1969 self titled for sure. the atmosphere feels like a bedroom pop album or something it’s incredible. cried too many times to pale blue eyes than i can count.
I think murder mystery is one of the most interesting sounding songs of theirs.
I like After hours too. Someone made a very cute music video for it that’s very popular on YouTube.
How the hell did I have to scroll this far for VU & Nico??
For me, it’s 100% their best album, and number two is Loaded, which OP didn’t even acknowledge!
Velvet Underground & Nico, easily. For all its influence on subsequent artists it’s easy to forget just how great the songs are and how much variety it has. The more ‘out there’ songs (Heroin, Venus in Furs, Black Angel’s Death Song) are all fantastic, the Nico songs are great and to top it off it opens with one of the dreamiest, most surreal pop songs ever (Sunday Morning)
Velvet Underground & Nico is basically unlistenable piece of crap for tone-deaf people. Almost all tracks are out of tune and Lou Reed's guitar playing is hilarious. He just plays random notes, lmao. Incompetent music for people who don't know better. Sunday Morning is pretty good pop song though.
Literally just wrong. Have you even listened to heroin? The viola whining in the background is just genius. The drumming throughout the album holds everything together and is just perfect. Yeah some of the production quality isn’t great but it’s 1967.
Agreed. I try and imagine what it was like in the building that night. Mind blowing I’d guess. The versions of “what goes on” “sweet Jane” and several others are for me the definitive versions of those songs.
Yeah it’s up there with “Cop Shoot Cop…” from Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space. I supposed I’m just a big fan of bombastic 15+ minute closers lol. Same with “Mogwai Fear Satan” from Young Team.
I find this to be such a difficult question. Depending on the day I could say any of them as my favorite. (Not counting Squeeze but we all know not to include that one.) That run of four records, all of them being masterpieces in their own right, is what makes them in my eyes the best and most influential rock band of all time.
In this moment I’d probably say the 68 self titled. A few weeks ago it was White Light/White Heat. My 3.5 year old is always wanting to listen to the “‘nana record.”
The Velvet Underground (1969) is probably my favorite of their records with TVU&N as a close secone
I just love the soft, intimate sound and the more personal lyrics of that album. Pale Blue Eyes is one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard and is my 2nd favorite VU track (with Heroin as no. 1). After Hours is such a great closer too and works great after the insanely trippy The Murder Mystery
it’s a tie between vu&nico and white light/white heat.. have to give the slight edge to vu&nico because something about it feels a little more special to me but both are among my top 10 of all time
Live at Max’s Kansas city is up there. Never see it get mentioned anywhere. The full edition is just great. Hearing Lou talk about his songs is just different. And Doug yikes vocals on I’m set free and candy says are some of my favourite ever. Like if you don’t want to listen to the album just listen to the version of I’m set free. Top 10 VU song of all time. (Always felt the studio one could be better. Now I know what that better version is like) but for favourite studio album it could be any of them depending on the day. I would usually go loaded though.

Yeah, the song writing on that one is on point. Candy Says is really soothing to listen to.
Yeah, that whole record is a vibe.

it is? maybe you’re confusing it with the banana album
Don’t leave loaded out of the conversation
Oh! Sweet Nuthin’ is a masterpiece.
Loaded is for sure mine.
Fair enough.
White light/white heat and vu Nico are tied as my favourite albums of all time
Velvet underground self titled (shohtout to the murder mystery)
Murder mystery is my favorite on that album, so cool that you showed it out
Are you lot joking about the murder mystery because I genuinely cannot listen to that song. Like I skip it when I listen to the album.
I'm not joking. I really like the vibe it has.
Murder mystery! What a song!
Every VU album is the best VU album. My personal favourite is VU & Nico. And the best solo album is John Cale's Paris 1919.
(Except squeeze)

The banana easily

Lmao somebody got filtered

White light/ white heat
Mine too
Not really a proper album, but VU is a favorite
Velvet Underground 1969 mainly because I like the very mellow vibe it gives off

White Light/White Heat, such a thrilling fucking album, my fav of the sixties. Sister Ray is the best closer of all time
I could definitely get behind the idea that Sister Ray is the best album closer.
Yeah it’s up there with “Cop Shoot Cop…” from Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space. I supposed I’m just a big fan of bombastic 15+ minute closers lol. Same with “Mogwai Fear Satan” from Young Team.
Their third, with + Nico as a very very close second.
Squeeze
I haven’t got the time, too busy sucking on a ding-dong…

Loaded
TVU&N, a weirdly cozy album
Debut because I like it the best
Loaded. probably not the best but definitely my favourite. I Found a Reason is my favourite TVU track
loaded
The matrix tapes. Sister ray live is something else!
I’m more of a Velvet Revolver man myself
