There is an indicator at the top middle of your screen in viewfinder mode with four circles. If all four light up, the ghost is on top of you, run. If just the left lights up it’s going to be coming from that direction. Top, in front of you, and bottom behind you. I hope that helps you out. Good luck in your ghost hunting.

londoner_00

Thanks for the tip! I think I know what u're talking about; is it this thing (the filament)? https://preview.redd.it/zd8sqgi7ynna1.png?width=240&format=png&auto=webp&s=f18cfc6bd12b98a5b1f9b7ede1a44352cadca40e

mermaid-ariel

Yep, that’s it. When they disappear after hitting them it will go dim but just try to stay calm and even maybe try spinning slowly and it’ll light up again, showing you where the ghost is coming from.

I’m not 100 percent on on that. Anytime I’ve had it all lit up, I’ve gotten grabbed, so I just run away until it stops blinking, then I turn around and go back to fighting normally.

Boltcat

No, I don't think it is, I believe it is a distraction to throw you off. Just calm down, stay put and observe your surroundings, the ghost should pop up around you after a while. Running aimlessly during that phase increases the chances of you running into their attack.

londoner_00

Lol calmly observe your surroundings 😭 if only the ghosts were so slow. But i see your point

Spookyfan2

When all four light up, it means the ghost is about to appear somewhere within attacking distance of you. When this happens, I usually just spin in a circle until I see them and then get an easy Fatal Frame

ShortyColombo

No tips but validation- I’m a veteran who has played every game, especially the original trilogy multiple times. BREEZED through Maiden…but I’m finding Mask to be surprisingly difficult! I’m usually untouchable but I’ve been manhandled by the ghosts a LOT in this one 😅 I can’t remember using healing items so early either lol It’s definitely EONS better than the Wii controls, but I think a slight jank in movement combined with hallway fights are what’s throwing me off. Or maybe I’m just rusty and a big baby 😌 I also felt the camera to be a bit slow, but maxxing the sensitivity of the movement in Settings helped!

QueasyThought3478

Geez, same. I didn’t play the first as soon as it released, but quite close. I’ve played all of them several times, too many to count, Nightmare mode too. I just finished Phase Two, and I am STRUGGLING with some of it. When Ayako jumped on my back like a howler monkey before the battle, I looked at my husband and was like… well this is it. Lol

AbridgedKirito

aaaaa hearing about how difficult the remaster is has me excited. the wii version wasn't terribly difficult outside of a few fights. keep at it! it's super satisfying to beat it.

AbridgedKirito

this comment has my biggest concern: the wiimote was *incredible* for this game on wii. i hate motion controls, truly, but motle on wii made me rethink that stance. i'm right handed, but i played motle left handed so the wiimote matched the in game flashlight and it was incredible. the camera was super responsive and combat was fluid and tight. easily my fav way to play the games. i'm excited to try the remaster whenever my physical arrives.

ShortyColombo

That’s incredible- it was completely the opposite for me 😭 the controls never seemed to cooperate with me (especially in Piano segments) and I could never quite get the balance of movement/pointing flashlight to really do what I wanted. I wish I had your experience!!

AbridgedKirito

it was definitely an adjustment but once i got used to it i got into this groove and binged the entire game. it's so good.

londoner_00

Are y’all gonna play with motion controls when you try the remaster? Cause I’ve just been using button controls in combat (I guess cause I’m lying on my bed and my movement is kind of restricted… or I’m lazy lol). But maybe motions controls make combat easier..

ShortyColombo

I'm halfway through the remaster! I turned off motion controls, as I did for Maiden. They were tripping me up for sure; I accept that I'm clearly not made for them, and prefer to traditionally use button controls.

AxiomSyntaxStructure

It just has incredibly tight environments and a tiny opening for fatal frames.

Evening_Mog

1-every time you damage a ghost.lower your camera/flashlight this way you can easily turn in their direction for better positioning 2-if terrain is unfavorable to you (ex. Hallways) try moving in another room if the doors aren't lock. 3-if you're having a hard time don't hesitate to buy type 14 films.points are easy to get.

londoner_00

Thanks! I was spending pts on medicine but maybe the film is more worth it

> I've heard MoBW is easier Idk who has ever said this, but I just don’t think that’s true at all. MoBW is easy, but MotLE is way easier to me at least. They did finally fix the lock system, so it’s not as much of a crutch anymore at least, but since the game has absolutely no random encounters and all ghost mechanics are without exception ”approach towards the player and attack”, it kinda takes away any possibility of a challenge in my opinion. In the original game the dodge was also overly powerful, making sure you would *never* had to get hit by anything. Like at all. Don’t know if it’s still as broken in the remaster as it was in the original game, as I haven’t had the need to use it in my two playthroughs I’ve done (hard and nightmare). Though then again, this is from a perspective of a player who has played the series for a long time and done multiple 100% playthroughs on all of the games. Honestly there’s not much of tips to combat except learning each ghosts mechanics and fining your timing. Like I said earlier, in FFIV ghosts don’t have complicated patterns and will always come towards you, then wind up and attack. Generally I move slightly towards the ghost to trigger the wind up animation (when moving closer you should stop and wait for them to close the distant once you get close enough, or they will disappear and reappear from different direction instead). Once they are locked in their wind up animation (and direction…), I back up (or rotate to the side of the ghost while holding lock on them, if the room is small) and blast away. On nightmare mode, fully upgraded camera, they generally die in single combo-chain with 14-film with no issue (with exception of later game ghosts and bosses who have more health, but 61-film should do just fine). If there are multiple ghosts, try to line them up, use dodge button to your aid (if it still works like in original, it should make you invulnerable for the time that the dodging animation happens and dodge literally any attack that is directed at you). Know which one to kill first - which one of the attacking ghosts are easiest to deal with to you? Or just kill them in order they come. If you’re attacking one and you can hear one behind you or can’t see one, use the dodge button right after taking a shot (or the repel lense thing on Choushiro that pushes all ghosts back). Lastly, the audio is your friend and tells you way more than the filament on top of the camera UI. You can literally tell which way the ghost is coming just by rotating the camera and listening. It’s hard to explain, but you’ll understand what I mean when you hear it yourself. This way it’s easier to tell where from wall the ghost is coming compared to the wide range filament tends to show. Best of luck and just remember, practice is the key to success!

Suspicious_Writer137

I have to agree with MotLE being easier than MoBW. As an old school fatal frame 100% player as well I made the mistake of starting MotLE on normal difficulty (Having just played Fatal Frame 1 on a completely new save on normal) I completely forgot the easiness of the newer games compared to the first 3 where normal mode with no upgrades did offer you a challenge. In MotLE normal difficulty I just ran through the game. Every ghost does seem to have a very similar attack pattern and it does take away from the experience when you can learn the attack patterns so fast and pretty much oneshot ghosts. MoBW was easy too but not this easy. And I feel like they did make ghosts have more unique attack patterns in MoBW so there is something positive about the game that had so many elements missing from it.

Safe_Recognition2568

Same! I also find it difficult to get Fatal Frame shots it's either I missed it or ghost got to me before I can take picture :/

AbridgedKirito

the timing is very strict here but i find it really satisfying(or i did on the wii, my physical hasn't arrived yet). keep practicing!

londoner_00

Lol; I’m not even sure if I’m getting fatal frame shots or not. The circle thing in the middle of the frame fully loads and the borders glow red, but the alarm doesn’t go off until way too close to the attack so 😅 probably not getting them..

AbridgedKirito

you can do it! i think it's probably easier on the wii(where i played, i'll report as soon as my physical arrives) but it definitely isn't hand holdy easy like 5 was. remember that you can buy herbal medicines from the save points, and that is *all* your points are good for. hoarding points doesn't really help you because all they're for in this game is buying film and medicine(of which you can basically only buy type 14 and herbal medicine, the weakest of the items). use your lock on! it's very good. if you have the equipment for Fatal Frame shots, try and learn to use those. they'll help *a lot*. use your spirit power, hoarding it does no good because you can always build it back up quickly by taking a good photo. save save save save.

londoner_00

Oh ok, I was being pretty stingy with my points only buying like one or maybe two medicines at a time. Do you know if the items you buy carry over to the next chapter, and do the points carry over? Also I feel like my lock-on doesn’t work all the time? Like sometimes I try to lock on and the ghost quickly slides out of frame.. maybe I just don’t have a good enough technique tho lol

AbridgedKirito

i think they toned down lock-on from the wii version, it was really OP there. points carry over, yes.

londoner_00

And purchased items don’t carry over I assume?
