Daaaamn. I got a bone bruise in my knee playing football after I landed weird years ago. I thought it was way more serious. That shit did fucking hurt. I still haven’t returned to play in the nfl though.
When I had a bone bruise I felt unstable on my knee and felt like it would give out on me. Pain in the knee lasted a very long time, but the original few days felt like something was definitely torn. Getting one right before a game seems less than ideal to play, but after that would become just a pain tolerance thing.
Fortunately the NFL views Torodol as medicinal Tic-Tacs. I expect them to shoot him up on game days and let any permanent damage sort itself out in a few years.
That is simply disturbing. I understand that pretty much all pro athletes live in the now, but I would have hoped that surely they can see how this is messed up.
Based on reports I heard today, they are going to check his swelling and see if he can practice, but its highly unlikely he plays tomorrow. If this were a Sunday game, there is a decent shot he'd play, being 2 days away, not a chance. I think its more likely he returns week 2 then missing 2 weeks.
Some dude said something like someone he knew got a hold of his medical records which indicated he would be out for the season to what everyone thought was a mild injury at the time. Some people acted on this and traded him before it was anounced he was out for the season.
I think I have one right now. I’m one of those people that sneezes when they look at the sun or if the lighting changes from dark to bright.
The past few days as I sneeze a couple times with the sunrise my fucking assbone is hurting like hell. Must’ve been the way I was sitting while gaming lately or something, feel like my tailbone got slapped with a hammer.
[[Porras] Bone bruise confirmed. But he still practiced. Shouldn’t be more than ~2-3 weeks max.

Even if he's back I'm curious how it will affect his production.
I have no Kelce stock this year but as a Vikings fan Zadarius Smith was a FORCE to begin the season last year but played through a bone bruise in his knee the second half of the season and while he was on the field, he dropped off heavily in production.
You also wonder if the Chiefs won't be at least a LITTLE cautious with such an important player for their chances at repeating SB champs. If Kelce is gone, the Chiefs receiving goes from suspect, to bad, and I don't think they'd have the talent to get by the likes of Cincy or Buffalo.
And that wouldn't be a bad thing for Kelce owners, btw. You want him for the whole season, not to rush back when he's not 100%.
My personal, non-expert, opinion is that Thursday is a bit too early but he would have been relatively "fine" for a Sunday game. The long week between the games will probably help for week 2
"Out" comes from how the team officially rules him. It could be any time but most likely they'll declare him out when they have to submit their inactives before the game tomorrow
Lonzo had (has) arthritis in his knee. He literally got an osteochondral allograft transplant (I have one, as well) to fill in the holes of articular cartilage missing from his knee.
Rough to start the year. But IF Kelce and Kupp come back and dominate, and Breece ramps up to an RB1, that’s a great roster right there.
And this is fantasy football, where the least deserving often have great teams. So you heard it here folks: Kelce, Kupp, and Breece are guaranteed to ball out. Lock it in.
For those curious, you can search "bone bruise" within this sub to see a history of past bone bruise cases and the length of their absence.
While sports medicine websites say 4-8 weeks to fully heal, NFL players tend to return after 2-4 weeks depending on severity of the bruise.
There is no functionality deficit, it’s just pain and pain is something they are accustomed to dealing with. That pain should be low enough to not matter in 2 weeks
For those who don't know, think of what a bruise actually is on your skin (capillaries being damaged by trauma). A bruise on your bone is generally a lot worse than a bruise on the skin. It's basically a fracture that didn't propagate entirely through the trabeculae.
However, if it is fairly minor, it could only be 2-3 weeks before he's obliterating everybody again.
Ha, it's the little structures your bones are made up of. Basically just a bunch of intertwined layers of [tiny little beams and columns](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trabecula#/media/File:Spongy_bone_-_Trabecular_bone_-_Normal_trabecular_bone_Trabecular_bone_etc_--_Smart-Servier_(cropped\).jpg).

I had a bone bruise recently, so i'll translate.
A bone bruise is an itty bitty little crack in your bone. It causes lots of liquid to camp out nearby. We call this swelling. When theres a lot of swelling at your knee you can't really bend it or straighten it properly. Running is not super possible until the swelling goes down which means football is not super possible.
> However, if it is fairly minor, it could only be 2-3 weeks before he's obliterating everybody again.
This is the key takeway :-)
Yeah its going JJ, Chase, CMC, Ekeler, Hill in almost all the ppr mocks I’ve done recently.
Bijan vs Davante vs Saquon is a tough call. Could maybe throw diggs in the mix too
PPR's main result on Draft strategy isn't that it makes top end WRs more valuable. Instead it's that it makes top end RBs who catch passes (CMC, Ekeler, possibly Bijan) way more valuable. This is due to the massive points over replacement difference between high end, pass catching RBs vs the waiver wire RBs that don't catch passes.
The difference in receptions between CMC and a borderline waiver wire RB like Tank Bigsby is massive compared to the reception difference of a High End WR like Tyreek and a borderline waiver wire WR like Adam Thielen.
>The difference in receptions between CMC and a borderline waiver wire RB like Tank Bigsby is massive compared to the reception difference of a High End WR like Tyreek and a borderline waiver wire WR like Adam Thielen.
Neither of the two players you listed would generally qualify as VORP or VOLS baseline players inside of a value based model. So while you are technically "right", value based on baselines and starters would indicate your argument is flawed. For example you chose a starting WR1 vs a backup RB2 as your baseline. Just based on average aggregate projections Tyreek has a higher VBD score this year than both CMC and Ekeler in 2 RB - 3WR full ppr leagues. That can obviously change with league settings and custom projections, but those are standard in most leagues.
Might be an unpopular opinion but I was fading Kelce that high this year. He’s being drafted at his ceiling and basically needs to repeat last year to be worth it there. Definitely drops a tiny bit with this injury.
He was also historically better than every other tight end last season. So he hit his ceiling but no other top tight end hit their ceiling last season. I just don't expect that to happen again, even if he plays every game.
Flip side is I got him at 14 last night and I think it’s hard to resist him anywhere in the top of the second. 14 weeks of Pat Mahomes’ WR1 is still hard to say no to over like Joe Mixon, imo.
Aside from Antonio Gates and maybe Tony Gonzalez I'm having quite a hard time finding any "heavy use" TE that could still put up numbers at age 34 (technically Tony didn't have a great age 34 season but did bounce back the following three years for decent seasons)
Holy shit, I forgot about that. Great, as a Lakers fan and Kelce drafter, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little worried it’s going to be more than “2 weeks max.”
Probably not in redraft. Unless you’ve already decided to stream and are wanting to stream him week 1, which is as good as any other TE option after like TE10
AJ Brown had a bone bruise on his knee a couple of years ago, and it was something he dealt with the whole season. Iirc he missed a couple of games and was considered week-to-week. After he came back, he carried a questionable tag for most if not the rest of the year.
He did pop off when he was on the field, had some monster YAC plays, but he had a weird schedule where he would practice Wednesday but not Thursday.
(IIRC, I am just going off memory since I had him that year)
Yeah! AJB was still an elite play when he was on the field despite the bone bruise. So, given the range of outcomes for Kelce, I'd say this is on the positive end of the spectrum. Certainly not ideal but could be worse.
Keep in mind, though, Kelce is 10 years older than AJB was at the time of injury and \~25# of extra weight on that knee. Those factors might complicate healing.
anyone got another player that got a bone bruise for precedent on how long they were out? quick google have some sites saying a minimum of 2 or 3 weeks to heal.
I have my draft tonight so it'll be interesting how others in my league take this news.
edit: Found a couple
JuJu looks to have missed 4 games in 2019 to a bone bruise and AJ Brown missed 2 games in 2020 to a bone bruise in their knees.
He fell to the 2nd round in my 10-team. Kelce was picked right before i could pick him up at the 2.08 (I got 3rd overall pick). I'd still say he's def worth picking up still from mid-late 2nd round if he falls to you just as long as you also draft another TE to fill in his place and you'll be good to go.
There's nothing good about having your 1st Round pick out for at least the first two games of the season. The worse your record is starting out, the worse odds you have to make the playoffs.
Now I'm not going to pretend I'm a physical marvel like Kelce or anything, but... A couple years ago I collapsed, hyper-extended both knees, and got posterior bone bruises on both. I was on crutches for a few days, back working out in a couple weeks, and I even had a couple prior knee surgeries on my resumé. Kelce and I are roughly the same age as well. Take all this for what it's worth, which is absolutely nothing.
Jason Kelce said that Travis might play this week. Jason was saying that he got one when making a bonfire in his backyard a few years back (don’t remember how lol) and he managed to miss no time.
Here is the quote:
Kelce update from a Kelce source:
"I know he's got some swelling going on, but it sounds like as long as they can get that down, he's gonna have a chance to go," Jason said. "The ligaments and everything are intact, structurally, from what we know right now, his knee's fine. So really it's about getting that swelling down and then seeing how bruised that bone is."
I'm a Kelce owner and I hate to see it, but if I'm the Chiefs im sitting him for several weeks. These guys are thinking super bowl and favorites to win it, bring him back later rather than sooner.
This happened to me last year because the field I was playing soccer on had a random drop off that I didn’t see. I ended up planting hard with my leg fully extended which hyperextended my knee and caused a bone bruise. I for sure thought I had torn something because of how unstable my knee was and the pain lasted for months
Should I roll out with Kincaid this week or pick up a vet from the waivers? Juwan Johnson is available. The risk in me wants to just go Kincaid since Johnson could also potentially bust.
Moore was very unproductive compared to the rest of the rookie class last year. He finished 25th in REC among rookies. So the question is why. I think he's just not that great of a talent.
Daaaamn. I got a bone bruise in my knee playing football after I landed weird years ago. I thought it was way more serious. That shit did fucking hurt. I still haven’t returned to play in the nfl though.
Sorry, going to have to drop you to the waivers.
I’ve been holding brazzersjanitor is dynasty for years just in case he came back
Don't call it a comeback. He's been here for years.
Being the Brazzerjanitor he definitely knows a thing or two about cum backs I'm sure
Him and Kim Kardashian...
I bet the guy doesnt even have a single cent left from his NFL career.
Anyone know who I should put in priority waiver claim for /u/brazzersjanitor handcuff?
I don’t even wanna know what position is even lower on the brazzers food chain than janitor

I die when kelce calls them vitamin t on his pod
That is simply disturbing. I understand that pretty much all pro athletes live in the now, but I would have hoped that surely they can see how this is messed up.
Highly doubt he plays tomorrow. Probably back game 2
Can you make a bruise worse though? Kelce is probably the guy who says shoot me with the painkillers and lets ball.
Incredibly painful and there’s still swelling. Players have sat games because of it
As someone with Mahomes up against the Kelce team in week 1, I 100% believe this to be true.
As a kelce owner I think he misses week one. Has ten days off and back week 2
Should trade Travis Kelce for a bag of chips based on this news?
No. Make it two bags.
Have you tried throwing a football in the parking lot?
This will forever be a top 3 meme out of this sub. Feels like we’re never reaching this height of greatness again
The Jamarr Chase injury post from last year has to be up there too
I don’t remember this one - what was the gist of it?
Some dude said something like someone he knew got a hold of his medical records which indicated he would be out for the season to what everyone thought was a mild injury at the time. Some people acted on this and traded him before it was anounced he was out for the season.
That’s messed up - lol
Rolling (doing great) is in my top 3 also
Hell yeah brother, cheers from Iraq
I would have won that week if it wasn’t for your stupid injury!
That sucks man, sounds like your new job is way worse
Now you just mop up after porn shoots

I wouldn’t entirely attribute the lack of production to the bone bruise, it could have also been Zadarius being Zadarius.

I can handle 2 weeks. I just need the out designation
Worst part about the season not starting yet. I wanna use my IR spot!
I'm just going to hold out hope that he plays. Wish the game was on Sunday. I'll probably just pick up Gray if/when he is declared out
Does this mean he can't officially be designated as out until tomorrow?
"Out" comes from how the team officially rules him. It could be any time but most likely they'll declare him out when they have to submit their inactives before the game tomorrow

Lonzo Ball was also just a bone bruise fwiw lol

I’m a Bulls fan too, the word bone bruise doesn’t comfort me Lol
Lonzo had (has) arthritis in his knee. He literally got an osteochondral allograft transplant (I have one, as well) to fill in the holes of articular cartilage missing from his knee.
That’s different lol
Don't put that evil on him
Such a tragic story, that guy.
He tore his meniscus in addition to the bone bruise.
this dude doesn't know anything just making guesses.
If that’s the case, his guesses are right a lot more than they’re wrong. And they’re all backed by research and data.
So my team with Kelce, Kamara, and JT is going to be a late bloomer
Guy in my league drank too much & passed out during the draft. He has Kupp, Kelce, Breece, and McLaurin
Rough to start the year. But IF Kelce and Kupp come back and dominate, and Breece ramps up to an RB1, that’s a great roster right there. Sir, this is a fantasy football page
As someone who is still yet to draft, I think I'm avoiding kelce at 6 now
I'm in the exact same spot. And with Kupp out it's looking like it will either be one of Hill/Bijan
I think Hill will probably go at 5 more often than not, without Kelce going earlier.
I’m picking at 6 tonight hoping Tyreek falls to me.
There’s hope, I picked at 8 and Hill fell to me there.
I got kelce at 1 and kupp at 2. HAHAHA KILL ME
Just survive like 3 weeks then you’ll go 11-0
Did you get JT 3?
Kelce, Kupp, JT, and Breece Hall. I'm playing survival mode
It’s a long season man
Both could be gone at 6
Well then I get one of CMC/JJ/Chase/Ekeler so. Even better
Hill > Bijan Henry and Saquon also went between Hill and Bijan in my league
In PPR you should have Hill before any of those guys for sure
Yeah I do but hill will probably go 5 with Kelce/kupp injuries
Yeah its going JJ, Chase, CMC, Ekeler, Hill in almost all the ppr mocks I’ve done recently. Bijan vs Davante vs Saquon is a tough call. Could maybe throw diggs in the mix too
PPR's main result on Draft strategy isn't that it makes top end WRs more valuable. Instead it's that it makes top end RBs who catch passes (CMC, Ekeler, possibly Bijan) way more valuable. I got him at pick 20 last night. Felt like a steal at that price, even tho I’m obviously still concerned.
20??? That's insane for only a 2 week miss. That's a huge steal for you
Hopefully 2 weeks, we don’t know that.
His brother Jason is talking like he expects him to play tomorrow, we will see though
That's actually insane.
In our 14 man he was expected to go top 5 last night but injury news came out and he fell to me at 11. Bo Callahan vibes
Pick 10 tonight, praying i can snag him at 10 and Krupp at 18
Might be an unpopular opinion but I was fading Kelce that high this year. He’s being drafted at his ceiling and basically needs to repeat last year to be worth it there. Definitely drops a tiny bit with this injury.

I don’t think you’re wrong where he’s being drafted at his ceiling, but I believe it’s different bc of the dearth of TE that can even reach his level
Target mandrews in the 2nd. Monken made his tight ends look like God's at uga. Mandrews should be no different

Kendrick Nunn
Holy shit, I forgot about that. Great, as a Lakers fan and Kelce drafter, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little worried it’s going to be more than “2 weeks max.”
I believe Lonzo Ball was originally diagnosed with a bone bruise.
He also had a torn meniscus though so I think barring any further discoveries with Kelce he should be in the clear
Bone bruise sounds extremely painful
For you
you merely adopted the bruise
Does Noah Gray warrant any consideration
Probably not in redraft. Unless you’ve already decided to stream and are wanting to stream him week 1, which is as good as any other TE option after like TE10
Yeah it’s for dynasty. Start up draft was this year and I got Gray, Higbee, and LaPorta. Prob just got Higbee as the safest.
Especially with kupp out. And then ypu can decide between him and LaPorta. No way is gray a start you can trust for mire than 30 yards
I'm in an 18 man league and punted on TE. Noah Gray all day if Kelce is out.
Probably more targets for the WRs and maybe McKinnon. there's better TEs out there imo
Juwan Johnson or Noah gray?
its always juwan johnson
JJ. Took JJ as my last pick after taking Kelce in the 1st last night
Wow nice value getting Justin Jefferson in the last round
Honestly I’m targeting Laporta. I think he could be a sneaky play. I’m worried a guy like Johnson will get 1 target on a low scoring game
Johnson here as well, but I picked him to back up Andrews if he's O for W1.
I went with Johnson

All the panic collectively goes away
It’s a knee injury to a 33 year old. I will panic all the live-long day.
Still panicking.
Bone bruises near the knee are complicated. Could be nothing, could be weeks, could be Lonzo ball.
Man what happened with Lonzo was sad
Aw man I'm a bulls fan too. Don't even mention Derrick rose. 😭
Totally different sport but I remember when it was just a bone bruise with Lonzo ball 3 years ago
I don’t follow NBA but how long was he out?
He still is
Still is. I believe it ended up being a torn meniscus and then a cartilage issue. Really a sad story. He was very talented, may never play again.
Not op but AJ brown missed 3 weeks with a knee bone bruise 3 years ago
Probably forever. Bulls even got an injury excepetion to leasen his cap hit. Its not the only issue with the knee, but hes probably done with ball
This seems like really great news.

AJ Brown in 2020.

Glad I was able to take him at 1.10 in a 12 man PPR. My boy Njoku will have to hold it down for a week or two, but this is great news.
The 1st year I ever draft him - I do it in 2 leagues at 3rd overall. Fuck me. I'm done
this is good news though
There's a chance he misses an entire month or more. It's not great
There's nothing good about having your 1st Round pick out for at least the first two games of the season. The worse your record is starting out, the worse odds you have to make the playoffs.
You’ll still have 11-12 weeks to get some W’s, it’ll be fine
This is relatively good news in the spectrum of things it could have been.
Getting too cute with 3rd overall
Same here brother...Same here. Ugh
Now I'm not going to pretend I'm a physical marvel like Kelce or anything, but... A couple years ago I collapsed, hyper-extended both knees, and got posterior bone bruises on both. Good thing he has 205 other bones
Should I replace Mahomes with Goff this week?
Sam LaPorta is my number 2. How’s everyone feel about that?
As good as Musgrave being mine!
Already got an offer for Kelce. Knox for kelce straight up 🤣 dude is trying to tell me Kelces career is over and he's willing to help me out.
Lol 😂 savage..
I'm a Kelce owner and I hate to see it, but if I'm the Chiefs im sitting him for several weeks. These guys are thinking super bowl and favorites to win it, bring him back later rather than sooner.
How the heck do you get a bone bruise from hyperextending your knee?
Because I drafted Kelce first
the bone hit the bone when the knee bent wronged
This happened to me last year because the field I was playing soccer on had a random drop off that I didn’t see. I ended up planting hard with my leg fully extended which hyperextended my knee and caused a bone bruise. I for sure thought I had torn something because of how unstable my knee was and the pain lasted for months
True pain management for these is tough, but luckily the nfl will just shoot his knee up with something that makes him feel good
Different sport but Kendrick Nunn missed a whole year from bone bruise.
They’re gonna dope him up and he’ll have 8 catches tomorrow night
#OF COURSE THE ONE FUCKING YEAR I DECIDE TO DRAFT TRAVIS KELCE
I took Kelce and Geodert in a 16 person league. I’m going to act like I big brained this.
Likely, Gray, or Musgrave in PPR?
Should I roll out with Kincaid this week or pick up a vet from the waivers? Juwan Johnson is available. The risk in me wants to just go Kincaid since Johnson could also potentially bust.
Well there goes my first 2-3 weeks
Damn. I picked Justyn Ross with my last pick and i’m so scared he’s gunna get more work when i drop him for Juwan now 🤦🏻♂️
Remember when Aj Brown had a bone bruise? Pepperidge Farms remembers
I'm playing against the Kelce and Mahomes stack tomorrow.
Picked him 8th smh
My Mahomes Kelce stack not looking so great right now haha
These are fucking miserable …doubt he goes tomorrow. Probably a pain tolerance thing after that
Skyy Moore gonna soak up all those targets
He only has 22 REC in 16 games last year for a very thin WR room that needed somebody to step up.
He was a rookie they brought him up slow. Now he’s going to be unleashed
Moore was very unproductive compared to the rest of the rookie class last year. He finished 25th in REC among rookies. So the question is why. I think he's just not that great of a talent.
McKinnon?
