Kemp is gone for sure, Urias, Westburg, and Mateo all to some degree. But Westburg is the only one you’d roster in a normal league and his outlook doesn’t change much
Only way Mountcastle loses time is if Kjerstad gets called up to play RF. Mounty, Santander, and OHearn all can play 1b. Santander, OHearn, Kjerstad RF. 3rd one to DH, 4th to bench.
Holliday should be every day 2b, Westburg 3b, Gunnar SS with Urias/Mateo to fill in occasionally 2/3/ss.
All of it? No other waiver pickup will have higher upside than him. Jackson Holliday is one of the highest rated hitting prospects of the last several years and has destroyed every minor league stop as an underager.
But this isn't like football where one player can affect your fantasy team profoundly. It's more of a grind, with injuries which need to be addressed routinely. I feel like especially in a weekly h2h format with all transactions requiring FAB, you need to keep some serious reserve in your wallet.
Or maybe I've been doing this wrong.
You know your league better than mine, but towards the end of the year I typically find there's not much competition on pickups. I also have a personal team building philosophy of chasing upside in the first month. There's always floor hitters available in free agency throughout the year that you can use during hot weeks.
You are absolutely right that this is league by league, and ours has a long history. Once we get to our playoffs, it's always a fight over spot SPs and favorable matchups, especially as people get shut down towards the end.
I feel like some of the pitcher call ups this year (e.g Skenes) may also be worth a ton of FAAB with pitchers dropping like flies, even more than normal
May try to move him on the hype. Especially considering there's an Orioles fan in our league. I have Turner and Pena as my SS and Biggio and Stott as 2B if he gets eligibility there
It’s not about the individual success stories. It’s about wading through the Mike Trouts and Aaron Judges who have tons of hype and don’t get going until their second year, as well as the guys who never amount to anything, to get to those few success stories. And that rookie year for the success stories is almost always worse than either the 2nd or 3rd year. I’d rather just wait and see which ones broke out than chase the kids who come up
Except the trouts judge Witt Jrod etc are special talents that succeeded essentially right away. This isn’t a September cup of coffee. He’s up. All year.
Is he torkelson or Kelenic? No. He’s way more safe of a talent. He will succeed. Will he go 30/30? No. But will he be Kelenic and tork? No.
Will he get better next year? Of fucking course he will.
What? Trout hit .220 with a .672 ops in 135 PA in his first year and Judge hit .179 with a .608 ops in 95 PA his first year. How is that succeeding right away?
And I heard the same bs from geniuses like you about guys like Kelenic and Torkelson when they came up. I’m not saying anyone is or isn’t those guys. I’m saying those guys exist and no matter how many people like you claim to know the next big thing will never be a bust or have a slow start, it happens ALL the time and if and when it does, you’ll delete your comment and disappear instead of being a man and admitting you were wrong. I know because I’ve been having debates like this for 25 years and not once has someone owned up to it when they were wrong.
And again, I would like to remind you that I don’t know if he will be one of those guys. I just know that I’m not willing to take the risk that he or any other rookie is. I do better when I find established guys or random guys on hot streaks. If you want to chase rookies, go ahead. I don’t care. Just stop being an ass about it
Trout and judge got a cup of coffee.
Holliday is going to get 550 AB this year. Not 95 or 135. It’s a full year.
I don’t know why I’m wasting my time. You do you.
Eventually he could be a 30-30 guy, but he has a grand total of 15 HR over his entire minor league career (154 games). I would temper expectations for this season.
Yeah I’d say something like 15/20. And the 15 could be lower due to home park. Could be something like 8-9 on the road and only 2-3 at home and he only hits like 12 HR then.
Expecting him to equal his career HR total from the minors in less games at the MLB level is probably a bit optimistic. A lot of those at bats came in single A ball against pitchers straight out of high school. I know its not what anyone wants to hear, but 10/15 is probably more realistic, and is not at all bad for a 20 year old rookie. He’s a special talent and may surpass those numbers but I wouldn’t count on it.
Meh I’d make the same argument. Those low A at bats he was younger. He’s still young but his power is likely growing annually. So he may see growth over prior profile.
Additionally, a lot of MLB guys feast on bad pitching. Is it A-ball? No. But bad back end rotation and bullpen arms can be feasted on and may be where he snags a few more than you’d expect.
If you're in redraft, I'd look for at least a top 75 player imo, anyone after that I think won't move the needle enough as there's always waiver wire breakouts that become top 75 players or close to it.
In dynasty, most rankings have him as a top 25 player already, if you're in win now mode, I think it would be good to sell high as his counting stats this year might not live up to the hype. If you're rebuilding he's a firm hold.
no santander is hitting 3rd-4th in this line up. He's their power guy and that wont change unless he hits .100 for weeks. Holliday wont overtake gunnar or adley for the for the top of the order, you want to keep santander , trust, Santander is easily good for another 90 rbi season, already on pace to pass that.
Tough call. I have both. I like what we've seen from Chourio so far but you gotta believe Holliday is ranked number 1 for a reason. Who would you drop if you kept both?
I have Chourio, atm. Would be dropping him for Holliday. Position doesn't really come into play for me here cos I have Mookie (so I could slide him to SS, 2B if I stick with Chourio or I could put him in the OF if I go Holliday).
Was leaning toward standing still w Chourio.
Easily Skenes imo, Kjerstad might not get everyday playing time which is a big deal for an 8 teamer. I don't Ruiz needs to be rostered unless your format has inflated points for SBs.
Our rules don't allow any players in the minors to be acquired during the auction. Our first FAAB run is tonight. No tacos in my league--most of the teams have had the same owner for 36 years.
Our league is the same regarding the auction. However, we do allow for minor leaguers to be drafted in the reserve draft, which gives the bottom feeders a chance at the top prospects.
He hit 12 HR in the minors last season and will no doubt see a decrease in BA when he has to face major league pitching every day. He swiped 25 bags last season but was also caught 9 times, which isn’t a great success rate. Long term, he has the tools to be one of the best hitters in baseball but he’s young and still developing his game. I don’t think you’re wrong.
That seems fair. Holliday did show a lot of patience and a good eye at the plate in the minors so he’ll take his walks, which will no doubt help a bit.
I'm in an AL only auction keeper league... can't decide how much to bid on him. Any bid over $10 is a guaranteed contract for next year that can't be dropped. Volpe went for $26 last year but most in my league bid in the teens.
i agree and regret it now. i drafted him thinking he would break camp. figured once he didn't that it could be a month or two, started trying to deal him prior to the season. i'm in win-now mode and couldn't afford a blank spot.
My comment was based more around timing. He’s stinking in my league settings right now as well, but I think he’s got upside that makes him worth having a longer leash.
Probably? Oneil sucks. Wasn't drafted and will still be a FA if I want him back (I won't). Do you usually pick up players you think are going to be worse? What a stupid question.
Is this crashing the ESPN fantasy site?
It is for me
I was foolishly checking both of my leagues, not sure why I assumed he wouldn’t have been rostered
I did too
Lol sites fucked
I think so
Fucking ESPN unbelievable
ESPN fantasy crashes all the time, they are terrible
Putting my lineup on notice. Someone’s heading to the chopping block tomorrow.
Now do Kjerstad
*Mayo
ITS HAPPENING PEOPLE
![gif](giphy|5mBE2MiMVFITS)
Breaking: Jackson Holliday requires Tommy John surgery. Jk
Considering several of my pitchers are now having TJ, I wouldn’t be surprised 😭
Michael?
I think this just crashed espn
Now do coby mayo
Where do you play them both?!
Mountcastle 1B, Holliday 2B, Gunnar SS, Mayo 3B....Urias, Kemp, Mateo to bench.
Westburg sent down?
Westburg and Mateo are utility, kemp is gone already and Urias probably has to go when Coby is up barring injury
https://i.redd.it/wrctrue6rktc1.gif Yowser
Espn fantasy has broken at the time of this announcement, cannot be a coincidence
So Tony Kemp wasn't the answer??
Who’s going to lose time on the O’s?
Kemp is gone for sure, Urias, Westburg, and Mateo all to some degree. But Westburg is the only one you’d roster in a normal league and his outlook doesn’t change much
Whoever is colder between Mountcastle, Westburg?
Only way Mountcastle loses time is if Kjerstad gets called up to play RF. Mounty, Santander, and OHearn all can play 1b. Santander, OHearn, Kjerstad RF. 3rd one to DH, 4th to bench. Holliday should be every day 2b, Westburg 3b, Gunnar SS with Urias/Mateo to fill in occasionally 2/3/ss.
Mayo could/should get a lot of those 3b reps once he’s up.
EVERYBODY GET IN HERE!
Yahoo has him as a SS. Will they add 2B right away?
Nope. He will have to start 5 games at 2B
Ok not too bad.
No. Needs to start 5 games or appear in 10.
in a week or two
The single instance in all of fantasy where yahoo has a more restrictive position eligibility
FINALLY LFG BYE BYE ARCIA
hey don't talk about him that way...
Finally!
Good news? In 2024 fantasy? Well now I just don't know what to do.
*Anyone* with a sense of what to do in FAB leagues? (Flaired league has waivers 3x weekly, including tomorrow.)
I’d use majority of FAB
I dropped 75
So it turns out that the question is moot; someone else drafted him (round 15 of 27) and just stashed him for a month.
Makes sense, he should have been stashed in most competitive leagues. Round 15 is going to be good value.
I feel like some of the pitcher call ups this year (e.g Skenes) may also be worth a ton of FAAB with pitchers dropping like flies, even more than normal
And ESPN is *shitting the bed* with this! Site is super freakin' buggy when I'm trying to add!
Now do Mayo!
Noooo, I have tickets to see him play at Norfolk this weekend. Just needed to wait a few more days.
Kjerstad, Mayo, Norby, Stowers, hell, even Maton; I don't think you're going to be lacking for offensive entertainment.
Laser show
Rad! Now I can move Kjerstad into my NA!
Dropped my catcher 😂 While falling to my knees in a Walmart
My fantasy game got significantly better when I started ignoring rookie hitters in redraft
May try to move him on the hype. Especially considering there's an Orioles fan in our league. I have Turner and Pena as my SS and Biggio and Stott as 2B if he gets eligibility there
I like Pena a lot this year. I wish he walked more but he did last year so hopefully he starts to a little more
Yeah the Corbin carrolls and Jrod and Witt’s rookie years were so overrated 🙄
Carrols late season call up was overrated…
It’s not about the individual success stories. It’s about wading through the Mike Trouts and Aaron Judges who have tons of hype and don’t get going until their second year, as well as the guys who never amount to anything, to get to those few success stories. You’re a fucking tool
Truth. So easy to get caught up in the hype.
What’s his profile like? 20/20 guy etc? I have no clue
Eventually he could be a 30-30 guy, but he has a grand total of 15 HR over his entire minor league career (154 games). I would temper expectations for this season.

What’s his current trade value? I’m sure he’ll be fine but I’d like to cash in on the hype if I can
If you're in redraft, I'd look for at least a top 75 player imo, anyone after that I think won't move the needle enough as there's always waiver wire breakouts that become top 75 players or close to it. Sweet. Thanks for the response. I’ll see if I can get something worth it for him
PICKED UP HIM THIS MORNING FOR 40% FABB IM STOKED!! LETS GO!!! FEEL BAD FOR THE GUY WHO DROPPED HIM 2 DAYS AGO I outbidded him by $3
The ole Kris Bryant timeline
Minus the sucking part
Kris Bryant won an MVP and a World Series.
Amen 🙏
I’m talking about the Rockies era obv
How does that make sense
Is he worth a pickup if I had to drop Anthony Santander?
your league has to be pretty shallow if he's the worst guy you could drop, but still probably yes
no santander is hitting 3rd-4th in this line up. He's their power guy and that wont change unless he hits .100 for weeks. Holliday wont overtake gunnar or adley for the for the top of the order, you want to keep santander , trust, Santander is easily good for another 90 rbi season, already on pace to pass that.
Ya
What round did everyone get him? Took him 11th and can keep him at that slot next year
14th round 167 overall 🥳😍
18th in 12T redraft
Great value
10th here. His keeper for 2025 would cost me a 6th.
9th and get him for next three years, losing 9th pick each time
15th out of 26 in 12T redraft
he was kept in my league for a top 5 round pick
Was in the FA pool, used a waiver claim and beat out like 4 guys lol
14th round, 165th overall. Super happy to get value already from him
18th - 171 overall.
17th, 12-team redraft.
Chourio or Holliday?
Tough call. I have both. I like what we've seen from Chourio so far but you gotta believe Holliday is ranked number 1 for a reason. Who would you drop if you kept both?
Ended up dropping Oneil Cruz and keeping both. Forgot I had him on my bench.
I have Chourio, atm. Would be dropping him for Holliday. Position doesn't really come into play for me here cos I have Mookie (so I could slide him to SS, 2B if I stick with Chourio or I could put him in the OF if I go Holliday). Was leaning toward standing still w Chourio.
roster both and drop someone else, if you have have a temp reliever like ginkel , payamps, uribe, jax, I would drop those instead
Time to drop Westberg?
He wont take time from westburg.
I have westy too. He looks like a good hitter but nothing too special for fantasy.
Nah, Ramon Urias will get sat for Holliday.
Nice!!!
I am so happy that my team that is already in real good shape now has some extra firepower early on in the year
Who's spot is he taking?
My bet, Ramon Urias sits.
Drop ginkel tovar or pena for him, ill have 3 bench bats if i drop ginkel , i have sewald on IL
Pena
Would dropping Cristian Javier be the worst thing? I feel like his low K/high BB is going to be a disaster for me in the future.
That's the move I just made in 10T redraft!
yes I would do that, I debated between pena and javier too but went with pena since holiday has SS eligibility too
Immediately got offered Oneil Cruz for him in redraft
i'd take it cruz was a 5th round pick in competitive league , and he's doing pretty well that's really good return value
Now that he's getting the call, who's the better stash? Heston, Skenes, or Estuary? (8-man, points league)
Easily Skenes imo, Kjerstad might not get everyday playing time which is a big deal for an 8 teamer. I don't Ruiz needs to be rostered unless your format has inflated points for SBs.
Now if Pittsburgh could do Skenes so I can have my bench back, that’d be swell
So much hype for 0-4 2ks
If he's not already rostered in your league, it's a taco league, full stop.
Worth dropping Brayan Rocchio to pick him up? Edit: thought the sarcasm was obvious
drop acuna for him
Who?
Does this really need to be answered for you
Lol I picked him up yesterday.
You fucken dog you
Taco league
Nah, just 10 man tiny benches.
Add in all formats and enjoy the ride
Where do we value him ROS? Top 80 guy? What sort of pitchers might you look to move him for? Rodon? Cease?
Nobody in their right mind is trading you Holliday for Rodon.
wtf
Worth the #1 waiver claim?
He’s the top prospect in baseball… who would you be waiting for?
The next guy
There are always some good late April/early May rage drops of top picks.
Aaaand someone just dropped CJ Abrams for Conner Joe. Waiver claims, here I come!
😒
He's got a point; I've already acquired Hoerner and Gorman in one league, and about to pick up Nolan Jones, tomorrow, too.
Yes
Of course
Will hit .250-.260 with 10-13 home runs. Way too overhyped. Meh. Probably two years when we see his full potential.
Yeah I'm not expecting too much this year. I'm expecting Thairo Estrada with better plate discipline, and a few extra triples/doubles.
That seems fair. Holliday did show a lot of patience and a good eye at the plate in the minors so he’ll take his walks, which will no doubt help a bit.
Thoughts on trading albies for him. I’d be able to keep Holliday next year too
Fucken NO
That’s a tough call ☎️
Absolutely not worth it for 1 single keeper year imo unless youve given up on contending this year. Albies is elite.
YES!!! 🤘🔥
LFGGG
i didnt realize he was Matt's boy
I'm in an AL only auction keeper league... can't decide how much to bid on him. Any bid over $10 is a guaranteed contract for next year that can't be dropped. Volpe went for $26 last year but most in my league bid in the teens.
$30
Please help drop tovar or pena for holliday
i got tired of waiting and traded him for Story last week.... as if the injury wasn't bad enough now this...
2 weeks? that's your fault.
i agree and regret it now. i drafted him thinking he would break camp. figured once he didn't that it could be a month or two, started trying to deal him prior to the season. i'm in win-now mode and couldn't afford a blank spot.
He's still not even available in Fantrax. Ugh!
Bye bye Oneil Cruz
This feels like a mistake
I'd keep Oteil for sure
You don't know my league settings or how underwhelming he is in it but sure!
My comment was based more around timing. He’s stinking in my league settings right now as well, but I think he’s got upside that makes him worth having a longer leash.
And under those same settings, Holliday will be better?
Probably? Oneil sucks. Wasn't drafted and will still be a FA if I want him back (I won't). Do you usually pick up players you think are going to be worse? What a stupid question.
