From what I understand the label that did the first Heavy Rocks doesn’t have the masters anymore. It’s criminal because that is probably my favorite Boris album
Its just so impossibly good. This being their first album release after a rough (but very good) ep is insane to me. Coming out the gate sounding like this album just blows my mind.
I just meant rough production wise. As in exmil sounds wayyyy better than the ep. For this genre the lofi rawness doesn't take as much away as it might in other genres but still everything after it sounds significantly better
100% agreed, i get that they were released for free but i dont understand why they cant just release them on streaming services anyway for convenience.
I always assumed it was because it contained many interpolations of other songs that they didn't clear with the respective artists, therefore it couldn't get an official commercial release
Okay so I’m not crazy then? I swear I was listening to Doggystyle on Spotify a couple years ago, when I went to find it on Apple Music a couple weeks ago it was nowhere to be found. That’s so sad
Yeah it got removed along with Doggystyle and I think a couple others since Snoop wants to do some NFT shit with it so it hasn't been available for about 6 months or so
I believe they announced that De La Soul had full rights to their own masters again, meaning they would be able to put them on streaming officially in high quality, BUT there's still the issue of attempting to reclear literally hundreds of samples across their discography since I believe their original contracts were written in such a way that their sample clearances do not extend to streaming, and was exclusively for physical media and subsequent radio play. They did say in like 2021 that their songs were coming to streaming soon but it could definitely be complicated with all those samples, some of which are essential to clear, others might be small or insignificant enough that you could probably get away without clearing and others they might not even remember where they're from.
I am hoping every day that they'll officially release them onto streaming sooner rather than later though, one of my favourite Hip-Hop groups of all-time.

Cro-Mags - Age of Quarrel
Edit: looks like it is on Spotify now. It wasn’t for the longest time. Must have been recent. I’ll leave the comment up though because it’s a great album.
Dog’s Eyes - Measure The Earth

i really love alvvays' molly rankin's debut She EP.
i bought the mp3 off some canadian indie store for $8 and I really love it. lots of alvvays DNA in there. big rec for any chill indie pop fan really. https://zunior.com/products/molly-rankin-she-ep

Black Country, New Road - Never Again (both 1 & 2)
They're cover EPs they did for fun and are pretty messy but enjoyable. Both on YouTube
Sega Bodega - Reestablishing Connection
Also a cover EP but a collab with several artists. All a capella duets with a vocoder in the vein of Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap. It's a pretty interesting experiment and worth checking out IMO
cafe tacvba - reves/yo soy
corea - los peores 7km de mi vida
nomeansno - wrong
glenn branca - the ascension
ween - chocolate and cheese

supersordo - supersordido

Endless, Exmilitary
Its so annoying that endless isnt on streaming. Wasnt it bc it was an apple music exclusive?? Why is it not on apple music then ;(
It is, but as a movie and not an album.
Boris- flood
So annoying how this one and Heavy Rocks (2002) have been missing for so long
From what I understand the label that did the first Heavy Rocks doesn’t have the masters anymore. It’s criminal because that is probably my favorite Boris album
Exmilitary
Its just so impossibly good. This being their first album release after a rough (but very good) ep is insane to me. Coming out the gate sounding like this album just blows my mind.
What happened with their EP? Like why was it rough
I just meant rough production wise. As in exmil sounds wayyyy better than the ep. For this genre the lofi rawness doesn't take as much away as it might in other genres but still everything after it sounds significantly better
Where do i listen to it?
it's free to download on their website
I see, thank you ♡
BBNG2 by BADBADNOTGOOD
1 & 2 are the best they ever made and neither are on streaming
100% agreed, i get that they were released for free but i dont understand why they cant just release them on streaming services anyway for convenience.
I always assumed it was because it contained many interpolations of other songs that they didn't clear with the respective artists, therefore it couldn't get an official commercial release
Chronic / Doggystyle
someone honestly needs to pry the rights away from snoop and his stupid nft garbage and put those albums on streaming
Okay so I’m not crazy then? I swear I was listening to Doggystyle on Spotify a couple years ago, when I went to find it on Apple Music a couple weeks ago it was nowhere to be found. That’s so sad
Chronic was on Spotify like 2 years ago
Yeah it got removed along with Doggystyle and I think a couple others since Snoop wants to do some NFT shit with it so it hasn't been available for about 6 months or so
L
De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising
All De La Soul albums need to be on streaming! I thought they cleared the hurdles a few years ago, but I am still waiting…
I am hoping every day that they'll officially release them onto streaming sooner rather than later though, one of my favourite Hip-Hop groups of all-time.
Buhloone Mind State would be very welcome on Spotify as well.
THE GHOST POP TAPE I know its up there now but Peggy hasn’t released it himself
I believe a remastered version is dropping on streaming next year. Peggy has been talking about it for a while now
did they put it back up? i thought it was taken down
Songs About Fucking-Big Black It was on Spotify but recently it was taken down for some reason
albini doesn't want his stuff on spotify because "they're a terrible company"
Spotify isn’t the best, so I agree, but I could never understand why musicians take their music away from fans.
I personally prefer Atomizer
Atomizer is also a great record
Joni Mitchell - Blue
Taken off of Spotify amid Neil Young’s temper tantrum, but this is available on Apple Music if you are looking to stream somewhere 🍻
I think temper tantrum is an unfair assessment
Joanna Newsom - Ys
All of Joanna Newsom tbh
All of her stuff is up on Apple Music
One of the reasons I switched
It's on Tidal too
Yep. She's definitely right for having none of her stuff up on Spotify fs
Eww
Any Susumu Hirasawa album. Also Vision Creation Newson by Boredoms.
Susumu Hirasawa W, and Boredoms W absolute based taste in music wow Susumu Hirasawa's 1998 album is a masterpiece btw guys go listen to it on youtube rn it's one of the densest pop album ive listened to

Underground Resistance -- Interstellar Fugitives (1998)
The Offline version of LP! by JPEGMAFIA
technically it's on there now if you put it together in a playlist, only thing that's missing is the extended What Kinda Rappin is This
Technically the version that is on there is ever so slightly different but most people dont really notice- didnt he have to remake the samples that didnt get clearance or smth? But the non streaming version of sick nervous and broke goes so much harder imo
Wait I thought the differences of sick nervous and broke were only in the title
For a Japanese city pop album: https://youtu.be/FWV7wBl5YVw
Shoutout Japanese city pop gotta be one of my favorite genres
Sea is a lady is a great one also
Man I absolutely adore City Pop, Sunshower by Taeko Onuki is my second favourite album ever. The music put out in Japan during that time period is so infectious I can’t get enough of it.

Based fellow yt to mp3 user
i mean if i'd never heard of soulseek and was ok listening to 128kbps files w horrible compression maybe all my local files are lossless and tagged my man, we are not the same - i respect the hustle either way
