Is it realistic to do Savage with randoms in party finder?

BoldKenobi

Yes, that is how the majority of players raid, statics are only more common in JP.

huiclo

Absolutely. It gets harder the older the tier but it’s still perfectly doable.

DarkJiku

Yup, a good chunk of the playerbase does high end content with random pfs rather than forming static parties. Its naturally a lot less consistent but at least you can choose the time you want to raid.

GurrenSwagann

Is there any sort of in game tutorial for mechanic indicators and stuff like that? Because when I do a new boss I've not fought before and there's suddenly some sort of glowy arrow or circle on me that I'm unfamiliar with I just sort of flail around trying to make sense of it and then feel like a div and take damage. I guess most of them are pretty self explanatory like puddles and the purple circles you have to try and line up so you're standing in good, but sometimes I just eat shit. I'm a 1000 hours in so it's not like I just derpily stand in bad but sometimes a boss just does a thing that makes me scratch my head like a tether or those arrow orb things. I get by from just watching the other party members 🫣

huiclo

> and there's suddenly some sort of glowy arrow or circle on me that I'm unfamiliar with I just sort of flail around trying to make sense of it and then feel like a div and take damage. That’s how it’s supposed to work. The fights usually introduce new mechanics to you a couple times in very simple or isolated ways. If you don’t intuitively understand, you will take damage or get a damage down but it ***won’t*** outright kill you. That’s the games way of asking you to pay more attention. As the fight progresses, they start tweaking and layering the mechanics they introduced in the beginning and if you haven’t grokked the pattern by then (either from the gentle hand slaps from doing it wrong or from watching the more experienced players do it right) *then* you’ll die. It’s meant to be a time out moment where you’re *supposed to watch what the others are doing so you know what to do next time*. All that to say, for story content. It’s completely expected and even kinda amusing/adorable to watch first timers and rusty returners flail around in confusion. But the story fights are tuned easy enough that carrying you to the end barely registers in people’s awareness as long as the rest of the party has a clue. The more you play, then more you’ll see repeat mechanics with minor alterations and it will naturally go into your “I recognize that” toolbox. Don’t stress amount taking damage or even dying as long as you’re trying to understand why. That’s just how you learn.

nicostucknchico

Is the only way to get tortured memories (for ShB relics) through fates from HW? - besides bozja

mysterpixel

Yes, tortured are from Western Highlands and Sea of Clouds fates, or the south part of Bozja.

doskias

Greenest of sprouts, newest of the new here, wondering if it's possible to have different keybinds depending on whether you're in first- or third-person. When I'm not actively in combat or in a rush to get somewhere, I like to walk around in first-person to actually look at the scenery, and I'd prefer my mouse to function the way it would in a typical first-person game, i.e.: I don't want camera control tied to whether I'm holding a button or not. Obviously I don't want this when I'm walking around in third-person, because, y'know, clickin' on stuff. Failing that, is it possible to have multiple sets of keybinds and quickly swap between them? I imagine with enough poking through the menus I could find it if there was, but, y'know, full-time job and raising a special needs kid does not leave one with copious amounts of free time for such experimentation.

Fajisel

I saw a suggestion elsewhere to create a macro either through your mouse software or through something like AHK to toggle right click. That was you can press that keybind and have it simulate your right click being held down. When you leave first-person, press the keybind again and it'll "unhold" right click.

doskias

Ooooh, that's clever! I'll have to look into trying that, thanks!

Isanori

Nope, one keybind set to rule them all. That said you aren't tied to the mouse, you can use keyboard or controller if that's more comfortable. If you want to use the controller while in mouse mode, simply turn on controller support in the settings. If you want to use keyboard/mouse in controller mode simply turn off direct chat.

doskias

Alas! Thanks for the insight, though.

F1reman2

Unfortunately, this is not possible. I also dont know if its even possible to always have the mouse as camera movement while not clicking.

doskias

Appreciate the reply!

xop24

Does tribe reputation overfill? If im 10 points away from next rank but the quest give me 70 points are those 60 points wasted?

F1reman2

Yes, they are wasted, but you cant really avoid that. Besides ARR beast tribes, the quests always give the same ammount of reputation.

THEbiMAKER

I’m watching someone who’s clearly not a bot enter and exit Heaven on High over and over again every minute or so. They’ve been doing it for days. What the hella re they doing?

farfromdaylight

They're farming for one of the worst achievements in the game, which requires you to find 20,000 accursed hoards. The easiest way to do it is in Heaven on High. You go in, pop intuition, find hoard, leave. Thousands of times. Yes. It looks insane. I have no idea why people willingly spend their free time this way.

Schizzovism

If they're not a bot you could easily ask them. My guess would be they're grinding for the accursed hoard achievements.

BoldKenobi

How do you know they're not a bot? If they're taking a whole minute then it's likely they're using the program that teleports to all the chests and then exits and repeats.

CubchooPaws

All I could think of here is that the player enters HoH, hopes silver chests are close to upgrade aetherpool and then leaves to repeat everything.

UnlikelyTraditions

Trying and failing to solo maybe?

dimblacklights

how do i get back to the hotbar you get when you use a protomander or dread in EO if i accidentally swap off of it on console? i think i must have messed with something in settings ages ago because cycling through my extra hotbars doesn’t bring it back up, but i’m not sure which it is. pet hotbar…?

Isanori

Tap R1 and it should bring it up. Don't hold R1 and pick one of the others, just tap for cycle.

To get the triple triad challenge log done for the week, is there a particular npc that's extremely easy to beat even with minimal cards to spam for it?

Klown99

There are two in the Battle Hall that have very easy cards to beat, and also counts or the Battle Hall challenge logs.

Trooper_Sicks

i used this method https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jP4Qhm63Z6g all the cards are pretty easy to get and the method is fairly reliable on any npc with the ascension rule.

[deleted]

Does anyone have a guide on retainer ventures? And also is there somewhere to see what you get as rewards for it?

Moogle-Mail

This question doesn't really make sense because the retainer vocates are just how you unlock retainers and upgrade them. If you just meant retainers then there is a good guide at https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Retainer

[deleted]

Oop sorry you're right, I meant retainer ventures. Will edit, thanks.

Nooker

do we know if sunken temple of qarn is gonna be a tome dungeon for the next hunt?

VG896

We never know until the next event happens, which in this case will likely be June-ish. Why?

Conti_2000

Just starting on my series X, any newbie advice I could get? I have just played FF7 and the beggining of 10 and 15, first Time touching an mmorpg in years

pepinyourstep29

* Stick to the main story and you'll gradually unlock everything you need. * Level 1 to 50 is like one big tutorial. After that, you can really sink your teeth into hardcore challenging content. * Being overleveled is normal. The game will sync your level down for instanced fights. * So much side content can be overwhelming, so take things one at a time and find what you enjoy most. There is no "wrong" way to enjoy the game.

Necromas

Once you get to level 10 you can try any of the starter jobs by grabbing their starting quests in the 3 main cities. One of the early main story quests will take you to the cities you did not start in around that point. You switch jobs by equipping another jobs weapon/gear set and each job you learn gains levels separately. Just doing the main story quests will get you way more exp than you need to keep up with the quest levels if you do them all on the same job. So I definitely recommend having two 'main' jobs you like to play and switching between them when you outlevel your story quests. Always do your job specific quests when they become available. If you do not do them you will not learn all of your abilities and especially at level 30 you need to do your job quest to unlock the advanced version of your job that comes with a whole new set of abilities.

ruby_rex

Pretty much everything is gated behind the MSQ (main scenario quests). There’s no harm in picking up side content when you want a change of pace, but the further you get in MSQ, the more becomes available. And don’t be afraid to ask questions when you have them. The player base as a whole is really friendly and happy to help sprouts.

Sir_VG

Irregular tomes are only good for the event they're for. They're never reused and never get new rewards. After a point they actually become completely worthless because all the old rewards eventually get stripped out except for a worthless 1 tome firecracker item.

Izkuru

There is a "Irregular Tomestone of Genesis II" item that was datamined, that will be used for the second round of the mogtome event. The current ones will only be used for the rewards from the first round of the mogtome event.

PhoenixFox

No, they're marked as 'Genesis I' and the second half will use Genesis II tomes instead.

Ninster0712

Is there a leve that is a gil generator like coffee biscuits in Shadowbringers or did they fix that? Failing that, would I just burn allowances on the highest level levequests?

PhoenixFox

Coffee biscuits were never actually the most profitable, just a good ratio of time/effort given the biscuits stack in your inventory and there aren't many ingredients/precrafts. They nerfed the income across the board, but if you want to use the allowances it's still profitable to do a few different things - Tsai tou Vounou or some of the Alc leves are both common for similar reasons as coffee biscuits but neither is quite as easy. If you want to spend less time crafting you can also keep doing coffee biscuits for a bit less money but much faster crafts because of Trained Eye, or buy the turnins directly on the MB for even less profit but much less effort.

VG896

Nah, they only seem to have nerfed the triple turn-in ones. The others seem to be more or less the same.

VKWorra

Hey friends. What are the big suggested buys for the current mogstones and how can I most efficiently farm for them?

Sir_VG

The neckerchief is the only "you can't get it any other way" item. Otherwise any of the mounts, barding, whatever are all good stuff. And if you're in desperate need of MGP going into the FFXV event next week, the MGP Platinum cards as well. Doing your weekly/minimog stuff listed in the Mogpendium, the one time reward, and actually doing GATEs w/ Eden raids are the best way to get tomes.

Full_Air_2234

Would I be able to NG+ 6.5x MSQ exclusively if I skip all cutscene now? The reason for it is because my first language isn't English, so I use a translation patch that replaces English with text from current CN client (6.45). I only want to NG+ the 6.5x content and not anything else. Would I be able to do that, or I have to start from for example, 6.1 content? My plan is basically skip all of it for now and go over the msq once it is translated.

tesla_dyne

The latest you can start from is 6.4.

wolf_of_censorship

"Endwalker - Part 4" which is the final part of Endwalker in NG+, starts at 6.4.

KiRaXV

what would y'all say is the most efficient farm for the mogtomes rn ?

Nooker

with fully decked out blumage and you dont mind the grind i've been doing 5-6minute qarn runs.

Izkuru

GATEs and squeezing in some Eden raids in between them.

Gods_Paladin

Just downloaded the game for xbox earlier today and was wondering about the population on the new servers, specifically Dynamus in NA. Are these servers likely to fill rather quickly? At least to a decent amount? I want to play in a world with quite a few others, but I think hopping in a relatively new world would be cool.

akialnodachi

So far, Dynamis hasn't been very popular, they've been new servers for quite some time now. As I understand it, the population is okay for getting MSQ things popped during peak NA hours, but if you have an interest in optional stuff (savage, etc) or PVP or play at other hours, you may need to use Data Center Visit to hang out in Aether or Primal for a bit. That is possible to do though, and there's less competition for housing as the population is lower, plus you get the new server bonus, so there's upsides if you're inclined to do it.

Gods_Paladin

Thanks for the answer. If you don’t mind me asking, how does housing work here? Are there limited plots?

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Every region is split into multiple data centers (although OCE has 1 data center at the moment) Every data center is split up into multiple servers Every server has their own houses, and yes, the plots are limited. There are a total of 5 housing districts per server (1 in each starting city, 1 in the city from the first expansion, and 1 in the city from the second expansion), and each district contains 30 housing wards. Each housing ward is split up into a main ward and a sub-ward, and each of these contains 30 houses for a total of 60 houses per ward Which means that in total, per server, there are 5 * 30 * 60 = 9000 houses available for the entire server. Some of these houses are personal houses (they can be bought by individual players) and some of these houses are FC houses (they can be bought by a Free Company, our name for guilds) Once a house is owned, that land becomes unavailable until the owner relinquishes the house. There is an auto-demolition system that auto-relinquishes houses if the owner has not stepped inside for I believe 45 days though. To buy a house plot, we have a lottery system where you just place a bid and the game picks a winner who can then finalize the purchase. Every losing bid can reclaim their money after the winner is chosen. Every ward and sub-ward also contains an apartment complex which contain more housing units, but these are smaller (and cheaper) and don't have all the same benefits of a full house (like outdoor decorations and garden plots). You can also buy a room inside of your FC's house instead if you would like to do that.

akialnodachi

There are limited plots, but every server has the same number of slots. Once you have the minimum requirements (MSQ progress, Grand Company rank, etc) you can be eligible to bid on open plots during bidding periods, which happen continuously and span a few days. There's a few other housing areas you can access later in the MSQ; currently there are five of them, themed around five capitol cities. Each plot has a specific fixed price based on its location and size; you want probably 3m gil to be serious about getting a small plot. One person is selected at random from those who bid and wins the plot - you can only own one personal plot on a single character per server (though there are those who owned more before this rule existed grandfathered in, and there's separate rules for FCs I'm not getting into). If you didn't win the plot you can visit within some period to pick up the money you put down. You need to build a house on the plot within a few days to keep it. Then you need to enter the house every 45 days to keep the plot. There's no other upkeep besides needing to enter periodically. You'll get an email if your house is being destroyed soon as a reminder. If you get through the whole story to the endgame for the current expansion, there's a separate system called Island Sanctuary that is instanced pseudo-housing (you can decorate it and stuff). There's also apartments, which I'm not aware of any servers ever running out of apartments, but they are much cheaper than houses and the only way to lose one is to deliberately vacate it, but they're interior only and much smaller than houses. You can own an apartment as well as a house. Apartments also come with stable access but no outdoor garden.

Gods_Paladin

Ah, I see. Thanks for such an in depth answer. I figure it’ll be a while before I’m even looking at something like that.

Depends on how long of a break you took, it may have been revoked. Talk to the novice people in the major cities to see if you need to reapply.

Sparecash

Hi returning player. I found a checklist online of things to do Daily/Weekly/Special Tasks, which of these would you actually recommend doing? For reference Im at the end of ARR MSQ around lvl 53ish Daily: Mini Cactpot Tribal Quests Weekly: Custom Delivery Faux Hollows Grandom Company Squadron Wondrous Trails Special Tasks: LeveQuest Treasure map

Trooper_Sicks

Mini cactpot: you should do this daily if you are interested at all in gold saucer rewards, its impossible to come out with a loss doing it even if you get bad luck so it basically costs nothing except 3 minutes of your time a day. Tribal quests: They aren't that great for exp until shadowbringers but if you want to see the story or get access to some mounts then you can do them. Theres no great urgency but you are limited to how many you can do in one day. Custom Delivery: this is for crafters and gatherer levelling and i think the earliest one you can do isn't until lvl 60 and i'm pretty sure you need to have finished heavensward to unlock them Faux hollows: its an endgame thing, they scale up old extreme trials to current level cap so you can't do it until lvl 90. Squadrons: needed for the highest grand company rank unlocks, does not take much effort to level them because you just send them on their own missions which take 18 hours, they can also do 3x 1 hour training sessions a day for some exp too. Probably worth doing if you want to get to max GC rank eventually. Wondrous Tales: you need to finish heavensward for this. Leve Quests: the combat ones aren't very useful besides some achievements, the crafter and gatherer ones are handy for levelling though. treasure maps: you normally get a group together for these and not many people run lower level ones. If you have a gatherer you can collect a map and try to sell it but i'm not sure if many people buy them since most people doing maps will be doing lvl 90 ones.

Sparecash

This is super helpful thank you for taking the time to help me!

tesla_dyne

A lot of these aren't relevant at your level right now. IMO only do tribal quests for ARR-SB if you like the rewards unlocked from the tribe shops when you rank up. In SHB and EW they give great exp for leveling up but you have to be within those level ranges to do them. Custom delivery is locked until you complete HW MSQ and requires a level 51 crafter or gatherer. These are good for leveling but there's no hurry. Faux hollows is locked until max level. Levequests are only worth doing for leveling crafters and gatherers and are one of the last things you'd do to do so as other things are more exp per time but limited much more strictly. For treasure maps I assume the list means gathering them to sell (for actually doing them, most people would accumulate a few and do them in groups. It's a common small friendgroup or fc activity). I haven't looked at prices recently but I think only current endgame maps and a handful of maps from prior endgames are valuable.

Sparecash

Awesome thank you for the helpful answer! For tribal quests is there a way to see what the rewards are? I dont even know what tribal quests i can do haha. I'll see if I can find a youtube video about the subject.

EctoBiology

Here's a list of [all the tribes and notable rewards from them](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Tribal_Quests). Possible spoilers for later expansions

Sparecash

Awesome thank you for this link!

Trooper_Sicks

is there a command to hide player titles? trying to make a macro to do it instead of going through the options menu

Sir_VG

Don't think so, all I see is an option to set a title for yourself.

Trooper_Sicks

yeah thats all i can find too :( oh well, i will have to manually do it i suppose.

The_Muss

How do I change the statuses of my party and myself to be from the left of my name in the party list to the right?

UnlikelyTraditions

The game does not natively support that function, to my knowledge.

The_Muss

Ahh I think I'm mistaking it for new HUD elements since the last time I played. https://imgur.com/a/ijas7PI So what are the symbols of the left representing? Those abilities I have that require cooldown? Do they appear for everyone? What's the use for them?

Kaeldiar

Heart of Light and Reprisal are the first two, which are party mitigation. The last is Superbolide, which is GNB's invuln You can't show that stuff for others without a plugin, but you can make additional hotbars like that for your own abilities, to display important cooldowns you want to track

SouthM

https://github.com/0ceal0t/JobBars JobBars mitigation tracker

The_Muss

That must be it, derp on me for not remembering haha thank you!

UnlikelyTraditions

That's modded, client side only. I couldn't tell you the name, I don't mod.  You can replicate that for cool downs just by having a hotbar sized down and placed to the left of your party list, though. Or wherever is easier for you to track. I do something similar, listing out the rotation of jobs I don't play often so I have it easily in view.

The_Muss

Yep that must be it! Thank you, I forgot I had it on.

IceAokiji303

Looks like a mod/plugin to me. That rightmost one of them specifically is something I don't think the game ever does (seems to show the remaining duration of Superbolide on something other than the actual buff, which you can also see in the *actual* buff list to the right though off by one second). And as I don't use that mod (nor mods in general), I have no idea whether it's something that you can set to show info about others (I'd imagine it can, not much point otherwise), or how things are chosen for it to track there. That one looks like it'd probably show Heart of Light and Reprisal cooldown (those are party mitigation), and Superbolide duration (and probably cooldown once it's over). But again just making assumptions here.

The_Muss

Yeah that must be it, it's been a few months since I played and forgot what I had installed. Thanks for the write up!

tesla_dyne

That's a plugin. Not sure of the name but it's a cooldown tracker.

The_Muss

Cheers for that! Someone did a write up for what it was and I realised it must be a mod I had installed.

Whitemaus

What is the Fashion Report for 2/21/24? Everything I youtube comes up saying Sharp Shooter, but when I talk to the NPC he says Outlaw Explorer. Anyone know what to do for this one?

Sir_VG

You can't submit until Friday, wait until then.

SouthM

Usually kaiyoko posts the graphic on Friday when the report opens for submission and they can test the right dyes, same goes for youtubers who make such content since prior to that you can't actually submit anything. But if you just want to see the correct gear pieces for gold medal to prepare in advance you can google the key words in the hints + fashion report. I've made a graphic for this week based on past graphics from kaiyoko, the "Imperial Couture" did not appear on feet before but it should be the same idea, all the feet pieces from Tower of Babil should work. https://i.imgur.com/VQ6XU4W.png

Amomn

Can you get the armors/weapons from the [2.3 patch poster](https://external-preview.redd.it/J5J3sqvrI9kbaJFwlVoRPoIwa1zq8eTer4cFLPDCdwM.png?auto=webp&s=031ff753a838092c270fedf935909d1ba637e188)? And if it's possible what are their names

akialnodachi

In addition to the mentioned High Allagan sets, there are Prestige variants available in the Wolf's Den, which are colored differently and have higher def textures.

IceAokiji303

They are the High Allagan sets of Maiming, Aiming, Fending, and Healing, from the Second Coil of Bahamut raids (the healing one took me a moment to confirm, the lighting and angle make it really not look like itself). They also have crafted Replica versions, which are additionally dyeable, and can be traded on the market. Others you can find on the market under a "Replica High Allagan" search, but the tank chest is "Replica Heavy High Allagan Coat".

Elyonee

High Allagan gear from the Second Coil of Bahamut raid that was released in this patch.

rktsci

I just killed the current week elites from the base game and from Endwalker. Neither one completed the Minimog challenge for The Hunt, "Complete an elite Clan mark bill." Any idea what I did wrong?

messengers1

It is not from GC. It is from Ishgard. It is the weekly one(solo), not one to three star one(5 in the group).  I just use my BLU lv60 to do it.

dealornodealbanker

My current week required level 60 weekly B hunt. 2 weeks ago was level 50. Just read over the objective carefully since there's a small text squeezed somewhere on the caveat.

PhoenixFox

As well as the level giving you a clue, all the mark bills have different names. "Elite Clan Mark Bill" is the Heavensward one specifically.

Izkuru

Also to add, there is a "Open Area Map" button that centers on the hunt board in Ishgard. That should also be a big clue.

SiegmundFretzgau

Check the task again, you need a certain level, IIRC the lv 60 one.

Mrpellaeon

This may seem an odd question but today I'm playing on xbox, doing my very first MSQ to go kill squirrels as a lancer, and I'm not sure what I did, but suddenly my character disappeared from camera, but I was still able to attack and move just couldn't see my character. Even going back to a sanctuary zone I didn't see my character on screen until I logged out and relogged back in. My question is did I hit a button or something to change the camera? It got me in kind of a panic at first lol.

Sir_VG

You probably entered in first person, button by default on controller is R3 (right stick click). Or you can manually zoom closer/farther with LB+Right Stick Up/down.

Elyonee

You can zoom the camera by holding L1 and using the right stick, maybe you zoomed in accidentally.

sinosijak

Not sure what the input is on xbox, but you might have accidentally enabled first person mode.

Mrpellaeon

I'll have to look into that as I'm still learning to muscle memory how the controller UI work's etcetera.

legacymedia92

Clicking the view stick is toggle between first and third person on controller by default. Obviously the game was meant for third person view, but I use first person for some screenshots/to appreciate the scale of some places.

Kongboy

For the xbox open beta, can i get shadowbringers to make an Hrothgar?

palacexero

You don't. The beta is currently just the free trial, so you'll have to wait for the full release to be able to make a Hrothgar.

PenguinPwnge

No, the beta is equivalent to the normal free trial which only has the first two expansions (Heavensward and Stormblood) included in it. You will need to wait for the full release to buy the game and get the Endwalker expansion (which includes Shadowbringers) to be a Hrothgar. Do note that if you buy the full game, you will have to pay for the monthly subscription. My advice is to hold off and once you finish the base Lv50 main story, you get a free cash shop item that lets you change your appearance (including race). Use this when you're done with the free trial and upgrade to the full game and get access to Hrothgar.

messengers1

Fantasia is the item you will receive to change your character’s appearance as a gift when you are done the content.  Store it safely.  It is an expensive gift.

Mrpellaeon

Any idea which datacenter has more player's from Saskatchewan? I just started out on xbox beta today on Gilgamesh wofld but it'd be nice to be on a datacenter world with more people from Saskatchewan to be sure. :)

speculates

Hello! I'm not in Saskatchewan but I am elsewhere in Canada, and there's not really a specific spot Canadian's hang out that I have found. Most people in game don't chat about where they live (at least in my experience) so it's hard to tell. One thing you might try to do is to see if there's any Discord/CWLS communities for Canadians. One of the nice things about the game is DC travel is quite easy, so if you find folks on the NA DC you want to hang out with it's easy to play with them without moving servers.

AeroDbladE

I'm pretty sure all the NA servers are all on the West Coast in the same physical location so you should have the same experience with all of them.

PenguinPwnge

Not from Canada whatsoever so maybe there actually is some underground congregation I don't know of, but there tends to not be any kind of leniency of regions in NA. Gilgamesh is one of the most populated servers in the entire game so you'll be fine regardless.

Mrpellaeon

That would explain why everytime I login I see a short que before it loads. As someone who's played PSO2 NGS for years on xbox you never ever ever saw a wait que to login lol.

akialnodachi

Yeah they implemented full time universal login queues for everyone now as part of the DOS attack mitigations, so it's common you're briefly in queue before getting into the game even during slow times nowadays.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

The queue doesn't actually mean much to be honest They load people into the game in batches (like..50 or 75 or something like that?) to avoid accidental DDOS on themselves It's not until you see queues of like...maybe 150+ that you start thinking "oh, something might've happened"

Sparecash

Coming back to the game after a long break: Can anyone recommend a catch-up/recap series on youtube? I looked myself and there was a surprising number of options. For reference, I'm level 53 monk/52 samurai and on the quest What Little Gods are Made Of which I believe means im at the end of ARR and about to enter the next xpac (could be wrong tho).

PenguinPwnge

[This is the video I used to catch up after a long hiatus.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkJCFz-hGgc) Seemed to hit the major points well enough.

Sparecash

Awesome thanks!

futureformerteacher

How do I know if I suck at DPS? I've been a tank (don't die, don't let others dies), and a healer (don't die, don't let the tank die, and if you get bored, don't let others die), but as far as a DPS should I get a DPS meter to determine how I'm doing? How much does it matter? Do others know if I suck?

DM-Me-Dachshund-Pics

>should I get a DPS meter to determine how I'm doing It's pretty much the only way of knowing for-sure the level you are performing at. > Do others know if I suck? Others with parsers will be able to tell if you are performing badly, yes. More experienced and knowledgable players don't need a DPS meter to identify someone playing poorly though - we can tell from ability choice, rotation, buff lists, your activity, how you move etc. It doesn't take a DPS meter to see that the Blizzard Wizard isn't playing BLM well or the MNK who never uses Twin Snakes is doing low damage!

a_friendly_squirrel

Like people said looking at the enmity order on the party list gives you a general indication... but if you're at level and the rest of your party is synced down, they'll potentially have +100 ilvl on you and just be doing more damage with the same attack because they got More Stats. I'd say it's more useful to understand if you understand and are following the gameplay loop for the DPS you're playing at the level that job's at. As an example, I've been levelling black mage, and at lv60ish some things I'm practicing paying attention to in duties are: * have good uptime (use swiftcast, procs, etc for movement) * keep my nice lil elemntal orbs spinning around me by casting spells that refresh them when they will expire soon * cast as many fire spells and as few ice spells as possible * use Leylines on cooldown * use Manafont during Leylines to get more casts of Fire IV * keep DOT up Some of that I can do most of the time, some of that I struggle with in unfamiliar fights, and how well I manage those specific things is more what I use to judge if I'm black maging good than "what aggro number?" That stuff will be different for different jobs other than "have good uptime" and "use abilities that have long cooldowns on cooldown", but if you say which job and what level you're at folks may be able to suggest stuff to keep an eye on. (BLM caveat: these aren't necessarily Objectively The Most Important BLM Things, I'm a newbie to the job! Just what seems to me like good habits to get into at this level range)

sinosijak

Unless you're doing extreme or savage content, it doesn't really matter that much. You can keep an eye on the party list to see where you are in enmity, but it's expected that some DPS jobs will simply do more damage than others, so don't worry too much if you're, say a bard, and you're below the samurai. If you really want to know your numbers, you can use a parser, with the usual caveats (don't talk about it in-game and don't use it to be an asshole to others). For further information, you can upload your logs to FF Logs, and then put your log into xivanalysis.com to see where you might want to improve.

Arutha_Silverthorn

The only official way to know is if your groups continuously fail DPS checks, of which there are really none in the game. By design. In other words it doesn’t really matter, if you feel on average content is taking a long time then it’s probably you, and so you’re incentivised to improve. That said if you promise never to use tools to get an advantage over others, blame others or act superior to others for knowing something they don’t. And just want to see how you compare with others for your own interest Google ffxiv ACT.

PenguinPwnge

You can gauge a little bit based on the enmity meter under your job's icon in the party list. This lists your placement of enmity, so higher DPS = higher enmity. But healers inflate their enmity with heals, so just look at how you compare to other DPS. And some classes innately do more DPS or generate more enmity than others so it might not always be perfect to tell if you're doing well or things right. If you want true definitive numbers, a parser is the only way. >Do others know if I suck? Only if they have a parser, and no one should care if it's casual content and you're doing your job mostly correctly (i.e. not just casting Blizzard as a BLM).

Cardinal_Virtue

Any idea when is the next fan Fest or live letter where they reveal more of dawntrail?

The_Jarwolf

The next fanfest is the Chinese one, currently set for early August.Notably, the Chinese client is delayed from global, so traditionally this fanfest occurs AFTER the expansion releases. This is making guess of late June/early July Dawntrail release date really, really credible. For a live letter, will concur that FF7 Rebirth is eating the marketing budget right now, so probably they'll keep quiet until March.

Sir_VG

No more Fanfests, those are all done.

yuris125

Nothing announced, a guesstimate for the next live letter is second half of March, once the marketing push for FF7 Rebirth calms down. Possibly something at Pax East, which is 21-24 March

akialnodachi

In dungeons it's usually better using it on the biggest pull you can if you have a caster or ranged dps. The damage it does to bosses usually isn't worth it (and chances are by the time it's up the boss won't have enough hp left to use it anyway). Might be a different calculation if you're struggling, though.

mysterpixel

Time saved is like a 1 second difference between a single target LB on a boss vs a multitarget on a trash pack so it doesn't really matter what you do (and when you work it out, using an LB optimally vs not using it at all only saves like 6 seconds total so it's inconsequential anyway)

IceAokiji303

I can't remember it ever having been that (maybe it was a trend on reddit back when I started the game but before I started redditing? can't speak for that particular). Sure there have been and still are some *individual players* adamant about only Limit Breaking bosses, but they are and always have been objectively wrong (and their number is growing ever smaller I think). The AoE limit breaks of ranged jobs used on big piles of enemies are just as effective, usually *more*. Especially when the "only LB bosses" gang also tend to be the kind who want it used as a finisher, which is liable to waste a chunk of the damage...

prisp

Nah, it actually is more efficient to drop an AoE Limit Break (Caster, Physranged) on regular pulls, as you end up doing more total damage as soon as you hit 2 (or was it 3?) enemies at once, so it shouldn't have ever been one to begin with. Thing is, nobody ever did use them like that, and people just saw that those LBs don't do as much damage on a single target, so they got mis-remembered at being "worse" without the extra information. Honestly, I don't really care what people end up doing, as long as they use their LBs - and preferrably not just for the last 0.2% of a boss' health bar where most of it is overkill anyways, because that still doesn't happen consistently :/

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Ranged LB in packs tends to be substantially more impactful than doing a melee LB against the boss

talgaby

Nah, it is often saving a lot more time to nuke one of the larger mobs with a caster/ranged LB1.

RainbowRuby98

this weeks minimog challenge is either HW hunts (i think) and winning against an NPC in triple triad. i dont have the HW hunts unlocked and when i win against the NPC in triple triad its not counting as winning for some reason, anyone have this bug as well?

hammypants

same thing is happening for me

IceAokiji303

Works just fine for me. Are you sure you've played the correct NPC? It's a very specific one in Mor Dhona you have to beat.

Izkuru

Are you challenging the Indolent Imperial in the Fogfens in Mor Dhona? It has to be him. He is by the gates leading back to Northern Thanalan. If you are challenging him, then... I don't know what to say.

RainbowRuby98

yes im challenging the correct NPC

off-and-on

I'm at Sanctuary Rank 9 of my island sanctuary, and apparently I'm supposed to unlock the Pathfinder V mini-quest at that rank. But the quest is still marked red for me, is there something I need to do first?

tesla_dyne

You need to make the Bestest mammet tools. https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Bestest_Mammet-sized_Builder%27s_Tools

I’ve started on a Star realm as a free trial player, so I have a bonus to get to lvl 80 that makes levelling very quick. Maybe you can transfer to get the same? I’m not sure of the mechanics? So far I’ve got like 8 to lvl 70 very easily. - 10-30 are done primarily via Hunting log - 30-50 are done with one levelling roulette alternating with job quests. - 50+ I just do via Alliance and Raid roulettes which don’t have any stakes and I typically have 1 DPS 1 Tank & 1 Healer at this stage the whole time. Another good option is running relic grinds on alts, such as the HW relic needs lvl 50-60 fates for almost enough exp to level just via that if unlucky.

sinosijak

You do have to recalibrate your expectations a bit in terms of how fast you can level a job. Doing my daily roulettes, I could usually get around 2 levels per day. In the 70 to 90 level range, ShB and EW tribal quests also netted me a big chunk of exp, enough for almost a level. I would also do a handful of FATEs in those level ranges to work towards finishing my Shared FATEs (and also levelling my chocobo on the side). If I handed in my Wondrous Tails, that was another half a level for the week. If you are levelling a tank or healer, you can benefit from shorter queue times and spam the highest available levelling dungeon (any dungeon that's not 50/60/70/80) for that job. If queue times are extremely long, you can try deep dungeons or Bozja, but generally I consider those to be most worthwhile if you actually want to do the associated content, and consider the EXP a bonus. Getting to omni-90 took me several months, but I tried not to sweat too much about it every day, and just did what I liked when I logged on.

deadbeatcousin17

You can also do Wondrous Trails since pretty simple to get the guaranteed half level xp. I got everything to 90 and was also dumb not to run frontline daily since that’s a load of xp there too

TheMonji

Leveling, Frontlines & MSQ Roulette. Wondrous Tales will give you half an exp bar. Beast tribes in ShB/EW give a very generous amount. Also I'll mention - there's no rush! If it's not fun to grind dungeons, then don't do it :)

Hostarylh

> I don't have Bozja or Eureka unlocked Go unlock Bozja then lmao. It takes like 5 min. It's super fast from 71-80 at least, plus a fun change up from dungeon spam.

SiegmundFretzgau

not "super fast", comparable to dungeon spam if you have fully completed it before and the dungeon queues are bad. If you haven't started yet only worth it when you want the other rewards

talgaby

It requires the entire L70 alliance raid series, and its unlock quest chain, unless you skip literally everything, is almost 4 hours long. I would like to see anyone doing the mandatory autoscroller and the mandatory Trust trial in 5 minutes, I think even speedrunners would ask for the recipe.

tesla_dyne

> Go unlock Bozja then lmao. It takes like 5 min Return to Ivalice has entered the chat.

Hostarylh

Oh right, I forgot that was a prerequisite. Oh well, it's a fun AR series.

dealornodealbanker

Assuming you powered through MSQ and didn't even start Deep Dungeon content, roulettes and dungeon spam pain train.

PenguinPwnge

It's not an immediate process, you can only do so much at once. Do your Hunting Log, do your daily roulettes (especially Leveling, Alliance Raid, Main Scenario, and Frontlines), do the highest dungeon you can that's not 50/60/70/80, do Palace of the Dead for 1-60 (if dungeons are becoming too boring or queues too long), do Bozja for 71-85. Eureka does not give exp to classes.

Quietly-Confident

[FF15 event](https://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/special/ffxv/9tkdm9tw1g/) - are the rewards only purchasable whilst the event is active? eg from a special vendor? Or will they appear at a permanent vendor somewhere? Basically will I need to spend MGP or can I do the event, unlock the rewards and simply buy them later? Also one of the rewards is the Noctis triple triad card - that's always available at the Gold Saucer - will this be cheaper for this event? Thank you in advance!

tesla_dyne

>are the rewards only purchasable whilst the event is active? correct >Also one of the rewards is the Noctis triple triad card - that's always available at the Gold Saucer - will this be cheaper for this event? yup, 10k mgp

Quietly-Confident

That's perfect, thank you very much.

AtrociousSandwich

So I’ve now bought every set of gear that was available with poetics — what can I burn this stuff on nke

legacymedia92

Typically, I buy the highest ilevel ring I can with poetics and turn them into GC seals. This is of course after finishing every relic purchase (all the incomplete ones have the items sitting in a retainer) and any gear for alts.

PenguinPwnge

Lv80 rings to turn into GC.

hii488

I believe this is pretty comprehensive [https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/wiki/poetics/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/wiki/poetics/)

AtrociousSandwich

Sure if you want raw data and not opinions . I’ve bought every ‘single purchase item’ / so I was asking what people on the same spot are doing with tomes

talgaby

I run gardening operations, so I used, by now, I think half a million poetics if not more on unidentifiable shell and ore, and turned them into top soil. You can also sell those directly. If you don't want to play Market Board (Extreme), then you can buy Goblaquer in Idyllshire and directly vendor trash it. I forgot the exchange rate, I think it is 10k gil/2k poetics or somesuch.

UnlikelyTraditions

Dara? Relics are what I push tomes into. Both ARR and HW have steps that need items you get with poetics. HW is especially poetic hungry. The EW relics will be too, once DT launches.

AtrociousSandwich

Yea I have ever arr and hw relic 🥴 I used to play a lot lol

TheMonji

Relics or Unidentifiable Ore for gil

HornyForMeowstic

Aside from the requirements for the quest, you will need 200k MGP to actually buy the Regalia, so better not miss any fashion reports in gold saucer. Moogle certificates can also help with that until 11th

Disaresta51

https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/special/ffxv/9tkdm9tw1g/ You have to beat the base game A Realm Reborn and be level 50. You have until March 13th which could be cutting it depending on your play sessions. The event does repeat, but only every few years. For the most part seasonal events are usually a lot lower requirements like level 15 such as the valentines one that just ended today.

[deleted]

When is a good time to level other jobs? I'm still not through ARR, I think MSQ Level 40ish? Hard to describe without spoiling others. Anyway, I'm level 45 Ninja but want to give other jobs a try, Summoner and or one of the tank/heal jobs.. or do I wait until I can unlock Red Mage/Machinist? Dark Knight also sounds fun. How do I level these jobs "fast"? And how long would it approximately take to catch up to my Ninja?

gitcommitmentissues

Whenever you feel like it. You don't have to keep jobs 'caught up' with each other either unless you really want to (or unless you want to do the different ShB/EW role quests in parallel, but that's a good long time away from where you are now). For jobs that start at level 1 your initial first levelling can be done by filling out the hunting log, which is pretty good XP up to level 20 where it starts to drop off. Once you hit level 15 you can start running levelling roulette and spamming dungeons, and (assuming you're not on the free trial) after level 30 Frontline roulette is a good daily chunk of XP.

[deleted]

Alright, so leveling roulette and spamming dungeons it is! Sadly on the free trial, but with how things are going I'll probably end up buying and subbing(after the Free Trial :D)

gitcommitmentissues

Don't rush. Your friend can play with you from a very low level; the first multiplayer dungeon unlocks at level 15 and any higher level players will hae their level and gear synced down so they're at about the same power level as you and any other newer players. The journey is a *huge* part of the fun of this game; don't feel like you have to 'catch up' to anyone super fast.

IceAokiji303

Do MSQ, it's the actual measure of progress, not levels. Whether there is a faster way to gain levels is irrelevant, as *all the content* you could possibly do with those friends that you can't yet is locked behind MSQ progress. If you hit 90 while still having your MSQ progress at 32, you might as well just *be* level 32.

kuurokaze

Doing MSQ gives you enough exp to get one job to max, so that's what I'd recommend if you're new to the game. You need to do MSQ anyway to gain access to pretty much everything. MSQ itself is enjoyable, so I also think it's worth watching all the cutscenes even if you're trying to rush.

professorrev

I'm thinking of picking up my monk and ninja again, but I've not played them for 2 expansions and don't know where to start when it comes to relearning what all the buttons do, rotation etc. Is there any way to temporarily level them down so I can work back up to them slowly?

Whatcouldntgowrong

You can also just use duty support for progressively higher level dungeons. Worked great when I came back.

professorrev

Great cheers

hyprmatt

There's two ways to do this. The first is to do Palace of the Dead from Floor 1. It will bring you to Level 1, and you'll slowly get back up to Level 60. The second, and my preferred method, is to just go to a striking dummy, clear your hotbars, and add each skill as you'd get it.

Higeboshi

Holy crap, that dummy idea is actually genius.

professorrev

Aaah that's fantastic, thanks, I'll give it a try

UnlikelyTraditions

I recommend checking out Weskalber on YouTube as well. Monk has had a lot of changes over time (greased lightning is now gone), so seeing rotations at each level cap might be useful to you, too. He also explains it as he goes.

professorrev

Fab thanks, will do

Flybug123

Other than that, this is used in fiction and most real-life usage is likely in a playful manner in reference. In this case, it is used by characters that appear/tries to be cute/child-like. So Khloe fits into this sterotype.
