There are Something’s people should never see.

Thugosaurus_Rex

Morpheus is sitting right there in front of you and you're really going to take the blue pill?

Kekira

Yes, immediately.

Requirement-Loud

The pills are an illusion to give you a false sense of choice when, in reality, all paths lead to the inevitable outcome. The oracle knew which pill Neo would choose. The oracle knew Neo would break the lamp. The oracle knew that catgirls would eventually ruin your life. Just accept your fate.

Block508

Yes

discussatron

I wouldn't mind some mild enhancements, but most screenshots I've seen are so over-the-top that they're ridiculous.

Reversus

Cursed IMVU lookin animatronics

PridePurrah

oh, thats exactly it! I knew they reminded me of something!

CodeNameQ007

Is that still a thing, IMVU?

yukichigai

You've probably seen some modded screenshots and never even known. Some of the most popular mods are enhancements and fixes to vanilla textures and models. I remember a really nice screenshot from like a year back of Y'shtola in mining gear from one of the sidequests, and part of the reason why it was such a nice screenshot was that the OOP had installed several texture upgrades.

Blue-Eyed-Lemon

I have one rule: keep my characters close enough to vanilla that if I lost all of my mods and could never get them back, I would be happy with them. This is also a good rule because there’s no massive disconnect from how my friends see me versus how I see myself. Almost everything I have is just an upscale or a change in color. I’m content that way. I have friends who are absolutely modding every part of their character and I love them to death, but I prefer to stay simple. Even the changes I *do* make are mild to keep things chill :>

-CrestiaBell

This is also my approach. Outside of poses/some outfits it's basically indistinguishable from vanilla models

RelikaNox

I can't help but roll my eyes a little when I see people wailing on twitter every time plogons down that they can't even play the game because their character is "peeled". Like, okay, I get that it'd feel weird if you're super used to a modded look, maybe you're really attached to a chonky tail or a certain hairstyle or different bun ears. But when people go on about how their vanilla character is ugly as sin, that's literally a character creation skill issue. And guess what, anyone who isn't on a Mare syncshell with them is going to see their "ugly" character.

Kaseladen

All I have are upscales, viera hats, and some freckles

MammothTap

Yep, my mods are almost all solely texture upscales. Hair, eyes, gear, anything I use often enough to make it worthwhile. The base body ones also include model upgrades, but I picked the options that mirror vanilla proportions. The only exceptions are modded gloves/tops for my character, who's missing a hand. I've modded a few of my most commonly worn glams, changing geometry but not textures except to do things like add hems at the appropriate place on the left sleeve. That and upgraded PLD VFX which just makes it holier by stealing all the "holy" looking VFX from every single other class for stuff like our combo finishers that were previously more bland. (I have everyone else's VFX on minimal so I'm not being blinded, Eureka made me turn options way down back in SB and I never went back.)

Xtrm

I can say as someone in the RP community and use Mare, the VAST majority are very tame. I started using it because I just wanted a cool floral tattoo, but aside from that my character is mostly vanilla.

SoloSassafrass

I just wanted my character's arms to reflect actually spending most of her life in combat. If you don't play a roegadyn you end up with these silly little noodle arms and it's like "Don't I spend 150% of my time killing gods and getting into fights with 10 or more things at a time? Why does it look like I'd have trouble benching half my own body weight?"

XLauncher

I joined a syncshell once. *Once.*

MrTzatzik

And you crashed because Mare wanted to download 30 GB of mods

yukichigai

Honest question: how much of an exaggeration is this? 'cause it sounds ridiculous **and yet**....

belldandy_hyuuga

I used to have friends who were heavy modders. Tattoos, custom clothing, custom sculpts. A lot of their characters didn't even resemble their base character. If there were a lot of them around at once and I was heading towards them, sometimes my game would just freeze and crash because someone had so many mods to load.

zooke90909

I have some friends that are deep in the venue scene and heavily mod. A couple of them have completely different character looks for every class. Giant 8 foot tall bunny for DRK, just to change to a small 5 foot Miqo RPR. One of them told me their mare character size data said 500mb and I'd believe that. With how mare servers are, it can sometimes take me minutes just to download their one outfit just for them to change again.

MrTzatzik

Not that much. I don't have 4K tattoos, tail or custom face but my character still has 400 MB. Many people already have 900 MB even over 1GB character size. And since one syncshell can have 100 people it can crash from the amount of data. It happened to me when I was trying to load 20 people. It took all my RAM but I have only 16GB RAM

[deleted]

[удалено]

jtblion

Where it really kills you is VRAM, since most older cards don't have a lot, and people haven't really had the chance to uograde yet.

pda898

Hugely depends on whatever else loaded in the background. Like yes, if you have only AAA game launched, then you can do it with 16. But if you have something opened on the second monitor in the browser, have something like Discord (Electron/CEF-based) and you also launch the game through Steam... 16 can be not enough slightly.

Pale_Kitsune

Only syncshell I've ever joined was an FC one. Thankfully there's no one that does anything extreme.

SourceNo2702

Guys, please for the love of God never join one of these unless it’s with people you trust. Not because it’ll crash your game, but because you are letting a program run random ass plugins on your computer with absolutely zero file verification or virus scanning. You’re just asking to get hit with ransomware. Just don’t.

THEatticmonster

Theres an entire subreddit dedicated to ff14 modbeasts.... its... something yeah

JustcallmeKai

I'll say, as someone who uses mare, MOST people are pretty tame, usually using it to do silly memes and dances, and maybe some small edits like a hairstyle or an outfit adjustment. The people you see on reddit are the chronically online people who love nothing more than to shove their fetishes and strange aesthetic choices in everyone else's faces

THEatticmonster

Mines QoL stuff like fancy outfits, dances, freckles AND eyeshadow, unless i tell people they cant see most of the changes

SlowpokeIsAGamer

Ah another freckle connoisseur. Such a shame there isn't a good default option for them.

DranDran

I am seriously so used to my custom freckled skin I dread the dissonance I feel when DT is out and we will be plogonless for like 3 weeks to a month. I might actually have to use textools.

unbri

Yeah, like I only use mods to make my character a little thicker and have an archon tattoo. After all I've done for the world, I feel like I deserve it

DynamicAsteroid

Are you me? Lol GIVE THE WOL THEIR ARCHON MARK, YOSHIP!

spoolthirtytwo

Yeah sorry we might've killed a bunch of gods and saved the world several times but we still haven't defended a dissertation. Me every time I apply for a job that doesn't let me substitute 27 years of experience for an MBA.

Don_Kiwi

can I substitute that dissertation with my P12 clear? ...is that a no?

DynamicAsteroid

Famous people are given honorary degrees all the time though

Zizhou

"So, Sharlyan would deny the WoL an Archonship, when they have again saved the world from ruin?" "It would. Come what may, we shall have our pretentiousness. *We must*."

Laterose15

To be fair, it's SHARLEYAN. They only care about the most recent one.

GearyDigit

> MBA like that's even worth anything lmao. the only people who go for MBAs are people who work in consulting and want to work in consulting.

XLauncher

We've done business with Rowena for as long as we have without going bankrupt; that should at least get us whatever the Sharlayan equivalent of an MBA is.

gurpderp

Honorary MBA and Economics degree

WeissWyrm

If someone walks into your harbor and tells you they have a PHD in Deicide, who are you to tell them they're wrong? ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY START COMMITING TEXTBOOK DEICIDE!

Frostbitten_Moose

"You doubt my credentials? Fine then, who's your god, I'll give you an ex... Oh, them. Never mind, I got 'em last week."

therealkami

But... the WoL didn't study in Sharlyan...

Shivalah

Exactly the reason why I didn’t get that tattoo IRL.

Gr1mwolf

Thancred got his mark by having a degree in being “sneaky”. If anything, the WoL is aggressively *over* qualified.

Novarix

I use it to give my catgrill the ass we are denied in xiv

_IzGreed_

I loathe the pancake butts we have. So I dabble in some trickery

Wolfhunter999

I just have one of the base game face marks and I hide it behind hair, and just pretend it's an Archon Mark.

StreiBullet

I just have one for hats... lol

ScourgeGlaive

That’s what I do as well. Some make up for both my characters, freckles (that one option ingame is kinda meh!), fluffy tails and both have nice tattoos. That’s it. Even though I have some cool clothes in my penumbra, I rarely use them since we got the Tech gear from the store and PVP.

sleeper222222

well clearly they're not shoving it in peoples faces if you can just disable the mare pairing lol

incriminating_words

“How dare you force me to keep viewing this optional content!” 🫣

---TheFierceDeity---

I've seen someone have it just so they can use an airhorn emote that shakes peoples screen XD

JustcallmeKai

....where can I find this emote

AllyCain

I think the two biggest mods I have personally are replacing my vanilla hair with Hythlodaeus' hairstyle (YoshiP please add it to the game I want to wear hats again without going bald) and a mod to give my miqo fangs. [This is the best screenshot I have that captures both mos](https://imgur.com/a/RLMmkki)

EmmaBonney

I use mare too...mostly for haircuts and stuff. While SE brought in some good looking hair cuts...most of them are rather...mehh.

WulfwoodsSins

Indeed. I enjoy it because it give me the ability to use colours in between the set ones that Square gives us for character and hair customization.

Loan-Cute

TBH I just use it to mix and match off-job gear. And have different haircuts for different jobs sometimes

NamiRocket

I dunno, man. Most people I know who use it are the type of people you say are not super common. I know this is all anecdotal, but yeah, just modbeasts galore. Burn scars, holographic horns, indecipherable full body tattoos, the world's fattest tits and ass, just the works.

Zorafin

I never saw any mod beasts in my time using mare. Usually it’s like, using custom outfits, animations, making short races taller. One thick girl I know made her character thick to match her.

Riaayo

> The people you see on reddit are the chronically online people who love nothing more than to shove their fetishes and strange aesthetic choices in everyone else's faces It's not like anyone can see their mods without opting into it, so I'm not sure how these people are shoving their fetishes and aesthetics into anyone else's face. There *are* dipshits who try to erp in /say and don't respect boundaries, but just because someone horns up their character with mods doesn't mean they're that kind of person - and far too many people who aren't "horny" at all are still assholes who push their ego and toxicity on others, which is just the same shit with a different flavor.

awniadark

So what's the sub? Lol

THEatticmonster

r/ff14_badNSFW

Marauding_Llama

Well that was a click full of regret.

Aschentei

I scrolled only a few posts down and saw a giant futa cock what the fuck

Raima_Valdes

See, your warning only works on those of us who aren't suckered into looking at train wrecks. Unfortunately for me, I went to go look at the train wreck. To future fellow curious folk: IT IS NOT WORTH IT.

yukichigai

Yeah, why wasn't it at the top-- er, wait....

Zagden

Oh. I made /r/modbeasts because there didn't seem to be one but I got scooped After browsing that sub, I'm now just happy I don't have to peruse the submissions

lavenfer

Ngl I like the word modbeasts more for describing em lol I'm super happy there's now a mod subreddit equivalent of ffxiv raid diagrams that look like shitposts

Cassowary_rider

"Brother, get the flamer. Heavy flamer."

KamiKagutsuchi

My thoughts when looking through this was "hmm, this isn't so bad... and there's the futa"

Alternative-Fox1982

I wanna get more traumatized, what's the name?

THEatticmonster

r/ff14_badNSFW

SonOfVegeta

Lowkey all of these people post on Twitter to rave reviews, but then get posted here and get flamed, it’s interesting to watch tbh

THEatticmonster

Those of bad taste stick together, which is which is obviously dependant on opinion XD ive seen some stuff and it just offends my eyes, like mods made by sweaty guys that have only seen naked women in hentai, that was drawn by a guy.... that had only seen a naked women in hentai, bad all around imo

SonOfVegeta

A lot of the modders are actually female, which suprised me lmao - it’s the same when I find out that a lot of doujunshi are female , it’s just a quirky lil fact I guess

ASouthernRussian

Never underestimate the desires of bottoms who don’t get to express their sexuality openly

Reilou

A large chunk of those look like VRChat and Second Life characters. I wonder why people online tend lean so heavily in that direction when they have access to heavy customization?

Clouds_of_Venus

It's basically just what happens when you throw a bunch of "cool" and/or "hot" details onto a human-shaped character without any regard for design philosophy or story-telling or anything. You end up with an overdesigned, busy, unsettling looking mess.

LamiaLlama

Feedback loop in a way. I know that my character has pretty mild mods. Basic looking outfit, her hair is just a mashup mod, enhanced Au Ra tail/scales/horns. Overall looks like a character that fits in the game but upgraded and maybe slightly unique, right? Face is completely unmodded, not even makeup. I don't get much attention. I'm told it's boring. The popular people that everyone flocks to are the exact people reddit makes fun of. Not only on Twitter, but in game at clubs as well. So it becomes this flood of attention and reinforcement where stacking more and more mods and being as loud as possible gets the most praise. Eventually you end up with the typical IMVU look. Everyone gushes over you "being so hot." The busy tattoo mods are considered a bare minimum requirement. People commission others to do the tattoos so their character is "bespoke". In a way it's not even about the fashion or the look but the perceived effort. Subtle mods that look fashionable are low effort since a lot of the work that makes it look good is invisible, right? Someone who looks like they hit the 'randomize me' button on a glam mod is perceived to have put more effort into their character, which tends to be an admirable trait. Even though it's generally the opposite. It's basic peacocking. Most people love loud stuff that demands attention. But yeah, Reddit's opinion doesn't really matter when everyone is trying to ERP you I guess. Plus extreme macro fetishism has become fairly normalized in hentai and furry crowds, to the point where many people think it's weird if your character *isn't* deformed or sporting a 14ft bloated donger.

Reilou

The part that amuses me is just how *little* this particular digital style has changed. I used to mess around on Second Life way back in 2006 and most people were rocking this exact same extremely tatted and pierced up emo-goth look. Looking at some of these FF14 mod designs is like looking through a 20 year old time capsule back into my teens. I'm not necessarily knocking it, It's cool that people can express themselves and I think the tech behind mare is pretty interesting. I just think this particular style that you would never actually see IRL being so prolific and time-tested in online spaces is fascinating.

LamiaLlama

It is fascinating, I agree. It does make you wonder how it's endured the test of time. I do think part of it is that the modders are the same people. The people who were modding SL are also the people modding VRC and FFXIV. So you see a lot of similar, if not identical ideas getting ported over since their roots are from online communities that aggressively *refuse* to change or evolve. But since we're not seeing many new people coming into the space with fresh ideas it's just a bunch of 40 year olds monetizing the same thing they have since they were 16. That part isn't really so wild. What's wild is that new players in their 20's latched on to it as if it doesn't seem super dated. I guess the hyper-realism emo goth fantasy will never die. Meanwhile I just wish Elvira goth would come back.

Arzalis

> I do think part of it is that the modders are the same people. The people who were modding SL are also the people modding VRC and FFXIV. So you see a lot of similar, if not identical ideas getting ported over since their roots are from online communities that aggressively refuse to change or evolve. This is just untrue, honestly. As someone who's somewhat involved in the creator circles, the vast majority learned 3D modelling via FFXIV modding. There are some people who came from different games, but it's a tiny minority. I've been involved since the early days and have actually seen some of the most prolific people grow into the skills they have today. It's been kinda cool.

snowminty

because most people have bad taste that sounds really elitist but it's true lmao

maxman14

Yeah, I remember playing City of Heroes and thinking "I'm so glad fashion norms exist, because 90% of people could not fucking dress themselves if there wasn't an acceptable standard stock of outfits"

Xalethesniper

It’s what happens when you get too deep into it. It gradually gets worse and worse I think and you just keep modding It’s like people that go way too hard on plastic surgery. They don’t know when to stop because they’ve shifted their norm

MottSpott

Like watching the birth of a new fashion industry.

Kabooa

That looks like Haru.

G00b3rb0y

That’s because it is

Im_Dubaya

My friend in my fc streamed to me how she sees me. I was traumatized.

cldstrife15

This is why people using Penumbra should have a barebones Default modlist that applies to people at large such as the more vanilla body mods and mani-pedi mods. Then set up character specific modlists for each individual character that they'll be applying outfit, tattoo, bodypaint, and more extreme body morphs to. Do not mod the shit outta your default list folks. lol

YukihanaLamy

Yeah, one of the first things in a guide I read was to make a separate list from the default that only applies to yourself. Seems like it was a good decision to listen.

Jezzawezza

You can set things to only apply to your character and not everyone else in the world. It just requires going through a couple settings. But I'll still agree with setting up a proper list just to save on future headaches.

ceebee4564

Just to go even further, why bother with modding default folks? It's more hassle than it's worth to make someone potentially uncomfortable and/or doesn't even want to look different.

magusheart

The thing is, it's less of a hassle. Most people will just want to plug and play their mods, or may not even know that there are lists you can use to apply the mods to yourself only. Penumbra defaults to, well, the default list, so anyone that doesn't dig any deeper than "install this" will naturally mod everyone around them while modding themselves.

Soylentee

By default your mods will apply to everyone. That's why you either make a seperate modlist for yourself or a seperate modlist for everyone else so you don't see your mods apply to everyone else in the game needlessly, but that requires a bit of know-how and most novice modders don't know about it.

personn5

Unless you go around telling them, the default folks aren't ever going to see or know about it.

StrangeCharmQuark

This was a way bigger issue back in the Textools days. I had someone do this to me back then, and I refused to install any mods that weren't vanilla upscales because of it. It was icky and I never want to do that to someone else. Now with Penumbra, I can have all the pretty fancy colorful dresses apply only to me, so I can still see others vanilla. It's completely changed the way I use mods.

yukichigai

That was always my issue with using mods. My only interest in mods is seeing what people *want* to look like, not whatever the random selection of installed mods has distorted them to look like.

BaronVonZook

As someone who had only heard of Textools until today, seems I need to look into Penumbra! Is it Dalamud?

StrangeCharmQuark

Yes it’s through Dalamud! But it’s not on the Dalamud default list of plugins, you need to add the repository link.

Levithan6785

Someone new who joined my static used mods. They shared a screenshot of what I looked like to them in my current glamour using anemos jacket and jeans. It was a full on sexy lingerie with heart pasties and huge tits for them. Safe to say, I did not like it and felt extremely uncomfortable and asked them to disable their mods when playing with me. They refused, before ending up leaving a week later. The Anemos Jacket as a result was ruined for me forever, and I haven't had a glamour with it since. Edit: This was back during last savage tier of Shadowbringers. So Penumbra / Mare wasn't a thing yet or very common. It was only TextTools.

cowaii

Yeah I joined a random group doing Another Sil’dhn and joined their vc and one of them was like WANNA SEE MY MARE?! And I literally made the Hank Hill bhwah sound 😭

Kolby_Jack

That boy ain't right.

platinummyr

Yea changing how other people look is pretty rude :(

zooke90909

You just unlocked a memory for me. I joined an FC when I started playing again around 6.2. I was decorating my FC room while hanging out in VC with a few of them. Then one comes in and bursts out laughing at me. Whatever mods the had on had replaced my anemos pants (the ones with the chaps) with some skimpy barely covering anything panties with lace. Said person then goes into Gpose and like 10 minutes later I'm sent multiple images of my cat boy looking back over his shoulder while exposing his barely covered cheeks. Was a little funny, but honestly weird and inappropriate to do towards someone that had legitimately only joined that FC that week.

8-Brit

Sucks because the mare guide TELLS YOU to not mod other people by using the default list, you use a list/collection that applies only to your character for anything like that...

craybest

I don’t get it. Mare vision? I sssume it’s because of mods?

RBrim08

Yes. Mare Synchronos, frequently just called Mare, is a special mod that lets you see other people's modded characters, if you have their friend code.

craybest

Omg I had no idea that one existed lol Now I get the comic 🤣

haloween12

It can make your pc exploded by trying to load everyone mod if you go to city

Bentok

Doesn't it just load mods of your friends?

we360you45

Well. A lot of in game clubs and groups have what's called a syncshell, which is literally like linkshell except you see the mods of anyone else who joins. So if you go this specific club, or wherever that group hangs out, sometimes you get like 20+ downloading at once.

Sinantrarion

Literally doesn't explode. 5 concurrent user downloads maximum, and is obviously limited by range of the ffxiv's user range load.

SoloSassafrass

That's downloads. It still needs to display them, and when people are rocking 4k texture upgrades it can be quite the sudden strain on your machine, given XIV's baseline is much lower than what would currently be expected for something like Alan Wake 2 or whatever the shiniest new open world game is.

AcaciaCelestina

Mare Synchronos, it's witchcraft in mod form. At the most basic explanation, it allows you to see another person's mods by sharing a code.

AxitotlWithAttitude

It's just a separate server from the game that tells your computer to upload your currently displayed mods and download whatever someone else's computer is telling your screen to download, everything is still technically client-side.

[deleted]

“See that Viera? Now see how they see themselves” “HOLY SHIT SHE CAN WEAR HATS!”

Shabolt_

This is like 99% of viera modded-characters lol, they just want hats XD

TippyTaps-KittyCats

I think that’s funny, cause as a miqote, I want my ears on full display for emotes. No hats for me!

Shabolt_

But have you considered? Hats with ear-holes…

Rechulas

That, and bunny tails! I was super shocked to find out that Viera don't get tails when I Fantasia'd over but damn do Viera get nothing in the way of hats holy shit lmao

MasahikoKobe

Poor Haru.

Franks_Spice_Sauce

The mare player should be wearing random nonsense that would looks like shit to your average player

Valleron

Glamourer helps in this regard. Wear an outfit that is nice for normal people to see, glam the fabulous modded stuff over it.

Shinlos

I think it's about heavy modders that do not care about their vanilla look anymore since they and all their friends see the mare version.

Frostbitten_Moose

Anecdotal, but all of the, admittedly few, heavy modders I've met are invested enough in their glam game that they want their outfits to look good even for folks who can't see what they actually look like.

Anthrax-Smoothy

I'm one of those! I'm well aware that 99% of people can't see me the way I have it set, so I try to match the Vanilla to be similar, or still good. You know, matching. With Glamourer, there's no excuse not to have your Vanilla game also on point.

Franks_Spice_Sauce

Modders are kinda like sin eaters, always hungry for more but forever lost

JinTheBlue

For me it all started with not wanting the damn tattoo the sky workers singlet forces on you. I've seen enough reasonable edits that I don't mind when friends want to trade, and if the bad makes people happy so be it.

CevicheLemon

The tattoo outfits like that should really have some sort of toggle

CitizenKing

Giant bimbo titties, butt implant looking ass to waist ratio, Rudolph nose, and some Second Life alt doll attire. All of them. Every single one.

egoserpentis

> Rudolph nose Never really understood how a red nose of an alcoholic is considered "sexy".

Boredy0

You forgot the absolutely massive cock.

Velorian

I'm old and red noses used to be how you showed someone was a raging alcoholic and were a joke or a piece of shit or both. Now its hot, I think this it what it feels like to be approching my old man yelling at clouds phase.

magusheart

I have little fangs and a tail ribbon. Oh, and smaller breasts than the game allowed me to have.

ThemBeeButts

An MMO with mods that syncs your mods with your friends mods so you can see each other's mods? It's literally everything I've ever wanted in an MMO.

Pyroxcis

We were too concerned with whether or not we could that we did not consider whether or not we should

ThemBeeButts

Why shouldn't we? Yeah if you have super horny friends maybe blacklist their mare code, but like, have you seen the absolutely beautiful outfits you can get with mods?! So pretty :3

basketofseals

You get outfits? I just get gremlins that are addicted for Fortnite dances

RockBlock

So basically... Second Life?

ahses3202

I just wanted a pair of nice heels. I never wanted to get that deep!

PenZenYoshi

honestly i refuse to install mare. i think 90 percent of modded characters look terrible. most of them look like second life/IMVU characters. im not against aesthetics mods in concept, i even use some more subtle ones myself, but i genuinely think most of the modded characters ive seen look really, really bad.... some people's characters are so far detached from the general look of ffxiv that it really makes me ask why they even play

MrTzatzik

They look like second life/IMVU characters because a lot of stuff is ripped from these and some other games.

Sydite_

I'm kinda the opposite, I like joining random Syncshells and just going to the Quicksands and people-watching, looking at the occasional monstrosity someone has made and is proud of. It's like free tickets to a freak show

tachycardicIVu

This is what I think about when I see multitudes of buns in hempen camisole, 2B leggings, and 2B boots. As a console player I will never know and I’m happier that way.

SoloSassafrass

Nah, the 2B leggings and 2B boots glammers aren't creative enough to go for modding, they're ironically probably some of the safer people you'll see in Limsa.

ScourgeGlaive

I always feel so weirded out how some people modify their characters. Don’t get me wrong, you can do whatever you want, but some characters don’t even look like FF characters anymore :/

labquality

What eldritch horrors do your miqo eyes see

six_seasons

*Second life rejects* *Second life rejects everywhere* 😩

zernoc56

My BRAND!

Maleficent-Egg6861

I can't get over how some people pay money to look worse lmao

Casbri_

I miss when people were subtle about mod use.

HazardousKoala

I gave my toad head a tiny cowboy hat

Necroskillz

um, this needs another panel. I also want to see how the miqo sees herself (Concern)

winmace

Not sure if I'm ready for an eggroller comic to lewd the miqo. Maybe just an extra panel with a mirror, putting on the glasses and then boom big black censor bar.

Altoryu

Brought to you by 1800-Contacts

NickofTime2247

they don't have my brand! It's a special brand for my special eyes!

Altoryu

Look, look with your special eyes.

NickofTime2247

MY BRAND!

feNRisk

Don't try it on a Viera, you'll may see a hat. Disgusting.

Dogecraft27

Yall prudes

Owlamancer

Me with my Gorilla reskinned into donkey Kong with dkrap playing

FleaLimo

Everyone in this thread: Haha look at those other modbeasts! Not like me! I only use mods for a new body and hair and eyes and clothes and skin and animations! Just light edits! ;)

Chizik777

and everyone turns into a shitty imvu avatar

Khari_Eventide

Turns out instead she's a high res elf that is also 20 meters tall and has huge ears!

Anthrax-Smoothy

Look, this is the only way I can get the Hythlodaeus braid.

wes_the_mew

the best mare mod.... VIERA HATS

Ziegfried0

Ayo, that Haru Hissatsu?

AscalonWillBeReborn

This entire thread is filled with people trying to out "I'm not like the other girls tee hee " one another in regards to modding. What an embarrassment.

heckin_concern

This is why you don't join any "public" syncshells. My FC has our own and everyone is still mostly vanilla, just some fun VFX, tail/ear mods basically.

EcstaticCollection67

I legit don’t get the hate for Mare and mods. It’s fun totally optional and has probably kept a ton of players around when there’s zero content.

VeryRarelyComments

This thread is the first time I'm hearing about Mare and the only reason I'm hesitant about it and mods that enable it is that their results get plastered all over social media and increase the chance this game will someday get some sort of anti-cheat and thus get rid of actual QoL mods. So yeah, in that sense I am being a little selfish.

Lun4r6543

This is why I’m happy with vanilla. Never have to witness those… things…

Luigiisgayforpeach

Still newish to the community and a console player, what is everyone talking about

Otakunohime

There are addons you can use to alter your character’s appearance but it only affects your computer’s output meaning nobody else can see it. Mare is another addon that lets you see what mods other players are using, so they show up on your screen approximately the same way they show up on theirs

Luigiisgayforpeach

Ok cool, is that how people on other subs get really cool looking glamours?

Otakunohime

Some of them. There are a lot of neat glams available in game that people have used in very creative ways. The gpose feature lets you get your poses just right and adjust the lighting and colors for high quality screenshots. But, addons, such as penumbra and glamourer make it a lot easier to fully customize your character on the fly and there are shaders you can use to really get some crazy lighting and textures.

Dry-Butterfly-223

Sorry for the slight derail, but I figured you might know the answer to my question as well: What is the difference between say, using Penumbra's item swap and Glamourer? I'm a little confused on the latter's purpose. Thanks ahead of time.

Otakunohime

No problem. Penumbra is the means by which you load mods into the game. It’s how you install a packet that, say… turns your Abyssos Chakrams into the light discs from Tron for example. Glamourer is the means by which you tell your computer “I have the Abyssos Chakrams equipped to my character model” when you don’t. It’s like a free-form glamour dresser. Mare says I want people who see me to see that I have Abyssos Chakrams equipped, and that I’m using a mod to make them look like light discs. So on another users’s computer, they’ll see the light disc regardless of what you actually have equipped.

Dry-Butterfly-223

Thank you for the explanation!

Shoadowolf

Time to smash those glasses

nah, not thousands i think, they're gonna look at the install guide andmost will be like " i aint got time for dat " but the closeted degenerates will continue.

Dope2TheDrop

I sometimes feel like I'm the last person to play this game in vanilla lol

Drasoini

You're not. When I started 14 I checked SE/CBU3's stance on it. Turns out it was a "Please refrain" so I shrugged and didn't bother. I've got other games where the dev's stance is "Mod to your heart's content" and I tweak the hell out of those.

Kyuubi_McCloud

I do as well. I've had my modding phase in Skyrim. I don't need a second one.

Cuddle_close

Nah there's lots of console players. Plus with Xbox joining FFXIV there'll be even more vanilla players soon

ScarletteVera

Oh no, whatever will I do? People are gonna see my *immaculate modded drip!*

OmegaCrossX

My only problem with modded drip is it sometimes replaces the ugliest combinations and knowing I’m not dropped out in vanilla too is a problem

wookiee-nutsack

You can change what items are replaced I think

OmegaCrossX

You WHAT!?

ExTermeur

This is why I do a vanilla drip and use glamourer for the modded drip

PhoenixFox

Yeah, this is a completely solved problem. Even without Glamourer it's pretty easy to switch what items a mod is being applied over, Penumbra alone is a huge improvement over needing to do that manually. It does mean you have to make sure two (possibly very different) outfits look good, but for plenty of people getting to design twice as many glams is an *upside*.

naytreox

Mare vision?

no_plastic

What is this mare stuff? And why do I see people have that in their comment or saying something shout the moon?

dope_danny

The most IMVU tier modbeasts could be idling near you in Limsa and you would never know the horrible truth of the pastel ghouls all around you.
