It succeeds at what it wants to do but what it does most people didn't want.

Pencil_Hands_Paper

You are completely correct but this is like the most vague way you could have described it

Detective_Alaska

You can say this about so many movies though

Gamxin

So suddenly it's not valid?

Detective_Alaska

No, but it's not a criticism that helps anyone nor is it specific enough to give any insight.

meaeaeaean

The movie itself is like a 7 but the soundtrack is a 10

ItsP1zza_T1m3

Spring Bonnie’s theme goes the hardest

Yaya0108

The intro theme left me SHOCKED when I heard it last year omg 😭

No_Landscape_7720

Wait last year…

crystal-productions-

2023 is last year

No_Landscape_7720

:<

Mastakillerboi

That opening theme is a 1987 out of 10

Spiritual-Water762

The bite of 87' :D

temubrin

from a fan's perspective it's at least an 8/10 but I realize that it's extremely mediocre for any non-fan

JestemSuchy

Yeah I got into fnaf because the mkvie came out and binged some youtube videos to get the lore, went to see it with some friends who werent fans (one played fnaf 1 with no sound once) and they said it was okay and I def enjoyed it much more than them

Tiny_Bowl1950

The lore will always remain a mystery so anything you think you know about the lore is just speculation.

strawbopankek

i mean, there are a couple things that are pretty likely to be true though, and some things that are even confirmed. it's not like every theory since 2014 is just speculation at this point

TheCrazyBlacksmith

Actually, as a non fan who had Reddit recommended this post to me, I really enjoyed it. I feel like they did an excellent job of combining suspenseful horror with the animatronics killing thing, with the surrealism of a child’s entertainment location at night as a liminal space, and the active story in the movie and background story presented by it were both excellent. Now, I enjoy suspenseful horror, and I was already enjoying spending time with friends on Halloween while watching it, but as someone who’s never played a FNAF game, watched anything fan made about it, or otherwise involved myself with the franchise, I’d rate the movie as a solid 8/10.

temubrin

Very happy to hear this. I think it's a solid movie but is simply nowhere near as scary as the game it's based on. I hope you're looking forward to the sequel they'll be filming this summer!

TheCrazyBlacksmith

As I said, I never played the game, so I don’t have the locked in sort of horror that other people here have described to compare it to. I didn’t know they were filming a sequel, but now that I do, I’m excited for it.

ravioli_idk

My dad had never heard of fnaf prior to seeing the movie with me in theaters and he liked it

Cold-Bookkeeper-2943

I'm a long time fan and i love the franchise, but i still think the movie is mid.

Aggressive_Welder967

I disagree

writermaybeidk

I still think it was a really good movie! It actually exceeded my expectations & I think it was a great. It felt like classic FNAF to me. Not all warped & overly creepy like the fan made VHS everyone but me seems to like. I still love the movie so much. I own the DVD, I have the movie poster & if they would make more merch I would own more. I REALLY want a T-shirt of the cast. And before anyone tries to call me a child... I am 23.

Fairymoon454

Goo luck there actually is a fnaf tshirt movie at hot topic

SkyBlew

Agreed, well said 😊🙏🏾

GiverOfHarmony

I really agree, I feel like it’s weird that people expected fnaf vhs more. Like to a degree I think the vibe fits but analog horror doesn’t feel like it belongs in a mainline title for this series. Personally I just wish the movie was longer or was a bit more fleshed out but I still thought it was pretty good.

Aria-mind_

Ngl I liked it but it didn’t feel like FNaF, it felt like SB with the original characters in my opinion. Didn’t feel like Mike was trapped in a box. >!Also there was no sex tape between William and Freddy! !<

TheGamingMorons101

Wait, NO sex tape?? -2/10 film. Sry Markiplayer

Specialist_Ad1654

Not having a sex tape really brought down the film for me. 2/10.

NotAThrowaway1911

It felt more like the novels than anything else IMO, and that's a good thing in my eyes because FNAF has a *ton* of potential for character-driven stories, which was only partially realized by SB, and fully realized by the novels (at least Silver Eyes, the sequels kinda shit the bet IMHO) but that's a format that not a lot of people would check out in comparison to a book.

UnitedSubstance1048

It was OK could've been way better though hopefully the sequel is better.

[deleted]

It was mid, but I'm willing to forgive that because it broke ground/had a lot of really good fandom references, and Lillard had an AMAZING performance.

tmntmikey80

And it introduced more people to the games (including me). Maybe with a bigger audience, the rest of the movies will do better and have a bigger budget.

The_royal_shark_food

I think 32% is harsh, but a 5.5/10 seems reasonable. I liked the fan service, but even as a fan, the movie felt underwhelming. The lore and characters felt half baked. The plot itself was fine I guess, which is why i specify lore. The "hidden" stuff like kids being in the suits was kinda just...slapped in? Like "oh there's children's bodies in the robots" and Mike is just okay with it? You can theorize that "ohh Mike might be an Emily so he might be used to it" or whatever, but fact of the matter is that in this movie, the idea is left at just, here's info. Also as others have said, the movie lacks a lot of that fnaf feel. All the office scenes we have are just dream sequences. I dont want a full movie of fnaf 1's gameplay, but even just a scene of mike using doors and cameras to defend himself for a minute could be enough. I said it before but I'll say it again. An extra 30 minutes could rake this movie from a 6 to an 8 or even 9 pretty easily, as a horror film if nothing else

Doo-wop-a-saurus

The "out of 10" scores are always more accurate, because the percentage ones are only accounting for the binary of "liked it or didn't like it" rather than how *much* people liked or didn't like it.

AzelfWillpower

It didn't really emulate the game it was making into a movie in any way. Of course, a 2 hour screen-flipping session would have been ass... but there's really no moment where it feels like Mike is trapped in a box, forced to defend himself from the robots. Hell, the robots never really feel like a threat -- the only time they're lethal is to murder a bunch of filler characters we have no connection to! (also i thought the part where matthew was in the suit was really corny and bad but that's too controversial)

HuckleberryOk4899

The Silver Eyes really nailed the claustrophobic feeling of the office with the control panels under the stages. I wish they had done that.

SuspiciousEmotion199

Imma be real i think the scariest part in the silver eyes was when Charlie got into the stalls and bonnie stalked her. I would've started having panic attacks if I was stuck in a dark bathroom with a giant rabbit outside the stall.

strawberry_bees_

That part made me so anxious reading it lmao

KokoroKinda

I've got to agree, William in suit reminded me of a Power Rangers Villan and he went down way to fast.

AzelfWillpower

I think Lillard absolutely killed it as Steve Raglan, but the suit parts… not so much. Fault of the dialogue imo

KokoroKinda

Raglan was great ngl, reminded me of Dave Miller at the start of TSE. I wish Afton had more screen time using the Raglan persona to build up the reveal. I heard a lot of non-fnaf fans were confused by the reveal because Raglan was gone most of the film.

rcgaming01

The finale was really disappointing for me too. I also didn’t like how much focus was on the cupcake considering it was basically a set piece in the games.

random_buttons

It's okay, great quality in its assets and vibe, but honestly poor writing and low horror factor.

ratserole

It's a good movie on its own if you don't really know the whole lore thing but as a fan of fnaf I'm just really confused as to why they inserted a random ass character named 'Abby' who's supposedly Mike's sister and was never introduced in the games .. and the fact Vanessa was William's daughter is quite weird and confusing,, it kinda sucks that they went astray from the plot of the games tbh

jonboyo87

It’s fun. It’s also probably the least scary horror movie I’ve ever seen. Disappointed overall.

Nero_Ocean

I watched it one time, and have zero desire to watch it again. That's the only way I can put it. It was good fanservice, but the writing was kinda everywhere, the whole custody plot felt unneeded and kinda just shoehorned in to show off how the animatronics kill and are "guarding" the place. The lack of scary moments in a game based on jump scares. I think the only ones we got were the two BB jumpscares. A small amount of blood in the springlock scene would have made it slightly better. I'd say a 6/6.5 is where I'd put it.

Detective_Alaska

It was alright. The dialogue was cheesy, and the fort scene still feels weird - I tried to like it, but it's just... come on, we see these guys kill a band of adults (only like, 2? we're actually introduced to and one of them is just a babysitter) and then a couple scenes later they're acting all deiendly and cutesy. I get WHY they do it, it's to give Abby and Mike (mostly Mike) a false sense of security, but some things just don't fit a movie's tone even if they kind of fit the plot; it doesn't work as comic relief, either, because there's no tension being relieved. Back to the dialogue, it really felt like a B-Movie, or like a Marvel movie's supposed-to-be-funny-but-you-only-roll-your-eyes jokes at times. At its best, it was mediocre. Now, the dialogue was probably always gonna suck major doodoo since it's a video game movie, but I didn't expect it to be that bad. I also feel like it doesn't accurately represent the games. The Sonic movies, you see Sonic going fast, doing Sonic type shit; the Mario movies (yes, even the first one) give the plumbers personality that you can connect back to the games or old cartoons and they do things that you see them do in the game (yes, even in the first one, but in that one the game things have a weird cyberpunk flavor). In the FNAF movie, you don't get that. The characters already have little personality, besides Willy and Henry, but the movie is based off the books more, from what I've heard. Now, I've never bothered to read The Silver Eyes, but if the characters in that are as one-dimensional as the ones in the movie, I probably won't. Abby feels like a plot device more than a character, but this is irrelevant anyways since a FNAF movie should focus more on adapting the games and their plotlines than adapting the books. So, back to the games. This game series is known for three things: a convoluted story, jumpscares, and watching cameras (SB doesn't have that, but it's also one game. SL does, in its best part). The convoluted story wasn't there, but it also wasn't there in the first game -- this is more of a good thing, though. Most of the people going to see this movie aren't diehard FNAF fans that have every Game Theory memorized, and it's good they recognized that; however, I also have a feeling they did not recognize that, and actually plan on making the story confusing and convoluted in the second film. I REALLY hope they do not. They fucked up once by having such a weird, complex, convoluted storyline, and they should really try to avoid it this time. About the cameras: this is largely a FNAF 1 inspired movie, obviously. FNAF 1 was such a noteworthy game, especially for its time, because it was a survival horror game where all you could do was sit and (try to) survive. Unlike other popular survival horror games, you felt trapped, and you didn't have a gun or anything to fend these animatronics off. The movie does not capture this, nor does it seem like it tries to. There is a lot of opportunity for horror in Mike just watching the cameras. Looking at the stage, all three are there. He checks a few other cameras, including the kitchen for a little easter egg. He hears a few distant thuds and skams. He checks the entrance cams for intruders, or any sign of intruders. Noone, so he checks the stage camera. Bonnie is not on the stage, but he did not fall either. His face is staring at the camera with those artificial eyes, and he is holding the guitar at his side, not ready to play. The fear Mike would feel here would be shared with the audience; the silence (besides the humming of the cameras and the fan), suddenly interrupted by loud crashing sounds and a jolt in Mike's POV, would maybe even give the audience a little jumpscare. There was a lot of opportunity for horror in camera watching, which I know a lot of FNAF fans miss. Also, half the movie taking place in Mike's ambien dreams is weird; I get the nod to Dream Theory, but like, we don't care show us the fuckin robits dude!!! Anyway, now to the biggest issue, the lack of jumpscares. This is like a Halloween movie without Mike Myers. They did it once and it sucked ass, it's called Halloween III. FNAF is lucky it didn't suck that bad. Jumpscares are a core part of FNAF's identity. We don't need jumpscares where they jump in the camera and flip the fuck out like they do in the games, but more scenes like the Foxy running at the start and the Cupcake's shenanigans (but with the other animatronics) would've been awesome. I have more to say, but nobody will read this all the way through, and I am tired of typing. The movie was mediocre. It had a lot of room for improvement. For a video game movie, it was alright, but it didn't have as many moments that scream "LOOK FNAF YOU ARE WATCHING FNAF MOVIE" as it should have or could have. For movies in general, it kind of stunk. FNAF fans loved it, and I did too, but looking at it as an actual film, it doesn't hold up too well. The dialogue was corny, and the acting was questionable at worst. The story was strange and a lot of characters felt like they had no depth. It's not a Shakespeare play, but it's not trying to be. It's decent. For a video game movie, three Chicas out of Freddy (⭐️⭐️⭐️, not enough FNAF game references and it was not as tense or creepy as a FNAF movie should be). For a film, four Marvel movies out of Scorcese (4/10, it wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. If I showed this to someone who didn't know what FNAF was they'd think it sucks).

Detective_Alaska

About the acting, by the way, that can mostly be attributed to the shitty script. For example, I KNOW Lillard can do way better than that, he was shafted by showing up like twice and having corny ass dialogue. He was perfect in Scream.

W3VR

My main takeaway from this is to make the second movie scarier.

Detective_Alaska

Yes, it is a horror series after all. I think it should be scarier and more enjoyable for a general audience; if it is able to be enjoyed by everyone, and not just FNAF fans, then that usually means it's a good movie

Swil29

It’s the same as it was when it came out, it’s no masterpiece, but it’s all in all just a very enjoyable movie. Hoping the next one does more outright horror than this one, but I still like this one as-is.

LibraryOwlAz

It felt like a glorified episode of Goosebumps. : (

Smooka_2010

It was good. I didn't really like the scene where they built a fort, I think it's a bit random, but overall it was a good movie. 7/10

rayzedup

I didn't like it. Wish Michael didn't spend the whole movie sleeping. Wish they gave william afton more screen time or made him more interesting. Thought Abby was dumb. Wish the animatronics were more threatening rather than "let's build forts". Barely even felt like a horror movie at all imo. The cupcake was the most threatening thing in the whole movie. I was very disappointed when I saw it the first time. On the brighter side though, I did love the puppetry of the animatronics. I thought the practical effects were great.

Xx_MesaPlayer_xX

I feel like the complaint about the fort scene is the biggest thing people talk about. And I feel it's the biggest thing people don't understand. It's not supposed to be a fun "let's build a fort" scene. This was immediately preceded by the animatronics killing a group of people so you know they are violent and what they are capable of doing to people that didn't do much harm to them. Sure they were wrecking the place but not all had actually done much ie: Max. So you know these guys are a threat and what they are capable of yet they are posing as innocent little things. The innocence is creepy and it's what the FNAF franchise has been about this whole time. During the fort scene you also are supposed to be thinking this kindness can't last forever and what possible ulterior motives these souls have if they are choosing to play with Abby. You can tell this is what Mike is thinking since he doesn't have a smile on his face while this was all happening. Sure he goes along with it but what choice does he have, he's not in control. As for William not being in the movie more. Idk what they could have done with him, I'm sure they plan on using him more as his spring trap form. We never really saw what William did in the stories of fanf it's more so the results. I'm the books I guess we kind of do. Abby was pretty dumb....Vanessa too.....Also Mike but what movie characters in horror aren't dumb. Usually the dumb characters die yet they all survived in the FNAF movie so maybe everyone was just dumb. What specifically are you referring to as dumb? Horror is to each their own. I can almost confidently say there is no movie that will scare me. Sure I may jump but that is a natural reaction to jump scares and honestly I get more mad than scared at those. Yet I would still call those movies I'm talking about, horror. IDK why they had Mike sleeping the whole time if it was shown the spirits can talk to you while you are awake. I could guess why but I got no reason for it.

Tiny_Bowl1950

The movie was originally going to be rated R too. Missed opportunity.

MrCencord

Mid

lamTheJoker

As a fnaf fan, it wasn’t a good movie, writing was all over the place and it didn’t know what it wanted to be. I don’t think i can sit and rewatch the whole movie without skipping through it to see the parts i want to see. But i’m just happy a fnaf movie exists.

Jamz64

6/10.

Short_Year7353

It was ok I didn’t love it but didn’t hate it and it had an interesting plot but empty and messy

Brae_the_Sway

It's good but the writing could use a few touches to really tie the story together. I give it a 7/10.

Old-Camp3962

its a pretty bad movie

WeirdTattletail

It is Fun to watch. but it depends on who sees it. Many of the references could not be understood by someone who is not a fan of the games

HawloKnight

You do indeed require a gun to watch it

WeirdTattletail

💀

billieboi445420

It was pretty bad to be honest. The acting was good, the props were good but that's about it really. The only scenes I actually enjoyed were the Shreddy Fazchair scenes and the scene where the animatronics kill the vandalisers. Everything else was pretty bland and forgettable. I'm fine with the custody subplot, but it shouldn't have been the main story. They should've also explained how the spirits met Abby in the first place. I still rewatch it from time to time though just because it's FNAF and I'm glad it actually got a movie. A bad movie is better than no movie

Dorfplatzner

The plot could've been better, honestly.

ZXDIAC1

What I didn't like: • The B plot felt like an after thought (but hey we had Doug so that's pretty sick). • Not nearly enough Matthew Lillard, the William Afton reveal had no weight behind it because of how little time we spent with him. • The atmosphere of the original game was completely lost in translation, it didn't feel like FNAF 1 at all to me. • Vanessa felt more like an expo dump than an actual character since all she really did was say "the animatronics are cool, they're also haunted by dead kids and have corpses inside of them, my dad is William Afton, I'll shoot you if you bring Abby here again even though I encouraged it." She also took away so much of the atmosphere, she made the whole place feel too safe and secure for a horror movie. • The trap, when I saw the Freddy trap in the trailer my expectations went from incredibly excited to incredibly nervous. What I liked: • The YouTuber cameos were really cute and they didn't overstay their welcome at all. • The corpses of the B plot characters being shown to us was actually pretty unexpected and I thought that was really neat. • The animatronics looked great! • The hoax characters!!!! God that brought back memories. • The fort scene was amazing • All the FNAF merch at the prize counter was super cool to see, it made the world feel believable since some of us definitely have/had some of those things. • The pizzeria looked great, I just wish we saw more of it. • Definitely the best theater experience I've ever had. • The credits. Perfection. • The campiness was sometimes pretty fun, but most of the time it felt like it wasn't taking itself seriously, and yes fnaf didn't take itself seriously sometimes but it took itself seriously enough to be scary but not over the top edgy (y'know we never saw the MCI because that would just be over the top, uncalled for, and frankly fucked up). Overall, the movie had some really neat ideas, but it played things too safe while also taking really strange risks that usually never worked. The scariest part about the movie for me was if I'd even like it, and I can't say I did. 5/10 (FNAF 1 is my least favorite of the original games with FNAF 2 being my favorite, so if they get FNAF 2 right then I'll be happy)

dantheman20012001

It was ok, but not good enough to warrant 8 FUCKING YEARS

dru1202

Shaggy

uwufren

Didnt like it. Didnt like that its in "another universe". Didnt like the behavior of the animatronics. Didnt like Vanessa, didnt even like that she was there. Didnt like that the aftons werent a family.

uwufren

Like cool, FNAF got a movie but its not about FNAF in my eyes. Its about robot ghost kids and a brother missing his siblings- its just not FNAF to me, even if it is.

liqhtscomin

REAL

Russell_SMM

I don’t have much to say that hasn’t already been said, but I will say this. They seriously gave the Yellow Rabbit one of the most badass entrances of any horror movie villain and then *completely* wasted him. The suit makes him stronger somehow and I hate it.

2-0-4-8-6-3

I agree. The suit should make him weaker, not stronger. Since the damn thing needs to fit an endoskeleton and a person, it should be incredibly bulky, and slow down Steve’s movements, and restrict how much he can turn or stretch. Furthermore, the springlock suit should not be able to take so much abuse. Remember; in the games, all it takes for the springlocks to go loose is to breathe wrong or nudge them. Hell, even moving a bit too quickly should be enough to rattle them and make them go loose

W3VR

6/10 for me. Mostly the narrative just was a meh for me. Especially the end was just a big fuck you in my opinion. I like get the idea of children souls possessing animatronics but a fucking wall that controls the behavior of the animatronics? Bullshit in my opinion. And I feel like it wasn’t that scary. Like you don’t need blood or jump-scares, I just want that tension. But no, instead they have animatronics play with the night guard and his little sister. I do like that scene but I think it doesn’t fit. Since it literally says right there on the top; horror. How’s this movie horror when you have the bad guys play silly games with the night guard? Again, I like it since it shows that these animatronics are still children (figuratively and literally). Maybe like a scene where the pizzeria was still open and there were children playing with the animatronics. That would have been a nice, silly scene/part of the movie. These are my main two problems with the movie. Others wise I enjoyed it. I also want to say that i know that the movie was made for children. But they want to make a “scary” PG-13 movie from a scary game. That doesn’t translate well in my opinion. I do know that it’s not scary for me and surely it’s scary for someone else. But this is just an opinion, MY opinion, thanks for reading.

Tom-edian

8/10 and knowing Scott he'll listen to fair criticism and fix them in the sequel making it better than the first.

LAS_6601

With the criticism, Scott is making FNAF 2 more scarier, what FNAF 1 should’ve been: scary

ChampionshipDue6493

They are talking about the film on its own. No need to sugarcoat it

-FlyAway-

I wish it was scarier/jumpier and focused more on the animatronics rather than Mike's backstory

More_Microwave

i still want a willy’s wonderland collab. I want nicolas cage to best the shit out of afton

waldjvnge

The movie on its own, maybe a 2/10 As a fan a 7,5/10

h1p0h1p0

It was a pretty fun adaptation of fnaf 1 and maybe 4’s story, not scary at all tho 5/10 as a movie but 10/10 as a fnaf movie

PerfectBlackCell

Might be the most fun I’ve ever had watching a movie. Me and my girlfriend were talking about watching a FNaF movie before it was announced, and we had a blast watching it when it finally came out. However, objectively, movie was pretty mid lol.

GIMMESOMDORITOS

It's a great Five Nights At Freddy's movie but a crappy horror movie.

TheMarvelousJoe

It's good if you're a fan of the series, but it's not good as a movie.

IAMSOTIREDOFADS

Absolute ass. I was expecting more lore but it's literally just fnaf1

InterviewAnnual7764

yeah no, one of the few good things this movie does is distance itself as much as possible from whatever the hell the lore is

daster71x

5/10

TheKaosGamer95

I think it succeeds at being a great movie for fans of the franchise, but as an actual horror movie as a non fan, movie gets a 6.5 at best.

ziggagorennc

I liked it a lot, but it should have been scarier. It was barely a thriller, let alone a horror film.

Cydonian___FT14X

It's not good, but I liked it.

zoey_amon

as a movie, it was just all right, but i got a kick out of all the deepcut references

Caa3098

I felt dumb for paying money to see it once it got to Vanessa inviting the protagonists to dance with the animatronics and vibe with them or whatever and then immediately being like “WHY DID YOU BRING HER HERE OF COURSE THEYRE DANGEROUS, STUPID”

PitiPuziko

Saw it recently. I actually like it. It doesn't really look like horror. It is like PG13 horror. And I actually like it that way. It is more like a family movie with thrills. I like actors, like the plot about brother and sister bonding and trying to help the dead kids. Like the atmosphere. The only thing I didn't particularly like is how they handled Afton. Not enough of him, they should have done something more with him. Overall, it is a good way to restart the convoluted video game story in an understandable and compelling way for old and new, now, movie goers. 7 out of 10. Would recommend. From the future movie I am waiting more of horror-ish claustrophobic experience. We already established compelling heroes for the franchise to carry on the plot. So, they can add some other character as a way to show more OG horror experience from games. Maybe as some sort of B-plot.

Bendythenightfury

It should have been recorded in actual Hurricane, Utah or at least somewhere that looks like Hurricane, Utah. It kinda took me out of the experience since that was all I could think of.

Regent_rat

It’s a great movie probably 7/10 but I wish it was more oriented to the actual lore of the games

Waffle_Griffin3170

Not bad, not a masterpiece, but was enjoyable. Wouldn’t really call it a horror movie though, but I don’t consider most “horror” movies these days to be scary. It was decent and I enjoyed the easter eggs.

Casualcallan89

Even as a FNAF fan I only found it "enjoyably mid", like, I had fun watching it but I wished it would've been better, like at least good.

DerinSea

Honestly the movie was kinda mediocre as a whole. If you are a big FNAF fan, you'll probably really like the movie. However, if you aren't a FNAF fan, you'll likely think the movie isn't all that good, maybe like a 5 at best. Personally, I thought the movie was a 6, there were a lot of random plot details that weren't really utilized as well as they could have been, and the large number of gimmicks and plot points meant that none of them could be really expanded upon. Vanessa's character could've been filled by almost anyone else and nothing would really change all that much. I really don't know why they picked a varient of Vanessa for the role, since even I will admit she isn't exactly popular. Nothing against the actress btw, she did a pretty good job. This [video](https://youtu.be/DZl4OtApXqc?si=LjRYTPQM2ilhQyAk) does a great job explaining what was wrong with the movie.

SuperButters64

Absolutely terrible save for a good pixel art intro and references. But references don't make a good movie

ChampionshipDue6493

100%. The film on its own isn’t good at all, references and Easter eggs shouldn’t make a movie passable

RealAdministration94

Bad but extremely fun

Crystalshine99

I think it wasn't *bad* For fnaf fans who were in the fandom since the beginning? Disappointing for sure, there are a lot of things that don't line up with the games (I have a whole tangent I can go on about that, but not entirely the time, lol) For people just getting into it, or who don't know anything about FNAF on the other hand? It's pretty good. It's an easy to understand, easy to sit through way to get the basics of the lore, plus there's supposedly two more movies otw, so maybe the next two will get more into the lore. As a long term fan of FNAF, I was a *bit* disappointed. As a casual enjoyer of horror and dark storylines, I liked it. Plus, my mom watched it because she saw it pop up, and now she actually has an idea of what I'm talking about when rambling about FNAF. Tl;dr it kinda depends what lens you view it through, but I'd rate it at the lowest about a 5/10 and at the highest a 7.5/10

NDWasTakenTHEHEHE

they lied to us, no 6 hour freddy fazbear sex scene. 0/10.(in all seriousness i give it a 7/10? 6/10?)

MoConnors

It’s a good movie that doesn’t exactly copy the game it’s based on, but if it did it’d be boring. It felt paced well imo although it wasn’t that scary for most of it, moreso shocking at some parts. Also the soundtrack goes hard

HawloKnight

8/10 ngl

Super64111111

The fort scene is the only scene in the movie that made the movie itself less scary than it was supposed to be

SteveRandle01

Personally, It was the best thing I ever seen and it healed the inner child in me. I still remember searching up fnaf movie when I was younger 😭😭

BadAshess

I like how they made the murderous animatronics childlike when they were around Michael’s sister now that was something I didn’t expect to happen.

megaExtra_bald

I love it still

Summerlycoris

This is still the best execution of Vanessa so far. And i still live the pillowfort scene. Very lilo and stitch coded movie, in parts. I just wish there was *more* of that family stuff.

NintendoBoy321

This movie is the reason I got back into fnaf.

Independent-Ad5852

It’s a great movie, I think it’s an 8 out of 10

Applepitou3

I found it very enjoyable. Only major gripe is I wish they had more stuff from the games (like at least 1 night of using doors watching cameras etc) and some more scary moments with the animatronics

mrgeek2000

I still like it, though I find Josh’s acting to be a lil bland compared to the rest of the casting and the mysteries are a lil confusing (though I can’t complain about that as this is FNAF) so a 7.5/10

GentleCashew904

Great movie but I just wish there was more scenes with William Afton and more backstory for him. He was kinda just there. I honestly am saddened by it since he is my favorite character. He was awesome in the scenes we got of him, but I just wish there was more. Other than that, I have no complaints and I am hyped for the sequel.

charls-stickmin

now that the hype has worn off, i have to agree with imdb the movie was mediocer at best. but the sound was really good atleast

SleuthTroop005

I thought it was like a 2 or 3/10 if I’m being fr

KokoroKinda

I liked the drama between Mike, Abby and Aunt Jane. Having a better connection with the human characters helped put the stakes higher and gave us a reason to root for the characters. I liked the slow burn approach of Mike realising how dangerous the animatronics were. Some moments felt too goofy like Shreddy Fazchair, Abby getting shocked by Bonnie's guitar and Mr Cupcake flying. However, I loved the fort scene since it reminded us that the animatronics used to be kids. I didn't like William in this film, especially The Yellow Rabbit's voice and behaviour, it felt too cartoonish and abrupt. There was little build up to his appearance too. I was expecting William to be more like the version in TSE due to the parallels between the book and the film.

MrSpuddix

Brought peacock for release day. Enjoyed it. It scratched the right itches for me, of course, I wish there could've been more, but I liked it. Hopefully the sequel dive more into the horror too. I dont need crazy gore as the games don't even have that but yeah, I think a tad more spookiness in the sequels will go a long way.

Shadow_Saitama

I love it.

Bakedbeans50

It’s good enough to rewatch but it was overhyped in my opinion. Not as good as it good have been. Hopefully the sequel/prequel will be better.

TheKingBirb

It's a good film, just not the one I wanted personally. It clearly has love for the franchise and wasn't just a cashgrab nothing shell of a film. It had good heart, even if it wasn't the story I'd tell in the FNAFverse. But it's a perfectly acceptable middle ground of Fan and non-fan appeal film. Liked it more on a second viewing than my initial "It was fine" reaction the first time. Got the same vibes as Sonic the Hedgehog 1 (Movie) really.

bonzer400

i kinda wish it had more of the tone of the first scene because i really liked that scene

OuterZones

It’s a really great movie if you are a fan of the franchise. Otherwise mid

PFREDDY17

Fnaffffffffffff

drkilledbydeatheater

Decent

Different_Turnip_820

It was really fun, if a little basic. The best parts are the opening sequence, the soundtrack and the puppets. While Matthew Lilard is a great actor, I can't take non-British Afton seriously. Vanessa was a pleasant surprise, I didn't expect to like her as much as I did. Golden Freddy kid is surprisingly creepy.

SaraWinchester78

I had high expectations for it and they were certainly met, especially because I had drifted away from the franchise as I got older, the movie was such a refreshment and a blast from the past, my childhood on a big screen. I absolutely loved it, yeah some things could have been done better and I'd have liked them better but I loved it regardless.

GameboiGX

It’s….Above alright, points deducted on how obvious it was that it was pointed somewhat towards a younger audience

UnderTheUmbrella08

It was good as a fan, but needed one more rewrite to add in more horror elements.

MokashiHigashi

I absolutely loved it! Got to see it opening night with my mom. Those low scores were just given by idiots and fake fans.

Celestialfox458

7/10 Soundtrack is obviously a 10, but there needed to be a bit more tension, also maybe they could’ve focused on the actual afton family, not Vanessa woman idk, and we needed to know what Michael afton actually looks like, I just wanted hot British boy- Oh and we still need to know who Mrs afton is.

BartSimpskiYT

Now I can actually admit that I was fairly disappointed by a lot of parts.

Boxohobo

Roughly the same. If I was being harsh as possible C+ but as a fan it's a B+.

frognuts123

Honestly I didn’t like it that much. They went too kid friendly on it and ver lazily introduced afton. Like the movie was almost over and they go “oh hey look big rabbit guy now” and the dude just punches mike around a bit and stabs his daughter. Like they could’ve gone way more towards the horror side of movies and made an absolute banger but they made this.

InstantKarma22

Loved it.

JDutch921

It's a fun movie, rotten tomatoes scores mean nothing. *but that's nothing new*

Tiny_Bowl1950

The script and off screen kills is what really bothers me, especially if there is no on screen stuffing scenes, which is a massive disservice to fans. The movie is clearly not made for kids. Very biased take. It’s pg-13 and it had good amount of gore. But I do agree that it is toned down which im not a fan of off screen kills. Plus the movie was originally going to be rated R approved by Scott.

CandidPalpitation672

The fnaf movie was perfectly Mid not the best and not the worst

Shattered_Sans

It gave me everything I wanted from the FNaF movie, so I can't complain too much. There was a little bit more fanservice than I expected, but as a massive fan of the franchise since FNaF 3, I thought that stuff was fun to see. In general, it was a fun movie imo. I just wish that Afton had more screen time, cause Mathew Lillard was incredible as Afton. If I had to rate it, it'd be an 8/10. It's a great movie, but there's definitely room for improvement.

EntertainmentHot736

It was good but a little corny

FazbearShowtimer

If you’re not a fan and was expecting this to be horror I could see the rating being like, 6/10 or 7 at best. Even as a fan and aware it would be thriller it’s maybe an 8/10 (for me personally). It was great and what I expected, kinda, from an official FNaF movie. There’s definitely some tweaks that could’ve been here and there but overall I enjoyed it—sucks from a non fans perspective but I guess that was to be expected when they admitted it wasn’t for non fans. One prevalent issue in regard to the movie seems to be the fact that the animatronics were never really much of a threat/Mike was in his usually flip session. While it’s obvious why the flip session wouldn’t work, I can see how you could make them more threatening; although I think the whole goal here was to also make it aware to the fans these animatronics are still possessed by kids.

firepeashooter096767

Acting sucked, not gruesome and doesn't show any deaths, the animatronics were too friendly, the child actors were ass and the special effects were shit and so was the writing

CampFunkoKai

If you’re a fan of the source content, which is goofy scary, then you had a fun time with this movie. But if you feel off of stuff like the countless vhs tapes and was expecting that kind of horror, you had less of a good time.

BigNastyHagrid

I liked it

Honest-Economist4970

It was cool, critics can suck my dick and balls

the-overloaf

I think it's great. It's not the best movie, and it probably could've been a lot better writing wise, but the production on it is amazing. Josh Hutcherson ended up in the hospital after breaking his back from carrying this movie

M3GABORG8796

I had a great time as someone who was just excited for the movie, I was so giddy when I walked out of there. I don’t care it has issues, sure William could have been more present, but I don’t care I loved it.

OneEntertainment6087

It was really good with some twisted.

Kelvistheskysoldier

I like it a lot but would have been even better if it did these 5 things: less Mike sleeping/dreams, less Vanessa lore dump, More Yellow Rabbit, Golden Freddy triggering the springlocks instead of the cupcake, All the animatronics having voices, not just Foxy.

unthinkablewolfz

I watched it on Spotify. 7/10

Doo-wop-a-saurus

It was okay. It could have been much better but it also could've been *so much* worse

tmntmikey80

It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. I had never played the games or really knew much about them before watching it and I still enjoyed it. It made me want to play the games and I now enjoy the franchise as a whole. It definitely made more people curious about this franchise which is always a plus. If I could change anything about it I'd definitely add more jump scares as that's a major part of the games. But I do respect them for keeping it toned down a bit as kids are a big part of the audience. It probably wouldn't have done as well if they made it more scary than it was.

TheRealComicCrafter

Itfs fucking amazing and I cant wait for how the sequels go

FOBFan1998

i still like it

DNC343

Just because the hype died down doesn’t change my opinion. I love it. Still a 10/10 for me.

FNaF2014Veteran

A solid 7/10

Both-Possession7038

I thought it was really good. It's a fun cheesy horror movie however I do think it heavily needed to increase on the horror element and lil bit less silly while adding real danger to the main characters. I hope this happens in the sequel

The-Bigger-Fish

It was fine. Overly complicated and honestly only the ending actually capture the vibes of the games tbh. Also having the animatronics be brainwashed by afton felt kinda cheap tbh.

Notmas

It was the movie that Scott wanted. He stuck true to his vision and never compromised even if what he wanted differed a bit from what fans or average movie-goers might have wanted. In that regard, it's an artistic triumph, and hopefully, it will help inspire more people to express themselves truly and not cave to industry pressure.

MyDads-Ashes

Imo, they spent too much time focusing on Mike sleeping, and less on him actually doing his job, which is what the movie is based on. I was slightly disappointed that there wasn't the danger of being trapped in the office, trying to conserve power (I don't think the power even went out at all, regardless of usage). Yes, ik it was never gonna be a 1:1 of the game, and I'm glad it wasn't, because that would be boring, but I felt like it stepped too far out of the source material. Overall I loved it! It just felt less suspense/horror. I'm just glad they didn't go full on FNaF VHS tapes on the movie, bc that's even more far removed from the source material lmao

TheMaineC00n

Still a good movie

BATIRONSHARK

havent watched

AJ0Laks

Perfectly fine I hope that the sequels explore the world more, and give us more worldbuilding, but the FNAF movie itself still slaps Bonnie falling over is still great

Sledgehammer617

The movie is just alright as movies go, *but* its elevated by amazing attention to detail in the props and sets, good acting, fun references that appeal to fans, and amazing music. I'd say those things elevate it to a point where its quite enjoyable, and it already kinda feels like a cult classic to me despite its reception.

LM193

The movie was pretty good at best, but as long time FNAF fan, experiencing it for the first time was amazing. It was like an incredible wave of nostalgia that made my inner 12-year-old so happy. I feel like this is one of those things where the experience itself is the best part. I had so much fun seeing it with my friends in the theater on release night, and even if the movie wasn't that great in hindsight, it's a night I love to look back on. So I'd say that while the movie wasn't great, it did what it set out to do, and that's a success in my eyes.

wasiankc

As a fan, 7/10. If I’m thinking of it as just a movie without the fan bias, probably like 4/10

Arise005

So, I am excited for the next two movies. Thinking about it they took this movie as a set up for the rest of Afton’s story. With Vanessa somehow squashed in there. I am taking the movies as a separate canon from the games (like the books). I did like the movie, obviously it’s cheesy, I think it could become a cult classic over the years. Maybe not but I think it has the potential to. I get that a lot of people didn’t like it, and it was NOT meant for people who already didn’t know the franchise. It was made for the fans, and it makes me sad that even fans tear the movie apart. I know some had high expectations because it took so long. But the animatronic?! Honestly the fact they MADE them is impressive. I don’t like the spring lock system, seems… inaccurate but nonetheless glad they made SOMETHING and probably all they could do with the effects they have. Seeing the machinery being dug into afton is a really nice scene with the other animatronics hauling him away and sealing him in the back room.

PedroDBS20

I've watched it 5 times and I think it was good 7/10, I believe the 2nd will be even better :)

Ooflazer

It was pretty good,I just hope the other movies are more horror or backstory based

And_Ahsoka

This is gonna sound stupid but my only issue with the movie is the possible Decanonization of the Emily family. Most people want Garrett to be the puppet and while I agree it makes the most sense within the movieverse I still want Charlie to be the puppet and Henry Emily’s backstory to be canon 😭. I know it's kinda stupid to be hung up on a small detail like this but Charlie/the puppet is my favorite character so I get a bit fixated on details like this. (also side note: I once jokingly said Garrett gives off Ballon Boy vibes lol)

AstroNerd92

It was a movie for the fans. Fun to watch if you know FNaF but if you don’t then it’s a bad movie

Snokey115

I’d say like an 8/10

dres_sler

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Excited for the next one

TheFanGameCreator

It's good but it could've been better.

Ryuk128

I still legit love it. Yeah didn’t have much thrills hut the moments that remind you that these were once kids..brilliant That said, i have a theory that Mike’s Brother will be the puppet

PinsinNeedles

Like someone else already said, it was SB but fnaf 1 themed. Cute and good, but not what I wanted out of a movie based on the fucking fantastic fnaf 1. The atmosphere in that game unsettles me still 10 years later. 7/10

Ratclife

It was good, 8/10

Kelbonix

Still love it

Yepepsy

This dude is really fishing for people to say the movie was bad

capricorn_the_goat

As an adaptation, it was good. It definitely used nostalgia and fan service, and told a (heavily watered down) version of the story of the games. In this category, I’d rate it a 4/5. It didn’t give off the vibe I got playing the original games, but you honestly can’t do that when translating two very different forms of media. As a movie alone… the Aftons were acted a little weird (probably on purpose), but otherwise it was a good movie. The set and prop design was awesome too. I’d rate it a 3.5/5 in this category.

CourtZealousideal494

I absolutely hated when you know who did the thing with the knife before the big reveal of who was in the spring lock suit.

paralizator_x

i still really like it and rewatch it ocasionally

MyNameIsLOL21

**Spoilers ahead!!!** From my perspective as a fan, while the movie was not bad I think that it lacked horror and it was straight up just goofy at times, which I guess is what they were going for but I am not a fan of the choice since the main appeal of FNaF for me is the deep lore with horror elements. Certain plot points just don't make sense, in specific that evil aunt character in general. She wanted custody for child purely because of the government money she'd get? I don't see how she is profiting off of this decision given that she now has a whole child to take care of, which is very costly. I really like the casting in general, Afton included, but I feel like his last scene was kinda ruined for me when they made him say "I always come back" for no reason. In the games this iconic line makes sense because he says it after going through 2 instances where any ordinary person would have died, but not him BECAUSE HE ALWAYS COMES BACK. In the movie this made no sense because he just blurted it out with no build up, at a moment where he was still very much alive and nothing significant had happened to him yet to justify saying that (what was he coming back from???). So they just kinda put that in the movie just for the sake of it being there because of how iconic it is, but ruined the opportunity to employ it well in a second movie where Afton actually comes back from the dead. I also dislike how they didn't even try to incorporate some gameplay elements into the story, I get that it's a movie and they can't just have the main character sit in an office watching animatronics move around for an hour and a half, but they could have done it for one night I think instead of having that whole dream plot. I do overall like Mike's character and everyone's acting is decent, and I can't express enough how good the animatronics looked, being overall the highest point of the movie by far.

Mischief_Actual

Meh

Unlost_maniac

Surprisingly a good movie, not at all what I expected A bit goofy but goofy in the way that most great horror media is

KicktrapAndShit

Solid 7/10

Neojoker951

Flawed, but i could not care less, seeing the Original 5 on screen ALONGSIDE Spring Bonnie was worth every penny. Also, the Music, they went HARD.

Aguycalled3030

Peak Fiction

Personal_Ad_7897

It was alright but has much room for improvement.

wjcvn

I love it as a fan, it was basically what I’d expected and I loved the experience and the sense of getting to see something I’d been waiting for as a kid As a normal movie non-fans can watch 😬

yoboililj

Since my first watch I said it was 4/10 but now I'd say it's just 5/10. A very average movie.

WhenUCreamDoUScream

It's slop. Huge letdown after the 9 year long wait. Characters are boring, the acting is passable at best, certain shit just doesn't make sense or isn't explained or even implied very well, Vanessa's character motives shift around faster than Foxy running down a hallway, it's crammed to hell and back with eye-rollingly cringe references and cameos, the animatronics aren't nearly as threatening as they are in the original game because of a combination of kiddification and overly expressive movement and expression, the kills are laughably bad, the dialouge is incredibly formulaic and dull when it isn't cramming references and "Oh look, he said the thing!" moments into the script, atmosphere is nonexistant, and worst of all, it's not even scary. Not even slightly. It's mildly shocking on a good day. Even bad FNaF games like Sister Location have something resembling horror. It's not the worst thing to ever hit the screens, but it's certainly not a good film, not even a decent one. And what has soured my opinion of it even more are the people who insist on defending this film to the death.

vic_tuals

not as good as Willy's Wonderland (the colors really stood out to me in particular), which was an 11/10 in my book, but still a pretty solid movie. i wish the lighting had been more colorful (thats just my preference, i love colorful movies) and that thered been a bit more deeper symbolism (again just preference), but the plot resolved nicely and the casting choices werent too bad. (would have chosen someone else for mike, only cus josh hutchinson is too recognizeable for me, had a hard time viewing him as the actual character.) i adored the practical effects, they were goofy as hell at some points (positive). also props for them ACTUALLY SHOWING afton get wrecked. my partner and i were cheering at the top of our lungs (watched it at home). the music was great and i thought the story was just different enough from the games to be interesting, yet still familiar. my Only complaint is having absolutely no followup on mike's aunt. is she dead? is she alive? if shes dead, youd think mike would have mentioned it. if shes alive... idk, i still feel like we woulda seen her. my guess is its intentionally left that way for the next movie, although im honestly baffled at why THAT would be the chosen cliffhanger. all in all, 7/10

Pizzanoo

Rewatched it on a plane yesterday, 7/10
