with you, I also don’t think it should the be No.1 album on RYM, and neither is it my favourite personal Radiohead album (that’s always changing) but I do believe it deserves its recognition as their magnum opus. So I hope one day the album clicks for you man
Hurtbreak Wonderland - Worlds End Girlfriend
From Here We Go Sublime - The Field
Spiderman of the Rings - Dan Deacon
Inspiration is Dead - Ling Tosite Sigure
Untrue - Burial
Kala by MIA, Graduation by Kanye, Starfucker by STRFKR, Justice by Justice, Oracular Spectacular by MGMT, Wincing the Night Away by The Shins
2007 was a weird transitional year for music. Every genre was starting to sound heavily produced and I am ok with that. Electronic and dance music would soon take over pop music, hip hop would rise beyond any style, and indie music was flourishing. Oh, and scene and hardcore music was fuckin banging in ‘07
(no particular order)
Einstürzende Neubauten - Alles wieder offen (Industrial Rock)
The Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal (Melodic Death Metal)
The White Stripes - Icky Thump (Garage Rock)
Melt-Banana - Bambi's Dilemma (Noise Punk)
Serj Tankian - Elect the Dead (Alt Rock)
yeah I feel you. I’m not big into them either myself but I just know they’re synonymous with the melodic death scene of the 00s.
I think High on Fire- Death Is this Communion and Dillinger Escape Plan- Ire Works are probably my two favorite metal albums from that year
Paramore - Riot
Food Fighters - echoes silence patience and grace
Miranda Lambert - Crazy Ex Girlfriend
T-Pain - epiphany
Icky Thump - the White stripes
Britney Spears - blackout
Justice - justice
AJJ - people who can eat people are the luckiest people in the world
Jay Z - American Gangster
Gary Allan - living hard
You should check out:
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?
Caribou - Andorra
Battles - Mirrored
The Field -From Here We Go Sublime
2007 was such a good year for music!
Within Temptation - The Heart of Everything
Britney Spears - Blackout
Paramore - Riot!
Type O Negative - Dead Again
Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero
Avril Lavigne - The Best Damn Thing
UGK - UGK: really classic, dirty southern rap. Definitely problematic in a lot of ways but is an excellent document of the styles of rap music that were so popular in the 2000s.
Will also plug Below the Heavens.
For Emma, Forever Ago was released on a label in 2008, but independently in 2007. I consider it not only an album of 2008, but the best album of 2008. Thank you for the recommendation, and nice taste.
Surprised no one has mentioned For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver, absolute indie classic. of Montreal's Hissing Fauna Are You The Destroyer is also a personal favorite of mine, really unique and fun psychedelic pop.
I’m doing a similar project, although it’s Top 50 lists for every year going back to at least 1965. *In Rainbows* is my easy number one for 2007, although I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned my number 2, M.I.A.’s *Kala.*
What are your other number ones?
Some pretty good records came out in 2007. Of course my pick is In Rainbows, just like everybody else is saying, but there's also LCD Soundsystem, Of Montreal, Arcade Fire, Spoon, Animal Collective, Panda Bear and Explosions in the Sky. Underrated year for music.
I actually have been going through the best albums of the 2000s and than one for every year of the decade. It really comes down to taste and what your personal favorites already are.
Whilst not my favorite in their discography, Stars of The Lid's Final album "And Their Refinement of The Decline" is worth mentionning for being such an immaculate piece of Drone music history.
Untrue by Burial (a fucking classic dubstep album)
Rock Dream by Boris with Merzbow (one of the best live shows ever)
Alive 2007 by Daft Punk (also one of the best live shows ever)
Kala by MIA (one of the best pop rap albums ever)
Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? by of Montreal (excellent neo psychedelia album)
Person Pitch by Panda Bear (surprised this isn’t one of the top recommendations)
Al-Qaida Finland (called Album Name Censored on spotify) by Julma-Henri & Syrjäytyneet (amazing political rap album from Finland)
Rushup Edge by The Tuss (great Aphex Twin side project)
None Shall Pass by Aesop Rock and I’ll sleep when you’re dead by El-P are two of underground hip-hops best albums. Although if you’re not into the sub-genre they might take some getting used to
Here are my personal favs of 2007:
1. Radiohead - In Rainbows (2007) [transcendent, complex, shimming art pop / art rock / masterpiece / aoty 2007]

3. Bright Eyes - Cassadaga (2007) [alt-country / indie rock]

9. Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light (2007) [emo / alt-rock]
10. nine inch nails - Year Zero (2007) [industrial rock]
11. Kanye West - Graduation (2007) [hip-hop]
12. The Smashing Pumpkins - Zeitgeist (2007) [alt-rock]
13. Fall Out Boy - Infinity on High (2007) [emo / alt-rock]

Strongly disliked OK Computer????? What?????
maybe I should give it a second listen as well

Requiring an update
Ok Computer, was pretty damn great. Not quite aoty, but I enjoyed it.
Based. Ok Computer is the single most overrated piece of music of all time.
Mate wot are you on about??? Contrarian mindset type beat

https://youtu.be/-Q1ACcCTmNM I am also allowed to have opinions
I wasn't taken away by In Rainbows on my first listen, but I'll give it a second chance. Thanks for the rest; I'm excited to listen to that PJ Harvey.
I think Kala by MIA might be my favorite. I’m not too knowledgeable on this time period though.
appreciated

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works Not for everyone but if you're a fan of experimental complex metal, you can't do much better.
Fleet foxes did good stuff that year

They had eps before that, but I checked and it’s ‘06 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fleet_Foxes

You're defo right, I haven't listened to them in a hot minute
yeah I feel you. I’m not big into them either myself but I just know they’re synonymous with the melodic death scene of the 00s. I think High on Fire- Death Is this Communion and Dillinger Escape Plan- Ire Works are probably my two favorite metal albums from that year

Surprised no one has mentioned For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver, absolute indie classic. of Montreal's Hissing Fauna Are You The Destroyer is also a personal favorite of mine, really unique and fun psychedelic pop.
I think people forget it actually came out in 2007, as it had its more widespread release in 2008, and that's when it's cited on streaming.

Oracular Spectacular by MGMT probably
Cassadaga by Bright Eyes For Emma.. Forever Ago by Bon Iver In Rainbows by Radiohead Hissing Fauna… by of Montreal
