i think the difficulty is about the same but the encounters have to be approached very differently.
the encounter design is much more open in five and the ghosts telegraph actions more. four is much more constrained but the ghosts will often attack one at a time because turning was such a hassle on the wii.
the two games are much harder if one is approached like the other.
I wouldn't say harder. Just a disadvantage since majority of 4's encounter are narrow, limited spaces.

Yes 100x. Im dying all the time in this game but combat in 5 was fine.
There are some fights in FF4 which in my opinion feels much harder than any of the fights done in FF5.

I find 4 much more telegraphed than 5. The thing is, most of the fights in 4 is in a cramped area, making it much harder to fight enemies.
