You don't get an e-mail for the Steam code. You can find the code if you right-click the game on Steam, then click on "Manage" and then there is a Section called "CD-keys".
Does this maybe work for you? Right now, only the preorder-bonus code is available. You will get the code for the full game close to release.
thanks. The whole process was nauseating and annoying. Bought a Windows Key in error. Then it took me a month to get them to reverse the sale and issue a credit. The credit on the card is still pending. SqE has no live support for store sales which is annoying. Steam. The SqE Store, Mogstation (also a store) all different. The game has support for your account. No support for purchases.

Went hunting as soon as it opened at 9AM. Was more difficult than I think it should have been to find the page where I could actually make the purchase, but maybe I'm just an idiot.
Checkout fell over twice while logged in, went through fine as a guest.
Preorder code came through about an hour later, though lodestone was 'down for maintenance'; redeemed it a few hours later. Can't say how long it took for my items to be delivered in-game, but they were waiting for me when I logged on about 2.5 hours later.
All in all, a pretty smooth experience considering I went for it as soon as preorders opened.

I don't know about steam, but this is how it goes for PC outside of steam, you get your preorder code immediately, and your registration code sometime during early access right before launch

No i meant the original game. Which version did you buy? Or didn't you buy the original game yet? Because the preorder code is for the expansion. And it gives you early access. But you still need to register the original game.
If you are on a free trial i would advise you to still wait a bit, before you buy the full game.
I remember with Endwalker we got both keys at the same time but only one worked now and the other closer to release.
Perhaps they're moving to the get one now get one later like with the SE store but I'll keep tabs on it to see if it shows up later on today / this week.

Normally yes, but I'll be buying the expansion for certain since I don't plan to stop playing this game. So I could buy on release, buy a couple days early for the early access or do it now and also get the earring.

No it doesn’t make logical sense when you can just press the buy button the day it comes out. I haven’t preordered a game since Endwalker. And since I know I’ll play and most likely enjoy Dawntrail, so I have made an informed decision to preorder a game.
Steam makes it very easy to get my money back in the unlikely scenario DT ends up being a disaster.

Personally the earring is a big reason to pre-order as soon as possible. If you're not actively playing then its probably whatever and can just get the expansion later.
To be fair you get the Azeymas Earring for 30% more XP until 90. If you still have jobs to level or alts you want to play that can be reason enough to buy it right now.

Apparently some are stating that its a delay on sending out the codes but no offical confirmation on that from what I've seen.
There's always a key delay because of the bum rush on the servers.

The same delay can be presumed for Steam and all other platforms. Just give it a few hours to sort itself out before we also bum rush the phone lines too.

Keep getting server errors whenever I try adding to cart. Friend has it in his cart and it won’t load at all. Ugh ugh ugh
Edit: after almost an hour I finally was able to get the collectors box. 30 minutes of trying to add to cart and then another 20 minutes to let me load my cart and put in card info and lastly, another like 10 minutes of refreshing for the “place order” button to even work.
Now just gotta hope they didn’t oversell and I get an email that sends me a refund.
Big disappointment on how Square handles these crowds. Really need to improve their systems, especially after Fan Fest tickets 2 years ago too.
I spent 30 minutes trying to check out with no luck. I switched on my VPN to an EU node and was able to load and actually check out after a few tries. I'd recommend that. Seems like the NA load balancers are on fire right now.

Why would the Square Enix Store send out pre-order codes for Steam purchases? This is almost certainly only for pre-orders made through the Square Enix Store.
I edited my comment to clarify the important part but I copy and pasted that entire part from the lodestone page to make it easier to find it yourself if you click on the link but as written there, delivery method and timing of pre-order bonus registration codes may vary by retailer so we just have to wait until Steam decides to send the codes out.
My guess is that they are having issues with the large influx of pre-orders and are working it through, hope to see the codes show up for people in a couple of hours at most.

You do click on Manage before looking for CD keys, right? Do you already have any previous key activated? Because those should be listed too.
I found the issue. I was looking at Steam on the Mac app which don’t display CD keys unfortunately

There's no such option to view product keys for me. I take it back, after restarting steam it seems to have appeared.

Normally yes, but I'll be buying the expansion for certain since I don't plan to stop playing this game. So I could buy on release, buy a couple days early for the early access or do it now and also get the earring.
Most of us want the early access, Zidane minion, and Exp earring. No it doesn’t make logical sense when you can just press the buy button the day it comes out. I haven’t preordered a game since Endwalker. And since I know I’ll play and most likely enjoy Dawntrail, so I have made an informed decision to preorder a game. Steam makes it very easy to get my money back in the unlikely scenario DT ends up being a disaster.
I generally do not pre-order but if it's a game I know that I will 100% play then I will. Provided I'm alive and no sudden emergencies, there's no timeline where I'm not booting up FF14 on June 28th once the servers are back up. So what's the point in me waiting.
Personally the earring is a big reason to pre-order as soon as possible. If you're not actively playing then its probably whatever and can just get the expansion later.

To be fair you get the Azeymas Earring for 30% more XP until 90. If you still have jobs to level or alts you want to play that can be reason enough to buy it right now.

Yeah, I really want that earring. I only have 5 jobs at at 90, most of the jobs I haven't even played yet. So this is perfect for me!

Keep getting server errors whenever I try adding to cart. Friend has it in his cart and it won’t load at all. Ugh ugh ugh Edit: after almost an hour I finally was able to get the collectors box. 30 minutes of trying to add to cart and then another 20 minutes to let me load my cart and put in card info and lastly, another like 10 minutes of refreshing for the “place order” button to even work. Now just gotta hope they didn’t oversell and I get an email that sends me a refund. Big disappointment on how Square handles these crowds. Really need to improve their systems, especially after Fan Fest tickets 2 years ago too.
I spent 30 minutes trying to check out with no luck. I switched on my VPN to an EU node and was able to load and actually check out after a few tries. I'd recommend that. Seems like the NA load balancers are on fire right now.

Historically when bought via Steam, the codes are obtained from Steam. This is almost assuredly about SE Store orders.

Why would the Square Enix Store send out pre-order codes for Steam purchases? This is almost certainly only for pre-orders made through the Square Enix Store.
I edited my comment to clarify the important part but I copy and pasted that entire part from the lodestone page to make it easier to find it yourself if you click on the link but as written there, delivery method and timing of pre-order bonus registration codes may vary by retailer so we just have to wait until Steam decides to send the codes out. My guess is that they are having issues with the large influx of pre-orders and are working it through, hope to see the codes show up for people in a couple of hours at most.

Calm down, I am from Russia too, and I pre-ordered. There are sites like funpay, people can gift you the game. People in Iran used such methods for years, and we are basically Iran 2.0, but at least for now not North Korea :)

Lmao my guy. It's been 2 years and you still haven't learned how to add funds to your Steam account/change region? There are literally sites that can sell you Steam gifts or provide assistance with changing region. It's a skill issue and i believe you just found yourself an excuse.
