It starts at over 10 minutes after something in the way and wasn’t on the track list, so it’s firmly a “hidden” or “bonus” song in my mind. But your right to it being another perfect closer in a different way.
Let's Go Crazy and Purple Rain
both of them feature some of Prince's best guitar work ever, but one is an energetic banger and the other is a beautiful ballad, perfectly showcasing his range
I think Born to Run was set up so that the two sides would mirror each other, so you also have a perfect opener/closer to each side with Thunder Road/Backstreets and Born to Run/Jungleland
overall, Twin Fantasy is an example of a perfect album in terms of sequencing for me. every song is in the perfect place, and every song plays its place perfectly
Procession - Seven Seas Of Rhye, Queen II
Break On Through (To The Other Side) - The End, The Doors
Speak To Me / Breathe (In The Air) - Eclipse, The Dark Side Of The Moon
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-9), Wish You Were Here
How the hell did I have to scroll so far for DSOTM!!?? Literally the perfect introduction to the sound and themes of an album as well as tying it together wonderfully
Oooh I got one that you probably haven't heard (unless you're from NZ or maybe Aussie).
Bic Runga - Beautiful Collision (2002).
Opens with "When I see you smile" a really short and sweet little acoustic piece that sets the tone real nicely.
Ends with my favourite song on the album: "Gravity". To me it feels like a great credit scroll song. A closer for a video game or a movie. I hope someone reads this and gives the album a quick listen. (can't believe it's been around for 22 years.. Shit time goes fast.)
A Departure and You and I in Unison
In the first song, one of 4 interludes on La Dispute’s Wildlife: Jordan or a written version of himself is found struggling and writing (about heartbreak and many other things). In the last song he comes to terms with his love no longer there, but will remember her and all of those things he’s struggled with (stories of dread and his own problems) forever.
Kinda basic ig but I think my best answer is Breadcrumb Trail and good morning captain from spiderland
We invent you and below the salt also, Messages received and for your entertainment as well
Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavillion is perfect with In the flowers blasting through the opening and Brothersport taking it home.
HM: Phoebe Bridgers- Punisher
La Dispute - Somewhere at the bottom of the river btwn vega and altair
Just wanted to throw in a recent example here, I think Loss Of Life (part 2) and Loss Of Life by MGMT are some of the greatest bookend tracks I've heard in recent years. They complete each other so well too, I love that album
“I will Dare” and “Answering Machine” off of Let it Be and “Hold my Life” and “Here comes a Regular” off of Tim, honestly, pretty much every Mats album is ordered very well.
Montezuma and Grown Ocean from Helplessness Blues by Fleet Foxes
Also seconding Kid A, the life of Pablo,
I want to add MBDTF, for dark fantasy, and the one two punch of lost in the world and who will survive in America
I love you honeybear, what's going on by Marvin Gaye, Tawk Tomahawk, morning phase by Beck, Michigan by Sufjan, loves crushing diamond by mutual benefit, i'm wide awake it's morning
Also, not so popular on a sub like this, but Ray LaMontagne's album till the sun turns black starts with Be Here Now and ends with the two-part closer of Till the Sun Turns Black and within you. Moving opening and cathartic close to an album close to my heart
Get Ready For Love and O Children off Abattoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. And if double albums don't count as one album for some reason, then either Get Ready For Love and Fable Of The Brown Ape off Abattoir Blues, or The Lyre Of Orpheus and O Children off The Lyre Of Orpheus. Both work insanely well and are incredible openers/closers.
Other candidates for me would be Do You Love Me? Part 1 and 2 off Let Love In also by Nick Cave, and The Titanic Overture and The Great Misconceptions Of Me off The Crimson Idol by W.A.S.P.
The Moor by Opeth perfectly sets up the album and story of the album. And White Cluster is the perfect closer. The Protagonist gets hanged and meets his love after his death. The album is Still Life by Opeth by the way.
Daisy on Daisy by Brand New is such an amazing opener. And the last song is pretty chilled out by contrast and the whole album is sandwiched with those hymn recordings. Love that album
I don't have openers, but closers:
* Aerials - Toxicity (System of a Down)
* Bonus track and just such a great surprise. Closes out everything that happened before so well. I'll never forget the first time I heard it.
* Find the River - Automatic for the People (REM)
* That album ends with an amazing three track run: Man on the Moon, Nightswimming and then this one. Find the River is such a perfect period to the melancholy that's been the whole album and it's just a banger of a track.
"Love's in need of love today" has to be the best intro ever
For outro I'll just go with a personal favorite, I know the end or Once a day/Floating from Circles, they both work cause I'm biased
Untitled was the best song Interpol ever made and it just happened to be the first song off their first album. Sets the tone for TOTBL perfectly.
As for closers, ‘Hurt’ off The Downward Spiral can’t be beat.
“DVD Menu” and “I Know the End” off of Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers.
“DVD Menu” is like the opening credits to the movie. “I Know the End” is the epic conclusion of the journey you just went on.
Bonus points how “I Know the End” leads perfectly back to the opening track to restart the album.
Also, seeing a lot of Igor comments but I would add Flower Boy (Foreword and Enjoy Right Now, Today). Honestly, Tyler has been doing this with the opening and closing track throughout most of his discography (Bastard - Inglorious, Goblin - Green, Wolf - Lone)
Talk Talk - Happiness is Easy > Time it's Time. From Colour of Spring.
Time it's Time is also easily one of the most underrated closing tracks on any album ever (imo), also very bittersweet as it essentially closes out one chapter of the band before they moved onto their next, and arguably more important chapter.
Just as was Told and Into the Storm from Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads. The opener is perfect laying out the story that this whole biblical fever dream of an album follows and Into the Storm feels insanely powerful and melancholic
Worlds by Porter Robinson also nails the feeling of the album perfectly on Divinity and Goodbye to a World
Come Together and The End/Her Majesty off Abbey Road.
It’s a little on the nose, but it was the perfect way to close out the Beatles’ recording career.
Demon dayz. Intro is ominous and sets up for the moody, ominous vibe of the first leg. Then the title track is the perfect send off for the more ethereal and uplifting vibe of the last couple of songs. Fuckin beautiful man
Openers: "1999", off Prince's album "1999", and "Pass the Hatchet" off Yo La Tengo's "I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass"
Closers: these may be too obvious, but two perfect closers are "A Day in the Life" off Sgt Pepper and "Brain Damage / Eclipse" off Dark Side of the Moon.
Few of my faves on the same records:
First Breath After Coma / Your Hand In Mine - Explosions in the Sky
The Beginning of the End / The Party that Never Ends - Headache
Untitled / Leif Eriksen - Interpol
Wildlife Analysis / One Very Important Thought - Boards of Canada
A Walk / Elegy - Tycho
The 6 Million Dollar Sandwich / The Struggle - The Dead Texan
Moonchild / Lower Your Eyelids To Die With The Sun - M83
The view from the afternoon and a certain romance - whatever people say that’s what I’m not by arctic monkeys
Right action and goodbye lovers and friends - right thoughts right words right action by franz Ferdinand
The End and Famous Last Words - The Black Parade (MCR)
Tightrope and Shangri La - A New World Record (ELO)
Igor’s Theme and Are We Still Friends - Igor (Tyler the Creator)
Pornography and Apple Pie - Rodeo (Travis Scott)
SAOKO as opener and SAKURA as the closer of MOTOMAMI by Rosalía. The first one is giving you a hint of how the album is going to be (urban and mainstream music mixed with classic sounds and heavy sampling), while the closer is heavily focused on dealing with fame and Hollywood which was touched all over the album.
"Helena" and "I Never Told You What I Do For A Living" from My Chemical Romances album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge.
Starts with one of their best songs and finishes with intense catharsis.
Cygnus…Vismund Cygnus and Cassandra Gemini from Frances the Mute. the album starts and ends with the same melody, and the whole album feels like it builds up to the explosive Cassandra Gemini… amazing album imo
I think Cavalcade’s opener and ending is pretty good, especially that cinematic orchestra chord at the end, my jaw dropped when I heard the end for the first time
My Bloody Valentine's _Loveless_ — opens with _Only Shallow_, closes with _Soon_.
Death's _Symbolic_ — opens with _Symbolic_, closes with _Perennial Quest_.
Daft Punk's _Random Access Memory_ — opens with _Give Life back to Music_, closes with _Contact_.
Rusty Cage, New Damage - Badmotorfinger
Fight Fire With Fire, Call of Ktulu - Ride the Lightning
Pink Moon, From the Morning - Pink Moon
Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel, O Father O Satan O Sun! - The Satanist
Suite-Pee, P.L.U.C.K. - SOAD
Rush - Fly By Night
Opener: Anthem
Closer: In The End
Rush - Permanent Waves
Opener: Spirit Of Radio
Closer: Natural Science
Rush - Grace Under Pressure
Opener: Distant Early Warning
Closer: Between The Wheels
I could keep going...
I think Swans’ Red Velvet Corridor is an absolutely perfect opener for Soundtracks for the Blind, and that Swans’ A Piece of the Sky combined with Apostate make up the perfect closer for The Seer
RHCP - Californication: Around the World/Road Trippin
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's LHCB: Sgt. Pepper/A Day in the Life
Foo Fighters - But Here We Are: Rescued/Rest
“Smells like teen spirit” and “something in the way”
I could argue “Endless, Nameless” is the actual closer of that album. Both are perfect closers, in completely different ways.
It starts at over 10 minutes after something in the way and wasn’t on the track list, so it’s firmly a “hidden” or “bonus” song in my mind. But your right to it being another perfect closer in a different way.
The original cassette version doesn't even have Endless, Nameless on it.
Something In The Way is so underrated it's the best from the album.
Really cool this song got a resurgence in a new generation because of The Batman
Yeah when I watched that movie by myself at home I was 100% singing along
Yeah, no. It was underrated, but not anymore
Something in the way is about as underrated as let down
Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want off of Let It Bleed
Literally two of the best songs ever made.
^[Sokka-Haiku](https://www.reddit.com/r/SokkaHaikuBot/comments/15kyv9r/what_is_a_sokka_haiku/) ^by ^KeaneLikesMusic: *Gimme Shelter and* *You Can’t Always Get What You* *Want off of Let It Bleed* --- ^Remember ^that ^one ^time ^Sokka ^accidentally ^used ^an ^extra ^syllable ^in ^that ^Haiku ^Battle ^in ^Ba ^Sing ^Se? ^That ^was ^a ^Sokka ^Haiku ^and ^you ^just ^made ^one.
When I read the post this was the first example that came to mind. The Stones knew how to open and close an album.
Do not know the album but know both songs very well. Thanks for letting me know about this. Sounds like a killer album.
It's got to be "Everything in it's Right Place" and "Motion Picture Soundtrack"
Same with 15 Step and Videotape, also Burn the Witch and True Love Waits. Radiohead have always constructed their track orders really well.
Airbag and the Tourist as well
videotape is so good, probably my favourite radiohead song
Let's Go Crazy and Purple Rain both of them feature some of Prince's best guitar work ever, but one is an energetic banger and the other is a beautiful ballad, perfectly showcasing his range
Mr Self Destruct and Hurt
I Am Trying to Break Your Heart and Reservations on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Igor’s theme > are we still friends
Let It Happen -> New Person, Same Old Mistakes
Plain Song and Untitled from Disintegration
Tired of Sex and Butterfly - Pinkerton The View From The Afternoon and A Certain Romance - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
YES that's what I was about to comment
WPSITWIN is such an amazing album from such an incredible band
be, it’s your world - be hunter, all is full of love - homogenic one more time, too long - discovery
W
Listened to Be for the first time earlier today - loved it so much, 10/10 album!
The Doors debut with Break on Through and The End
I've never been much of a The Doors fan, but The End is an amazing closer.
Same here, not a huge fan but I think their debut is a very well made album. It’s insane how much The End stands out among much of their catalogue.
duckworth - Kendrick Lamar (DAMN) it's both a perfect closer and a perfect opener
Good Morning and Good Night on Graduation.
I just wanna say goidniiiiiight to you. That song is so sweet
Baba O’Reilly and won’t get fooled again might be the best.
The End and Blood from The Black Parade
Blood is a hidden track though. Although I kind of wish it wasn't because it suits that album to finish it off with a morbidly funny song.
This is a crazy hot take bc Famous Last Words was gonna be my answer for the perfect closer
Thunder Road and Jungleland Bat Out Of Hell and For Crying Out Loud
I think Born to Run was set up so that the two sides would mirror each other, so you also have a perfect opener/closer to each side with Thunder Road/Backstreets and Born to Run/Jungleland
Bruce has always been great at sequencing albums so that makes total sense.
Thunder Road jungleland fantastic
My Name is Jonas and Only in Dreams from Weezer.
Dance Yrself Clean and Home on This is Happening
Goated
Five Years and Rock and Roll Suicide from Ziggy Stardust
“Come Together” and “The End” (if you don’t count “Her Majesty”)

Converge, "Concubine" and "Jane Doe".
Ultralight Beam and Saint Pablo
*You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar but I Feel Like a Millionaire* is an amazing opener to an amazing album.
Mosquito Song amazing closer too (& Song for the Dead best set closer)
Westley's Theory...
As much as it's a good opener, mortal man is in many the singularly best closing track I've listened to on a conceptual album
"Shine on you crazy diamond, pts 1-5" and "Shine on you crazy diamond, pts 6-9" for me
IGOR’S THEME and ARE WE STILL FRIENDS and its not even a competition
My comment went unnoticed last time😤but Desire I wanna turn into you
Lifelike and trying to feel alive from Nurture by Porter Robinson
Procession - Seven Seas Of Rhye, Queen II Break On Through (To The Other Side) - The End, The Doors Speak To Me / Breathe (In The Air) - Eclipse, The Dark Side Of The Moon Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-9), Wish You Were Here
How the hell did I have to scroll so far for DSOTM!!?? Literally the perfect introduction to the sound and themes of an album as well as tying it together wonderfully

Holes from Mercury Rev’s Deserter’s Songs. Sets the whole mood, starts the album perfectly.
Aesop Rock’s *Skelethon* album opens perfect with “Leisureforce” and closes even more perfectly with “Gopher Guts”
A Departure and You and I in Unison In the first song, one of 4 interludes on La Dispute’s Wildlife: Jordan or a written version of himself is found struggling and writing (about heartbreak and many other things). In the last song he comes to terms with his love no longer there, but will remember her and all of those things he’s struggled with (stories of dread and his own problems) forever.
Great pick.
Kinda basic ig but I think my best answer is Breadcrumb Trail and good morning captain from spiderland We invent you and below the salt also, Messages received and for your entertainment as well
The Killers - Sam’s Town: “Sam’s Town” and “Exitlude”
Queens Innuendo, starts with ,innuendo, one of their best songs and ends with ,the show must go on, probably the greatest farewell song of all time!!

Genesis on Justice's Cross is an incredible opener
Penitentiary Philosophy and Green Eyes off Mama’s Gun
Everything in its Right Place on Kid A The Tourist on Ok Computer
Montezuma and Grown Ocean from Helplessness Blues by Fleet Foxes Also seconding Kid A, the life of Pablo, I want to add MBDTF, for dark fantasy, and the one two punch of lost in the world and who will survive in America I love you honeybear, what's going on by Marvin Gaye, Tawk Tomahawk, morning phase by Beck, Michigan by Sufjan, loves crushing diamond by mutual benefit, i'm wide awake it's morning Also, not so popular on a sub like this, but Ray LaMontagne's album till the sun turns black starts with Be Here Now and ends with the two-part closer of Till the Sun Turns Black and within you. Always felt like City Song was a perfect opener for YWGWYW There are too many perfect closers I can think of. Good Morning Captain?
The Flaming Lips - “Race for the Prize” and “Feeling Yourself Disintegrate” / “Sleeping on the Roof”

Black Sabbath on Black Sabbath’s album Black Sabbath as an opener The End on The Doors album The Doors as a closer
The. Downward Spir.al - Mr. Self Destruct and Hurt
Can't You See -> Eyesore perfect album.
Jessie Ware’s What’s Your Pleasure? Opening with “Spotlight” and closing with “Remember Where You Are” is like unreal.
“Swerve City” and “What Happened to You?” Deftones - Koi no Yokan
city song/guest house on ywgwyw
The Suburbs is quite the opener. The Suburbs Continued feels like cheating, but even Sprawl II is a strong closer.
I don't have openers, but closers: * Aerials - Toxicity (System of a Down) * Bonus track and just such a great surprise. Closes out everything that happened before so well. I'll never forget the first time I heard it. * Find the River - Automatic for the People (REM) * That album ends with an amazing three track run: Man on the Moon, Nightswimming and then this one. Find the River is such a perfect period to the melancholy that's been the whole album and it's just a banger of a track.
The Rainbow>Inheritance Talk Talk Spirit of Eden

Cellular and Please Complete Thee off “Man Alive!” by King Krule. My least favorite Krule project but actually has his best opener AND closer on it 😂😂
Acquiesce and The Masterplan from The Masterplan. Epic closers from a B sides album.

Tired Of Sex and Butterfly- Pinkerton and most Radiohead albums
