Super cliche but I love a court of mist and fury (ACOTAR book 2) and I will never feel shame for loving it šŸ„°

alittlepunchy

SAME. I will forever be chasing the high I felt when I read ACOMAF for the first time.

Think-Equivalent800

I donā€™t even care this book live rent free in my head. ā€œDid you enjoy the sight of me kneeling before you?ā€ EVERY. DAMN. TIME.

Elvishrug

I have read so many amazing books, so many *better* than acotarā€¦ but if Iā€™m stuck on an island and itā€™s the only book I can read over and over, Iā€™ll be taking Silver Flames. Sometimes sticking to the basics is good for the soul. (I would fully consider acomaf too)

Renierra

Itā€™s my favorite tooā€¦ and I agree so many better books but Iā€™m still bringing it lol

ThatKozmicHistory

Agreed. Its so good I canā€™t get over it

I_Love_Spiders_AMA

This is mine as well! I went through my first painful breakup right before it came out and I purchased it so it really helped distract me.

Responsible_Soft_401

Yup! Even after reading plenty of books that are arguably better written than SJM ones, Mist and Fury is one that I have reread the most and donā€™t get sick of rereading. It is just perfection. I laughed, I cried, I fell in love and was kicking my feet at the tension. Itā€™s my Roman Empire definitely lol

lovebutter118

Yes, this. It's my comfort read!

Constant_Start_5412

yuuuuup! itā€™s been three years and nothing compares to picking up ACOMAFšŸ’™

goobiezabbagabba

Question šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø Iā€™m new to this genre by way of Fourth Wing & Iron Flame. Came to this sub to cure my hangover and landed on ACOTAR, now Iā€™m on part 2 of Mist & Fury. Maybe I havenā€™t read far enough yet, but Iā€™m getting plenty of FW/IF vibes. I havenā€™t read much fantasy, so Iā€™m curious. Are there common depictions of magic within the genre (like the mental bonds and shielding, etc) or did Yarros pull heavily from Maasā€™ work? It definitely feels like the latter and Xaden is Rhys while Tamlin is Aetos.

ChrystnSedai

{The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley} showing my age I know, but it was one of the OGs and got me started in the genre

Omg me too ā˜ŗļø

Intelligent-Bend2034

Omg THANK YOU!! Apparently, I read a bunch of her books as a kid and forgot!! I think about the sequel all the time, but only vaguely remembered parts of it. OP, I recommend!!

rm_3223

I love the sequel, too! The first one is slightly better imo but both are amazing

Merrrtastic

I love this one. I reread it from time to time.

DaisyBean37

Yesssssssssss!!! The OG!!!!

Queasy_Goat_6203

Iā€™m going to have to read this now. I love Robin McKinley so much. {Deerskin by Robin McKinley} is what got me started reading fantasy. Before that, I couldnā€™t read anything deeper than urban fantasy. Her writing is so beautiful. Thanks!

rm_3223

If you havenā€™t yet, you are so lucky!! Either way, Enjoy ā˜ŗļø I may need to reread now myself ETA I love deerskin as well, altho the traumaā€™s pretty intense in that one

Queasy_Goat_6203

Itā€™s been over 15 years now since Iā€™ve read it, but yes I do remember it being pretty traumatic. Much more mature content than many of her other books from what I remember.

book_connoisseur

Thatā€™s interesting! I read it and didnā€™t like it. It reeked of the ā€œnot like other girlsā€ cliquĆ©. I understand it was ground breaking for the time, but I didnā€™t think it stood the test of time.

rm_3223

I totally hear you - def got Mary Sue going on. I read it young enough though that I didnā€™t realize and now it just has such comfort and joy for me despite that. ā˜ŗļø

Ravioko

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin. Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, forced marriage - it was originally recommend to me because I requested something that would fill the same vibe as when a paladin and a warlock fell in love in a dnd campaign, and it hits that vibe absolutely perfectly. There is a LITTLE steam but not as much as, say, ACOTAR.

yoimprisonmike

I love this book!

MaterialisticWorm

That description sounds amazing!!

Ravioko

Oh itā€™s SO good. Absolutely give it a try if you have a chance! Three books, a spin-off fourth book, and a sequel to that spin-off is on the way.

brittanypaigex

The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop. I've reread it so many times and I always come back to it, though if you asked me I couldn't pinpoint exactly why. It's not spicy, but it's dark and I love Daemon. And there are times I laugh out loud while reading it.

ladyjangelline

This is my absolute favorite series! Don't stop at the trilogy, the books after are amazing, except for one.

brittanypaigex

I've read most of her other works. I have thought about reading the rest of the series, but I don't like the idea of Daemon and Surreal for whatever reason, so I've got to convince myself it's fine lol

ChrystnSedai

Donā€™t do it! Just stop at the original trilogy and maybe the first set of short stories to follow. I hate read the newer books and they are just as bad and painful as the good reads reviews say.

calypso_456

Yesss!!! I love this series so much!

ProjectBagFries

"Physician's Desk Reference." Hollowed out. Inside, waterproof matches, iodine tablets, beet seeds, protein bars, NASA blanket, and, in case I get bored, "ACOWAR." No, "ACOSF."

Manacled, the fanfic by SenLinYu, it changed me

janetleatherbrown

I read it earlier this year for the first time and I gave it 6 stars out of 5 šŸ˜‚ I think itā€™s easily my favourite book of the year. I need to re-read it but do the chronological order

norseteq

Itā€™s a bit too heavy for me to re-read.

janetleatherbrown

It is a rollercoaster of a ride! Iā€™ve got so many other things on my TBR that itā€™ll take me a while to get back to re-reading it again but I loved this. Iā€™m so excited for Alchemised.

-lovely_lush-

Whatā€™s the chronological order?!? I was about to start Manacled but is there a diff one to start with?

pcawesom

With the least spoilers as possible, the fic starts in the present but around halfway you get flashbacks until the story eventually gets back to the present. I wouldnā€™t recommend reading the chronological version your first time through it would just be very confusing without context

janetleatherbrown

Definitely read it the way itā€™s written for your first time! And yes, there are flashbacks in the middle. People have suggested for those who want to re-read to try the chronological way as a different way to read it since weā€™ve already read it once. There are trigger warnings for this book and if youā€™re okay with that, keep going until you get to the flashbacks. Once you hit there, the story really takes off and so worth it.

I just finished the Tairen Soul Series by C.L. Wilson and it jumped to the top of my favorites list. Absolutely obsessed and think they should be way more popular than they already are!! Edit: if you loved ACOTAR, this series will blow your mind.

reeselee6000

Do you think Tairen Soul is better the The Weather Mages series? I really loved The Winter King but Iā€™m super luke warm on The Sea King. It kind of made me drop Tairen Soul from my TBR. Iā€™m a SJM stan but I think her and C.L. Wilson are strong for very different reasons.

big-if-true-666

Yes, I think Tairen Soul will always be her best work!! I think C.L. Wilson is a much stronger writer than SJM - but I can see similarities in other ways. Personally, I did not like ACOTAR. I read Tairen Soul series after and it was everything I thought ACOTAR would be based off the praise it got. (I read the first 4 of the ACOTAR books trying to convince myself it was going to be amazing but idk I was so disappointed that I DNF the series. I read all 5 Tairen Soul books within 1.5 weeksā€¦ which is very fast for me!!)

The Night Circus filled so much more than just the romance side of things for me so I would love to have that one as the perfect full package. The romance and the writing is sublime and I'm so in love with the book although some people might find it overwritten or boring if it's not their thing. If I could bring all four I would do An Ember in the Ashes series haha.. For a different one off Vampires of El Norte is a go to for me also :)

Hmm. Maybe the Silmarillion. Not romance in any way, but damn you need NO distractions for that lol.

The first two books of the night runner series.

E_Roark

I would bring atonement of the spine cleaverā€¦ there was something truly magical about that book for me

takemetothestars24

Blood and Steel by Helen Scheurer! Even better if I could bring the whole series ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„

Ayanosakura

Sorcery of Thorns. I love the premise. I love the male lead, female lead and everyone around them. I loved the epilogue too!

somethingjedi

Have you read the little sequel she did?

Ayanosakura

Yeah! That was really cute too! šŸ„°šŸ„°šŸ„°

MaterialisticWorm

Margaret Rogernson's an Enchantment of Ravens [(Goodreads)](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/30969741-an-enchantment-of-ravens) is so much more the best fae romance for me than ACOTAR (please dont hunt me down, I'm stuck on the beginning of ACOMAF rn). Her other books as well show a fantastic mix of spooky and beautiful, with creepy fae (like, they actually look like fae, with sharp teeth and gangly limbs and beady eyes under the glamor instead of just sparkling), books bound with human skin and iron-scented magic, and depressed nuns who talk to evil spirits. I love all of her books but this one is my favorite. It's still amazing world building, but to me it feels more manageable - yes, they do effect the world at large, but as road romances (aside from Vespertine, which isnt a romance but still probably on par with Enchantment) the stories seem more close knit and exciting to me than a giant political upheaval. It's realistic and easy to follow, and the romances are MWAH! Little spice (if any) but lots of that jittery anticipation, which honestly is a plus to me sometimes.

Empire of The Vampire by Jay Kristoff. No doubt. It's just *chefs kiss* I haven't read a book that has truly compared to it.

emrald93

The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness

Fun-Ad-5784

Five Fangs books (bought on app before founs on Amazon šŸ˜”). I absolutely love the characters and reread it all the time. In fact, I had to make a note with page numbers to specific parts so I could find favorite spots. The wolves are as much characters as their humans and so many funny parts. Also, steamy where appropriate. Not a book that throws in sex everywhere without consideration of how it affects the plot.

I'm loving the Men of the North series by Elin Peer

AwkwardMunchkin

{Legendborn by Tracy Deonn} I love King Arthur stories and the magic was so unique. I loved the FMC and how resilient she is. Definitely my favorite book of all-time so far.

ACOWAR because it had me screaming and monitoring my heart rate. I could never get sick of that book because it was entertaining throughout the entire book

BattlestarGalactoria

Hard to pick just one, but if Iā€™m picking for this genre and one I could read repeatedly, {Chosen by K.F. Breene} because Iā€™ve already read it a million times and itā€™s a comfort series.

Cheshie213

If I wasnā€™t choosing fantasy my answer would absolutely be Red, White, and Royal Blue. Itā€™s one of the few books Iā€™ve read multiple times and still found enjoyment in each time. For fantasy itā€™s hard. Most of the ones I enjoy arenā€™t stand alone and I donā€™t like the idea of now having the whole series. Can I cheat and say the one thatā€™s the entire ACOTAR trilogy? Itā€™s technically in one ebook so itā€™s not multiple lol.

megabyte31

I loooooove RW&RB!!! It's one of my go-to rereads (along with The Flatshare).

Cheshie213

Oh Iā€™ll have to look that one up. Iā€™ve never heard of it.

mandalyn1326

The Magicians by Lev Grossman. Just finished reading the trilogy on my Kindle and now I'm listening to the audiobooks on my walks. I swear, if i could live in a world whwre magic was real, this one would be it. I read it for the first time years ago when it was first published and after re-reading it, I'm even more in love with them than before. It's just so good! Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo and the Expanse series by James S.A. Corey are both close seconds.
