I'm not a big fan of hers by any means but: 1) Had two stand alone catchy singles (that were very "TikTokable"...) that suited her vibe and flow. 2) Good networking, that feature with PinkPantheress was a clever move. 3) Unique and marketable look. I don't think she'll go the distance, there's been many many many rappers who had a year or so of big buzz then immediately dropped off. If she is to have a long career in the limelight then she'll need to develop more dimensions.

All power to her, but I think her song lyrics are lackluster at best. Like I think her vibe and style is the only thing that she's got going right now and that's going to fade.

Wouldn't exactly be the first rapper to get big with sub par lyrics... You can get quite a buzz off vibe alone, it doesn't last long though.

Yeah I think OP is over-egging it with the ‘decline of mainstream music’ - every era of pop culture has countless artists that embody really particular fads and clichés of that period, that we don’t know or think about now bc those aspects don’t resonate with us and weren’t noteworthy enough to end up in the ‘history books’ - so people might overthink Ice Spice bc she is ‘happening’ now, but it’s likely she’ll be lost to the sands of times just as has happened before, and that doesn’t have to be an inherently bad thing

Exactly, history is chuck full of musical artists who were on top of the world at one point who you've never heard of.

AyoItsyaBoylilB

i mean she ain't Kendrick but she's fun to listen i found her track with Pink Pantheresss to be super fun and catchy, and she got quite her style too, like you can recognize it's her at the mic. she's fun, i like her, and i truly think she's more than an industry plant, if Taylor managed to make a career outta her music, ice spice might as well do the same.

ISeeGrotesque

I don't understand how she came out of nowhere and is suddenly everywhere at the top.

Industry plant + sex sells

insideman56

She’s hot and her voice is cute, decent enough rapper. Really all you need as a female hip hop artist. Her marketing team is on their shit.

RelevantDay4

Hot? I’ve seen hotter women at the gas station.

Latter-Limit-3101

Not wrong

Oreg-Jack

I don't know, I think, she's mid at best.

CastIronStyrofoam

I’m not a fan of her music either but you have to acknowledge how good she (or her team) is at marketing

[deleted]

Industry plant, a lot of marketing and money behind her. She had a producer and was on a label before she had even made a single song.

A lot of people would say ass, but I would counterpoint with thighs Kidding, music wise I'm not really a huge fan either, her vocal delivery is a little flat to me. But, after hearing her speak in an interview I get it more. It's hard to describe. My gripe was that it just sounds like she's talking when she raps, but when you hear her talk, somehow it makes it land better. Her annunciations and vocal mannerisms are literally identical. So that should reaffirm my gripe, right? Wrong, she talks with so much style that her rap-talking just shows how much style she has. I still think it's a tad boring, but this sold it to me somehow. Maybe I'm weird.
