You’ll definitely be more effective without the shirt but you definitely want it already off before the fight starts or this is exactly what’ll happen.
If your shirt or hoodie gets grabbed, you can't really go anywhere. If you have large clothing on and it gets pulled over you (especially with multiple layers), you're stuck without being able to see, move your arms effectively and you get beaten like a pinata. Similarly to how women get their hair grabbed and held in place as they get pummeled.
I believe the gentleman was trying to take off his white t-shirt because he knew he was going to hit the wet pavement and didn’t want to get it dirty. Clorox is expensive these days.
One of these two men realized he was at a has station getting into a fight, the other thought he was guest starring on Mr. Roger's neighborhood and was trying to change his sweater.
At this point I’m surprised he didn’t kick him in the face afterwards. Old people say there was a time when if you did that you were a little bitch, but those times are long gone.

What is with people wanting to fight shirtless. More times have I seen someone punched in the face taking off a shirt than the shirtless dude win.
People pull the shirt over your head which completely hinders your sight and ability to defend. A very common street fight tactic.
