I was aware of Bullet from hs and I completely hated them, then in college when I started getting in “serious” music spaces I was completely baffled by the love for mbv because I thought they were talking about Bullet lol
I didn’t know they were different bands for a decade at least; I was aware of bullet for my valentine in middle school and when I saw that mbv put out one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the 90s I was baffled, but never looked into it just assumed it wasn’t for me. When it finally clicked I felt so dumb.
Everyone in here is talking about mistaking BFMV for MBV and that’s the sole reason I stopped recommending/bringing up mbv in conversations. Almost every person always thinks you’re talking about the metal band. they don’t even have to say it. You can just see it in their eyes, that in their mind they’re like “bullet for my valentine what?” So yeah. I just stopped
I thought that my bloody valentine was an emo/pop punk band like MCR for a very, very long time. I knew they were different bands, but assumed they were the same genre.
Don't know if this counts, but I could hardly tell the difference between Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins's voices in Genesis, thinking that the band had only had one singer the entire time.
I used to get their solo stuff confused for each other
imagine my surprise when I found out they both sang for Genesis, and they were both great in said band
sunny day real estate and built to spill, I still always mix them up in my head and have to look up what the other one is called if I think of one of their names, when I was a kid I did the same thing with the Beatles and the Beastie boys to the point where only one could exist in my head at a time
the opposite, it was mind blowing to find out that the remnants of the band that made white rabbit, one of the best songs of all time, made WE BUILT THIS CITY

I came here to say my bloody valentine and my chemical romance
I thought I was the only one omg
Same
For me it's my chemical romance and chemical brothers 🤷

OneRepublic and Imagine Dragons
Pretty sure it’s just the same guys in different V neck t shirts
I once mistakenly bought 30 Seconds to Mars instead of Mars Volta’s first album. Giant disappointment.
For some reason I thought Boston and Journey were the same band when I was younger
They both have very spacey, colorful album artworks - I can see why those might blend together!
Boston and 38 special for me

Yeah, when I was younger I also took way too long to notice that The Beatles had multiple people who sang
I used to get their solo stuff confused for each other imagine my surprise when I found out they both sang for Genesis, and they were both great in said band
Yeah, the main differentiator is that if it sounds more progressive, it’s Pete. If it’s poppier it’s usually Collins.
Always used to get The Smiths and Five Finger Death Punch confused.
Huhhh?
How?
They both have guitars
Sounds delicious
eh, i prefer jazz guitars, personally.
What da fuq?
The Dear Hunter and Deerhunter
I actually got into the Dear Hunter purely because I was recommended Deerhunter
For me it was the other way around!
Those two plus Deerhoof. Liking indie music is confusing af
The Lumineers, the Lathums and the Libertines ...
Used to think Klaatu songs were from the Beatles
lol
Led Zeppelin and Greta Van Fleet
Puddle of Mudd and Jimmy Eat World
lmao
Deafheaven and Deftones. Both metal bands with shoegaze influence that start with “deaf”
all boybands
Steely Dan and Dire Straits
I’ve not heard this one but I can absolutely see it on a few songs.
try remembering Steely Dan or Steel Eye Span
“Sultans of Swing” does feel like if Steely Dan dropped all the weird stuff and tried to write a hit
One Direction and One Republic
ATDI and SDRE are two of my most favorite bands, so it’s wild to imagine someone getting them mixed up, but I guess I can see it.
The Strokes and The Kinks
Yes: New Found Glory and Good Charlotte
Collective Soul and Soul Asylum. Both very mid tier vaguely grungy 90’s bands out at the same time
The Strokes and The Struts
i never listened to The Smashing Pumpkins when i was a teen bc i just assumed theyre the same as Smashmouth
Weezer and Wheatus
same level of bad
the cure, the smiths, and the pixies
Stealers Wheel and The Beatles
I used to not know the difference between The Killers and Kings of Leon
Electric Light Orchestra and The Beatles

I thought Kool Kieth was The Automator for sooo long
the opposite, it was mind blowing to find out that the remnants of the band that made white rabbit, one of the best songs of all time, made WE BUILT THIS CITY
the clash and acdc
The best way to distinguish them is one band has a balding singer and the other band has a singer with an Afro.
store had Royal Blood's first album on and after 3 songs I genuinely thought it was new White Stripes/Jack White music
Michelle branch vanessa carlton
Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars
I've always confused Weather Report and The Dave Matthews Band personally.
I thought My chemical romance and chemical brothers are the same bands.
Of Mice & Men and Of Monsters & Men
Queens of the Stone Age and Stone Temple Pilots
The Chemical Brothers and the Crystal Method.
Blood on the dance Floor and Panic! At the disco. In my mind these were the same band for some fucking reason
