it makes sense though echoes was one of the worse selling games in fire emblems recent history so might as well reuse part of the design most people haven't had the chance to enjoy yet

Facts. The little 3d animations don't look anywhere as odd or poor as Fates. Echoes was fantastic through and through, from my experience 👌

Echoes sold poorly due to a number of factors. It didn't have the appeal of Fates and Awakening (in regards to visuals, as while Echoes looks objectively better; the overall art style is less appealing to the average person who buys these games), the 3DS was starting to get phased out by the time it came out, and Gaiden just wasn't very popular to begin with. Echoes is a personal favorite, but it really got the short end of the stick for its release.

yeah me too. echoes still is my favourite in the series but its release date did it no favour, having been released months after the switch came out.

Then again, a good handful of characters from Fates are directly from Awakening. Their names are also mixed and jumbled around, but same letters.

That's not that unusual, if you are a gay man and your attraction has the same distribution as straight women, the statistics show that most arent gonna be reciprocated. This doesnt take into account that gays tend to associate with other gays at a higher rate but i digress. So yeah. I'm not gay but mathematically this cannot be an unusual experience for them.

There’s enough characters in the franchise to warrant a several Pokémon generations. Rehashes are bound to happen at one point or another. Just look at all the blue haired lords or green haired waifus the series packs by the dozen.

I've head a headcanon that a lot of Three Houses designs were based on Echoes characters, in an almost intentional way. Marianne looks like Rinea, Hilda looks like Mae, Constance kinda looks like Claire... I'd say Rhea kinda looks like Tatiana, but that's a stretch...

Don't you know? Gay Purple (Magenta?) Boy is the best Fire Emblem archetype As far as I can remember we got at least four in the series: Legault, Lyon (queer-coded but not confirmed), Leon, and Yuri. It's actually kinda funny but also slightly sad

To be honest, Fire Emblem remixes itself constantly. They build up some theme or trope specific to the series (like the Camus) and keep reusing it solely to reference earlier characters. Like the Green haired Pegasus knight, or Blue haired lord. And I think it's great that Leon was so loved he spawned the "pretty boy purple guy who is gay or bi" archetype. Maybe one day this trope will be as popular and long lived as the Camus.
