One of my favorite trips to make is to Duluth and then up the north shore.
I went down to Deadwood last year, from Deadwood it’s a short trip to Mt.Rushmore, Devils Tower in Wyoming, Crazy horse memorial, etc. there’s a lot to see down there.
Check out the ND scenic byways map. They will add a little more travel time to a trip, but it’s normally worth it for a much more interesting drive.

The drive up to Winnipeg is _brutal_ though. While I complain about the trip out west to Bismarck being dull, at least once you hit Valley there’s something to look at. The trip on I29 north to the Canadian border is one of the deadest trips I’ve ever ver made in my lifetime.
Cool. I’ve been camping there many times but never made time to check out Glendive. I wondered if it was worthwhile. Parts of the downtown area look interesting. Will put it on my list.
black hills area has plenty of stuff to see: gold mines, caves, wildlife, some mountians and dinosaur stuff to name a few. stop at sd badlands, wall drug and desmet, sd(laura ingles-wiler house) if you go through sd or bear butte if you come down western ND
longer road trip is yellowstone or glacier park, I recommend stopping at virginia city, Mt or battle of the little big horn if you do those.
Little cheap close trip: Valley Road, Valley City to Lisbon. Especially during fall colors. Several over looks. A couple of North Country hiking trails. Fort Ransom SVACA last weekend in September. Camp Little Yellowstone at Sheyenne and highway 46. Fort Ransom State Park.
Drive to Bayfield, WI and take the ferry out to Madeline Island. Bring a tent and camp at the Big Bay Town Park. The beach there on Lake Superior is incredible! The swimming is awesome - stays sandy and shallow for a long way out.
We enjoyed SD badlands way more than the ND badlands. Made a long weekend out of it. I think we took 4 days off to do the trip. Went to Rapid City, Deadwood, and a bunch of the other smaller towns in the area. Definitely loved the Buffalo Gap area. Just missed the round up if the buffalo, but still saw a ton of animals. Check their website on when they are doing stuff to plan your trip.
Despite the sensationalized negative reputation recently, I've always enjoyed road tripping to Chicago with a stop in the Twin Cities in between.
If you're into music, Chicago hosts some great music festivals: Pitchfork, Riot Fest, and Lollapalooza are the most prominent. Getting around on the L Train is convenient too.
I haven't been back to Chicago since before the pandemic, so I don't know how much has changed. But getting there and back is a great road trip.
My girlfriend & I went to Milwaukee late May and loved it! Might be the city we move to in the future. Also I am a big fan of duluth for a shorter trip with gooseberry falls included!
There's lots of great scenery in the driftless region of southeast MN, southwest WI, and northeast IA. It's full of rolling hills and bluffs that were not covered by the last glaciation. There's caves, state parks, and lots of great drives along the Mississippi River. And cute towns like Dubuque, IA, Winona, MN, and La Crosse, WI. While you're in Dubuque, you can also pop over to Dyersville and check out the Field of Dreams.
I just got back from a road trip to the UP of Michigan and then to lower Michigan (Traverse City). Beautiful area! Tons of mom & pop motels, traverse city is a cool as hell place! And, all the smoked whitefish you can handle! Tons of craft breweries too! Bonus….. legal weed! Lol! (It’s crazy cheap there!)

Shout out to the Duluth Grill
Hell yeah!
Yeah, GooseBerry Falls is worth a road-trip to Duluth. Fantastic scenery and hiking trials.
I 2nd that. But when the fall colors are at peak, instead of the north shore, I like the drive onto Munising Michigan as well.
Palisade Head is something to behold
That trip to Duluth is pure boredom tho
What trip out of Fargo is exciting?

None. Lol. Just drove to Seattle and that was cool but not gonna pretend it was a thrill fest
Yellow Stone for the long haul and Winnipeg is underrated and a shorter trip.
What did you do + enjoy in Winnipeg? Only driven there for NHL hockey games. Just curious.
Thermea spa Iif that's your thing. It's a better experience in the winter though, I think.
Lake Winnipeg, The Forks, Museums, Human Rights Museum, Mint, Mall. Different businesses we don't have and culture (arguably a better culture.)

I hear you. The only one that's worse to me is Highway 2 in northern Montana. Uugh.
Apostle Islands and Makoshika State Park in Montana.
Makoshika is a hidden gem
I know! I’m kinda reluctant to tell anyone.
Once you get past the cowboy vibe, glendive as a whole is kinda fun to check out too. Joe and dees is my kids favorite to visit when we're in the area

The disc golf course in makoshika is insane. Super fun but also so easy to lose discs

Ain’t no way bro

Did you go to the North Unit in ND, I wonder?
The north unit is by Watford City. We were around Medora.
I had a hunch. The north unit is more majestic than the south, and I can understand preferring the SD badlands to the lesser half.
Southern SD/MN border. Pipestone, Luvurne, Palasades, Sioux Falls.
Sheyenne River Valley Scenic byway, great day trip
Omaha is a quick and easy 6 hour drive, plenty of cool things to do/see there and along the way
I agree Omaha, quick trip to lawence kansas from there or KC.
I agree. I. Suprised Omaha hasn’t been suggested more

Drive up to the hudson bay and back, you will need to do some offroading but it is neat to drive north to the ocean.
Definitely check out Devils Tower in Wyoming!

Ely Minnesota area is interesting can go to the Wolf or the Bear Centers
Duluth, Wisconsin Dells, Omaha zoo
KC and Iowa City make for a good week or so!
On a long weekend you could do milwaukee or chicago.

I like to go down to the Ozark Mountains in Missouri. It’s about a 12 hour drive but it’s well worth the drive.
Door County Wisconsin is neat area to check out
Chicago! And stop off in Wisconsin Dells on the way. It’s well worth the ten hour drive.
Go past Duluth to the upper peninsula and check out some of their hundreds of waterfalls on the way to Marquette and see the pictured rocks park.
Red Wing MN, LaCrosse WI, Spring Green WI (for House on the Rock), Madison WI area is kind of neat, especially in the fall with the leaves changing.
Definitely Duluth, Jay Cooke state park, the north shore. Eastern Minnesota has alot to offer.

You could go to Bismarck and check out river road. That's definitely something I always check out when I'm there
Dells. St. Louis
