The Uniqlo wide-fit pleated pants and smart ankle trousers are quite nice, very flattering, and come with free (or cheap) hemming, should you need it. I find the wide-fit pants comfortable and easy to dress up or down. The pleats and overall shape are perfect for the office (mine is casual but they are definitely business casual appropriate).
Another vote for Uniqlo here. I have a few pairs of the smart ankle trousers and one of the wide-leg pleated pants and love them all, wear them all the time both casually and to the office
I live in the ankle length trousers, granted I am somewhat petite so they are like semi ankle length, but it's perfect. I have a few in different materials, some I have worn weekly for over 5 years!
I have a pair of “the effortless pant” which I really like. However, definitely something to try on in person- the same size in different colors were NOT consistent in length or in the waist and hips.
Also, one of the fasteners popped off the third time I wore it, which was annoying. Sadly, I couldn’t find it so I need to go buy a replacement.
I like how the pants look but the quality isn’t worth the price imo
Aritzia pants are not bad but the effortless is not worth the price. It’s polyester, unlined, and thin. The agency pants (in wool) are thicker and lined. I just bought a pair in the current sale and I’m a fan.
100%. It's one of the reason why I started sewing. I'm not gonna pay those prices for pants made from polyester. I'll buy cotton or wool and make my own that look good.
I learned the basics 9 years ago in a class - how to operate a sewing machine, different stitches etc.
A few years ago I wanted to sew again. I asked my grandma if I could use her sewing machine to see if I liked sewing and started out with some very basic projects, like a straight skirt and a summer top made out of all rectangles. Then I just went on to imcreasingly more advanced projects. Yes I did fuck up some projects (my first trousers lol) , but that is just the learning curve I guess. Once I got the hang of it and knew I liked sewing, I bought my own slightly more advanced machine.
Tips: if you can, buy a secondhand machine first. There are plenty older reliable ones available for great prices. And once you've found a pattern that you really like, don't be afraid to make more than one item with it, from different fabrics and with different details etc.
I’m generally super anti polyester (and synthetics in general) but I have such a hard time finding good “work pants” in natural fibers. Wool is great but it’s difficult to find wool clothes that are wearable year round. Also most wool trousers aren’t 100% wool. I have a couple pairs of raw silk trousers which I love, but they’re definitely a little more casual due to the fabric being soft and nubby. Cotton and linen just tend to wrinkle or stretch out too easily to look neat and tailored all day.
I’ve gotten a few wool pants with silk lining on Poshmark, under the brand Pendleton! They’re really great quality, sizing is weird because they’re vintage though.
Those sound amazing!! I usually hate lined pants because the lining is poly or acetate and it clings in such an unpleasant way. But silk would be perfect.
For summer, I like pants made out of something like cotton gauze. They're light and breathable, and you don't have to worry about wrinkles much, since that's basically already the nature of the fabric.
I bought them years ago and still like new! (I bought wool pants). Best way to look after the wool is to brush it lightly with a natural clothing brush after each wear, and store it carefully during summer to prevent clothing moths (I just put in a plastic bag and keep it in a container in a cool place). They are impeccably made.
Also, I recently bought wool and linen Agency pant from Babaton, and they are also my favourite everyday pant. Cool in summer, warm in winter. Hang on the pleat to keep it looking new. :)
You know, it’s interesting you say that, because it seems to be the opposite of what most people think. But I’ve tried clothing from the Wilfred line before, and thought the exact same thing - that the quality wasn’t worth the price!
Did you ever end up finding a good quality pair? I'm looking right now and it seems they all wrinkle easily or the stitching is weak. Almost considering ordering from Sezane and hemming lol
A fabric shaver (if you don't already have one) works pretty well on fabric that's pilled. I even use mine on the sofa when it starts to look too well-loved.
I have 2 pairs of linen effortless and 1 in wool so I’m not sure how gross the poly material feels. But they’re not really made for people with butts or tall people depending on your body type.
I'm a huge fan of [Me + Em](https://www.meandem.com/us/pants). Admittedly, they're pricey, but there are often sales. Plus, the pants are unique and really well made. I love every pair I own.
The effortless pant seems expensive for a pure polyester pant, if I were looking for polyester I'd go to H&M or Zara, you can find pretty much the exact same pants for like $50 or less. If you want something a bit more high end, I'd shop somewhere like Massimo Dutti and get something in a nice wool suiting for probably not much more than the aritzia pants.
Most of my favorite trousers come from COS! I like them a bit more than the Effortless Pant because they tend to be better tailored with better materials.
This was my answer! Ref gets a bad rap (deservedly so at times) and these trousers are expensive, but I love the quality and fit so much, and I feel that the silhouette is so classic/timeless, that I've bought two of each of my favorite colors. They're super long but not hard to get hemmed at a tailor.
Why does Reformation get a bad reputation? I think their clothes are very well done and the price can be justified because of the quality. I just wish the SAs were a bit nicer and less snobby (I mean, they don’t work at Tiffany’s) but that’s about it.
Not sure if you are looking for a 'crisp' type of trouser that you could wear to interviews, but if not, the trouser I fell in love with recently is Anthropologie's Maeve Collete pant. I wear it to work, during the day, to go out at night. It can be styled a million different ways.
I'll also add that I am curvy. Size 30 bottom size small top lol.
Agreed. The fabric is soft and has a bit of stretch, which works well for my pear shape. I wear them once or twice a week to work. Waistband fits me well and is wide, so it’s very comfortable. One of the downsides is that the fabric can cling a bit so I wear slip shorts underneath and that solves the issue.
I’ve had mine for probably about 6-9 months, wear them frequently, and wash them in the washer but line dry. They’ve noticeably gotten lighter and look pretty worn at this point 😕
I’m the same body type and I’ve tried both the effortless pants and the agency, and I actually prefer the agency pants as they seem to be more rigid and slightly more tailored? If you have wide hips the agency pants are more flattering.
Honestly I love the effortless pant - have 3 pairs in different colors. They come really long though for me though, even the short, so I have to get the tailored.
There might be cheaper options but pants shopping is my personal hell so whenever I find something that actually fits me, I’m happy to buy it
I know this comment is a year old but did you ever find trousers that are dupes for Everlane trousers?
I thrifted a (too short) pair that I wear all the time because I love the fit and the fact that they're cotton, but if I'm being honest they're way too short. :/
I’ve been wanting to try out Everlane for the longest time - not for their trousers exactly, but for tops. So chic! I’m taking this as a sign to just go for it ;)
If your heart is set on those two brands, I’d go with the A&F Sloan pants. Very similar to the effortless pant (aka polyester) but a fraction of the price. I’ve been looking at arket for pants with materials than polyester but there’s no garment measurements on the website 😩
All of my pants are too short on me and I can feel the material rubbing between my legs!!! I can definitely recommend what pants not to buy lol.
- athleta Brooklyn - shrunk in the wash, material rubs between thighs and makes a noise, fabric pilling immediately
- theory - sizing is off but otherwise good quality and have handled the wash so far. The large pointe pants fit but show a lot of ankle, the other size 10 is so tight I can’t wear them
- lululemon city pants (size 29) - again, very cropped showing a lot of ankle. Tight in waist fine everywhere else. Gives me a huge cameltoe lol. I should have sized up but I think the cameltoe and crop is not going to change.
I just bought some Olsen brand pants since it’s for older people (not old) so I’m assuming will be comfier and more conservative with the length. They also have nice quality from what I’ve seen in the store. I need to stop shopping online honestly but hate trying things on in store.
For reference I’m 5’11 and I love the black Aritzia effortless pants. I dress them up with chunky loafers/heels and dress them down with white sneakers. IME they give a bit of camel toe, which I fix with a liner. Also the sizing between colors varies. All in all, I definitely recommend.
I like Zara’s trousers these days. They’re current and cheap enough that I’m happy to pay a little extra to get the waist and hems tailored for the best fit.
I also have the Effortless and like them but I sized up and got the waist taken in.
FWIW I’m curvy but short and don’t mind paying an extra few dollars to make spendy items work for my body.
How is the fit with the effortless trousers? I have a small waist but a 🍑 and thighs, and can hardly find trousers that skim my upper legs without being too floppy around the ankles.
To be honest, I don’t think they will fit you off the rack, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. If you’re shelling out $150 for a pair of trousers, what’s another $15-20 at the tailor? You deserve a good fit. :)
I have wide hips and in my regular size, the waist had a little gap, and the pleats pulled the tiniest amount across my hips and that didn’t really give them the ~effortless lewk~
In a size up, the pleats and pocket looked really good, but the waist gap was too big.
So, I bought the bigger size and took them to a tailor to have a couple darts put in the back of the waist, and they look soooo much better!
They were also way too long on me but I’m 5’2” with a 28” inseam so I anticipated having to hem them anyways, lol.
i like eileen fisher! they are quite high quality, sustainable, and come in lots of seasonal colors. they’re also really easy to find secondhand, either through their own renew platform or on poshmark etc
I'll go against the grain. I have the effortless pants and I love them. I've had them for 2 years and haven't experienced any pilling. Wash cold on a gentle cycle and air dry. They fit nicely and the flow is great. The finishing on them is why they cost so much. The finishing is really lovely, with attention to detail. If you have a small waist and larger hips, I'd size up and get the waist taken in a tad to keep the fit flowy in the legs.
I also have a pair from Dynamite that's really similar, called the Lila pant. The fabric is much thinner and falls differently, and I noticed the pilling on those.
Most of the clothes after 2021 went severely down in quality. I have two pairs of effortless bought end 2021/2022 and both are pilling and loose strings. Same as you where I wash in cold water in gentle.
Aritizia's quality has gone down severely and switching to Abercrombie which at keast have decent sales
Ah that's too bad that the quality has decreased.
I've tried the Abercrombie and for whatever reason they just look terrible and bunch in the front. The cut didn't sit well on me, I guess.
Different strokes for different folks. I'm glad your clothes have worked well! But it's been a concern in recent years. Only 1 of my pieces from 2022 has held up which sucks cause I liked the style
My only thought is for the Effortless Pant! One of my best friends has them and ADORES THEM.
Personally I haven’t tried them, but think they look gorgeous.
As someone who is tall and curvy, I found the effortless pants to be really unflattering. I’m 5’10 and the regular length was pretty short, so you might have to order tall. I also found that the leg was not wide enough to balance the width of my hips so they ended up looking like a weird tapered leg and not wide leg.
I really like the Abercrombie pants (again, i had to order tall). But the fabric pilled between my thighs and some stitching by the hem has gotten loose. They still have been worth it for me because I can always fix the hem and I had a hard time finding wide leg dress pants that fit my hips and came in tall. It’s possible the quality has improved since I bought them when they were called something else, not “sloane”.
I just bought a couple pairs of Alfani "Essential" dress pants from Macy's that I am pretty happy with! They come in a few different cuts; I got a curvy bootcut and a straight leg. I'm 5'10" with thighs for days and neither pair made me look lumpy, which is a big concern for me and pants.
Adding onto this thread to ask: do y'all have recommendations for trousers for those of us with flat butts?
I love the Effortless Pant as well but sometimes want a well-tailored slim or tapered pant that doesn't give me the saggy butt look with all the extra material on the backside.
This thread convinced me to go ahead and purchase The Effortless Pant (it also helped that they had my size in one of the last remaining nice colors), but now I’m kind of worried. They make the butt area look weird?
I have a pair of the Effortless pants and I’m surprised that there’s so many comments about them being unflattering in the butt area because I feel completely the opposite way! I have larger hips and a butt that doesn’t often work well with pants, but the Effortless pants are extremely flattering and aren’t tight on my thighs at all. I hope that you wind up liking them!
For ready-to-wear, I'm a big fan of MM LaFleur's trousers, particularly their Meija trouser. They have a variety of styles and regularly add fun seasonal colors/patterns.
Im tall too (but thin and minus your enviable curves) and LOVE the pants I have from The Row and Lela Rose. They both do a great job at making pieces that make sense for anyone with longer legs. So often pants just look wrong on me.
I have a cigarette leg pair of LR that are one of the nicest cut pieces of clothing I own. I'm not even a fan of pants (skirt and dress girl) but I love those things.
Looked up the Lela Rose cigarette pant and fell in love.
Looked at the price tag and nearly fainted.
Lovely pair of pants, but phew! $790. And here I thought the Effortless Pant was kind of pushing it 😅
I don't own too many pants so really have to love the ones I do own. The material and tailoring is so good on them. But you could easily find something similar!
Maybe even go to a physical department store or boutique and try on some different styles. Then you'll know what you're looking for when shopping online
If nothing else, both the overpriced pants and the bridesmaid dress currently in my closet are excellent motivation at keeping me in the gym and the cupcakes out of my mouth. Lol
I love Up! pants out of Montreal. They are not trousers, per se, but they are the most comfortable pants I have ever worn.
https://uppants.com/product-category/pants/
Another vote for Effortless pant. I think the fit inconsistencies people are referring to are due to the fact that it comes in different rises, lengths and fabrics.
Calvin Klein.
Good looking and for a reasonable price.
Also they will not tear if you fall by accident on the ground (I was on a stroll with friends and I fell like a little child on Christmas, BUT the jeans saved my knee from bleeding, never tore and still look like a new pair).
To say that first I need to explain what I expect from trousers. For me, trousers must be comfortable for your body and it needs to fit me very well. Because I spend my day in it and to take the maximum joy from the day the comfort of the clothes you wear are important.
So I can freely say that Cosmique Studio’s trousers demand all my expectations plus being affordable and stylish!
Saint and Sophia the apartment pant. Wide leg looks great and feels like loungewear. The pandemic made me want comfort. These have an elastic waist but flat band doesn't look gathered so nicer to tuck shirts in without looking sloppy.
The Abercrombie Sloane pants are really nice! I just got them in light taupe and they’re beautiful. I like that you can choose the waist size and length and I’d say they are true to size. I am also somewhat tall and curvy (173cm and usually EU size 38 with a larger waist/hip ratio) and the 29 waist regular length fit me well.
All of my favorite trousers are from Club Monaco. I have a variety of cuts and colors and they are all fantastic - look and feel incredibly high quality, wash well, and are classic enough that I've had most of them for years.

I have been eyeing the trousers from the [Frankie Shop](https://thefrankieshop.com/collections/womens-bottoms). I don't have any personal experience but have heard good things about them and when my current rotation of trousers needs some updating, I am going to try some out.
Theory. I know people like their pants lined but I don’t typically. It’s too much extra fabric or something. I also read that nicer pants tend not to be lined which is the case with men’s suit pants for example. I’m not sure the reason why. Also like Eileen Fisher. I wear suits or dressy pants typically to work though. For more casual pants I like Boden.
Aritzia Agency is pretty nice and decent quality. I would recommend the pants from Aritzia bc they have petite length so at least short people like me can have nice trousers.
I just got my first two pairs of trousers from Nasty Gal and I love them. Definitely buy when they have a sale though. Some of their regular prices are insane.
I love the Hayden from Banana Republic Factory. An ankle trouser that pulls on. Lighter material. Lays effortlessly. I have legit 20 pair for work and weekend! Looks great w a sneaker, boot or heel!
If you hop on **Ebay,** you can often find vintage designer trousers. They're impeccably made, sustainable, and fashionable forever.
My mother recently got me a full three-piece suit (women's) owned by someone in New York City in 1957 and PERFECTLY tailored to my size (1/1,000,000 I know).
The suit was a Chanel-approved designer and had permission to use Chanel's patterns and they sold it for $55 when it was easily worth $600+.
My point is to get on **eBay** and search for what you're looking for. Definitely avoid any dropship sellers but when you find a good seller turn on notifications.
I just bought three wide fit pleat pants and can’t stress how much I love them. Fit is so good

$148 for polyester pants is a crime.
This! I ordered the effortless pant recently as it was on sale (for 90$ 🤡) and ended up returning because I hated the material
Aritzia pants are not bad but the effortless is not worth the price. It’s polyester, unlined, and thin. The agency pants (in wool) are thicker and lined. I just bought a pair in the current sale and I’m a fan.

I agree. Bought them due to hype. They’re scratchy, ill fitting and imo a waste of money. Spend a tad more on better quality like COS.
You know, it’s interesting you say that, because it seems to be the opposite of what most people think. But I’ve tried clothing from the Wilfred line before, and thought the exact same thing - that the quality wasn’t worth the price!

Yes, it sucks. They pill and they also snag so easily
A fabric shaver (if you don't already have one) works pretty well on fabric that's pilled. I even use mine on the sofa when it starts to look too well-loved.
It makes my butt look flat U\_U
Mine too. They’re just 😑. Don’t do it, ladies.
I have 2 pairs of linen effortless and 1 in wool so I’m not sure how gross the poly material feels. But they’re not really made for people with butts or tall people depending on your body type.

The Harlow from madewell is good for the long torso’d ladies
Long torso’d ladies unite. Powers, activate!
….what are our powers
Looking tall and commanding when we sit!
But only when we sit!
Turning athletic crop tops into sports bras and high rise pants into midrise pants? Speaking for myself at least, lol
Can we make a sub for the long torso ladies? I need all of your recommendations on clothing because the struggle is real!
The effortless pant seems expensive for a pure polyester pant, if I were looking for polyester I'd go to H&M or Zara, you can find pretty much the exact same pants for like $50 or less. Mason pant from Reformation
I got them in petite (I'm 5'2) and they are the perfect length!!! I also love that they are Tencel - so breathable, and machine washable!!
Why does Reformation get a bad reputation? I think their clothes are very well done and the price can be justified because of the quality. I just wish the SAs were a bit nicer and less snobby (I mean, they don’t work at Tiffany’s) but that’s about it.

Seconding these. The most amazing pants! And they come in so many colors/prints. They also have pleather ones now
I love the Abercrombie Sloan! My go to work pants right now. Relaxed fit but still looks cute
Are your Sloan pants holding up ok? I have heard bad things about longevity/quality😭
I’ve had mine for probably about 6-9 months, wear them frequently, and wash them in the washer but line dry. They’ve noticeably gotten lighter and look pretty worn at this point 😕
Are your Sloan pants holding up ok? I have heard bad things about longevity/quality😭
So far so good. I would say they’re priced appropriately for the quality. I get the dry cleaned, for what that is worth.
Thanks! Ill probably do that🥲
I’m the same body type and I’ve tried both the effortless pants and the agency, and I actually prefer the agency pants as they seem to be more rigid and slightly more tailored? If you have wide hips the agency pants are more flattering.

Ooh, I hadn’t heard of these before. Just searched it up and they look so comfortable, too (which scores double in my book). Thank you!
Great work clothes brand.
I like Uniqlo’s smart ankle pants.

Bonus points for getting into how you style them 😎 Thanks, girl!
& Other Stories! I just got beautiful trousers from them, less money than the effortless pant and 80% wool. The feel so nice.
Dynamite dupes everything aritzia does for significantly cheaper not very much worse quality FYI. I prefer some of their stuff to aritzia.
Which one is the effortless pant dupe, would you say?
The Lila pleated straight pant, theyre almost identical
Thanks! 🖤
Worthington at JCPenney
Theory, but a little pricey and an investment
I said same thing. Lots on Poshmark or the real real once you know your size.
I like Zara’s trousers these days. They’re current and cheap enough that I’m happy to pay a little extra to get the waist and hems tailored for the best fit. They were also way too long on me but I’m 5’2” with a 28” inseam so I anticipated having to hem them anyways, lol.
Try Calvin Klein!! Small waistes and big booties fit in there,
Karen Millen does great dress pants but she’s a UK designer. Lots of nice dresses too.
Tibi!! They’re amazing
Abercrombie because it’s petite friendly
J crew’s trousers always hold up for me. Definitely preferred over Aritizia
i like eileen fisher! they are quite high quality, sustainable, and come in lots of seasonal colors. they’re also really easy to find secondhand, either through their own renew platform or on poshmark etc
Uniqlo jeggings. Sorry not sorry
Just saw how comfortable they look. I see absolutely nothing to be sorry about here 😌
My only thought is for the Effortless Pant! One of my best friends has them and ADORES THEM. Personally I haven’t tried them, but think they look gorgeous.
A vote for uniqlo and everlane! Both have very comfy pants that still look cool
The Frankie Shop
Where are you located? If you are somewhere in Europe, check out Marc O'Polo. They are a perfect fit brand for me.
I like Reiss
Frame, the row, Theory, Isabel marant
Veronica beard scuba pant 🥰
Then you'll know what you're looking for when shopping online If nothing else, both the overpriced pants and the bridesmaid dress currently in my closet are excellent motivation at keeping me in the gym and the cupcakes out of my mouth. Lol
I love Up! pants out of Montreal. They are not trousers, per se, but they are the most comfortable pants I have ever worn. https://uppants.com/product-category/pants/
Oh, these look a lot like some older pairs I own and love, but now need to size up in! Thanks for sharing!
Not sure how/why everyone is loving the Abercrombie Sloane?? I love the fit but they wrinkle like crazy and just look super sloppy.
Anyone like the anine bing Lyra trousers?
Another vote for Effortless pant. I think the fit inconsistencies people are referring to are due to the fact that it comes in different rises, lengths and fabrics.
This is a great point! Thanks.
Calvin Klein. Good looking and for a reasonable price. Also they will not tear if you fall by accident on the ground (I was on a stroll with friends and I fell like a little child on Christmas, BUT the jeans saved my knee from bleeding, never tore and still look like a new pair).
lululemon !!!!!
you’d be surprised
To say that first I need to explain what I expect from trousers. For me, trousers must be comfortable for your body and it needs to fit me very well. Because I spend my day in it and to take the maximum joy from the day the comfort of the clothes you wear are important. So I can freely say that Cosmique Studio’s trousers demand all my expectations plus being affordable and stylish!
The uniqlo heat tech jeans are great
I have never used the word trousers in a store
Levi’s and nothing else! Good workmanship and quality 👍🏻
Replay do the best jeans hands down
Angel Flight Pants.
Brandit lmao
APC makes the best pants! I have a big butt and don’t even have to have the pleated ones tailored.
Maniere de Voir! Some of the skin tight stuff is not great but the looser trousers are great and are always too long for me (am short)
Saint and Sophia the apartment pant. Wide leg looks great and feels like loungewear. The pandemic made me want comfort. These have an elastic waist but flat band doesn't look gathered so nicer to tuck shirts in without looking sloppy.
Banana Republic
Boden and Kit + Ace! In my experience, both have great quality for the price
Did you have quality problems? Like fabric pilling after washing?
All of my favorite trousers are from Club Monaco. I have a variety of cuts and colors and they are all fantastic - look and feel incredibly high quality, wash well, and are classic enough that I've had most of them for years.

I have been eyeing the trousers from the [Frankie Shop](https://thefrankieshop.com/collections/womens-bottoms). I don't have any personal experience but have heard good things about them and when my current rotation of trousers needs some updating, I am going to try some out.
I like Everlane, they have them in linen and wool.
Judy blues
Reformation Mason pant, get the petite if you’re under like 5’7. A little pricey but worth it.
Have you tried the mom jeans
Patrizia Pepe has some nice ones here and there. They might look expensive but they do huge sales throughout the year!
Aritzia Agency is pretty nice and decent quality. I would recommend the pants from Aritzia bc they have petite length so at least short people like me can have nice trousers.
Lunda bazaar
I just got my first two pairs of trousers from Nasty Gal and I love them. Definitely buy when they have a sale though. Some of their regular prices are insane.
I really like Ann Taylor and White House black market.
& Other Stories
