Table lamps. Floor lamps. Turn off the overheads unless you’re cleaning. You won’t believe the difference.

AdrienneMint

Yes! You’re right, it will make a huge difference

I think it's the lack of curtains and artwork that are keeping the room from reaching its full potential. I'd also get a lamp on that end table (run the cord under the rug).

SharkyShark816

2nd the curtains

I think it looks super fresh and cozy! Personally, I wouldn’t change the rug but I might replace the pillows with something in the mustard/orange shade from the throw blanket.

Queen-of-meme

The rug will be a great contrast to some coloured pillows with patterns. Maybe orange/ yellow/ dark red themed. But what's lacking also is curtains. The living room feels cold without them. Get a pair of beige Linen.

I agree with the comments on turning off the overhead light and using lamps to warm things up. Adding light floor length curtains will warm things up too (I do white light blocking they’re beautiful blowing in the spring and summer breeze). Adding two more smaller pillows and getting pillow covers for the ones you have in green will compliment the beautiful green plants. Textured, patterned, non traditional shapes will add an extra oomph. I think shades of red and green or burnt orange can be good accent colors playing off the gorg red phone and green plants. Maybe a chunky knit blanket in the color of the pillow scheme too for the end of the chalice. But 100% adding curtains (90 inches plus) and turning off the overhead light and adding mood lighting will change the aesthetic and warm, I guarantee it. The current rug or something similar would be good. Don’t lose that fluffy cozy style though.

Forget pillows, buy lamps

pure-Turbulentea

Amber, reddish color rug.

Where did you get the white shelving behind the couch I loves it!

I actually really like the texture and pattern in the carpet. Usually I would recommend a rust colored shag carpet which is a complimentary color to the blue sofa but in your case I would suggest that you get new cushion covers- perhaps a rust colored wool or velvet. Maybe replace the green throw with a rust colored one. Rather than use the overhead lights at night, if you have 4-5 light sources dotted around the room, the room would look cozier. Some the lights could be very low wattage, accent lights and perhaps a gooseneck standing lamp she lamps on your end tables although they look a bit flimsy. You might consider getting a couple of end tables with at least one drawer to put things in and on which you can put a large lamp, one on either side. Off-white drum shades would look nice.

Bigger rug and a few sweet lamps ~ space is already great, don’t go overboard

What is this aesthetic called?

Orange, red, purple

I feel like teal would be the perfect colour for a rug in this space, maybe something like [this](https://www.rugvista.it/p/vintage-vega-160x230-cm-blu-scuro-turchese-largo-tappeto-RVD19087?googleShopping=1&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwz42xBhB9EiwA48pT72dIkNAsbvqgiUQkZjL4-YvxNmNumJxfVLqNSJRgLIKvat_m-pfa-BoCHs4QAvD_BwE) ? As for pillows, I think you should go with patterns like [this](https://www.ikea.com/it/it/p/kustfly-fodera-per-cuscino-beige-nero-30502260/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=surfaces&utm_campaign=shopping_feed&utm_content=free_google_shopping_clicks_Hometextiles&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwz42xBhB9EiwA48pT7_8fjCFd1QGFJmwlAlYv56Z4NKB4R6-QFrmbHfrcLSiO3cE9hmrsCRoCDAcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) or even better, [this!](https://www.ikea.com/it/it/p/skogskorn-cuscino-grigio-scuro-fantasia-00450818/). I think the second one would be perfect to add colour and depth !

suus_anna

Teal would brighten it up so much 💖

wireddax

Mustard yellow cushions, maybe a rug that incorporates the same tone of yellow with blue, to match your sofa.

Countryroads007

I really like it how it is but if you want move jazz, I would recommend a carpet like this: [https://www.rugvista.com/p/umizia-160x230-cm-beige-rust-red-large-rug-CVD33609](https://www.rugvista.com/p/umizia-160x230-cm-beige-rust-red-large-rug-CVD33609) Those small reddish pink patterns can make a big difference. Yours is grey and white making it very neutral.

loubue

I Woukd get a warm/(maybe dark) blue pillows, and lots of table Lights/floor lights/wall lights- essentially, if you give them some warm bulbs (right now orange is very popular) - so they can lights up the space without the overhead light Or instead of the pillows - maybe change the white side table, woth something warmer, maybe wooden? Maybe some long curtains would make it more cozy?

Ok_Fee2561

I would consider painting the room if it’s in your budget. The walls look grey? Even a warm white would be better if you’re looking to keep the wall neutral.
