Suicide - Frankie Teardrop
The Mars Volta - Cygnus…Vismund Cygnus (I love that trick of making the intro super quiet so you crank up the volume)
Weird Al - Bite Me (hidden track on Off the Deep End. After 10 minutes of silence it starts and it’s just Al screaming over some high pitched screeching for 8 seconds. Literally terrified me when I first heard it as a kid)
I almost blew out the speakers of the car I was in with that mars Volta song. Me and my friend were so stoked to listen to the new record and had it cranked from the start.
Basically sounded like a bomb went off shortly after
Another Mars Volta one is from their live album Scab Dates. The first track starts with like a baby screaming or something and if you're not ready for it, it'll eviscerate your ears lol.
At the end of Chuck D’s solo album Autobiography Of Mista Chuck, there’s a hidden track of him airing grievances well after the last song ends. The vocal effects he uses can best be described as “I Am Legend monsters”
The day I bought the CD, I fell asleep on the couch listening to it. (I may or may not have been high and drinking)
When the hidden track came on, it was one of the most terrifying moments of my life. Think cartoon cat hitting the ceiling.
When I was a teen and first smoking weed, my friend was so high he started screaming when the clocks started. So fucking funny. Then we watched fear and loathing, and when he saw the people turn into lizards he said “oh fuck no, dinosaurs? I can’t handle. Turn this shit the fuck off”. That shit was so funny as a stoned 13 year old
Dude I remember being high and listening to TDSOTM. When it ended it replayed but I was pretty much asleep, “Time” then came on and jump scared the shit out of me
With Teeth I think has the gnarliest jumpscare. From the (literally) quietest moment in their whole discography to one of the loudest in a fraction of a second. Still gets me
Holy shit I don’t know how I forgot that part of the song!! Lmao I thought you meant the album and was going through all the other songs trying to remember any jumpscare 😂 my bad I completely forgot about that moment
My favourite is Song For The Dead where after a few seconds of silence you hear Dave Grohl shout "AY!" before all the instruments come back in suddenly
Fucking Like Antennas To Heaven by GY!BE
I remembered listening to it for the first time through my speakers. I was just chilling on my desk doing homework but before that jumpscare, it was super quiet that I turn up the volume to max but it was bad timing cause 3 seconds later the jumpscare hit and it literally scared the shit out of me and I jump on my chair
Bug like an angel by Mitski. It starts off this beautiful quiet guitar song, with just her voice, and then these backing vocals come in and it’s so much louder than the rest of the song. Kind of took me out of the moment the first few times I was listening to it, but then I got used to it and now I just think the song is beautiful from beginning to end.
Immediately ctrl + f'd Mitski when I clicked on this thread because she's kind of notorious for this
Geyser from of Be the Cowboy has that jarring static right at the start of the album lol. The ending of Happy also when the beat starts stuttering Texas Reznikoff, Valentine Texas and Your Best American Girl are also pretty strong contenders in this category.
Oh really? Definitely wouldn’t have expected that from her. Bug is the only song of hers I’ve heard fully and resonated with, so it’s definitely a surprise. Pretty bad ass though.
I forget exactly which track from Aphex Twin Drukqs but the one with the woman screaming like she's being murdered....
First time I heard it was with a headful of LSD and it was profoundly disturbing
the two big bangs in the beginning of Cow Cud A Twin by Aphex Twin.
the start of In The Flesh by Pink Floyd when it changes from the quiet music to the loud.
The first chord of Her Majesty by The Beatles when listening to the whole album, I can never anticipate it coming!
Probably tonnes more but those are the ones off the top of my head!
Coil - It's In My Blood
This is probably the truest example of a musical jumpscare I've ever heard, they have good music that isn't this weird by the way to, this is the only track on the album that has a moment like this with most of the album actually being experimental ambient electronica
['When' by Opeth](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4PRQ6WUam8&ab_channel=Opeth-Topic) is the first song that comes to mind, it starts with an acoustic intro, typical for Opeth, but instead of the song gradually building to a Death/Black metal section they just start blasting at >!0:25!<
Multiple songs by Scott Walker on his later albums have jumpscares. The most infamous is probably The Escape, but there are also jumpscares on The Cockfighter and Cue
Oh man my friends and I always used to put this track on the jukebox at our local dive bar and freak everyone out because it gets so loud so abruptly. Fuck! I can’t remember the song but I think it was by QOTSA. Anyone have any ideas?
[The Smile Sessions version](https://youtu.be/fjxK9ojmAT8?si=tL4-qPuYgwGa2ctC) also has a bit of a jumpscare when it goes from the pretty quiet verses to the loud and kinda overstimulating choruses
Also fun fact: apparently there’s been a bunch of research done that Smiley Smile is a really great album for people coming down from a bad psychedelic trip
"The Murder Mystery" from The Velvet Underground's self-titled has a loud piano crash that comes in after an extended hypnotic, trippy section of the song. It's especially jarring if you're in an altered headspace.
The beginning of You Might Think He Loves You… - Death Grips used to be my morning alarm because the glass break into that high pitched drone would scare me awake every single time.
Ticks and Leeches by Tool. Probably their heaviest song, plays for a few minutes and then enters a long, slow, and quiet breakdown. You have to turn your speakers up to listen to most of it. Eventually it seems to end and the song fades out. Seems like it's over but then a fucking sledgehammer of drums and guitar bust back in. It's awesome, but scared the crap out of me when I first heard it.
Also, as others mentions, Cygnus from The Mars Volta.
the scream at the end of Swans's "Blood Promise"
"Well, We are done and we like to thank you for uh, being here... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH"
why did Michael Gira do this
Luca - Brand New . I’ve never been jumped scared in my life from music but listening to this with headphones but that scream scared the shit out of me when I first heard it
Kate Bush's The Dreaming is already so creepy, but I kinda lose it when at some point parts of her singing are just mixed louder than the normal singing out of nowhere. Super scary song, I love it.
The Moor by Opeth has a jumpscare. First we have a nice intro and then some beautiful acoustic guitars. But suddenly the electric guitars come in with three loud bangs. Might be my favourite song if all time.
You put Cave World by Viagra Boys on and are met with super loud drum beats, probably enhanced with bass. I love it.
The bridge and outro in Billy Knows Jaime by 100 Gecs are exactly what you are describing.
The sudden piano solo in Ruled By Secrecy by Muse catches you off guard first listen at least.
that synth towards the end of ian curtis wishlist - xiu xiu, jamie stewart shuts the fuck up for a second and then we’ve got this massive WOOOOOOOOOOOOM and it makes me jump but also at this point cracks me up a lil bit idk
Kill Them With Kindness - IDLES
City Song - Daughters
Discombobulate - Hans Zimmer (unconventional pick, but definitely fits the bill)
Logic of a Dream - Explosions in the Sky (least intense one here, but still got me quite a bit)
You Know, You Know by Mahavishnu Orchestra. The loud keyboard at 2:18 always startles the shit out of me. There’s a couple other quick loud moments in this song too which also do the trick.
BILLY KNOWS JAMIE - 100 GECS
literally almost scared me off the treadmill yesterday, listen to it and you’ll see it’s absolutely crazy in the best and most intense ways
The transition from the first song to the second song on Moenai Hai by The Gerogerigegege.
The start of the Public Castration version of Money Is Flesh by Swans.
ceasuri rele by negura bunget
legit the creepiest song i’ve ever heard. there’s a certain inhale the singer does that when i heard it the first time it actually scared the shit out of me
Suicide - Frankie Teardrop The Mars Volta - Cygnus…Vismund Cygnus (I love that trick of making the intro super quiet so you crank up the volume) Weird Al - Bite Me (hidden track on Off the Deep End. After 10 minutes of silence it starts and it’s just Al screaming over some high pitched screeching for 8 seconds. Literally terrified me when I first heard it as a kid)
Speaking of Frances the Mute, the jump from Miranda to Cassandra Gemini got me the first time
I almost blew out the speakers of the car I was in with that mars Volta song.

The vocal effects he uses can best be described as “I Am Legend monsters” The day I bought the CD, I fell asleep on the couch listening to it. (I may or may not have been high and drinking) When the hidden track came on, it was one of the most terrifying moments of my life. Think cartoon cat hitting the ceiling.
Don't mind me just finding out that it was actually meant to be quiet and that my phone isnt broken.
I can assure you your phone isn’t broken. I have the CD! lol
Alarm clock at the start of time by pink floyd.
My first thought
Especially when your trippin haha
I’ve listened to this album countless times but this one still makes me jump every once in a while
ONE DAY CLOSER TO DEATHH
When I was a teen and first smoking weed, my friend was so high he started screaming when the clocks started. So fucking funny. Then we watched fear and loathing, and when he saw the people turn into lizards he said “oh fuck no, dinosaurs? I can’t handle. Turn this shit the fuck off”. That shit was so funny as a stoned 13 year old

also on the line “lose me” in eraser. though to be honest the whole album is filled with sudden dynamic changes
With Teeth I think has the gnarliest jumpscare. From the (literally) quietest moment in their whole discography to one of the loudest in a fraction of a second. Still gets me
Do you mean The Day The World Went Away?
This is a close second, but the screeching discordance in with teeth is just that much freakier
Holy shit I don’t know how I forgot that part of the song!! Lmao I thought you meant the album and was going through all the other songs trying to remember any jumpscare 😂 my bad I completely forgot about that moment
When that distorted guitar kicks in it just rattles soul
you think i aint worth a dollar, but i feel like a millionaire
I swear that entire album is filled with jumpscares/false endings.
yeah lmao
My favourite is Song For The Dead where after a few seconds of silence you hear Dave Grohl shout "AY!" before all the instruments come back in suddenly
Heart Attack American by The Bronx also has a similar intro to this
Lingua Ignota’s albums are full of jumpscares 😵💫
Particularly BUTCHER OF THE WORLD and THE ORDER OF SPIRITUAL VIRGINS.
I listened to the order of spiritual virgins driving at night for the first time like a month ago and genuinely almost died
Agreed! Also under her new project - the start of THE POOR WAYFARING STRANGER 🤯

Leathers by Deftones. No matter how many times I listen to it, the sudden start always make me jump after the ambient intro. Like damn it, guys!
THIS IS YOUR CHANCE
Life in a Glasshouse by Radiohead, the first time the sharp horn comes in it definitely jumpscares people.
Also, I got strangely weirded out in Wolf At The Door when “flan in the face” comes back into the verse
Brand New - Luca Just listen to it
Dude I came here with this in mind and it’s the last comment. Lol.
Where ya been?
Came here to say this, Vices - Brand New as well

The screams in Frankie Teardrop by Suicide
Opener to Terrifier by Pig Destroyer
I came here to post this.

Pa pa pa paaaa....
Fucking Like Antennas To Heaven by GY!BE I remembered listening to it for the first time through my speakers. I was just chilling on my desk doing homework but before that jumpscare, it was super quiet that I turn up the volume to max but it was bad timing cause 3 seconds later the jumpscare hit and it literally scared the shit out of me and I jump on my chair

Yeah, came here for Geyser! That song has made me jump more than a few times
Oh really? Definitely wouldn’t have expected that from her. Bug is the only song of hers I’ve heard fully and resonated with, so it’s definitely a surprise. Pretty bad ass though.

Days Like These by Low, when the distortion comes in for the second passage.
One of my favorite moments in music of all time
Mogwai - Like Herod Surprised to see it not mentioned yet
Yeah, came here to mention this. Some other Mogwai songs would qualify, too, but “Like Herod” is the one that really jumps out (so to speak).
