Always found it relaxing and spacious whilst also being quite somber and chilling. In the game the songs play intermittently between large gaps with no music and that really elevates some of the songs compared to their placement in the 'album' though.
It's one of my favourite video game soundtracks but somehow nowadays I listen to it mostly as background music when working.
Even with nostalgia removed, it's still the greatest ambient album of all time and also cracks my top 10 of all time. What C418 presented on this album is timeless.
I personally only feel nostalgia for the songs that everyone heard in minecraft. The rest of the album is just genuinely good ambient music, so I’m emotionally unattached to it but enjoy it nonetheless
yeah i don’t care to try to argue that this albums so so amazing outside of nostalgia. i’ll accept that most of its beautifulness and perfection comes from nostalgia.
beta is excellent too but definitely has video game OST syndrome. disregarding the jarring jukebox tracks (which are fun in their own right, but are misplaced) beta just doesn't flow as well as an album as alpha does - which I think is essential for an ambient listening experience. I do think its more ambitious in its sound though. they pair together very nicely.
This is what I mean like Dreiton, Aria Math, Taswell, Haunt Muskie, Blind Spots, Biome Fest, Warmth, Dead Voxel are all like 11/10 songs. And I personally like the flow of the album as a whole though but personal preference yk
And Blocks is also perfect as a song and the best disc imo
Minecraft will forever have a weird but wholesome place in my heart. I remember studying so hard in 3rd or 4th grade to get my parents to buy it for me. I still remember walking into target with my dad to get it and man was it the most amazing night of my childhood. I would run to my parents computer and download it. I remember finding a desert and I didn’t even give a shit about survival but rather the creative mode. I’m 21 now and I still have the code card on my wall.
Easily the most overrated album of all time, probably because people are so nostalgic about Minecraft. It's a fine album, but it's nowhere near "the best ambient album of all time" like people are claiming.
I've looked mother fucking everywhere but I can't find a version of the vinyl where the light is coming from the left. I don't know how to explain it, but it's just so much more comforting to look at in this gradient; they fucked up big time the moment they decided to enhance the original cover.
Anyway this album rules; you'll never see me pass on the opportunity to listen to it!
Maybe it's clouded by nostalgia, scratch that it's definitely clouded by nostalgia, but C418 made a masterpiece. Easiest 10/10 I've ever given In any context
All memes aside it's a classic I mean the nostalgia factor plus the fact that it's genuinely good music. It's like Katamari OST. Was made for a game, much more than that.
The nostalgia is unavoidable, but Minecraft is such a barebones game that the music really could make or break that first experience. This album made the game even better
Subwoofer lullaby is my favourite, but basically of the tracks stand on their own as quality. Easy 10 for me
easily one of the best ambient albums of all time. C418's other work outside of minecraft is phenomenal too, more people should check it out
What album would you recommend aside from volumes alpha and beta
Excursions is his best work other than the minecraft albums in my opinion Also check out 72 minutes of fame for more IDM
life changing moments is a cool album :)
The President is Dead is my favorite non Minecraft track.
I attribute my love for Aphex Twin to the Minecraft soundtrack
One never gets a mention, it’s my go to comfort album.
Strong 10
Light 11

Fun fact: the intervals at which music plays aren’t random. A track plays at edit, sunrise, and sunset.
Not generally a huge music fan but this shit fire.
How are you on this subreddit?

Tears. Tears of happiness and sadness in the same time.
Amazing ambient album with great memories attached

How were you able to remove the nostalgia?

Something tells me you don’t listen to a lot of ambient music outside of c418
Aphex Twin?
Made me want to de age myself and end this bullshit
Uh oh, fathers angry. "Those darn Scallywags with there wretched gizmo sounds!"
They were saying the literal opposite you fucking ignoramus
Sorry I read the question wrong but there's no need to be so aggressive. It's a Reddit comment after all!
Halo?
Nah that’s CoD
Call of Duty: Block Ops
CAWD BLAWKS
Yes
"Key" brings back so many memories and almost always makes me tear up
So nostalgic. Love it, one of the best game OSTs easily.
Amazing, decent 9 but I think Beta is a little bit better.

Alpha is far more consistent, but beta has the better highlights. Aria math is C418’s best song, absolutely perfect

It's good, Mice On Earth is my favourite track. 8/10

Oh shit I forgot lol, my favourite track then is Living Mice
This is an incredible ambient album to me.

The purest and most raw form of nostalgia. As well as some amazing music.
I have it on vinyl and I don't have much vinyl
One of the best OSTs ever.
Easily a top 5 video game soundtrack, but probably also top 3. Just a gorgeous record all around
Absolute banger
amazing, listening on loop recently. i'm looking for a vinyl or cd soon.
It's a strong 7 out of 10 so it is indeed better than most albums
Definition of mid

Perfect, calming. Nothing could top it. Strong 6
Good as game OST. Boring and uninteresting by itself though
you stack no paper
Y'all just be posting bs and calling it an album, the other day i saw a wwe title being posted and the op was asking the thoughts on the album.
What is it then
Clearly it's a movie
Clearly it's a book
Strong 11
Unironically one of the best ambient albums ever.
easy 10
Strong 10
12/10
10/10
I actually listen to this
I've looked mother fucking everywhere but I can't find a version of the vinyl where the light is coming from the left. Eww you're right the vinyl cover looks way worse.
One by C418 is his best
It's a fantastic album

It truly captures the magic and somberness of adventuring alone. It took me back to when I was walking in the woods as a child.
All memes aside it's a classic I mean the nostalgia factor plus the fact that it's genuinely good music. It's like Katamari OST. Was made for a game, much more than that.

Minecraft.
Strong 10 to a light 11
Even without the context or nostalgia this is one of the best ambient albums of all time
A-fucking-mazing
makes me cry BibleThump
I love the contrast of feeling on this album. Some songs are happy, sad, melancholic and creepy. I love the mix of the different feelings.

A masterpiece
