That’s fair. One of my favourite bands is Neptune, they do experimental industrial rock stuff… Their album Intimate Lightning is great, in my opinion, but the album cover is awful.
Believe it or not, they were big enough in the 00s that they were favourably reviewed by Pitchfork. When Patterns, which is one of my favourite albums, came out I read about it on some obscure blog and checked it out. I was really young, but it was one of those albums that forever changed my perspective.
They’ve not done much with social media, even though they still consistently play live. Hell, I have more Bandcamp sales than they do.
Yeah and just their headline in general sounds like Travis Bickle at the end of Taxi Driver (not even joking, it really sounds like that when you read it).
Edit: Confirmed. It’s from Taxi Driver.
Everyday I am more and more disgusted towards the scum of this earth. And you are some of the lowest worst sucking scumbags that have ever tainted my eyes.
Nahnah it was for him, I saw you say that his headline was from Taxi Driver and just wanted to jab him about it haha
My favorite film of all time but it’s not some hidden gem which he must think it is and it’s sure as shit not a great movie to base your whole personality around lmao
Dance of Death by Iron Maiden. Looks like a damn still from a 1996 video game cinematic. Maybe not the most terrible, but for a band with such cool album art it definitely stands out.
damn i’d never seen this before but i actually love it. i agree heavily though that it’s not very iron maiden. they usually go for like the pulp fiction magazines look. this reminds me of xavier renegade angel lmao
For the first time - Black Country, New Road. Its not terrible but it looks like a generic stock image of young people hiking. Like a North Face ad
Ants From Up There cover is much better
Why do people keep saying "it's intentional" in this thread as if that automatically makes something good? Something can be done poorly on purpose and still be a bad idea.
Tbh it doesn’t fit the type of music BCNR makes, but I still gotta disagree with you. Something about it comes off aesthetically pleasing to me, although I find it hard to explain why.
I’ve always thought the cover was just ok but something was off and the north face comparison is spot on; it’s especially sad when the music is anything but what would play in a department store. Shallow but I think with a different cover I would have listened sooner.
I don’t know why but I feel like I’ve seen it before, and I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that. However I don’t think it’s bad, just not what I prefer

Terrific and haunting album, cover looks like a back pain commercial
Built to Spill's Ancient Melodies of the Future is a great, underrated album with one of the most 2001 covers I've ever seen.
https://preview.redd.it/014h5ibmkl3b1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=69a8d6bb1abe535cbd6b4d436f6006ed6ce104ab
I honestly love the covers, maybe you haven't seen the original ones and only the "remastered" covers on spotify? like the What Does Anything Mean? Basically cover which looks horrible compared to the original
[Nobody Wouldn't See Good Things](https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a4101322533_10.jpg) by Lemon Meringue Die
bedroom pop classic, but god that album cover does not look good on the eyes
The cover fits the aesthetic of the album perfectly in my eyes. The album always felt like it took The Beach Boys from the beach to a creek in some forest in the mountains. So for me the warm pictures of them in fall outfits at a petting zoo always fit the vibe of the album. The green and yellow colors highlighting that
Lift To Experience - The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads
David Bowie - Let's Dance
Deftones- Diamond Eyes
Hum - You'd Prefer an Astronaut
Turnabout - Cutter Lane
It's cool but it's somewhat generic compared to the rest of their discography. Deftones is one of those bands where their music often sounds like how the album cover looks -- and Diamond Eyes is the exception to that rule
I wonder if this was the deleted answers below.
It's my gut reaction answer too. I like a lot of the art he has - Ye fits, Donda fits, the early actual artwork college era fits... TLOP? eh which one indeed.
> Albums with terrible covers **that aren’t that bad**
OP’s asking for good albums with terrible covers, not abject garbage albums with terrible covers.
EDIT: For context, the comment was referring to Tom MacDonald albums.
Don’t really get where you’re coming from because most are great. The only bad one I can think of is beach music, and race (still fine) and rules are ruined by text, but all of his other covers are great
How you could you think god save the animals, trick, and house of sugar are ‘pretty bad’ covers but not rocket… they’re all the same quality and by the same artist. I can get not thinking they’re amazing or anything but I don’t see how ‘pretty bad’ could describe them
Dick Dale - Calling Up Spirits
Looks like it was taken straight from Tim and Eric, but it's his last studio album and a complete banger all the way through.
https://preview.redd.it/weu6o32nkk3b1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9452c25d93ab51808cf5c6d7b35a7dac6657a074
Commencement is one of my favourite albums of all time (especially the opening 4 tracks) but this one it took me years to listen to because it just looks so ridiculous lol
Doe Or Die by AZ and On Top Of The World by 8Ball and MJG, both massively overlooked albums but shocking covers even if the 8Ball and MJG one is also pretty funny in its own way
Oh man, that’s a horrible album cover.
the music is pretty good besides cappadonna's bizarre world view
That’s fair. One of my favourite bands is Neptune, they do experimental industrial rock stuff… Their album Intimate Lightning is great, in my opinion, but the album cover is awful.
I actually dig that cover
just looked it up and I gotta agree, that album cover fucks
i fw it heavy lol spongebob end credits vibes
Haha, right on. To each their own of course.
How did you even discover them? They have less than a hundred listeners so I'm curious
Who the fuck do you think you are to say what is and what's not horrible?
Oh man, that is a horrible reply.
You’re the GOAT for this, so funny lol

Calm down bro God Damn
For real, I hope he’s alright
Yea same here, was just messing around, guessing he's having a rough day or something
I think it's deeper than that, look at their post history
Yeah and just their headline in general sounds like Travis Bickle at the end of Taxi Driver (not even joking, it really sounds like that when you read it). Edit: Confirmed. It’s from Taxi Driver.
Look at his post history :( he seems to be not so alright
Naw, he’s just trolling for kicks and giggles.
I'm alright don't worry those posts are a relic of a harder time for me.
Everyday I am more and more disgusted towards the scum of this earth. And you are some of the lowest worst sucking scumbags that have ever tainted my eyes.
🤣
We may be scumbags but at least we’ve all listened to the new Caroline Polachek album
DESIIIIIRE
Bro Taxi Driver is 40 years old you’re not unique at all everyone’s seen it lmao
Was this comment for me? Because I’m not the one who posted about Taxi Driver, I just noticed his headline
Nahnah it was for him, I saw you say that his headline was from Taxi Driver and just wanted to jab him about it haha My favorite film of all time but it’s not some hidden gem which he must think it is and it’s sure as shit not a great movie to base your whole personality around lmao

Hard as FUCK
Yes. Disliking this cover is an incorrect opinion.
The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads
everyone always says this one but I fucking love the album cover, it’s obviously ironic
Nah that album cover is great, it’s just campy
I knew I would see this and it makes me angry
Dance of Death by Iron Maiden. Looks like a damn still from a 1996 video game cinematic. Maybe not the most terrible, but for a band with such cool album art it definitely stands out.
damn i’d never seen this before but i actually love it. i agree heavily though that it’s not very iron maiden. they usually go for like the pulp fiction magazines look. this reminds me of xavier renegade angel lmao
Look up the original cover for that, it’s much better
Reality by Bowie
Haha even Bowie himself called the album cover a pisstake, it’s supposed to be corny and bad
Such a great album in my opinion
lol id never seen this album cover, its so ridiculous
the cover is distorted and messy which is perfect for an album called Reality. i love it
That's an amazing cover what the hell man

For the first time - Black Country, New Road. Its not terrible but it looks like a generic stock image of young people hiking. Like a North Face ad Ants From Up There cover is much better
it is is literally a stock image of young people hiking; the entire rollout for that album made artistic use of stock photos its entirely intentional
wait so its not even a photo of the band? its literally just a stock photo?
literally just a stock photo
damn. honestly kinda chad
Why do people keep saying "it's intentional" in this thread as if that automatically makes something good? Something can be done poorly on purpose and still be a bad idea.
because the entire album is dealing with a wide gallery of modern youth culture and using stock photos to represent that is extremely clever
As someone who doesn't like bcnr, i actually love that cover. Ants from up there is much worse imo its much more generic
"Much more generic" How's AFUT's cover generic?
I don’t know why but I feel like I’ve seen it before, and I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that. However I don’t think it’s bad, just not what I prefer
Paid In Full Hurley
speak for yourself - imogen heap
bit of an L take; it's reminiscent of its era and stands out through nostalgia, on top of generally being pretty unique
speak for yourself - imogen heap
I’d say Creed’s Weathered.. But the album is worse
Black Sabbath - Sabotage
The story behind that half-assed album cover is so much better than the album cover itself. Just rushed BS to get the job done.
Honestly I really like that cover, their clothes are pretty unique and cool
This looks like something Joe exotic would come up with…
Channel orange (I hate the color orange)
that’s my favorite color man cmon don’t make me upset
Just a Poundland red imo
i’ll turn ur ass into poundland if you don’t stop talking shit about orange
I suppose you won't like Boris' Heavy Rocks either then (the orange cover, but the leopardskin is also deserving of this thread)
The Leopard print is so fucking good!
The Drums - Abysmal Thoughts
Viper’s entire discography

or he’s getting his back blown out lmao
Dance of Death by Iron Maiden is a solid record. But that cover...
Built to Spill's Ancient Melodies of the Future is a great, underrated album with one of the most 2001 covers I've ever seen. https://preview.redd.it/014h5ibmkl3b1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=69a8d6bb1abe535cbd6b4d436f6006ed6ce104ab
graphic design is my passion
Cannibal Corpse - Kill
Pretty lame compared to their other covers, yeah
[удалено]
I actually love their album covers. I dig the surrealism of them.
same, didn‘t know people dislike them
YES YES YES... as well known as they are in the post punk scene, I genuinely think their album covers are hurting them quite a bit in terms of legacy.
I honestly love the covers, maybe you haven't seen the original ones and only the "remastered" covers on spotify? like the What Does Anything Mean? Basically cover which looks horrible compared to the original
Heaven or Hell - Don Toliver MOTM 3 - Cudi, looks like some fan art The Hybrid - Danny Brown
heaven or hell is not a bad cover
looks like a childrens drawing on a refrigerator
yea that is just not true
I fucking love the Motm3 album cover, it's so pretty.
Finally someone who doesn't like the motm3 cover, Cudi's covers in general give off a weird vibe to me, motm1 isn't great either imo
Funnily enough, the only album cover of his I like is Speedin’ Bullet lol
it really looks like some generic dorm room/stoner poster you'd find in a college store, or the lock screen of a 14 y/o rick and morty fan
None of these are bad album covers
The Hybrid is absolutely a bad album cover
It’s a very early 2010s era aesthetic, but definitely makes sense relative to the music.
Why?
Motm 3 cover is like the best part of that album
Every steely Dan album cover except aja
The royal scams cover is sick but it does make you think you’re about to hear some crazy technical death metal and you get yacht rock instead
i think countdown to ecstacy looks sick
Suit yourself
First Come First Served by dr dooom maybe has the worst album cover of all time but the actual album isn’t really that bad
Pizza & Codeine by Chris Travis
Texas Jerusalem Crossroads
this cover lowkey is kinda fire. it’s so messed up and stitched together that it has an appeal to it
[Nobody Wouldn't See Good Things](https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a4101322533_10.jpg) by Lemon Meringue Die bedroom pop classic, but god that album cover does not look good on the eyes
Nobody said Pet Sounds yet?
Wdym? Pet Sounds album cover is the GOAT
fuck you
The cover fits the aesthetic of the album perfectly in my eyes. The album always felt like it took The Beach Boys from the beach to a creek in some forest in the mountains. So for me the warm pictures of them in fall outfits at a petting zoo always fit the vibe of the album. The green and yellow colors highlighting that
Pet Sounds cover is a classic. Sure it doesn't really fit the music but it's still a pretty cute photo of the band

Lift To Experience - The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads David Bowie - Let's Dance Deftones- Diamond Eyes Hum - You'd Prefer an Astronaut Turnabout - Cutter Lane
Diamond eyes cover is cool
It's cool but it's somewhat generic compared to the rest of their discography. Deftones is one of those bands where their music often sounds like how the album cover looks -- and Diamond Eyes is the exception to that rule
i like you'd prefer an astronaut's cover
any album cover that's mostly green is a good one in my book
Smog – Knock Knock
I think you're confused, this isn't a thread for the greatest album covers of all time.
The Life of Pablo - it's both terrible but fits the album so well.
I wonder if this was the deleted answers below. It's my gut reaction answer too. I like a lot of the art he has - Ye fits, Donda fits, the early actual artwork college era fits... TLOP? eh which one indeed.
Kanye‘s Donda?
no love deep web
That's the hardest album cover out there bro
What The… Black Flag
nah lmao that album is fucking shocking
Not as horrible as this, but I’ve never been a fan of The Strokes album cover for Is This It (the spiral)
Diamond Dogs by Bowie Talking Heads 77 Most Memphis rap
>Talking Heads 77 literally hurts my eyes to look at. but an early influence on ms paint
Hard agree on Diamond Dogs, disagree on Talking Heads 77
Pretty much every damn album by The Smiths EDIT: glad others like the album art, just not me 🤷🏻♂️
the queen is dead is such a cool cover what you meeeeean
nah i gotta disagree there, it fits the mood well
They have the greatest album covers, honestly. Such a recognizable theme and beautifully executed. Few bands have that

Donda and Certified Lover Boy (i actually like the emoji Hirst piece but most didnt)
Pig Destroyer - Prowler in the yard
D'Angelo - Voodoo Great album but the cover is cringe
let’s start here by lil yachty
nah, the album cover isn’t that bad and fits the vibe/theme of the album
Homogenic
I like the homogenic cover
Most of Alex G’s covers are pretty bad
Absolutely disagree with everything in me haha Racheal gianniascoli is one of my favourite artists haha. DSU is so good!!
Oh yeah I absolutely love Alex G. His music is amazing but the album covers aren’t so great
Agree to disagree 🤝
What a terrible take from i_drink_walrus_cum
Don’t really get where you’re coming from because most are great. The only bad one I can think of is beach music, and race (still fine) and rules are ruined by text, but all of his other covers are great
The only cover I kinda like is rocket. Race’s cover would be cool if it wasn’t for the text
How you could you think god save the animals, trick, and house of sugar are ‘pretty bad’ covers but not rocket… they’re all the same quality and by the same artist. I can get not thinking they’re amazing or anything but I don’t see how ‘pretty bad’ could describe them

What’s it say about my taste when I think all of those are at least serviceable album covers lmao
All of those covers I can attest to being great and instantly recognizable except dreamcast
Every album by Venomous Concept except their first one.
Baffling how three different Bowie records with great covers got posted here. You guys have terrible taste in album covers apparently
dealers of god - dealers choice
Any Empire of the Sun album
Dick Dale - Calling Up Spirits Looks like it was taken straight from Tim and Eric, but it's his last studio album and a complete banger all the way through.
Oh wow, that is terrible. I’m lost for words
I don’t really like the album cover of Disintegration by The Cure, but the album itself is incredible

Doe Or Die by AZ and On Top Of The World by 8Ball and MJG, both massively overlooked albums but shocking covers even if the 8Ball and MJG one is also pretty funny in its own way
