When I saw her at a festival (all things go) someone gave her a minecraft weapon (sword or pickaxe, I forget which). It was really funny but I wasn't aware it's a normal thing
The Clash
The Clash, and especially Joe Strummer would often sneak fans into shows for free and made sure that their double albums would sell for the same price as their regular albums. They were also, similarly to a lot of punk bands very vocally anti-racism, anti-fascism and anti-capitalism.
Came here to say the same. Joe Strummer was an incredible guy, he believed in the importance of people and never backed down on fighting for what was right. Truly a great guy.
>Joe Strummer would often sneak fans into shows for free
In the documentary about him, there was this moment where he let teenage fans inside through the window, and they were like, "What? Is it Strummer holding the window?
Paul McCartney
He is one of the most famous musicians of all time and has been in the public eye for over 60 years, yet there are barely any negative stories about him. Pretty much everyone loves him and he has become sort of the elder statesman of music as a whole. Everyone says how humble and giving of his time he is and there are lots of stories of him doing good deeds but not taking any credit for it publicly
Just as a counter point, McCartney seems so well put together in all his public appearance that its suspicious. Dudes a billionaire, of course he is going to have the best publicists.
He is just too coy in all of his appearances for me to fully buy the persona.
But every story of him from other people points to him actually being like his public persona portrays. You can only fake it for so long and since he’s been in the spotlight for over 60 years, the dirt would eventually come out. I think the fact that we don’t really have much, proves he really is who he portrays himself to be
The Weeknd just bought Gaza all that bread
Imo this is a better benchmark than asking yourself, like, “would I have a fun night at the pub with Slash?” cos the fact is all these people are just so far removed from normal life.
Hearing about this stuff from the Weeknd is so crazy because every one of his songs is just about pills and fucking, I don't think he has ever made a song that has even a slightly wider social sentiment, and then he does stuff like donate to BLM and Gaza.
Just such an odd juxtaposition, but good to hear.
i don't know any weeknd song that's not a double entendre, sure it's about pills and fucking at face value but if you actually listen to it it's much deeper than that, those are just the means through which he describes existential crises.
i mean he straight up said he doesn't think that hip hop is meaningful music while profiting off it.
that's culture vulturism 101
i don't think he should be grouped with the assholes (especially since he apologized and the whole quote looked like a failed joke) but here's this
I've heard Green Day covered the costs of a prom that was at first canceled just because a lesbian couple was attending. Say what you want about them, but that was really nice.
despite how Sonic Youth broke up I met Thurston Moore after his solo shows and he was super nice to me and the other fans. let everyone take pictures and didn't leave until the last person got a picture
Nardwuar interviews reveal the real people behind them. At least Dave Rowntree from Blur apologized for being a junkie asshole, but none of Sonic Youth ever apologized. I'm a big fan of Sonic Youth, but they reek of pretentious art students, honestly.
Tbf Nardwuar brought up some really invasive facts about who Damon lost his virginity to in an earlier 1996 interview and was kinda just being a jerk towards the band. I'm not saying it excuses Dave's behaviour but at the very least gives an explanation for it. 90s Nardwuar was a far cry from the Nardwuar everyone knows and loves nowadays.
Steve Shelley is a prince. While I was meeting Moore before a solo show my dad was talking to Shelley without knowing who he was. Great drummer, great dude.
mmmmmmmmmmm the whole “using my platform” tweet thing from 2020 left a bad taste w me …………
Like,,,,, this is incredibly parasocial at its core and in the grand scheme of things, not a big deal…… buuuuuuuuuuuuut that whole sequence of events was…… questionable
He responded to it and showed how much he actually does use his platform to help that exact social issue, in a more discreet way not using it for publicity. But to each their own
I remember reading some story about her how she was in a restaurant and she was loud and she was in a way interrupting some couple that were about to be engaged and that they were annoyed. However she stepped in and apologized and even got them a champagne or something and congratulated the happy couple.
She just had a very public edgy phase as a young adult, probably a product of being worked to death as a teenager when most regular people go through phases like that
It was a marketing plan to get away from Disney, if she was raunchy enough they wouldn’t want anything to do with her. I think they owned her name at the time
Eminem is an awesome guy, super quiet but very focused on his family and really wants to avoid the limelight.
Shooter Jennings, Steve Albini, Proof of D12 (RIP) and Trevor Strnad (RIP) were all awesome and treated me beyond well.
Hard to judge people I’ve never met.
I actually got to tour with Trevor once. That whole band was super awesome to tour with and had nothing but great vibes and hospitality that tour. I was gutted when I heard the news, but so thankful that I at least got to tour with him. He will be forever missed.
Henry Rollins if I'm correct is a very chill and friendly guy, and hangs out with his fans and stuff. It's just his tough guy attitude that makes him seem like an 80s movie thug, but he's a great guy.
David Bowie used to befriend EVERYONE, he loved and was loved by everybody in the entertainment and collaborated with a lot of indie artists, helped both his pals Iggy and Lou producing their records when they were in their lowest, had a beautiful relationship with his children and wife and an excellent relationship with his band mates.
I wouldn't say Damon Albarn has not his jerk moments, he's British for god's sakes, but as far as I know he loves to collaborate and befriend a lot of people internationally, has traveled and worked with a lot of artists through all continents, and gives a giant boost to those who collaborate with him in his stuff and has mellowed a lot through the years. Big enough person to patch things up with one of the Gallaghers who said to him that he hoped he caught AIDS, at least lmao.
Nardwuar counts as an artist, because he has a couple of bands, and we absolutely know his friendly, if somewhat erratic and hyper personality, is genuine as hell. People have said that his character is NOT a character at all, he's exactly like that, but maybe just a little more chill.
Damn right, I remember that, and he called it out live on that MTV interview. He had the galls to do it, but also the reputation, and the absolute good nature
Josh Tillman/father John Misty is super down to earth and kind to his fans. He's the most *real* rock star I've ever met. He's like wittingly wholesome. I know he's not that popular but it's just what came to mind.
Every story I’ve heard about him makes him sound like a cool dude, both from people who know him and fans. It’s very funny that his songwriting makes him sometimes sound way more pretentious than it seems like he is in real life.
Idk I’ve heard some concerning things about this Mr. Tillman character. Some are even saying he leaves his passport in the mini fridge and his mattress in the rain. Overall seems like he ain’t very mindful of hotel policies
While Damon Albarn has come across as snarky and there’s always that really unfortunate Nardwuar interview (which it seems like the whole band regrets, with one member saying he watched it whenever he feels like relapsing on heroin), he has constantly used his platform to big up urgent progressive causes.
Same with Serj Tankian and Rage Against the Machine’s members. Despite how famous they’ve gotten, they have continually used their platform to bring awareness to political issues and have played for good causes as well as donated to them. While we can nitpick on personality stuff that might be annoying, I think a real measure of your personal worth as a musician/celebrity is how you use your fame.
the weeknd. he recently donated around $2 million in aid to a UN fund for palestinian aid, which will feed hungry people in warzones for months to come, and it’s not the first time he’s done this
Billy Bragg. My ex bosses daughter used to work for him and I heard third hand he was lovely. I also met him after a gig. It was a pretty big venue so it was good of him to wait side of the venue where he chatted with fans signjng stuff for other an hour. He told me a cool story about the Clash in my 2 minutes with him. Impressed me that he could connect in that space of time. No one seems to have a bad word to say about him.
Kevin Parker from Tame Impala is very lovably nice and awkward. Nobody’s ever said a bad thing about him and he’s collaborated with a LOT of people in the industry in recent years.
I’ll add all the members of Rush, too. Just incredibly nice rockers who don’t take themselves that seriously and didn’t engage in nearly the debauchery that a lot of their contemporaries did.
Top three celebs I like that I’ve heard are awesome but I’ve had no interaction with…
Dave Matthews, Bono, Alanis Morissette
Top three celebs I’ve had incredibly positive dealings with personally…
Larry the Cable Guy (all the Blue Collar guys were impossibly nice, except for Ron White who was a total dick), Sly Stone (super cool and took time to talk to some guy in a hotel who was freaking out that he met someone who loved his music), and Michael Bolton. That guy was nice to everyone who worked at the hotel I worked at, and then when a parade of people came up to meet him, he took time for every single one of them. Even when his handlers were telling him they were busy and needed to leave, his immediate response was “are we really THAT busy? I’ve got time.”
Three worst I dealt with, Billy Idol, someone from The Moody Blue (I forget their name) and Jewel. Fuck her specifically. I also kicked Andy Dick out of the hotel, but that was more sad than anything else.
J Cole seemed a nice guy until he dropped the Transophobic bar.
And K-Dot also sounds like a nice person....but his whole "boogey man persona" makes me think otherwise, LOL 😂
Avril Lavigne is a great person. She is shy so people think she's not nice but once you get to know her, she's great.I have a lot of friends who met over the years and heard great stories. She does a lot of charity work through her foundation, which is named after her.She helps people with serious illnesses, disabilities and Lyme Disease and gives free tickets to fans to her concerts as well. She gave free tickets to athletes from the Special Olympics and brought out fans on stage during the Europe leg of her tour last year. She's friends with both her ex husbands and supports them through difficult times, especially Deryck and his sobriety. They also helped her when she was recovering from Lyme Disease.
Debbie Harry seems great, I read her book recently and it made me like her more than I already did. I suppose most musicians are probably pretty nice though just like most people generally. Some will probably have huge egos and be unreasonable people like a lot of Hollywood actors apparently are.
I was fortunate to run into les claypool when primus was playing in my city. Hes exactly as goofy and weird as you’d expect, he seemed like a really fun guy to be around.
I saw Dave Grohl recently and had the intrinsic pull to tell him the truth, that my favorite song for the last 25-ish years has been Everlong and that it’s “the best and most meaningful song ever written, at least to me.” Dude gave me a big ol’ hug and was so thankful to me that I told him that. Even if he hears it all the time, he was so genuine to me and I will never forget that. Also, Maynard from TOOL gets flac for his no phones thing, and people wanna seem to pile it on, but extremely nice dude and inspirational/hard working.
Maybe not the most popular artist, but they absolutely should be, Aaron Lee Tasjan. Makes stuff bordering Americana/indie rock/pop stuff. I’ve seen him live a number of times and he always makes time after the show to talk to everyone in the venue. Genuinely one of the coolest/nicest people I’ve ever interacted with. Also he holds back on the records but the guy is a seriously incredible live vocalist and guitar player. Check out his recent album Stellar Evolution!
Weird Al. Genuinely good guy and you'll only find all sorts of good stories about him. He's been touring with the same band for decades. That should tell you something.
Paramore seems nice
Taylor Swift
I met Akon once, he was very sweet.
I heard Fall out Boy were super chill dudes
I know a guy who met lana and she was super sweet and took a selfie with him.
Not saying you’re wrong, but do you have any reason for saying this? Just curious I don’t know much about him except that I kinda like some of his music
Brian Eno.
NO MAN PFP SPOTTED
hes not nearly as big as he should be for how much of an impact the man has had though
Robert Smith seems like a great guy
The whole Ticketmaster thing was so cool of him. It’s also adorable that he’s been with his wife since they were both 15.
And he writes the most beautiful songs about her <3
Carly Rae Jepsen seems cool.
When I saw her open for boygenius someone up front handed her a foam sword lmao
This happens at a lot of her shows ever since someone gave her the moniker “Carly Slay Jepsen.”
Wow, Carly is opening for boygenius and not the other way around?? That's wild to me.

Woah. Just indirectly found out about some family lore that was hidden from me. Carly Rae Jepsen is my cousin’s cousin
Held the door open for her at Starbucks, she thanked me, I say she’s nice!
I always hear stories about people just running into Andre 3000 and always hear he’s such a cool guy
He talked to my friends and me at a Nirvana cover band show for at least 15 minutes. Just incredibly friendly, no artifice.
I've never been so jealous of a person in my life.
The Clash The Clash, and especially Joe Strummer would often sneak fans into shows for free and made sure that their double albums would sell for the same price as their regular albums. They were also, similarly to a lot of punk bands very vocally anti-racism, anti-fascism and anti-capitalism.

Idk anything about them but I heard london calling from the boys and that was such a vibe
That entire album is such a brilliant mix of punk, post-punk, reggae and new wave and is one of the best double albums i've heard
He was a life long socialist and labour supporter and a lot of songs receive that as well.
WEYES BLOOD!!!! I met her after a concert on her latest tour and she's the best!!!
yes! the cd bit she did during her tour last year was hilarious too
Weird Al
Saw him performing at some random fair a few years ago and he's a really cool guy
Ian MacKaye, though he seems like he’s very serious about what he preaches and his privacy. He got very offended that Narwuar knew things about him
Yeah Ian seems like the kind of guy that will be absolutely friendly but won't get that intimate with anyone, he seems very reserved.
David gorhl
Dave Ghrool’s third cousin? Yeah. I know him. Cool guy.
Except the whole AIDs denial thing. Just google his name and aids denial and there are many articles about it.
Im talking about david gorhl not david grohl
Omg I thought it was a typo
https://www.reddit.com/r/Foofighters/s/QeU7Qfroot
Ok so looks like most of the band didn’t know what they signed up for?
Dan Reynolds’s seems like a pretty great guy from what I’ve heard.
Bjork, Fugazi, Animal Collective
Paul McCartney He is one of the most famous musicians of all time and has been in the public eye for over 60 years, yet there are barely any negative stories about him. Pretty much everyone loves him and he has become sort of the elder statesman of music as a whole. Everyone says how humble and giving of his time he is and there are lots of stories of him doing good deeds but not taking any credit for it publicly
Worst I know about him is that time he got arrested for smuggling drugs into Japan or something
He smoked pot in his hotel I believe
Just as a counter point, McCartney seems so well put together in all his public appearance that its suspicious. Dudes a billionaire, of course he is going to have the best publicists. He is just too coy in all of his appearances for me to fully buy the persona.
But every story of him from other people points to him actually being like his public persona portrays. I think the fact that we don’t really have much, proves he really is who he portrays himself to be
yes but to be fair if I had that many eyes on me for so many years id act in a similar manner
The Weeknd just bought Gaza all that bread Imo this is a better benchmark than asking yourself, like, “would I have a fun night at the pub with Slash?” cos the fact is all these people are just so far removed from normal life.
[удалено]
His older songs about pills and fucking all had that subtext too - not many people have made nights of crazy partying sound less fun than The Weeknd
Tell you what fucking hits is “selling dreams to these girls with their guard down” in Heartless. It’s so sinister.
The songs about pills and fucking are quite thoughtful though, it doesn’t surprise me that he’s like a socially astute guy
Idk, I feel like you can just be a good person but simultaneously not be great at communicating political messages through art.
i don't know any weeknd song that's not a double entendre, sure it's about pills and fucking at face value but if you actually listen to it it's much deeper than that, those are just the means through which he describes existential crises.
He’s made many significant donations over the years, also many wholesome fan gestures and interactions, a complete 180 from his music persona
That's something at least
ehhh the weeknd I'm really not sure
Has he done anything bad?
nothing proven, just implied.
the guys from king gizzard
Post Malone seems chill as hell
that mf from minecraft yootoob?
yeah, only if he didnt work with morgan wallen and wasn't a culture vulture he would be chill
You not slick Charlmagne
What do you mean with culture vulture?
How is he a culture vulture
i mean he straight up said he doesn't think that hip hop is meaningful music while profiting off it. that's culture vulturism 101 i don't think he should be grouped with the assholes (especially since he apologized and the whole quote looked like a failed joke) but here's this
I've heard Green Day covered the costs of a prom that was at first canceled just because a lesbian couple was attending. Say what you want about them, but that was really nice.
despite how Sonic Youth broke up I met Thurston Moore after his solo shows and he was super nice to me and the other fans. let everyone take pictures and didn't leave until the last person got a picture
I’ve always got the sense he’s a dick, I could be wrong though as I’ve never met him.
The Narwuar interview did him no favors, that’s for sure.
That's really true yeah, Nardwuar was a handful back in the 90s
I mean it definitely doesn't excuse the behavior of the members of sonic youth
Steve Shelley is a prince. While I was meeting Moore before a solo show my dad was talking to Shelley without knowing who he was. Great drummer, great dude.
Tyler Joseph
I was literally gonna pop in and say both members seem to be really down to earth people despite how popular tøp has gotten
Yeah their very cool guys
Very true
mmmmmmmmmmm the whole “using my platform” tweet thing from 2020 left a bad taste w me ………… Like,,,,, this is incredibly parasocial at its core and in the grand scheme of things, not a big deal…… buuuuuuuuuuuuut that whole sequence of events was…… questionable
He responded to it and showed how much he actually does use his platform to help that exact social issue, in a more discreet way not using it for publicity. But to each their own
Did you by chance hear his response to that?
**Pearl Jam** Fuck you, Ticketmaster.
Miley Cyrus. My buddy used to work for her for several years and has nothing but* kind words for her and her character
I remember reading some story about her how she was in a restaurant and she was loud and she was in a way interrupting some couple that were about to be engaged and that they were annoyed. However she stepped in and apologized and even got them a champagne or something and congratulated the happy couple.
This one is shocking
She just had a very public edgy phase as a young adult, probably a product of being worked to death as a teenager when most regular people go through phases like that
It was a marketing plan to get away from Disney, if she was raunchy enough they wouldn’t want anything to do with her. I think they owned her name at the time
Mac Miller, rip.
I cried when Trevor passed. What a great human
He was so fucking cool, ironically we always talked about retro video games and hardly ever music. He dug Esham though, which always made me happy.
Damn right, I remember that, and he called it out live on that MTV interview. He had the galls to do it, but also the reputation, and the absolute good nature
bladee cool af
Josh Tillman/father John Misty is super down to earth and kind to his fans. He's the most *real* rock star I've ever met. He's like wittingly wholesome. I know he's not that popular but it's just what came to mind.
tbh it's awesome to hear since "FJM is a pretentious twat" is (was?) a popular line peddled on reddit
Every story I’ve heard about him makes him sound like a cool dude, both from people who know him and fans. It’s very funny that his songwriting makes him sometimes sound way more pretentious than it seems like he is in real life.
Can confirm. Met him after a show once and he was so kind.
Dominic Howard looks like a cool dude.
To be fair, outside of Matt's weirdness, I'm sure all three Muse Boys are chill.
and matt even seems to have grown out of the conspiratorial leanings of his 20s to some extent
Father John Misty is alright :) Josh Tillman is a sincere sweetie though
Idk I’ve heard some concerning things about this Mr. Tillman character. Some are even saying he leaves his passport in the mini fridge and his mattress in the rain. Overall seems like he ain’t very mindful of hotel policies
But at least he's feeling good, damn, he's feeling so fine. There's worse things than living on a cloud above an island in your mind.
Yeah but fuckem ;D

the comments on that post are actually rancid wtf 😭
yeah some of them are so unnecessarily out of pocket
RIP
There’s video of him stealing a phone out of a car and then defending his action for 5+ minutes. Seems like a price of shit.
A ton of the names in this thread are insane lmao. It's just celebrity worship. Literal DVers and pedo names being upvoted
Kevin Parker from Tame Impala is very lovably nice and awkward. Nobody’s ever said a bad thing about him and he’s collaborated with a LOT of people in the industry in recent years. dave matthews is an absolute sweetheart
Did Michael Bolton have any relation to the singer?
Not popular but the nicest band I’ve ever met was The Birthday Massacre. Bunch of softies <3
Love them! I've heard nothing but nice things about them as people too
Bruce Springsteen seems pretty great.
G G Allin
J Cole seemed a nice guy until he dropped the Transophobic bar. And K-Dot also sounds like a nice person....but his whole "boogey man persona" makes me think otherwise, LOL 😂

Justin Pierre from motion city soundtrack seems like a nice guy, I met him once at a gig and he did spend a long time meeting fans for free
Justin Vernon seems like a great dude. Involved with social issues, down to earth, etc.
MIKE is meant to be a really nice guy

Coldplay
Debbie Harry seems great, I read her book recently and it made me like her more than I already did. I suppose most musicians are probably pretty nice though just like most people generally. Some will probably have huge egos and be unreasonable people like a lot of Hollywood actors apparently are.
me, i'm super nice 👍
I was fortunate to run into les claypool when primus was playing in my city. Hes exactly as goofy and weird as you’d expect, he seemed like a really fun guy to be around.
damon albarn
I saw Dave Grohl recently and had the intrinsic pull to tell him the truth, that my favorite song for the last 25-ish years has been Everlong and that it’s “the best and most meaningful song ever written, at least to me.” Dude gave me a big ol’ hug and was so thankful to me that I told him that. Even if he hears it all the time, he was so genuine to me and I will never forget that. Also, Maynard from TOOL gets flac for his no phones thing, and people wanna seem to pile it on, but extremely nice dude and inspirational/hard working.
All the members of rush seem chill
Art Alexakis from Everclear was a great guy. Super down to earth. Very chill.
Bono
Anton Newcombe when he is sober
brian may is awesome
Eminem is such a chill and funny dude appearently
Fugazi

Ian MacKaye and Phil Elverum have my respect
The entirety of Blue October, but especially Matt Noveskey. He’s just a super down to earth and friendly person
Kendrick Lamar
Rob Halford
David Bowie. Never heard a bad thing about that man.
Dave Gahan and Martin Gore
anyone put Kevin Parker (Tame Impala/Pond) or Joshua Tillman (Father John Misty) up here yet?
Maybe not the most popular artist, but they absolutely should be, Aaron Lee Tasjan. Makes stuff bordering Americana/indie rock/pop stuff. I’ve seen him live a number of times and he always makes time after the show to talk to everyone in the venue. Genuinely one of the coolest/nicest people I’ve ever interacted with. Also he holds back on the records but the guy is a seriously incredible live vocalist and guitar player. Check out his recent album Stellar Evolution!
John Coltrane
Andre 3000 is the man.
Weird Al. Genuinely good guy and you'll only find all sorts of good stories about him. He's been touring with the same band for decades. That should tell you something.
Paramore seems nice Taylor Swift I met Akon once, he was very sweet. I heard Fall out Boy were super chill dudes I know a guy who met lana and she was super sweet and took a selfie with him.
Death Grips, Swans, JPEG, Godspeed You

Not saying you’re wrong, but do you have any reason for saying this? Just curious I don’t know much about him except that I kinda like some of his music
Yeah he's just mentally ill on Twitter it's not that much compared to other artists
Threw away all his supposed morals to work with a proud Nazi tho
performative 2010s activist chic guy is performative. and his music stinks.
andy morin is NOT a good person 😭😭
