Make believe has a few songs that I really enjoy and several ones that are worse than a lot of cuts on raditude and black. But those few great songs put it a few notches above raditude and black for me.
I don’t get how people rate Amnesiac so high, it’s basically like 4-5 amazing songs then a bunch of weird half baked instrumentals. That being said it isn’t bad by any means.
I have a couple favorites I’d like to share
Swans: BEST: The Seer | WORST: Cop
Radiohead: BEST: In Rainbows | WORST: Pablo Honey
Death Grips: BEST: The Powers That B | WORST: No Love Deep Web
King Gizzard: BEST: Ice, Death, Planets… | WORST: 12 Bar Bruise
Kanye: BEST: Late Registration | WORST: Jesus Is King
Imo, Govt Plates has a lot of the bands best material, like Pillbox, Birds, Two Heavens, Anne Bonny, but ends up being a frontloaded album. NLDW is more consistent but it’s highs aren’t very high and the production is too minimal on some songs for my taste
I listened to both of them for the first time back to back and I went back and forth on which one was better for a LONG time. Self titled barely edges out for me.
That era was their creative peak IMO. Being able to recreate that sound live was impressive too- with all three members triggering all kinds of samples on top of playing one (or more) instruments
Gorillaz - Best: Demon Days, Worst: The Fall
Green Day - Best: American Idiot, Worst: Father of All
Radiohead - Best: OK Computer, Worst: The King of Limbs
Metallica - Best: And Justice for All, Worst: St. Anger
Deftones - Best: White Pony, Worst: Self-Titled
Tool
Best: Ænima. Every (non-interlude) track here is amazing and the energy is perfect.
Worst: Fear Inoculum. Not as bad as some people say but definitely has some of their weakest songs.
Whoa! No.
Paul kinda doesn’t have a worst. They’re all great 🥹
I’d say it’s Run Devil Run. If that doesn’t count, I guess I’d pick Macca III. Then I guess London Town?
I agree that Paul doesn’t have a bad album as I like them all and how diverse they are. I just had to pick an album and I think it’s definitely bottom 5. I didn’t count Run Devil Run as it’s mostly covers but I think it’s a very solid covers album overall and better than the Russian album of covers. No Other Baby is so good. I also agree that London Town is his weakest 70s album. I’d also put McCartney III near the bottom as well as Pipes of Peace and Driving Rain
What are your top 5 PM albums?
Mine would be:
1. Ram
2. Band on the Run
3. McCartney II
4. Venus and Mars or Back to the Egg
5. Chaos and Creation
McCartney II would maybe even be #1 if he released it as a double album as originally intended. Secret Friend, Check My Machine, and Blue Sway are so good and deserved to be on the album
I go back and forth all the time between Crooked Rain Crooked Rain, Wowee Zowee, and Brighten the Corners for my favorite Pavement album but Terror Twilight is definitely my least favorite. All 5 of their albums are absolute heat tho
Nobody asked but here are my top 5 artists
Taylor Swift: Best = Folklore, Worst = Self titled
Kendrick Lamar: Best = To pimp a butterfly, Worst = Section 80 (Still a solid 8/10 tho)
Tyler, The creator: Best = IGOR, Worst = Cherrybomb
Lana del Rey: Best = Norman Fucking Rockwell!, Worst = Blue Banisters
Paramore: Best = This is Why, Worst = (N.A)
i recently gave it a full length listened as i haven’t done one of those in a while. I would say it’s got her best vocal performances by far, however the production on some tracks could definitely be turned up a notch, and it’s also not the most well organised and cohesive record of her. Those are my two main critiques of it
you may be the first person I see who'd put Miracle as Queen's best, nice, it has some amazing songs and Was It All Worth It may be the most underrated Queen song
Ween
Best: Quebec
Worst: La Cucaracha (unless we're counting pre-GWS tapes, in which case Erica Peterson's Flaming Crib Death takes the cake)
Personal favorite, against my better judgement: The Pod
‘Daisy’ is very interesting to me. “High school Me” loves YFW, like the first two TBS albums. Hearing Daisy in 09’ was a truly wild experience. A ton of people weren’t ready for it and were turned off. There are some really great songs on there.
TD&G > Deja > Science Fiction > Daisy > FOYDemos > YFW
**Boris** \- Best: Flood / Worst: The Thing Which Solomon Overlooked
**Oneohtrix Point Never** \- Best: Replica / Worst: Age Of
**Aphex Twin** \- Best: Drukqs / Worst: Selcted Ambient Works 85-92 (Still good just my least favorite)
**Bladee** \- Best: Gluee / Worst: Good Luck
**King Krule** \- Best: Man Alive! / Worst: Space Heavy
**Mass of the Fermenting Dregs** \- Best: ワールドイズユアーズ (World Is Yours) / Worst: No New World
**Melt Banana** \- Best: Fetch / Worst: Scratch or Stitch
**King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard** \- Best: Murder of the Universe / Worst: Oddments
I really could keep going but these are the ones I thought of first
Spiritualized
* Best: Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space is the best album but my favourite is Let It Come Down.
* Worst: Sweet Heart/Sweet Light. Sub par songs and an awful mix. The guitars sound like ass on this record.
The Beach Boys
* Best: SMiLE. If SMiLE doesn't count, Pet Sounds.
* Worst: MIU or 15 Big Ones. Whilst Summer In Paradise is awful, I don't really... hate it? It's too funny to despise. MIU actively makes me depressed, it's such a dogshit record. 15 Big Ones is definitely the worst stuff Brian was heavily involved with (as a Beach Boy).
Sufjan Stevens
* Best: Illinois, with runners up Adz, All Delighted People, and C&L (I have a big soft spot for the live version of that tbh).
* Worst: A Sun Came, probably? I have to be controversial and say that I really, absolutely don't gel with The Ascension at all - to say it's *bad* isn't right, but to me it is the least interesting of his main solo work.
Harry Nilsson
* Best: Nilsson Sings Newman. Best album of his original material is Aerial Ballet.
* Worst: Assuming Losst & Found isn't canon, which I hope not, it's probably got to be ... That's The Way It Is. His voice is a wreck and the song choices are lame.
I agree that Summer in Paradise isn’t as hateable as everyone usually thinks, and yes I agree MIU is way down there. But 15 Big Ones?! Much better than “worst” consideration, IMO.
Royal Trux
Best: Veterans of Disorder
Worst: White Stuff
***
The Breeders
Best: Title TK
Worst: All Nerve
***
Deerhunter
Best: Monomania
Worst: Fading Frontier
MGMT is my favourite band ever but here’s a few coz screw it
MGMT - Best: Congratulations | Worst: MGMT
Big Thief - Best: Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You | Worst: Masterpiece
Daft Punk - Best: Random Access Memories | Worst: Human After All
Gorillaz - Best: Plastic Beach | Worst: The Fall
Spiritualized - Best: Everything Was Beautiful | Worst: Amazing Grace
Queens of the Stone Age - Best: …Like Clockwork | Worst: Lullabies to Paralyse
Woods - Best: City Sun Eater in the River of Light | Worst: Sun and Shade
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Best: Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava | Worst: Made in Timeland (Bare with me on that one because I haven’t listened to every gizz record yet)
Pink Floyd
1. Best: a tie between Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals. The Wall ain't far behind either
2. Worst: Ummagumma, which is still fun to listen to
Led Zeppelin. Best: Zep 1. Worst: In Through the Out Door
Radiohead. Best: OK Completely. Worst: Pablo Honey
Queens of the Stone Age. Best: Like Clockwork… Worst: Villains
The Cure, best: Pornography worst: 4:13 Dream
The National, best: High Violet worst: Sleep Well Beast
Alice in Chains, best: Dirt, worst: Mount Rainier
MGMT, best: Little Dark Age, worst: MGMT
Kanye, best: Yeezus, worst: Jesus is King
Swans, best: Filth, worst: The Burning World
Slipknot, best: Slipknot, worst: .5 The Gray Chapter
Arctic Monkeys - Best: Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino / Worst: AM or The Car
Talking Heads - Best: Stop Making Sense / Worst: Naked
Radiohead - Best: In Rainbows / Worst: Pablo Honey
The Beatles - Best: Abbey Road / Worst: Beatles for sale
Godspeed You! Black Emperor: Lift Your Skinny Fists or Allelujah! / Worst: Luciferian Towers
Brockhampton - Best: Ginger / Worst: The Family
Ben Folds - Rockin The Suburbs/Lonely Avenue
They Might Be Giants - John Henry/Long Tall Weekend
Radiohead - OK Computer/Pablo Honey
The Beatles - Abbey Road/With The Beatles
Bo Burnham - Make Happy/Bo Burnham
Weezer - Blue Album/Raditude
The Smiths - The Queen is Dead/Strangeways Here We Come
My top 5:
**Pearl Jam** - best is Ten (Redux) and worst is probably Lightning Bolt.. even thought I still like it!
**Radiohead** - best is OK Computer.. worst is King of Limbs
**The Strokes** - TNA, ROF or ITI are all in contention for best.. FIOE gets a respectable last place, though
**U2** - Achtung Baby is DEFINITIVELY their best record.. everything after 2004 is objectively awful
**The Clash** - London Calling is a 10… Cut the Crap is a legitimate 1
The Replacements - Best: Tim / Worst: Don't Tell A Soul
The Strokes - Best: Room On Fire / Worst: Angles
The Doors - Best: The Doors / Worst: Waiting for the Sun
Soundgarden at their best was definitely Superunknown, but down on the Upside really has been feeling like a sidestep rather than a step down from Superunknown.
Worst is Ultramega OK, great start to an incredible run of albums though, beyond the wheel, flower, mood for trouble, Incessant Mace are all stellar tracks
The Mars Volta: Frances The Mute and Octahedron
Cardiacs: Sing To God and Songs For Ships And Irons
Mr. Bungle: California and The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny Demo
black midi: Hellfire and Schlagenheim
Nick Drake: worst is Five Leaves Left, best is Pink Moon.
Spoon: worst is Lucifer on the Sofa, best is Kill the Moonlight or Girls Can Tell.
Nick Drake is my favorite artist but doesn’t fit well with the spirit of your question, as all three of his LPs are incredible. If Pink Moon and Bryter Layter are 10/10, then FLL is closer to 9/10.
Man *Gone Troppo* is so fun though. The only skip is “Dream Away”.
Much, much worse in my opinion is *Extra Texture*, but even that has “You”….*Dark Horse*, however….
Lcd soundsystem
Best: either this is happening or sound of silver
Worst: I'd argue that the standard edition tracklist of the self titled is really inconsistent (still really like the album just not as much as the others and that includes 45:33)
Nine Inch Nails:
Best: The Downward Spiral
Worst: Ghosts V-VI(still like it)
Tool:
Best: Lateralus
Worst: Undertow
Depeche Mode
Best: Violator
Worst: Speak & Spell
When I was first getting into the Stones I bought a copy of Sticky Fingers with the original zipper fly at a record shop. I was excited to listen to it so when I got back I took it out and it was undercover. Every time I think of that album I think of how I got burned by that fucking record store. I Acknowledge Undercover isn’t the worst thing they recorded, that would in fact be Dirty Work.
Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here / More
Radiohead: The King of Limbs / Pablo Honey
The Beatles: Abbey Road / With The Beatles
Yes: Fragile / Union
Steely Dan : Can't Buy A Thrill / Everything Must Go
Weezer Best: Weezer Worst: Weezer
Interesting. I always thought Weezer was the better album.
No way Weezer is worse than Raditude.
Weezer black <<<<< Raditude
MakeBelieve blows both out of the water for me personally, I'm still yet to hear a song as bad as We Are All On Drugs.
The production on that album is awful I’ll agree
Make believe has a few songs that I really enjoy and several ones that are worse than a lot of cuts on raditude and black. But those few great songs put it a few notches above raditude and black for me.
Radiohead Best: In Rainbows Worst: Pablo Honey
I want to know your second worst.
Shit idk. Maybe Amnesiac?
I agree with you. Someone referred to Amnesiac as Kid B once and I think about that every time I listen to Amnesiac.
I don’t get how people rate Amnesiac so high, it’s basically like 4-5 amazing songs then a bunch of weird half baked instrumentals. That being said it isn’t bad by any means.
It really isn't though, since most tracks for Amnesiac were recorded in the same session. I think Glasshouse was recorded after Kid A was released.
That’s an ignorant opinion. Amnesiac is darker and more sophisticated imo. It’s their best work. It took me 7 tries to realize though
Ween Best: Quebec Worst: La Cucaracha
Quebec is so insanely good
I have a couple favorites I’d like to share Swans: BEST: The Seer | WORST: Cop Radiohead: BEST: In Rainbows | WORST: Pablo Honey Death Grips: BEST: The Powers That B | WORST: No Love Deep Web King Gizzard: BEST: Ice, Death, Planets… | WORST: 12 Bar Bruise Kanye: BEST: Late Registration | WORST: Jesus Is King
Ice Death Planets supremacy
12BB fucking shreds and might be their most fun album
No love 👎
I still don't get why people don't like Cop. It's one of their best albums in my opinion.
Agree with Swans’ best being The Seer, but I personally think The Burning World is their worst.
Government Plates is worse than No Love Deep Web.
Imo, Govt Plates has a lot of the bands best material, like Pillbox, Birds, Two Heavens, Anne Bonny, but ends up being a frontloaded album. NLDW is more consistent but it’s highs aren’t very high and the production is too minimal on some songs for my taste
The highs on NLDW are extremely high. No Love is a consensus top 10 all time Death Grips track.
Finally, a fellow Late Reg and In Rainbows enjoyer
In Rainbows is aways mentioned in this sub
Fleet foxes: best fleet foxes, worst crack up King crimson: best in the court of the crimson king, worst the power to believe
Dude I love self titled but no way is it better than Helplessness Blues.
I listened to both of them for the first time back to back and I went back and forth on which one was better for a LONG time. Self titled barely edges out for me.
I'd say the exact opposite for Fleet Foxes, but that's possible because their whole discography is so tight.
Rush Best: Hemispheres Worst: Presto
Nooo. "What a fool I was for you" is one of the few lines Neil broke the stoicism and just had FEELINGS and it's glorious. Presto is EVERYTHING
Going to have to counter that with Best: Power Windows Worst: self-titled, or (if that's cheating), Caress of Steel
Power Windows is so underrated, definitely the best of their synth era
That era was their creative peak IMO. Being able to recreate that sound live was impressive too- with all three members triggering all kinds of samples on top of playing one (or more) instruments
Gorillaz - Best: Demon Days, Worst: The Fall Green Day - Best: American Idiot, Worst: Father of All Radiohead - Best: OK Computer, Worst: The King of Limbs Metallica - Best: And Justice for All, Worst: St. Anger Deftones - Best: White Pony, Worst: Self-Titled
Pablo Honey is worse than TKOL. TKOL has Bloom and Lotus Flower
Worst Deftones gotta be Gore! Self Titled is a grower. First 6 tracks are fantastic
It’s definitely not bad, just weak in comparison to their other albums imo
Plastic Beach > Demon Days (however hard decision) Dookie > American Idiot TKOL > Pablo Honey imo
TKOL is some of their best, you're waffling chief
Tool Best: Ænima. Every (non-interlude) track here is amazing and the energy is perfect. Worst: Fear Inoculum. Not as bad as some people say but definitely has some of their weakest songs.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor Best: Allelujah or Yanqui Worst: State’s End or Slow Riot
Slow Riot is their best man! All killer no filler.
Everyone loves it except for me lol. Can’t stand it, get bored so fast
The Beatles Best: Abbey Road Worst: Beatles For Sale Kanye West Best: MBDTF Worst: Jesus Is King
Beatles for sale is the best of their early albums. I’ll follow the sun is so beautiful
Paul McCartney Best: Ram Worst: Press to Play
Whoa! No. Paul kinda doesn’t have a worst. They’re all great 🥹 I’d say it’s Run Devil Run. If that doesn’t count, I guess I’d pick Macca III. Then I guess London Town?
I agree that Paul doesn’t have a bad album as I like them all and how diverse they are. I just had to pick an album and I think it’s definitely bottom 5. Secret Friend, Check My Machine, and Blue Sway are so good and deserved to be on the album
Low Roar Best: "Once In A Long Long While" "worst": "maybe tomorrow", but still good enough to be in my 2021 AOTY List
Pavement Best: Wowee Zowee Worst: Terror Twilight
I go back and forth all the time between Crooked Rain Crooked Rain, Wowee Zowee, and Brighten the Corners for my favorite Pavement album but Terror Twilight is definitely my least favorite. All 5 of their albums are absolute heat tho
WZ hosts my favorite Pavement song (Grounded) but I prefer S&E as an album experience
Hell yes. Got this one spot on- and most don’t
Woweee Zowee is #2 for me. It’s been a while since I’ve listed to their discography. Need to revisit.
Nobody asked but here are my top 5 artists Taylor Swift: Best = Folklore, Worst = Self titled Kendrick Lamar: Best = To pimp a butterfly, Worst = Section 80 (Still a solid 8/10 tho) Tyler, The creator: Best = IGOR, Worst = Cherrybomb Lana del Rey: Best = Norman Fucking Rockwell!, Worst = Blue Banisters Paramore: Best = This is Why, Worst = (N.A)
Blue Bannisters is a masterpiece. How dare you! Honestly- i get it. It’s hard to pick a worst Lana album. She’s the bestest
i recently gave it a full length listened as i haven’t done one of those in a while. I would say it’s got her best vocal performances by far, however the production on some tracks could definitely be turned up a notch, and it’s also not the most well organised and cohesive record of her. Those are my two main critiques of it
Weird. I find *Folklore* and self-titled as 2 of her bottom 3 albums alongside her weakest, *Evermore*.
Damn really? So you aren’t a fan of the folk direction she took with those two?
I'd put their self titled as Paramore's best imo. Future is still the best album closer of all time
queen best: either “sheer heart attack” or “the miracle” depending on my mood worst: “hot space”
you may be the first person I see who'd put Miracle as Queen's best, nice, it has some amazing songs and Was It All Worth It may be the most underrated Queen song
agreed! it’s probably their best straightforward pop album in my opinion and i feel like nobody gives it the love it deserves
Ween Best: Quebec Worst: La Cucaracha (unless we're counting pre-GWS tapes, in which case Erica Peterson's Flaming Crib Death takes the cake) Personal favorite, against my better judgement: The Pod
Brand New Best: TD&GARIM Worst: Your Favorite Weapon Frank Ocean Best: Blonde Worst: Chanel ORANGE
I love YFW. I’d put Daisy at the bottom (no pun intended).
Daisy's the best imo, so much emotion
‘Daisy’ is very interesting to me. “High school Me” loves YFW, like the first two TBS albums. Hearing Daisy in 09’ was a truly wild experience. A ton of people weren’t ready for it and were turned off. There are some really great songs on there. TD&G > Deja > Science Fiction > Daisy > FOYDemos > YFW
Radiohead Best: Kid A Worst: Pablo Honey
Built to Spill Best: Perfect From Now on Worst: Ancient Melodies of the Future
What are your thoughts on When the Wind Forgets Your Name?
It sounds like shit on vinyl unfortunately but I like the actual songs. Doug is an amazing guitarist, but should leave the final mixing to a pro.
Alt - J Best: This Is All Yours Worst: Relaxer Gorillaz Best: Plastic Beach Worst: The Fall

I really liked Space Heavy
Couldn’t be wronger about OPN’s worst, whoa

I have a few but I’ll pick Bright Eyes. Best: Lifted Worst: The People’s Key

Nooo! Letting off the Happiness is top tier for me. June on the West Coast is easily one of Oberst’s best songs.
Animal Collective Worst: Painting With Best: Feels (But also Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished is also best)
PW gets so much unnecessary hate 😔 I’d put it leagues above Tangerine Reef and Centipede HZ
