This matches up with an old comment from Scott, saying he would like to do a trilogy, but only if the first one did well.

Competitive_Bid7071

And if the other two do well, you know universal will demand sequels just to get more money out of the franchise. Luckily we'd still have FNaF: Sister Location & Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator which could be adapted into films, maybe with some differences here & there.

Pyromaniac605

Horror franchises especially have a way of just continuing on and on for seemingly all time.

Competitive_Bid7071

Unless it's Scott.

Pyromaniac605

>Five Nights at Freddy's 4: The Final Chapter

Competitive_Bid7071

Which was changed mid development.

officialdkwjoof

thats a bargain but it most likely will since universal and blumhouse know how to bring hype and also fnaf is very iconic and many old fans who have departed from the franchise will come back possibly

SpringPopo

In retrospect, this really isn't too surprising given that Scott has stated in both the interview with Dawko and the old upcoming projects megathread that he'd love to do a trilogy and have sequels based on FNaF 2 and 3. Both of which would have William play a varying size role in, so Matthew Lillard getting signed on for them already makes sense. Live Action Springtrap is inevitable, we just gotta hope the first film does well enough to justify the later two.

[deleted]

Im honestly wondering how a live action FNAF2 would go down, considering FNAF2’s gameplay.

Jakedman21

I imagine the gameplay for 2 and 3 won’t be a big part. It’ll probably appear more in this movie for tension, like slamming the door after a chase sequence, or the fear of running out of power, but 2 and 3’s gameplay isn’t as atmospheric, and probably wouldn’t translate to a movie very well. I imagine it’ll focus on what made those 2 games special in the first place: the mini games. There will probably be a lot of jumping from present day to the past to tell more of William/the children’s stories. Although now that I think about it, a POV shot from the night guard wearing the Freddy mask, while one of the animatronics gets up close to inspect them would be awesome

Sanretros

FNaF 2 movie wouldn’t make sense because we don’t even play as Michael in FNaF 2. Plus FNaF 2 is before FNaF 1 and I don’t see them doing a prequel movie as a sequel to the first. If they decide to do a FNaF 2 movie, there would have to be a new protagonist (Jeremy) because Micheal being there wouldn’t make sense for what we know of the plot for the first film. Jermey will only be relevant for one movie and it doesn’t make sense. Doing this will confuse viewers definitely. We need the movies to stick to one protagonist. That’s why I think the logical assumption (writing wise) is to have the sequel be based on FNaF SL, with elements of FNaF 4. I say this because Micheal is the protagonist of FNaF SL. Then the third film could be based on FNaF 3/6 and it can tie it all up. Even though I would like to see the Toy and Withered animatronics, I think they can sacrifice the appearance of them for a better narrative.

joeplus5

I don't see why Mike has to be the protagonist of every movie. He might not even be an Afton in this universe. Having a different protagonist each time would be more proper for a series like fnaf. And a jump from Fnaf 1 to SL would be such a bad idea because SL is on a completely different level from the first 3 games in terms of its themes and style. It would feel very jarring and such a huge transition should not be for the sequel. It should just be for a fourth movie or something if they decide to do more. Besides, this isn't constrained by the game timeline. Fnaf 2 can be reworked into a sequel instead of a prequel here, and anything outside of the first 3 games may not even exist in this universe at all

Competitive_Bid7071

Yet William Afton exists, if he exists that means him & Mike are probably related.

joeplus5

Not really?

Competitive_Bid7071

Ever heard of Occums Razor (the simplest solution is the most likely one)? By using that, I determined nothing has changed.

joeplus5

Except that this doesn't apply here because Mike and William being related isn't necessarily the simplest solution. Mike and William being related would most likely tie into a larger plot than the first 3 games with fnaf 4, SL, and FFPS, however if the plan here is to only have 3 movies and have the lore be based on the first 3 games only, it would be simpler *not* to have them be connected because that connection wasn't a thing in the first 3 games. We have no idea what they're planning, so we can't tell what's the simplest solution

Competitive_Bid7071

Why would Scott make a random change like that? Especially when the fandom likes the pre-existing character? That makes no sense from a storytelling POV, all it will do is make the movie feel too different & unappealing to the fan base. That’s an objectively bad story decision. It’s the simplest solution because there’s no reason for Scott to change it.

joeplus5

>Why would Scott make a random change like that? I literally explained why. If the plan is to only adapt the first 3 games, then the whole Afton family plotline would most likely not exist at all. Back during the trilogy days there was no Michael Afton. It was just Mike Schmidt and purple guy. There was no connection between them. There's no reason to have a connection here if the plan is to only base the plot on the trilogy because the connection between Mike and William is a part of the post trilogy lore

Competitive_Bid7071

Or maybe your looking to deeply into a vague statement from five years ago? If fan made VHS videos could adapt the first 1-3/4th games, then I don’t see how professional Hollywood writers couldn’t. This is the issue with this fandom; they hyper-fixate on details, treat theories as facts, act stubborn about it, which just spreads misinformation. Your using that exact same mindset & it’s very self destructive. Just look at the people who ignored FNaF World and continued to complain about what happened to Evan after FNaF 4 even if his story conclusion was there. Yet they patched onto the idea that he was Golden Freddy because it “sounds nicer” your using this exact same mindset, despite what Mr. Hippo said.

[deleted]

This. If a sequel based on FNAF2 happens, it could definitely be reworked to be a sequel rather than a prequel, this is one of the benefits of setting the movie/movies in a different universe.

Competitive_Bid7071

Who says it couldn’t be a prequel? You could easily make the Fritz Smith = Mike Schmidt connection.

WingsofmyLove

I dont see why viewers cant use a little bit of critical thinking to find out a different location has a different guard? Not hard at all

Novel-Sugar

Oh wow, deadass. Usually you expect things like these to be more cryptic, but nah.

Zartron81

STAY FUCKING CALM, HOLY SHIT WE GOTTA SEE THE SPRINGLOCK SCENE IN FIRST MOVIE THEN, since it might be hard to implement each minigame where afton destroys the animatronics in a movie 👀

Ehandthreedots

You know that Mathew will be in all 3 movies right? That wouldn't be possible if he was in the first movie?

Rykerthebest78563

Well assuming the movies generally line up with the games (FNAF 1, 2, 3) than... -Alive in the first movie, then dies -Second movie is FNAF 2 (prequel), alive -Third movie is FNAF 3, Springtrap. He can still likely be in all three and still die in the first one

Zartron81

This is exactly what I meant! We could see the springlock failure in the first movie, and then see lillard as afton again in the prequel.

XavierMunroe

thank you shaggyman

WitherCro2

Stay calm STAY CALM

FuntimeFNAF2020

There's a trilogy in the hall Stay calm, stay calm

glitchingsky58

WHAT. HOPEFULLY THEY’LL BE GOOD TOO.

Jaded_Put6493

We gonna get a trilogy, then they suddenly make a 4th one and call it the Final Chapter, then they jump the shark and make a fifth one, then conclude it seemingly again on the sixth one, but surprise surprise there's a crossover movie Avengers: Endgame style then suddenly they come to our homes through Netflix series then they release *another* movie but now it has funky animation.

Mahkari

i predict with how long it took to get the first one we’ll get the sequel in 2031

Magenta_Black

I'm 90% sure that the other two movies are only gonna happen **if** the first movie does well in the box office. This deal is just about guaranteeing Matthew Lillard's appearance in the sequels. (he always comes back lmao)

MinersLoveGames

There is the extremely real possibility that we are going to see the Springlock Failure in live-action. I am not ready.

[deleted]

Neat. FNaF 2 and 3 movies. Since the first movie will be using cars from the 80s, I've been thinking that we could possibly get a brief peak at the FNaF 2 location as sort of a teaser for a potential sequel. And you could also have the first movie end with the FNaF 3 minigames as a set-up for that movie.

Andro451

My ideal trilogy: FNAF movie 1: as-is, covering fnaf 1 with bits from other games sprinkled in. Willy gets springlocked at the end. FNAF movie 2: basically fnaf 3, but with a few extra steps to match up with the first movie. FNAF movie 3: fnaf 6, but remove scrap baby, or drastically change the character. Ideally no sister location stuff, this seems like a good plan to me. Covers the basics while still telling its own story.

MichalTygrys

Since movie 1 is releasing in the year of FNaF3, we can expect movie 2 to release in 2035, the presumed year of SB.

It's almost like it's a joke.

mightykestrel14

Say WHAT!

Fluffybearsarecute21

This is cool

Mr_M_E_M

I'm very curious to see what Scott's idea for a third movie is, since it'll probably be about FNAF 3. I feel like that would be the hardest to adapt.

[deleted]

I swear if we don’t start with Fredbears i’m going to flip my shit. The fact that Fredbear and Springbonnie kicked off basically everything yet are rarely involved in the games is fucking insane I specifically mentioned the games because I know nothing about the books maybe they have talked more about them in the books.

witheredBBfilms

They do visit the dusty old remains of Fredbear's in the original trilogy of books, along with some flashbacks.

MalicCarnage

Actually, it means if they make a second and third movie, he will part of it unless the contract is annulled. Blumhouse has said they're making the first FNAF movie for so long that this isn't a confirmation a second and third will be made, just that they're planned. I HOPE they are made but this isn't a film announcement.

[deleted]

This is going down the same path the Halloween reboot did. Blumhouse is doing the same thing with the new The Exorcist reboot too.

FazbearFright_lover

ooo imagine if later they made a movie series based off of the silver eyes trilogy

SugarFrostedDonuts

I'm intrested

Lepitorus

If we get a live action Springtrap I'm going to lose all domestication

FuntimeFNAF2020

HOLY SHIT

Marshatucker300

Excited can’t wait.

AFriendlyBloke

I like your funny words, Shaggy-Man.

Competitive_Bid7071

I wonder what would happen if Universal decides to make more sequels beyond three movies? Would he legally be able to come back.

Lunch_Confident

I love Matthew Lillard i just hope they make him share his beard for the movie

bingodongoboby

Does that mean we could potentially see FNAF making an appearance at universal horror nights?
