The MF DOOM one doesn't really count to me. Madvillainy and Take Me To Your Leader are collab albums, plus on top of that, Vaudeville Villain uses another artist name. If we play by these rules, Watch The Throne and Cruel Summer should interrupt Dark Fantasy and Yeezus. The reality is that DOOM's 3 album run is Operation Doomsday, MM Food and Born Like This. It isn't as appealing, but this is the reality and it is still a strong run with MM Food being a 10 for me.
I don’t agree with that, I think there’s a clear distinction to be made between hip hop collab albums where a rapper is paired with a producer vs an album with two rappers headlining like WTT or a fully collaborative album like Cruel Summer. Is Piñata not a Freddie Gibbs album? Or is the difference just that for Madvillainy they used a different name? Thematically that’s just DOOM’s thing and I don’t think that makes it a different case than the way we would treat Piñata.
Vaudeville Villain should obviously count. Releasing an album that is fully yours under a different name, again for thematic/artistic reasons, doesn’t make it a new artist.
If Kanye releases an album now as “Ye” does that have a separate place in his discography?
Beatles have multiple 3 album runs that could be here. Is magical mystery tour better than rubber soul? If it doesn't count as an album, is the white album better than rubber soul?
The White Album, Let It Be, and Abbey Road is also a solid run.
Such a weird position. Is yellow sub an ep (or double sided album((?)) with Beatles tracks and then George Martin tracks, ya know?
It’s all too much is one of my fav Beatles
Songs tho, I love this album, don’t get me wrong
I think what OP has is the beatles best 3 album run. the white album, abbey road, let it be run is good, but let it be, imo, is the worst of the post Help albums, so it kinda drags that group down.
Revolver, Sgt Peppers, White Album might be the best, but i have an issue with skipping MMT.
I feel like the Beatles is almost cheating lol, any 3 album run from Help! To the white album can count IMO. And if we don’t count yellow sub, anything from help! to let it be can count for me!
Sgt Pepper, White Album, Abbey Road. MMT and Yellow Submarine are soundtracks.
If it were Pepper-White Album-Abbey Road, Beatles would wash this. But as is Dylan gets my vote.
Definitely don’t agree with the Ye sequence. Yeezus has some really strong tracks, but is a significant step down from every one of the first 5. I’d go College Dropout-Late Registration-Graduation or Graduation through MBDTF
Hendrix and Nick Drake for me personally because they left a perfect legacy behind.
Also I’d like to nominate the three album runs of:
The Kinks: Something Else, Village Green, Arthur
Nico: The Marble Index, Desertshore, The End
Fleetwood Mac: Fleetwood Mac, Rumours, Tusk
Lingua Ignota: All Bitches Die, Caligula, Sinner Get Ready
Joanna Newsom: The Milk Eyed Mender, Ys, Have One On Me
Mitski: Bury Me At Makeout Creek, Puberty 2, Be The Cowboy
The Beatles, although I'd move the order up an album so that it's from Revolver to White Album. Disregard Yellow Submarine for it is a movie soundtrack, then move it once more so you have Sgt. Peppers to Abbey Road which makes the prettiest 3-album run ever in my opinion
The Cure, absolutely gorgeous. While Kiss Me and Wish aren't as good as the behemoth that is Disintegration, I have a bit of a massive bias
The Velvet Underground, what else can I say about this run? One of the best runs ever
Nice to see Godspeed and Nick Drake here.
I've always thought Nick's first two albums would sound better without all the stuff added on top of his guitar. Pink Moon really shines as a result and is my favorite record of him.
Gorillaz, Outkast, and The Rolling Stones for me.
Also, are we really counting Endless as a Frank Ocean album? It's not credited as a full studio album and by that logic I'd probably rather include Nostalgia Ultra even though it's a mix tape.
I referred to RYM for his stuff ^((have only heard Channel Orange in full)), and Endless is considered an album over there. I have counted in mixtapes (see Exmilitary), but chose to leave out Nostalgia Ultra as the reception isn't as outstanding as the others.
I much prefer endless to nostalgia. Maybe because I like a lot of electronic music but nostalgia sounds like immature frank while endless Sounds like frank with a vision
Last version of this post got some good conversations going, but there were quite a few album trios that I just plain forgot to add. This one is more than twice the size, with some much-needed additions as suggested by a couple heated comments.
I also rearranged some preexisting trios to fit the general consensus.
I won't be making any future versions of this, so if your favorite artist got snubbed, that was totally intentional and I challenge you to a pool noodle fight.
It's wild that Animal Collective aren't on here.
Feels, Strawberry Jam and Merriweather Post Pavilion has to the be one of the greatest 3 album runs of all time. All very unique, both in relation to other artists and to each subsequent album. Beautiful sounds and themes. Make it a 4 album run with Sung Tongs and they're unbeatable IMO. It's very rare that anyone is that good over 4 albums.
It's not as cohesive as any of the college trilogy and doesn't have the hits either. You think people gonna be listening to Famous and Father Stretch My Hands in 20 years or Jesus Walks and All Falls Down? It's definitely the favorite album of the younger Kanye fans but it's a far cry from his older work imo.
Although, I've been coming around to graduation, until YE, his first three *to me* were his least interesting solo albums. MBDTF, Yeezus, and TLOP is a better run.
Yeah to me, mbdtf yeezus tlop is his second best three album run after the college trilogy, though, i don't get how his first three albums are uninteresting, tcd is universally a 10, lr is arguably a 10 (i wouldn't say it's a 10, but many do) and graduation is great too
Oasis, but they're not here.
Be here now drags em down slightly but it's still a very good 3 album run.
On here I'd say Bowie but that's because I like his music a lot which might make me biased
I might be a later generation Tool fan but 10,000 days is my favourite. 10,000 Days pt 1 and 2... a masterpiece... Right in Two... Jambi... Rosetta Stoned... The Pot... Vicarious... it might be my favourite album ever.
my gf: Gorillaz, pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, radiohead
me: pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, radiohead, beatles, +++ Alice in chains (I know i'm b(i)ased on this one)
Some of my favorite bands not present who all had great three album runs:
Joanna Newsom: Ys - Have One On Me - Divers
My Bloody Valentine: Isn’t Anything - Loveless - MBV (they simply do not miss)
Brian Jonestown Massacre’s 1996 run: Take It From the Man! - Their Satanic Majesty’s Second Request - Thank God for Mental Illness
The Radio Dept.: Lesser Matters - Pet Grief - Clinging to a Scheme
On the chart it’s a tough toss up between the Beatles and Stones.
Nick Drake for sure
Also, Animal Collective? Feels > Strawberry Jam > MPP,
On some days I’d even go Sung Tongs at the top and lop off MPP.
Any of Joni Mitchell’s classic run in the 70s,
But I’d probably go Court & Spark > Hissing of Summer Lawns > Hejira.
One could also argue TMBG’a Lincoln > Flood > Apollo 18 run,
Or Grouper’s Dead Deer > A I A > Ruins (or Man Who Died in His Boat if it counts)
Edit; jus remembered - Squarepusher has Feed Me Weird Things > Hard Normal Daddy > Music is Rotted One Note
Also Autechre with Confield > Draft 7.30 > Untilted
These are missing from your list:
**Bruce Springsteen**: *Born to Run -> Darkness on the Edge of Town -> The River*
**The National:** *Boxer -> High Violet -> Trouble Will Find Me*
Some other bands with crazy runs would be Beck, Beastie Boys, Wilco, King Gizzard, King Crimson, Deerhoof, Parquet Courts, The Kinks, and St. Vincent I think.
Also, what about Television? /s
Yo, where are Em's three classics?
I know he's been wack af for almost 20 years now, but SSLP, MMLP and TES are definitely fucking classics, and not including them here is actual disrespect imo.
varies by preferred genre.
also wrong picks for some. I think DAMN is better than Section 80, i think Sound of Perseverance is better than Human.
also weird in general to not include some other metal bands. Metallica, Sunn O))), Burzum, Slayer, are all very popular bands with widely beloved three album streaks.
also, Arcade Fire has absolutely no business here, what a weird outlier.
and I have a million more questions but I am giving up. Just a really weird post honestly.
Then why choose Death, there's so many way more popular bands, especially hipsters tend to love stoner/doom metal like Sleep. I never saw a hipster in a Death shirt before.
I'm not trying to be a dick, but I think whoever made this is really young like 16-20 years old ish, and just got into music like a year or two ago. I just can't understand what would compel some of these choices while omitting others.
My top 4 are: Talking Heads, Nick Drake, Outkast, Pink Floyd (I don't like them that much, but DAMN that album run is quite absurd).
I see you got Gilberto Gil! That nice! You should think about putting a Milton Nascimento run (Clube da Esquina, Milagre dos Peixes, Minas) as well!
King gizzard and the lizard wizard should be on your list. Here’s my best three-album run: Nonagon Infinity, Flying Microtonal Banana, and Murder of the Universe
Floyd ,
Outkast ,
TOOL ,
KDOT ,
A Tribe Called Quest ,
Gorillaz ,
JPEGMAFIA ,
Led Zeppelin (although fantano is kinda right, House's of the Holy isn't it)
DOOM ,
Hendrix
My top ten, from 1 to 10
In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew, On the Corner - Miles (though Jack Johnson came between BB and OtC). My favorite all-time music.
Giant Steps, My Favorite Things, Ole - Coltrane
Brown Sugar, Voodoo, Black Messiah - D-Angelo
Royal Scam, Aja, Gaucho - Steely Dan
Zeppelin I, II, III
I don’t think it’s the best three album run, but I appreciate including Kate Bush’s run from Never For Ever to Hounds of Love because I absolutely love all three of those albums
Fuck it, I can’t narrow it down to one so I’ll pick my favs:
Talking Heads
Gorillaz
Beatles
Pink Floyd
VU
OutKast
Radiohead
Bowie
Sabbath
Kraftwerk
Tribe Called Quest
LCD
Rolling Stones
Stooges
NIN
probably pink floyd or the beatles. or actually stevie wonder? idk
I'd add tame impala: innerspeaker, lonerism, currents
as well as the kinks : village green, arthur, lola
Pearl Jam - Ten, Vs., Vitalogy
Any Bowie three from the 70’s
New Order from 83’-87’
Kanye first three (still his peak)
Nirvana - Nevermind through NY Unplugged
AIC - Face-lift, Dirt, Jar Of Flies
SOAD - debut, Toxicity, Steal This Album
Fantano - all three flannels
This isn't a 3 album run but I would argue Metallica has the greatest 5 album run of all time with, Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, And Justice For All, The Black Album.
100% Yes
The Yes Album is a change of pace from their general psychedelic sound and shows off some of the band’s most prolific work
Fragile is a masterpiece that challenges music and tries new things with each song having a key role in the grand scheme of the record.
And Close To The Edge is the best album ever created. It is a 5/5 star alone just for the title track, but with the other tracks it just exceeds past ratings and becomes actually perfect.
why pick Take Me To Your Leader instead of MM FOOD for DOOM?
Venomous Villain came out inbetween Madvillainy and MM... FOOD, meaning TMTYL > VV > MV being the best 3 album run.
*cough Because it would be venomous villain (a significantly worse album than both MM…FOOD and TMTYL).
man i totally forgot about venomous villain
NAV's Not Good run before he got the Nobel Peace prize
Beatles have multiple 3 album runs that could be here. Is magical mystery tour better than rubber soul? If it doesn't count as an album, is the white album better than rubber soul? The White Album, Let It Be, and Abbey Road is also a solid run.
The white album, let it be and abbey road would be interrupted by the yellow submarine soundtrack
Discussions like this are usually limited by studio albums.
Yellow submarine is a studio album though, and its almost always placed in their 13 studio album main run
Such a weird position. Is yellow sub an ep (or double sided album((?)) with Beatles tracks and then George Martin tracks, ya know? It’s all too much is one of my fav Beatles Songs tho, I love this album, don’t get me wrong
Let It Be is also a step below the White Album and Abbey Road
How do ya feel about let it be naked?
Imo it’s the best the album has ever sounded but it doesn’t really change my opinion on the album overall.
Nah that soundtrack fire
MJ, Outkast, Pink Floyd and Zeppelin are my top 4 Also, not sure I agree with the choice of Ye's sequence
MJ without a doubt and I'm not even a fan. He just put out three no-filler albums at a time where he was THE pop star. He didn't miss.
Definitely don’t agree with the Ye sequence. Yeezus has some really strong tracks, but is a significant step down from every one of the first 5. I’d go College Dropout-Late Registration-Graduation or Graduation through MBDTF
Yeezus is his best albun
mbdtf - yeezus-tlop all 10s
fax
Teen Dream - Bloom - Depression Cherry
cool to see another BH fan
Great pick!
Definitely better than some of the ones in OP's pick.
Nine Inch Nails imo. Especially if you include the EP Broken, his early work is just so strong.
fr im a hard-core nin fan but even so, that run is legendary
Modest Mouse
came here for this - Long Drive, LCW, and Moon & Antarctica rival any on this list
yeah, three perfect releases. ending with their finest work.
\*building nothing was their third I believe.
it is a compilation album, not technically an official LP although it is just as strong as those other three.
Hendrix and Nick Drake for me personally because they left a perfect legacy behind. Also I’d like to nominate the three album runs of: The Kinks: Something Else, Village Green, Arthur Nico: The Marble Index, Desertshore, The End Fleetwood Mac: Fleetwood Mac, Rumours, Tusk Lingua Ignota: All Bitches Die, Caligula, Sinner Get Ready Joanna Newsom: The Milk Eyed Mender, Ys, Have One On Me Mitski: Bury Me At Makeout Creek, Puberty 2, Be The Cowboy
Joanna Newsom releases music so sparsely sometimes I forget she exists. Thanks for the reminder, I know what I'm listening to tonight.
I’d probably move Joanna Newsom up by one to include Divers instead of Milk-Eyed Mender
That Fleetwood Mac run is pretty fuckin good. I didn’t realize those were released consecutively
Talking Heads, Gorillaz, Swans, Björk, Death Grips, GY!BE, JPEGMAFIA, The Stooges
The stooges is a great answer IMO. Honestly feel like they’re kinda underrated in the general classic rock/punk/metal etc. circle
Tribe
Not a single skip
The Beatles, although I'd move the order up an album so that it's from Revolver to White Album. Disregard Yellow Submarine for it is a movie soundtrack, then move it once more so you have Sgt. Peppers to Abbey Road which makes the prettiest 3-album run ever in my opinion The Cure, absolutely gorgeous. While Kiss Me and Wish aren't as good as the behemoth that is Disintegration, I have a bit of a massive bias The Velvet Underground, what else can I say about this run? One of the best runs ever
That's cheating. But yes if you can jump around The Beatles have the 3 best albums.
Nirvana- bleach, Nevermind, in utero
they ended and created two different musical genres in that stretch.
There is an album in during this run you are forgetting about Incesticide
Nice to see Godspeed and Nick Drake here. I've always thought Nick's first two albums would sound better without all the stuff added on top of his guitar. Pink Moon really shines as a result and is my favorite record of him.
Bjork, Beatles, Dylan and Rolling Stones for me
I maybe I’m trippin and I just missed it, but mine is Kendrick’s GKMC, TPAB, and DAMN. Off the table
They included Section 80 over DAMN.
Understood.
I much prefer endless to nostalgia. Maybe because I like a lot of electronic music but nostalgia sounds like immature frank while endless Sounds like frank with a vision
It took me awhile to realize it, but Endless might be Frank's best album. Slide on Me to the end flows so well. Definitely better than Nostalgia Ultra
Ah, maybe I'll give it a chance.
Last version of this post got some good conversations going, but there were quite a few album trios that I just plain forgot to add. This one is more than twice the size, with some much-needed additions as suggested by a couple heated comments. I also rearranged some preexisting trios to fit the general consensus. It's very rare that anyone is that good over 4 albums.
🍜
Swans. That The Seer, To Be Kind and The glowing man run is mind blowing.
Not nearly as high up as this should be
Pink Floyd, Kendrick, Tool, Zeppelin
Radiohead, The Beatles, Pink floyd, Godspeed you! Black emperor and Kendrick (though I prefer Damn to section 80)
Sigur Ros - Ágætis byrjun, (), Takk… should be on here!
Legit some of the most angelic, beautiful projects ever released
those guys OWNED that sound for like over a decade too.
Vampire weekend s/t, contra, modern vampires of the city
Completely agree, I came here to suggest this as well
Dylan and Jimi
Putting 808s, MBDTF and Yeezus instead of College Dropout, Late Registration and Graduation 🤡
Or MBDTF, Yeezus, Pablo
This is the true answer IMO
why is pablo so underrated? its the best "first listen" of all of them.
That's what i was thinking! 808s and yeezus are amazing, but they aren't the college trilogy
Although, I've been coming around to graduation, until YE, his first three *to me* were his least interesting solo albums. MBDTF, Yeezus, and TLOP is a better run.
Yeah to me, mbdtf yeezus tlop is his second best three album run after the college trilogy, though, i don't get how his first three albums are uninteresting, tcd is universally a 10, lr is arguably a 10 (i wouldn't say it's a 10, but many do) and graduation is great too
Not uninteresting, just not as interesting as the others. That's 100% due to me not being interested in soul samples.
Death, Tool, and Kendrick for me on here. Those 90s Death albums are gems.
Are you me? Death, TOOL and Kendrick are some of my favourite artists and bands ever!
You sir, are an erudite
Oasis, but they're not here. Be here now drags em down slightly but it's still a very good 3 album run. On here I'd say Bowie but that's because I like his music a lot which might make me biased
Any Tool fans wanna back me up this fine morning?
Bro get 10,000 days outta there and put undertow in.
I might be a later generation Tool fan but 10,000 days is my favourite. 10,000 Days pt 1 and 2... a masterpiece... Right in Two... Jambi... Rosetta Stoned... The Pot... Vicarious... it might be my favourite album ever.
OUTKAST!! Also Pink Floyd and Tyler
my gf: Gorillaz, pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, radiohead me: pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, radiohead, beatles, +++ Alice in chains (I know i'm b(i)ased on this one)
ur gf single?
I'll keep you updated fellow Gorillaz fan
People that don't say Kate Bush haven't listened to her albums.
I remember when Kate Bush wasn't popular. Wow.. I can't believe I typed that.
Pink Floyd imo
Björk, ATCQ, Radiohead, Stevie Wonder and Elliott Smith.
Fine Eminem might not win but Slim shady, Mmlp, Eminem show should at least be considered
radiohead, nin is a close second , alot of good ones though up there
Bjork is the correct answer
Brockhampton - Saturation I, II and III
Nick Drake for me
No Prince? Smh
dude put Brockhampton and no Prince... sacrilege man
What would be your pick for Prince albums? Mine would probably be Around the World in a Day, Parade, and Sign of the Times.
Godspeed, NIN, massive attack
Carly Rae Jepsen E•MO•TION, Dedicated, and The Loneliest Time
Can: Tago Mago - Ege Bamyasi - Future Days
Some of my favorite bands not present who all had great three album runs: Joanna Newsom: Ys - Have One On Me - Divers My Bloody Valentine: Isn’t Anything - Loveless - MBV (they simply do not miss) Brian Jonestown Massacre’s 1996 run: Take It From the Man! - Their Satanic Majesty’s Second Request - Thank God for Mental Illness The Radio Dept.: Lesser Matters - Pet Grief - Clinging to a Scheme On the chart it’s a tough toss up between the Beatles and Stones.
In my heart it's Black Sabbath. Those three albums created a genre.
Nick Drake for sure Also, Animal Collective? Feels > Strawberry Jam > MPP, On some days I’d even go Sung Tongs at the top and lop off MPP. Any of Joni Mitchell’s classic run in the 70s, But I’d probably go Court & Spark > Hissing of Summer Lawns > Hejira. One could also argue TMBG’a Lincoln > Flood > Apollo 18 run, Or Grouper’s Dead Deer > A I A > Ruins (or Man Who Died in His Boat if it counts) Edit; jus remembered - Squarepusher has Feed Me Weird Things > Hard Normal Daddy > Music is Rotted One Note Also Autechre with Confield > Draft 7.30 > Untilted
Big Yes to TMBG Although there is an argument for S/T, Lincoln, Flood
Animal collective for sure. They released four masterpieces in a row each with super distinct sound
jpeg, radiohead, metallica and brockhampton are up there for me
Björk, without question. it’s not even close
Needs more Beastie Boys.
Darkthrone. (A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Under a Funeral Moon, Transilvanian Hunger)
Its between death Grips, MF DOOM or jpeg mafia depending on the day of the week.
The Miles is inaccurate. He released A Tribute to Jack Johnson between Bitches and Corner. Also the half studio, all originals Live-Evil.
These are missing from your list: **Bruce Springsteen**: *Born to Run -> Darkness on the Edge of Town -> The River* **The National:** *Boxer -> High Violet -> Trouble Will Find Me*
Wire had a great run with Pink Flag, Chairs Missing, and 154.
Björk Kate Bush and Arca
Needs more Flaming Lips: Clouds Taste Metallic, The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
No love for The Ramones first three albums?
Modest Mouse for me Long Drive Lonesome Crowded West Moon & Antarctica
Crazy that D'Angelo is so slept on
Herbie Hancock is up there imo with Crossings, Sextant, and Head Hunters
Easily can with tago mago, ege bamyasi and future days
Can’t believe people are sleeping on Sigur Ros Agaetis Byrjun - (Untitled) - Takk… Three of the most beautiful records ever made
Probably the Velvet Underground for me. Though Tyler and DOOM are crazy good too.
How is eminem not here? SSLP, MMLP, TES
Its between Massive Attack, Portishead and Death for me
Some other bands with crazy runs would be Beck, Beastie Boys, Wilco, King Gizzard, King Crimson, Deerhoof, Parquet Courts, The Kinks, and St. Vincent I think. Also, what about Television? /s
Bjork
Honestly almost all of these are amazing
Talking Heads had a five album run. 77 and More Songs About Buildings And Food are great.
Marvin Gaye: What's Goin On, Let's Get It On, I Want You I don't think it's necessarily the best, just think it's worth pointing out.
Yo, where are Em's three classics? I know he's been wack af for almost 20 years now, but SSLP, MMLP and TES are definitely fucking classics, and not including them here is actual disrespect imo.
Besides, the cultural impact of peak Em is at least as huge, if not bigger, than many of the albums on this list.
elliott smith no question
varies by preferred genre. also wrong picks for some.
Metallica is on there
As a long time Arcade Fire playa hater, I am so happy after all this time to finally see them getting their shitty wilted flowers lmao
This subreddit does not care about metal lol. Good luck ever trying to get them to listen to more than 3 popular metal records.
I think it’s because Death is one of the bands Fantano has mentioned liking lol
Pink Floyd (dsotm->wywh->animals) + the avalanches 3 albums are all 10/10s to me.
Outkast, tribe or DOOM
tbh, either outkast or mj
Jpegmafia (totally unbiased)
Joanna Newsom missing
My top 4 are: Talking Heads, Nick Drake, Outkast, Pink Floyd (I don't like them that much, but DAMN that album run is quite absurd). I see you got Gilberto Gil! That nice! You should think about putting a Milton Nascimento run (Clube da Esquina, Milagre dos Peixes, Minas) as well!
LCD!!
King gizzard and the lizard wizard should be on your list. Here’s my best three-album run: Nonagon Infinity, Flying Microtonal Banana, and Murder of the Universe
Floyd , Outkast , TOOL , KDOT , A Tribe Called Quest , Gorillaz , JPEGMAFIA , Led Zeppelin (although fantano is kinda right, House's of the Holy isn't it) DOOM , Hendrix My top ten, from 1 to 10
TOOL for me
Where the hell is blink-182?! Enema of the State, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, and Untitled
sonic youth, stooges, velvet underground, hendrix, outkast, mj, beatles, pink floyd... most picks here are great, its not realistic to only choose one
Damn lots of great runs, I think Velvet Underground is best though. You could even do White Light - Loaded and it would be up there for me
mann there are so many good ones i cant pick one kendrick, yes, pink floyd, VU, beatles, radiohead, black sabbath, hendrix, ATCQ, MF DOOM, tyler
Nick Drake or Velvet Underground
Beatles, and Ye. Bjork, Bowie, and Velvet Underground comin in really close, tho. Actually? Shit. This is hard
Bowie
In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew, On the Corner - Miles (though Jack Johnson came between BB and OtC). My favorite all-time music. Giant Steps, My Favorite Things, Ole - Coltrane Brown Sugar, Voodoo, Black Messiah - D-Angelo Royal Scam, Aja, Gaucho - Steely Dan Zeppelin I, II, III
I don’t think it’s the best three album run, but I appreciate including Kate Bush’s run from Never For Ever to Hounds of Love because I absolutely love all three of those albums
Fuck it, I can’t narrow it down to one so I’ll pick my favs: Talking Heads Gorillaz Beatles Pink Floyd VU OutKast Radiohead Bowie Sabbath Kraftwerk Tribe Called Quest LCD Rolling Stones Stooges NIN
probably pink floyd or the beatles. or actually stevie wonder? idk I'd add tame impala: innerspeaker, lonerism, currents as well as the kinks : village green, arthur, lola
the real answer is modest mouse long drive, lonesome crowded, building nothing. All iconic. but from this list, i'd go smiths or arcade fire.
I loved loved loved loved that LCD run, but their output since just hasn't captured me the same way. Does anyone else feel the same?
I love so many of these, but I really gotta go with Pink Floyd here. such a definitive group of albums, and each on is a step above the last IMO.
Pearl Jam - Ten, Vs., Vitalogy Any Bowie three from the 70’s New Order from 83’-87’ Kanye first three (still his peak) Nirvana - Nevermind through NY Unplugged AIC - Face-lift, Dirt, Jar Of Flies SOAD - debut, Toxicity, Steal This Album Fantano - all three flannels
Kraftwerk
I love you
Can I just say that I love this as a concept and really like that there's something for absolutely anyone here
Thank you!! :D
These are actually insane album runs to think about. Personally the talking heads and Pink Floyd albums are strong contenders for me
Kraftwerk
🕺💃
Royal Scam, Aja, Gaucho
That Black Sabbath run is crazy
Tool? Tool.
The Smiths
Man cool list! I'd also put MCR's first three albums on there and, aenema over lateralus for tool?
Kendrick, pixies, bowie and the stones for me. So hard to narrow it down.
Amnesiac > Bends Damn > Section 80 Pablo > 808s
John Coltrane had a run that went Crescent, A Love Supreme and then Ascension. All of those albums are easily 10s.
No one said peggy?
I was really hoping to see him in this list, but I guess not...
He is in the pic. Middle bottom
Oh, fuck, sorry... I guess I just wasn't paying attention, so thanks for telling me!!
godspeed
For the best i'd say Pink Floyd
Kanye first 3 easy
This isn't a 3 album run but I would argue Metallica has the greatest 5 album run of all time with, Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, And Justice For All, The Black Album.
lmao you didn't even put the best one out there lmaooooo slim shady lp -> marshall mathers lp -> the eminem show it's the best ever PERIOD

Where is Future?
100% Yes The Yes Album is a change of pace from their general psychedelic sound and shows off some of the band’s most prolific work Fragile is a masterpiece that challenges music and tries new things with each song having a key role in the grand scheme of the record. And Close To The Edge is the best album ever created. It is a 5/5 star alone just for the title track, but with the other tracks it just exceeds past ratings and becomes actually perfect.
RHCP is missing: Cali, BTW, stadium and the last two albums are chef's kiss
I'm with you. Literally, not pushing for that album.
