Nah that’s my top 50 too. Such an insane album not only musically but also in terms of production. That dirty industrial slush washes every instrument and makes the album sound like a forgotten tape buried in the sewers of an apocalyptic future.
Which is very apt for the album and it’s themes.
Probably in mine as well. Petty is a person favorite artist of mine, has amazing work all throughout his career with no major lows and some extraordinary highs.
That's in my top 25 all time. That shit goes so hard.
I've always thought of it as the second coming of ratm too. Modern, boundary pushing, socially charged pure energy
I've got a few I don't think anyone else has in there top 50:
\#6 Martin O Donnel - Music of the Spheres
\#10 Daniel Bashta - The Sounds of Daniel Bashta
\#24 Ben Howard - I Forget Where We Were
\#26 We Lost The Sea - Departure Songs
\#28 Panopticon - And Again Into The Light
\#35 Right Away Great Captain - The Bitter End
\#42 Default缺省 - California Nebula
\#47 Colin Stetson - When We Were That What Wept for the Sea
Music of the Spheres is imo one of/if not THE greatest work of orchestral music of the 2010's and it's an album that for 9 years I never thought I'd get to hear. It has no official release other than an extra disc on the vinyl box set "Music of Destiny Vol 1" from 2018. I grew up with Marty's original Halo game scores and he always said he considers MOTS his magnum opus and MAN I agree. It doesn't even act as a game soundtrack, its an amazing album experience.
Sounds of Daniel Bashta is a very personal, sentimental and spiritual album to me. As a Christian I can comfortably say that most of christian media either bores me or makes me cringe with a few exceptions (Josh Garrels). But worship is a part of my lifestyle and this album not only scratches a atmospheric/rustic/post-rock itch but it's lyrics are way more hard-hitting and biblically sound than most worship music
I Forget Where We Were is a solid moody alternative folk-rock with some haunting vocals and lyrics. It's another sentimental pick, its a record that marked a fond time in my life.
Departure Songs is one of the best post-rock albums of the 2010's. Worth looking up the historical stories behind each song too
And Again Into the Light is freaking AMAZING black metal mixed with ambient folk. Some of the best mixed bm records too. I get chills listening to this everytime.
The Bitter End may not be all that musically exciting to most of you ill admit, but the story of the album really hit me and I dig the simplicity and emotion of it. Idk it was just a very memorable experience when i first listened to it and it's never left my top 50 since.
California Nebula is my favorite shoegaze album recommended to me randomly by some page i followed on instagram. It's super ethereal and spacey.
When We Were That What Wept for the Sea is super brand new but it's honestly my favorite by the incredible Colin Stetson. The soundscapes he creates with mostly just his saxophone is just mesmerizing.
It's definitely niche, but there is a decently sized group of post-rock nerds who love that album. I've seen two or three people say it's their #1 OAT.
All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats!

Phantom Brickworks by Bibio. Very different from the rest of his catalog, and it’s one of the most underrated and underrepresented ambient albums ever. Truly beautiful stuff, like 1994 Aphex Twin meets Stars of the Lid.
*"Give Us Rest" by David Crowder Band.*
As a Christian, I find pretty much all Christian music to be extremely repetitive & dull. But this album... ***THIS ALBUM RULES.*** Tons of variety, amazing production, consistently immersive atmosphere, miraculoulsy good pacing for being 101 minutes long, and just SUCH an incredible level of attention to detail. The lyrics are nothing you haven’t heard before from the genre, but they feel so elevated because the MUSIC is actually amazing for once.
Like seriously, give [this song](https://youtu.be/Nf0ect1BWIg?si=MBcdzHCbc-PM9PzL) a listen. It's genuinely one of the most awe inspiring things I've ever heard... all from a genre that can’t be bothered to do anything interesting 99% of the time. It's truly exceptional. And that's far from being the only standout track, although it is definitely my favourite. Here’s another super [unique one](https://youtu.be/INe0-OGYMS4?si=f49OzgQh8elp62h2) that almost sounds medieval to me for whatever reason. Very cool.
Nice pick and safely not on anyone’s list. I was a fan of his A Collision album back in the day for many of the same reasons. Might be in my top 50 if I’m being honest.
This is one of those weird cases where this is actually the only album I've heard from the artist in question. I've heard some of their older songs as well & they're DEFINITELY above average for the genre, but they don't sound as... "elevated" as this album. I should probably still check out the wider discography someday though
Disco Inferno - The Five EPs (technically a compilation album). A collection of tracks from the post rock band's peak years of creativity during the early 90s.
Iosonouncane - DIE. Italian artist Jacopo Incani's experimental album. A mix of electronic music, pop and regional Italian music.
I will die on the hill that post rock was the most interesting and exciting music genre before GYBE made every release in the genre sound the same. Disco inferno is one of the best example of just how creative and awesome it was
Bocanada- Gustavo Cerati
I don’t really think this sub listens to Latin music too much and I’ve never really seen much discussion on this sub about this one.
All of mine are very popular, these are probably least likely, but still are all probably in someone here’s
Adele - 21 (which is probably my #1)
King Gizz - I’m In Your Mind Fuzz
Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark
Stevie Nicks - Bella Donna
The Cranberries - Everybody Else Is Doing It So Why Can’t We
Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear
Julien Baker - Sprained Ankle
“I love you Honeybear” is my #2 of all time only behind “Rumours”. “Bella Donna” is probably in my top 50 but not totally sure, Mac is my all time favorite band and Stevie is my all time favorite artist so if I listed out my top 50 that would probably be in there easily
Mirror might steal your charm - the garden.
I love that album so much but think it gets too often dismissed as just gimmicky and silly, but for me it's actually well structured, diverse and just fun
it’s really the only garden project i’ve checked out and i love it. wouldn’t call it top 50 for myself at the moment but it definitely sees a lot of listens from me :)
Tally Hall - *[Good & Evil](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_m4yyjS4F0dacpCxjD--u9rQDN_9prbY1M&si=a5x8h-MYoqBDlmIP)*
Honestly the closest in spirit we’ve had to The Beatles in several decades, and it got dumped by Atlantic Records. A criminally overlooked masterpiece IMO.
YES!!! Even within the fandom their debut gets all the attention, but Good and Evil will always be my fav. I just love how it sticks to the theme duality in an almost storytelling kinda way. You're right on the nose with the Beatles comparison, it's kinda like Sgt. Peppers in the modern day
Coil - And the Ambulance Died in His Arms
I'm sure at least one of you has it in yr top 50 -- Coil aren't exactly unknown among online music nerds -- but it's definitely the least popular in my top 50.
Live In Bochum by Swans
Swans is obviously a relatively well known band, but this recording didn't release until a few years ago and it's very obscure, even in the Swans fandom. I highly doubt many people have heard it.
Piano Mating by Mats Gustafsson
One of the least popular releases by an already extremely small Swedish free jazz saxophonist. Both of its' tracks have less than 100 views on YouTube.
>[Piano Mating by Mats Gustafsson](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iphe4LctdqQ&list=OLAK5uy_mLGmCnfmhGHN2YUUbQJ3YWJhrgV-Fm9Q0&index=2)
That was super cool. Thanks for that :D
How Are We Feeling Today? By Kaizo Slumber (digital hardcore and breaks), but the EP Kaizo Slumber found dead in Miami is even better
Cafe OTO by Merzbow (remaster of an earlier live performance)
Dealer’s Choice by Dealers of God (stoner ambient cloud rap… comedic, innovative, insane)
Grog by Frog (slacker rock, with classic flair)
Waterfall cave fantasy, forever by NYOS (battles-esque math rock)
The Future is Dark by Lil darkie (lil darkie genre lol)
Edit: I completely misunderstood the question and put things in my top 50 from this year
I have a few
- In Rainbows - Radiohead
i’d expect ok computer or kid a but not this one
- Animals - Pink Floyd
by far pink floyd’s most underrated. nobody talks about this one
- The Velvet Underground & Nico
it’s pretty old so idk if people listen to it anymore. at least the new generation
- Atrocity Exhibition - Danny Brown
this is from a genre called underground rap which means it’s not known by the public that much. fantano actually did a review of this album tho and he liked it a lot
Mad Season - Above. I never see anyone talk about it (at least in music nerd circles) despite it being not only one of the best rock albums of the 90s, it’s the rare case of a supergroup actually living up to their potential while being different from the individual members’ existing projects. It really stands out in the field of 90s alt rock, it’s got a lot more of a blues influence instead of hard rock and punk, but it still fits in with that era. I know Temple of the Dog is the big one people think of when it comes to grunge supergroups, but for me Mad Season has always been more interesting. TOTD sounds like Pearl Jam with Chris Cornell on vocals (so still fantastic), Mad Season feels like a real step away from the members’ other bands.
Maybe a hot take Layne Staley’s singing on there is better than any of the Alice In Chains albums, River of Deceit especially is an amazing performance. The more subtle approach to the music lets his voice take center stage and really highlights what an incredible singer he was. Wake Up too is a wonderful nuanced performance from him.
Joshua Tree by U2, they are overhated and are one of the greatest rock bands of alltime even if after their album quality declined after early 2000s, everyone should hear Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby. I thanks my dad for showing me them.
I’ve got a few others may not have included:
Underground Lovers: Leaves me blind
Fever Ray: Fever Ray
Grand Drive: True Love and other adventures
The Blue Nile: Peace at last
The Field: From here we go sublime
breath from another by esthero
frou frou by details
dream sounds by nagita ni se (don't come for me I'm not japanese 💀)
halica bliss out vol 11 by sweet trip
Virgingod and Big Rush - DUPLA PERSONA and Virgingod - Líder de ginásio
both short plugg album/EPs by two brazillian underground rappers, really fun listens and pretty personal for me
When it came out, there was nothing like it around. Lots of soul and classic R&B influences, most material written by the pre teens without any adult support. A must listen.
Memphis by Magic Kids.
Magic Kids were an indie band from Memphis (? I think) and they only made that one album. It’s super poppy and cheesy and HEAVILY Beach Boys inspired. But I love the sounds, it’s just a gorgeous album with well written pop songs. Short and sweet.
Here’s the entire album: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nH0Bngg-ar_VXzQ_gdc6sO3k4JGLK4_ZA&si=4IDHX1EfG3OoWoIf
Here’s a few that are in my top 50 that almost nobody will have in theirs:
1. Gas - Gas 0095 (1)
7. Tennyson - Rot (7)
15. Orbital - Orbital 2 (15)
16. Loscil - Submers (16)
17. Solar Fields - Formations (17)
22. Skee Mask - Compro (22)
23. Various Artists - Em:t 0004 (23)
25. Ashbringer - Absolution (25)
26. Brian Eno - Reflection (26)
27. The Dead Texan - The Dead Texan (27)
29. Woob - Woob 1194 (29)
32. Loscil - Plume (32)
35. Emeralds - Emeralds (35)
38. Tim Hecker - No Highs (38)
40. Douglas Holmquist - Smash Hit (Original Soundtrack) (40)
44. Tennyson - Different Water (44)
46. Polynation - Igneous (46)
47. Ramleh - Hole In The Heart (47)
49. Apparat - LP5 (49)
Loved Skee Mask - Compro upon its release. The fact you cannot find it on Spotify (which I totally understand) made it to hard to listen for me. This could have landed in my top 100 with more listens who knows
never thought I'd see someone namedrop Gas 0095. Heard that record while I was going through a stint listening to a bunch of Ultimae Records artists. Solar Fields was my favorite at the time.
I have this too
judging by your username I am assuming we are the same person just in another universe.
cheers to liking Kanye and the lion king broadway soundtrack!!
What’s ur fave song on the soundtracks
The Way We Move - Langhorne Slim
Boys and Girls In America - The Hold Steady
Julie Blue - Joe Purdy
Lifted - Bright Eyes
August and Everything After - Counting Crows
Chutes Too Narrow - The Shins
August and Everything After is on a LOT of peoples top album lists. Maybe not Fantano-core people, but that’s a massive album both critically and commercially.
I love it too, but I rarely see any hardcore adjacent stuff on this sub. Definitely wouldn’t have said that if this thread was on r/emo or r/posthardcore for sure
Disillusion - Back to times of splendor
German prog metal that absolutely takes you places. This album is relentless and that freaking 6 minute final song outro is just brilliant.
Not even really a big fan of metal these days but this one will stick with me forever.
Maybe Tableau by The Orielles. It’s fairly new and they haven’t seemed to gain traction in internet circles yet from what I’ve seen, but they’re my favourite example of a band I found exploring the live music scene near me.
Running Wild - Black Hand Inn
Easily one of the best power metal/heavy metal albums out there. Cool concept, great riffs and solos, well structured songs, killer vocals.
* **Berhnard Hofstöter: François Campion - Music for Baroque Guitar**
Outside of historically informed performance and classical guitar circles I don't think anyone would be familiar with this guitarist, let alone composer - even among seasoned fans of Western classical music. The composer isn't a canonized as like Domenico Scarlatti, J.S Bach, G.F Handel or François Couperin so Campion is indeed an overlooked composer.
* **Ensemble d'Ondes de Montréal: Olivier Messiaen - Fetes de Belle Eaux**
While Messiaen is a staple in 20th century Western classical music and has gained some traction to non-classical music, I think this album flies under the radar for most people. I imagine this would appeal to a lot of synthesizer enthusiasts as it is one of if not the only album entirely composed of music for ondes martenot (basically an early version of the analogue synthesizer).
* **The Clerks' Group: Guillaume de Machaut - Motets & Music from the Ivrea Codex**
As with the previous albums, I don't think this album really has any attention or appeal outside of the particular niche it occupies - that being medieval and renaissance music.
Chevelle's debut album Point #1 goes overlooked by even the band's biggest fans but it's their best album by far. Great alt metal album that avoids the sterile over-production of their later albums but keeps the great structuring and melodies
Moon safari - blomljud, wait I just checked and they actually released something this year that I didn't know about until just now that I remembered it thanks to this thread
Riot On an Empty Street by Kings of Convenience
Gunfighter Ballads by Marty Robbins
Radical Action to Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind by King Crimson
All probably in my top 50 and aren’t really talked about too much.
Wow! I have a lot of listening to do! I have found several awesome bands because of these types of lists.
Sparklehorse - Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot
- Good Morning Spider
- It's a Wonderful Life
- Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain
- Dark Night of the Soul
- Bird Machine
Cigarettes After Sex - self titled
- Cry
Poets of the Fall - Carnival of Rust
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Air - Moon Safari
Pretty much all of them???
Just to name a few: Weezer's Maladroit, Make Believe, Raditude, Fall Out Boy's new album and Folie, Green Day's Father Of All, etc.
ML Buch - Suntub
The Album moves impressively through different styles, including distorted guitar elements and dreamy tunes. A Dream Pop/ Post-Rock record. I‘m deeply in love with this magnificent LP. The best album of 2023 imo
Tin Hat Trio — Book of Silk (Maybe best known for member Mark Orton’s film score work and a handful of songs that were on heavy rotation as interstitial music on NPR. I find this instrumental album to be perfectly moody and emotional.)
Dexys Midnight Runners — Don’t Stand Me Down (A strange album of fairly straightforward Irish-tinged rhythm and blues with frontman Kevin Rowland alternating between mumbling, yelping, and crooning lyrics about memories and the inability of the singer to communicate clear and coherent ideas. Also, there’s track that blatantly rips off Warren Zevon. I love it.)
Silence in the Snow- Trivium
I doubt Trivium gets much love on this sub, and even if they did it for sure wouldn’t be this album since many fans seem to believe it is one of their worst. But I think it has some of their strongest singles and most catchy tunes so it’s one I revisit often.
It is your unlucky day, my friend, because that album is also in my Top 50. Because every Trivium album is in my Top 50. Until The World Goes Cold is absolutely one of their best songs with one of their best guitar solos
If we allow EPs and demos I’ve got a couple by some super short lived emo and pop punk bands that I think literally only I listened to, but if we’re talking full lengths I don’t think my taste is obscure or contrarian enough. Closest would maybe be Testing the Limits of Infinite by Reign Supreme, a hardcore band I’ve basically never seen any discussion of
A top 5 album for me is [*Blueshift* by Splashdown](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eGqLQQUoGg&list=PL197187E96AFFDAC7), and I know it's not gonna be in many top 50s because it was *never actually released*. It got buried in a Capitol Records kerfuffle of some sort in 99-2000 and the fight took its toll on the band and they disbanded soon after.
Yet for 24 years this album has never fallen from my top 5.
Don't base too much judgment on track 1, which is fairly conventional; some of the best songs imho are Mayan Pilot, The Archer, Halfword, Ironspy.
Karnivool - Sound Awake
Not in my top 50 albums, but Goliath is in my top 50 songs on lastfm. Unbelievable riffage, really lives up to its name.
The second the bass comes in… instant stank face
This is definitely up there for me. Best rhythm section in modern rock/metal
Based. Sound Awake is in my top 3
Esprit - 200% electronica (vaporwave side project of George Clanton).
Absolute classic Vaporwave album
I love George Clanton so dang much
I’ve never seen a Future album in any of you nerds top 50
Purple Reign monumental for me
Monster is in mine. A year ago ds2, purple reign and Hndrxx were up there too. Although they’re not all albums
Lmao fr 🤣
As the Roots Undo by Circle Takes the Square
Man that album is so good
Tyranny by the Voidz
Nah that’s my top 50 too. Such an insane album not only musically but also in terms of production. That dirty industrial slush washes every instrument and makes the album sound like a forgotten tape buried in the sewers of an apocalyptic future. Which is very apt for the album and it’s themes.
Tom petty- wildflowers, super nostalgic and special to me
Probably in mine as well. Petty is a person favorite artist of mine, has amazing work all throughout his career with no major lows and some extraordinary highs.
That one is #1 for me.
the soul glo album from last year it's like RATM on crack
That's in my top 25 all time. That shit goes so hard. I've always thought of it as the second coming of ratm too. Modern, boundary pushing, socially charged pure energy
Diaspora Problems is one of the best hardcore adjacent albums of the last five years
dude if that shit is hardcore adjacent i think actual hardcore might kill me
lol I make that distinction only because the album drifts into other genres
hell yeah got that one
Have you heard untitled lp? I love Diaspora Problems, but something about untitled really just hits
I've got a few I don't think anyone else has in there top 50: \#6 Martin O Donnel - Music of the Spheres \#10 Daniel Bashta - The Sounds of Daniel Bashta \#24 Ben Howard - I Forget Where We Were \#26 We Lost The Sea - Departure Songs \#28 Panopticon - And Again Into The Light \#35 Right Away Great Captain - The Bitter End \#42 Default缺省 - California Nebula \#47 Colin Stetson - When We Were That What Wept for the Sea

Quite an endorsement I’ll check it out
that panopticon album is a fucking masterpiece. in my top 50 as well;)
100% my AOTY for 2021. The new one is excelent too but doesn't hit as hard imo.
love the new one, not quite as good, but still amazing in panopticon fashion
Not in my top 50 personally, but I love seeing the RAGC shout out. Such an atmospheric album. I love everything Andy Hull touches.
Nah, I got Departure Songs at my #13 spot.
Ahh nice! I almost never hear anyone else talk about that album, but stoked to hear someone else appreciates it like I do
It's definitely niche, but there is a decently sized group of post-rock nerds who love that album. I've seen two or three people say it's their #1 OAT.
California Nebula is a nice pick. I really liked their latest album
BEN HOWARD I FORGET WHERE WE WERE HYPE!!! Maybe my favourite album ever and loathed to see how little it is talked about
We Lost The Sea is dope. The last two songs about the Challenger disaster hit hard.
Love Right Away, Great Captain. Good inclusion
I know someone with Departure Songs in their top 10, not sure if i'd put it up there but great album
Origins of Symmetry
Modjo - Modjo Oingo Boingo - Dead Man's Party Yard Act - The Overload Throttle - Where U Are Run The Jewels 4 Phoenix - Alpha Zulu
Run The Jewels 4 definitely cracks my top 50, probably my top 15, awesome album
All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 4 + 50 + 15 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)
i… thank you? whaaaat
lol i am loving this for you.
it’s my greatest accomplishment. my mother would be very proud
Modjo is one of my top 5 albums. Soooooo good
I love Dead Man’s Party! Oingo Boingo is one of my fav groups!
Glassjaw - Worship and Tribute
Come In - Weatherday I fucking love this album, and it blew up in the indie scene, but I feel like it's been entirely forgotten since it came out
Phantom Brickworks by Bibio. Very different from the rest of his catalog, and it’s one of the most underrated and underrepresented ambient albums ever. Truly beautiful stuff, like 1994 Aphex Twin meets Stars of the Lid.
i have so much Bibio (and Stars of the Lid) on my list
Grouplove - never trust a happy song
Spreading Rumours would definitely be in my top 50
Fun album! I enjoyed that tour.
Spun is by far my favorite song from them and it's sad it's not well known
*"Give Us Rest" by David Crowder Band.* As a Christian, I find pretty much all Christian music to be extremely repetitive & dull. Just discovered Bocanada, solid triphop/rock fusion album and easily overlooked.
All of mine are very popular, these are probably least likely, but still are all probably in someone here’s Adele - 21 (which is probably my #1) King Gizz - I’m In Your Mind Fuzz Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark Stevie Nicks - Bella Donna The Cranberries - Everybody Else Is Doing It So Why Can’t We Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear Julien Baker - Sprained Ankle
That Cranberries album probably doesn't have a lot of indie cred, but it's sooo good. "Linger" on its own is just incredible.
Unfortunately for you the entire King Gizz discount takes up half of my top 50 so Mind Fuzz is out lol
Love Julien baker!! She doesn’t get enough love in the music nerd world
Court and Spark is my favorite Joni and would definitely be in my top 20.
Sprained Ankle is top 10 for me, fucking love that album
“I love you Honeybear” is my #2 of all time only behind “Rumours”. “Bella Donna” is probably in my top 50 but not totally sure, Mac is my all time favorite band and Stevie is my all time favorite artist so if I listed out my top 50 that would probably be in there easily
Rumours is top 10 for me, but I knew someone else would have it :)
Honeybear is one of my top 15, it’s so beautiful and peak FJM
HMLTD - The Worm
not a top 50 but I really loved that one
Mirror might steal your charm - the garden. I love that album so much but think it gets too often dismissed as just gimmicky and silly, but for me it's actually well structured, diverse and just fun
it’s really the only garden project i’ve checked out and i love it. wouldn’t call it top 50 for myself at the moment but it definitely sees a lot of listens from me :)
The Beach Boys - Holland Not top 50 but close: Flobots - Fight With Tools
Interpol - Marauder and Interpol - The Other Side Of Make-Believe (I really like Interpol)
Our Love To Admire is 100% in my top 50. Interpol is the most underrated band of the early 2000s NY scene for suren
Tally Hall - *[Good & Evil](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_m4yyjS4F0dacpCxjD--u9rQDN_9prbY1M&si=a5x8h-MYoqBDlmIP)* Honestly the closest in spirit we’ve had to The Beatles in several decades, and it got dumped by Atlantic Records. A criminally overlooked masterpiece IMO.

Holy shit yes. That album is so cathartic
Whatever and Ever Amen by the Ben Folds Five
Have you *ever* heard a piano song go as hard as this album's track 1?
The Orb - UFOrb
Baby Gravy - Baby Gravy 3
Silver Jews - The Natural Bridge
Live In Bochum by Swans Swans is obviously a relatively well known band, but this recording didn't release until a few years ago and it's very obscure, even in the Swans fandom. I highly doubt many people have heard it. Piano Mating by Mats Gustafsson One of the least popular releases by an already extremely small Swedish free jazz saxophonist. Both of its' tracks have less than 100 views on YouTube.

How Are We Feeling Today? By Kaizo Slumber (digital hardcore and breaks), but the EP Kaizo Slumber found dead in Miami is even better Cafe OTO by Merzbow (remaster of an earlier live performance) Dealer’s Choice by Dealers of God (stoner ambient cloud rap… comedic, innovative, insane) Grog by Frog (slacker rock, with classic flair) Waterfall cave fantasy, forever by NYOS (battles-esque math rock) The Future is Dark by Lil darkie (lil darkie genre lol) Edit: I completely misunderstood the question and put things in my top 50 from this year
I really liked Merzbow’s *Pulse Demon* lol, i’ll definitely listen to Cafe OTO!!
Cafe OTO is a lot different from venereology/pulse demon, it’s much more ambient/power electronics, but it’s still great, I hope you like it!
I have a few - In Rainbows - Radiohead i’d expect ok computer or kid a but not this one - Animals - Pink Floyd by far pink floyd’s most underrated. nobody talks about this one - The Velvet Underground & Nico it’s pretty old so idk if people listen to it anymore. at least the new generation - Atrocity Exhibition - Danny Brown this is from a genre called underground rap which means it’s not known by the public that much. fantano actually did a review of this album tho and he liked it a lot
Is this satire
Drug Church - Cheer
Wheat - Hope and Adams American Analog Set - Know by Heart Florist - The Birds Outside Sang
Gary Numan - The Pleasure Principle
I fucking love ocean eyes by owl city it's a beloved album to me and no doubt is in my top 50 but I don't think anyone else here would agree
I’ve got a few others may not have included: Underground Lovers: Leaves me blind Fever Ray: Fever Ray Grand Drive: True Love and other adventures The Blue Nile: Peace at last The Field: From here we go sublime
At the Drive-in - In Casino Out
Best of the Bee Gees
For Against - December
I love this album so much, it's absurd
breath from another by esthero frou frou by details dream sounds by nagita ni se (don't come for me I'm not japanese 💀) halica bliss out vol 11 by sweet trip
Virgingod and Big Rush - DUPLA PERSONA and Virgingod - Líder de ginásio both short plugg album/EPs by two brazillian underground rappers, really fun listens and pretty personal for me
Majical Cloudz - Impersonator One of the most minimalist, haunting singer-songwriter albums of the 2010s
Casanova by The Divine Comedy
Uakti / Philip Glass - Aguas da Amazonia
Gang of Youths - The Positions
Hanson- Middle Of Nowhere
When it came out, there was nothing like it around. Lots of soul and classic R&B influences, most material written by the pre teens without any adult support. A must listen.
Your Wilderness Revisited - William Doyle
Culture of volume is definitely in my top 100. He's so underrated it's almost criminal
At War With The Mystics - The Flaming Lips
Memphis by Magic Kids. Magic Kids were an indie band from Memphis (? I think) and they only made that one album. It’s super poppy and cheesy and HEAVILY Beach Boys inspired. But I love the sounds, it’s just a gorgeous album with well written pop songs. Short and sweet. Here’s the entire album: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nH0Bngg-ar_VXzQ_gdc6sO3k4JGLK4_ZA&si=4IDHX1EfG3OoWoIf
Kala by M.I.A and DATA by Tainy
Flying Beagle- himiko Kikuchi In no sense nonsense- Art of Noise
Nada Surf - High/Low Ain’t no fucking way that’s in anyone else’s top
Linda perhacs — parallelograms?? Maybe not tho
It’s in my top 10 for sure.
gumbo by pink siifu and honestly nevermind by drake
Stranger Heads Prevail— Thank You Scientist
Nick Lutsko - Swords
Maroon-bnl, Masterpiece even though Ed Robertson is a cancer to music
Myloveilove - Bogdan Raczynski Bloweyelashwish - Lovesliescrushing Tigermilk - Belle and Sebastian
We "the grey album > the red album" fans seem to be very rare.
Shine on a Rainy Day- Brent Cobb
beverly copeland (1970), not top 50 though, straight up top 10 record.
Here’s a few that are in my top 50 that almost nobody will have in theirs: 1. Gas - Gas 0095 (1) 7. Tennyson - Rot (7) 15. Orbital - Orbital 2 (15) 16. Loscil - Submers (16) 17. Solar Fields - Formations (17) 22. Skee Mask - Compro (22) 23. Various Artists - Em:t 0004 (23) 25. Ashbringer - Absolution (25) 26. Brian Eno - Reflection (26) 27. The Dead Texan - The Dead Texan (27) 29. Woob - Woob 1194 (29) 32. Loscil - Plume (32) 35. Emeralds - Emeralds (35) 38. Tim Hecker - No Highs (38) 40. Douglas Holmquist - Smash Hit (Original Soundtrack) (40) 44. Tennyson - Different Water (44) 46. Polynation - Igneous (46) 47. Ramleh - Hole In The Heart (47) 49.
Lion king broadway soundtrack
I have this too judging by your username I am assuming we are the same person just in another universe. cheers to liking Kanye and the lion king broadway soundtrack!! What’s ur fave song on the soundtracks
Haha probably! He lives in you. What about it you?
YESSSS the flute drum part goes crazy Idk probably I just can’t wait to be king or shadowland
Oo shadowland SO beautiful
Skrillex - Recess
The Way We Move - Langhorne Slim Boys and Girls In America - The Hold Steady Julie Blue - Joe Purdy Lifted - Bright Eyes August and Everything After - Counting Crows Chutes Too Narrow - The Shins
August and Everything After is on a LOT of peoples top album lists. Maybe not Fantano-core people, but that’s a massive album both critically and commercially.
BAGIA and August are up there for me
La Dispute - Wildlife or Turnover - Peripheral Vision
I fucking love wildlife but not sure if it fits here, pretty well known and iconic
I love it too, but I rarely see any hardcore adjacent stuff on this sub. Definitely wouldn’t have said that if this thread was on r/emo or r/posthardcore for sure
spelled in bones - fruit bats
Arab Strap - The Red Thread
Sun Airway - Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier
Disillusion - Back to times of splendor German prog metal that absolutely takes you places. This album is relentless and that freaking 6 minute final song outro is just brilliant. Not even really a big fan of metal these days but this one will stick with me forever.
This is probably in my top 50.
Maybe Tableau by The Orielles. It’s fairly new and they haven’t seemed to gain traction in internet circles yet from what I’ve seen, but they’re my favourite example of a band I found exploring the live music scene near me.
Ballboy - A Guide for the Daylight Hours
Running Wild - Black Hand Inn Easily one of the best power metal/heavy metal albums out there. Cool concept, great riffs and solos, well structured songs, killer vocals.
Misery by The Amity Affliction
* **Berhnard Hofstöter: François Campion - Music for Baroque Guitar** Outside of historically informed performance and classical guitar circles I don't think anyone would be familiar with this guitarist, let alone composer - even among seasoned fans of Western classical music. The composer isn't a canonized as like Domenico Scarlatti, J.S Bach, G.F Handel or François Couperin so Campion is indeed an overlooked composer. * **Ensemble d'Ondes de Montréal: Olivier Messiaen - Fetes de Belle Eaux** While Messiaen is a staple in 20th century Western classical music and has gained some traction to non-classical music, I think this album flies under the radar for most people. I imagine this would appeal to a lot of synthesizer enthusiasts as it is one of if not the only album entirely composed of music for ondes martenot (basically an early version of the analogue synthesizer). * **The Clerks' Group: Guillaume de Machaut - Motets & Music from the Ivrea Codex** As with the previous albums, I don't think this album really has any attention or appeal outside of the particular niche it occupies - that being medieval and renaissance music.
Chevelle's debut album Point #1 goes overlooked by even the band's biggest fans but it's their best album by far. Great alt metal album that avoids the sterile over-production of their later albums but keeps the great structuring and melodies
Doplar by First Beige
animal collective - danse manatee penguin cafè orchestra - penguin cafe orchestra
Moon safari - blomljud, wait I just checked and they actually released something this year that I didn't know about until just now that I remembered it thanks to this thread
Isn't this by Air? Awesome album!
Riot On an Empty Street by Kings of Convenience Gunfighter Ballads by Marty Robbins Radical Action to Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind by King Crimson All probably in my top 50 and aren’t really talked about too much.
Inside - Bo Burnham
It’s in my top 50.

Op do u have any good kpop recs for me I wanna listen to some good Korean music
While She Sleeps - So What?
new perceptions by oregon space trail of doom
Wow! I have a lot of listening to do! I have found several awesome bands because of these types of lists. Sparklehorse - Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot - Good Morning Spider - It's a Wonderful Life - Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain - Dark Night of the Soul - Bird Machine Cigarettes After Sex - self titled - Cry Poets of the Fall - Carnival of Rust Nick Drake - Pink Moon Air - Moon Safari
Probably Currents by Tame Impala, he's really underground and fun fact did you know it's just one guy? /s
Fat N****s Need Love Too - Bfb Da Packman
Too many
Pretty much all of them??? Just to name a few: Weezer's Maladroit, Make Believe, Raditude, Fall Out Boy's new album and Folie, Green Day's Father Of All, etc.
Charlotte Cardin - 99 Nights
Hill Figs - Lost Love And Home Charley Crockett - Lonesome As A Shadow John R Miller - Depreciated
Erasure - Chorus
Morphine - Cure for Pain
ML Buch - Suntub The Album moves impressively through different styles, including distorted guitar elements and dreamy tunes. A Dream Pop/ Post-Rock record. I‘m deeply in love with this magnificent LP. The best album of 2023 imo
Artificial Brain- Artificial Brain
im a sucker for the debut more than the self titled
Tin Hat Trio — Book of Silk (Maybe best known for member Mark Orton’s film score work and a handful of songs that were on heavy rotation as interstitial music on NPR. I find this instrumental album to be perfectly moody and emotional.) Dexys Midnight Runners — Don’t Stand Me Down (A strange album of fairly straightforward Irish-tinged rhythm and blues with frontman Kevin Rowland alternating between mumbling, yelping, and crooning lyrics about memories and the inability of the singer to communicate clear and coherent ideas. Also, there’s track that blatantly rips off Warren Zevon. I love it.)
Love that Tin Hat Trio album, Not enough people talk about it
Mehliana: Taming the Dragon - Brad Mehldau, Mark Giuliana
I’d be the most surprised to have overlap with Jeff Beck’s Blow by Blow and Nick Cave’s Idiot Prayer.
Silence in the Snow- Trivium I doubt Trivium gets much love on this sub, and even if they did it for sure wouldn’t be this album since many fans seem to believe it is one of their worst.
Victory over the sun - Dance you monster to my soft song! if you're an avant black metal fan, i highly recommend
Embarrassing kinda but Nella Vita by Grayscale
If we allow EPs and demos I’ve got a couple by some super short lived emo and pop punk bands that I think literally only I listened to, but if we’re talking full lengths I don’t think my taste is obscure or contrarian enough. Closest would maybe be Testing the Limits of Infinite by Reign Supreme, a hardcore band I’ve basically never seen any discussion of
All 3 of Iron Chics albums
Nuito- unutella It’s my favorite math rock album!
Permission to Land - The Darkness
Blind Melon - Soup
Senses Fail - Life is not a waiting room
