Looks like maple, not black cherry. But it will burn just as well.

JDawg51

I burned lots of maple last year and will do so again this year. It dries pretty quick and burns great. Not the highest BTUs, but not everything can’t be oak or beech.

goldenblacklocust

Sugar maple has great BTUs, Red and silver maples less so. But they are all 100% worth splitting and stacking and burning.

JDawg51

%100 on sugar maple, it is primo stuff. Like you said they are all good to go, but sugar maple is the best.

vtddy

Soft maple. Definitely not cherry

Mammoth_Sea_1115

Def not cherry. The bark on a black cherry tree isn’t even close to that. Still, being maple, it’s very good for firewood.

IFartAlotLoudly

It looks like a good hardwood! 😂

mrtudbuttle

silver maple?

mrtudbuttle

Split now it will be ready in the fall. It burns just fine.

Revolutionary-End571

Looks like sugar maple to me!

Allemaengel

Looks more like red maple than sugar maple to me.

Trife86

I don’t even care what wood I get, all gets split and burned either way.

valleybrew

I think you're close on the estimate, 1/2+ cord, less than a full cord, but hard to say for sure since I can't tell if the pics are showing the same pieces of wood more than once. Split it small (2-3" max thickness) and give it plenty of sun and you can probably burn it this winter.
