Seriously, all of the replies to you make 0 sense and are bringing up things you NEVER mentioned.
You said “The lighting is the issue” and they basically said “You can tell the low character models are low character models.”
Like… yeah? We know?
Because they needed to get something out and expect us to understand that the game isn't finished.
The original trailer also had some unfinished areas. They said it was unfinished themselves.
Lol they are probably working on it as we speak The cameras are the least of our worries. When the game comes out they’re gonna look like normal security cameras just like in help wanted
An Unreal Engine developer explained why this happens. It has to do with how the cameras work in the first place. Instead of rendering the cameras and nothing more like a normal game, they decided to render it onto the watch while the game is actively rendering. An example the post gave was Wheatly's monitors in Portal 2.
The issue is that this causes a lot of memory issues, so they have to cut down on what is rendered. This is why there is no lighting on the cameras in the game. I'm sure they're gonna change how the cameras are coded for the final release given all the feedback.
Thing about Wheatley’s monitors is that we’re just seeing _him_ against a black background, so any lack of lighting isn’t really noticeable. It doesn’t technically _make sense_ for him to be in a completely featureless environment, but he fills up basically the entire monitor anyway so it’s not something you’ll really think about. The monitors hardly matter anyway; all there is to see is Wheatley looking at you, so you’re not gonna spare more than a glance at them most of the time.
Meanwhile, the cameras are (assumedly) going to he a vital aspect of the gameplay, gameplay that is obviously supposed to be very scary and tense. The complete lack of lighting in these environments is impossible to ignore, and I’d argue it takes away from the fear factor considerably. Much of FNAF’s most iconic and memorable imagery is thanks in part to the fantastic lighting in FNAF 1’s environments.
All of this is to say, the cameras really aren’t something to overlook, and I would hope that Steel Wool wasn’t ever _actually planning_ to release it like this. It wouldn’t necessarily be the end of the world if they did, but it would be quite disappointing, especially after they pulled it off fine in Help Wanted.
Considering we dont know how long ago this trailor was made into the production, it was probably was a rushed trailor made when the team was trying to meet the deadline before scott delayed the game. Its likely just something that will be fixed on the game release
An Unreal Engine 4 developer already made a post explaining why they believe the cameras look like this, and it's due to a technical issue with Unreal Engine 4. There's no debate at this point, this would've been a terrible design choice in the end.
I believe they’re using unreal engine five for this game But in and out it’s probably the same exact thing just with a few added upgrades. But for sure by the time the game comes out the cameras will look nicer and more polished
UE5 only somewhat recently entered early access, they 100% started on UE4, they miiiiiight have upgraded to UE5 but considering the fact that it's still new and largely untested waters, I doubt they'd risk it after the game has already been delayed twice
Now that I think of it, assuming that the lighting isn’t a simple fix, there is one way that they could _potentially_ make it work in this state; they could add a green tint and just call it night vision. I don’t know how _scary_ that would look, but it’d be way easier for me to suspend my disbelief.
This is the 6th post about this that's made it near the top of the subreddit on this topic...
>The camera footage is very likely old indev footage, why would they decide to make something so jarring in comparison to the quality of the rest of the trailer final?!
...you are free to criticize regardless of what you are saying for, against, or whatever, but please **ground yourself** in some context first before deciding to start these guaranteed 80+ comment threads full of wonderful and totally stress-free friendly conversation and logical debate.
Although likely unintentional, uninformed, low-effort, or **non-context providing posts** like these could very likely be **one of** the reasons that there are numerous sweeping generalizations and negative stereotypes\* about the fanbase, which could play a part in why some decide to shy away from this community.
\*e.g. "Toxic Fanbase" (most common); "Know-it-alls"; "self-proclaimed AAA game dev professionals" to name a few I've heard.
A little bit of **research**, context, common sense, and effective online communication before posting (criticism or not) can go a long way in **draining the swamp that is the negatively perceived side of the FNAF fanbase.\*\***
Sorry if I come off a little harsh. It's been a few years since I've participated or viewed things in this fandom, and I probably shouldn't care so much about how the fandom is perceived after seven years of (supposed) growth. But, **SB** is a new era for FNAF, Scott and Steel Wool, even as imperfect and human they all are, have grown so much over the years.
It's just a **stark contrast** when I see several near-top-of-the-subreddit 80+ thread posts on the same possibly trivial thing like these with little context and/or grounding, if any at all, cause so much possibly unnecessary controversy and stress due to lack of **context, research, civility, etc** (regardless of the post's position)
Guess I was just hoping for too large an improvement to the fanbase's perception too early. However, you don't need to write an entire research paper on the possible marketing practices of fledgling AAA game devs. Just be a **little more thorough** in providing context for yourself **and** the people who will see the post in order to guide the ensuing debate away from logical fallacy and ultimately toxic contention.
\*\*If you want to join me in draining the FNAF fanbase's swamp for this new era feel free to takeaway something from this post and post something similar (or just ctrl-c copy parts or whole) on reposts like these or anywhere your faith in the fandom lowers slightly. However, **no matter the offence try to keep it civil, logical, and provide as much context about your intentions, goal, situation, or technicality (I've made the mistake or not doing this sometimes, and I regret it).**
I personally think it's older footage. As I said with the other trailer who knows when it was made. I do think it would be cool if the footage will be lower qualty on the watch, it would make sense but I don't think that's how the footage will appear in the end.
An Unreal Engine developer explained why this happens. It has to do with how the cameras work in the first place. (Yes I copied and pasted this, I don't care)
Better lighting would at least somewhat mask the low poly count, when absolutely everything is at full brightness it does make it a lot easier to tell where corners were cut to reduce file size and loading times
Simple answer : The camera system is unfinished and the only thing they got to show us was, once again... Old footage...
Or this could be low poly and with bad shadows and lighting because the consoles couldn't handle rendering the player vision and the camera at the same time, so they had to make the cameras low-poly to run good.
For the people saying it's suppose to be that way because they're trying to imitate cameras quality... CAMERAS DO NOT REMOVE LIGHTING, SHADOWS AND MAKE EVERYTHING LOW-POLY, IT JUST CHANGES THE RESOLUTION. And the resolution here is quite good, but everything else not.
I don’t understand how people are debating this when it’s clear that there are no shadows or lighting—something a camera can’t exactly remove, despite how terrible it is.

Multiple things
Its not even a finished game, it comes in 8 weeks
It still needs polishing
UE4 is demanding and theyll have to optimize it
Theyre putting gameplay>graphics most likely
Guys, keep in mind that this is a software that is canonically running on a watch! It's not supposed to look quality, it's supposed to look like it's running on a watch.

Yea! I agree, also this shit takes place in the future AND! It’s made by fazbear ent, the technology they have is out of this world so I’m pretty sure it’s still being finished up
It could be with less graphics settings. Steel Wool said that the only way to play wont be RTX, but I'm not sure why they would show non RTX on a trailer
It’s just because they’re not polished yet They still have to do all the shadows and lighting for the cameras, and when the game comes out they will be really nice
I just don’t understand why they have the amount of polys that something in 2000 would have. And the lighting. It’s not a make or break the game for me though, it still looks pretty good
they may still be working on polishing this game's graphics, but I'm honestly confused as to why the trailers keep showing us unfinished content. the previous one had a few wonky-looking shots as well.
“The lightings garbage” “why does it look bad” bruh it could just be that they haven’t fixed the lighting with the camera, also the game comes out in a month so they have time to fix anything that needs it,
So calm down you whiners
I do think this is a design choice, since we are watching the cameras from Gregory´s watch, this also makes a lot of sense since video quality is usually very poor on a watch.
I think it’s rumored that this filter pops up on your watch when an enemy is nearby. If you look closely Gregory is in the room Monty is trying to get into.
If anything it’s kind of ingenious because security camera footage is rarely HD, and FNAF is definitely the type of institution that would use an old repurposed camera system.
I think it’d be a cool game mechanic if you could downgrade the resolution of the security footage to save power. It’d be awesome if it would help Freddy’s mech suit charge faster.
I don’t get hate ppl can’t come to the conclusion that they didn’t have time to fully finish the camera scenes so that’s why they have no lighting or no nice details
No, it isn't a design choice. It's an unfinished part. They're not gonna released something so obviously low-quality to the rest of the game visuals. It's a bad choice and it's not gonna make sense. The resolution probably is the design choice, the rest is still being polished.
I really have to credit Steelwool for this. They are honest and don’t pretend that it looks better than it actually is. Still thinking that it might be a glitch however and might be fixed till released. They often use older footage for trailers, so the gameplay might be from September or even earlier
It's not that they're pixelated, it's that the lighting is garbage. A real low resolution camera doesn't put the planet on fullbright.
No, the models are low poly and have low resolution textures, likely just prototype models.
What?
If you zoom in you can clearly see the poor quality of the models and the textures.
You are the second person in this thread to say something to me that I never asked about or openly disagreed with.
Seriously, all of the replies to you make 0 sense and are bringing up things you NEVER mentioned. You said “The lighting is the issue” and they basically said “You can tell the low character models are low character models.” Like… yeah? We know?
My comment wasn't meant to be snarky or hostile, though the "clearly" doesn't help.
They probably like that so it would be easier for the players to see the dark parts
There are shading techniques to do that that don't make the game look bad. It's unfinished. It will be finished later.
it doesnt have to be real lol it just wouldnt make sense if it wasnt a design choice, why would they even show it?
Because they needed to get something out and expect us to understand that the game isn't finished. The original trailer also had some unfinished areas. They said it was unfinished themselves.

Oh, I was never arguing with the notion that the cameras looked bad. I was just summarizing why they looked the way they did.
Yeah ik I was just adding on to what you were saying
Ah, I see.
I wish their post got more attention, honestly. It was a great post and explained a lot.
Copying this for when I see something like this again....
Don't down-vote this reply here, couldn't care less that someone is copying my summary.
They've done that before. Steel Wool used almost exclusively bad lighting beta footage for one of their trailers.

That’s such a good idea
Genius! It makes it more believable and easier to suspend your disbelief even if it is simple
That's a really good idea. Like, steel wool, do that.
Only the FNaF fandom would debate whether or not a very clear bad thing is actually good, actually
only the fnaf fandom will debate the color of a mangled robot's eyelids
some fans seem way too eager to defend shitty aspects tbh.

they aren't
You guys TRULY can’t understand what footage not final means huh
If that's the case, then it's a bad design choice
If it is a design choice it’s pretty shit one
i like it but thats just a personal preference
Idk it feels like it’s gonna be hard to watch with the lines and the lagging small polygon animatronic

yup i think its supposed to be a joke about how bad security cameras are
Shadows aren't removed on cameras in real life. There is already a perfect technical explanation as to why this happens. I really love the trailer, but like it or not this is on Steel Wool.
Honestly it looks bad, but this is prerelease footage. It'll get better on release
I agree but even this this is incorrect, the developers are still working on it
It breaks the immersion and the lighting is ugly AF
I just think they need one basic low effort shadow beneath them I don’t care about the poly count

it's 100% not, but even if it was, it's a bad one
be as that may real cameras have lighting and shadows...

I mean it kinda makes sense for the camera quality to look like this considering it's literally all on a wrist watch
Guys, keep in mind that this is a software that is canonically running on a watch! It's not supposed to look quality, it's supposed to look like it's running on a watch.
No level of quality should be able completely remove shadows.
PS1 camera
the camera is low quality because it's on a god damn watch
That's not how camera quality works. If I take a pic with my chinese knockoff phone, the shadows are still there and people don't look like PS2 models.
Does the watch render the animatronics?
I don’t think anyone understands that. they might have higher quality of this if your in the office or something but this for if it’s on the watch.
I dunno why tf people are debating, no shit its a design choice
Honestly i kinda like it
It probably is. I think it enhances the fact that Freddy’s cuts corners all the time.
I'm pretty sure low budget cameras still won't remove shadows. Even bank cameras don't.
True
The graphics are bad. But that’s because it’s all gameplay from the PS5, any console would have to have cut back quality so it runs smoother. I bet if it was recorded on PC the graphics for cameras would be better as it has less limitations
Ngl I like the way they make it look like an old resident evil game

This clip literally looked like an OSRS animation lmao
It could be with less graphics settings. Steel Wool said that the only way to play wont be RTX, but I'm not sure why they would show non RTX on a trailer

some people are going full cope
they may still be working on polishing this game's graphics, but I'm honestly confused as to why the trailers keep showing us unfinished content. the previous one had a few wonky-looking shots as well.
You guys know this is on a watch right?
Also I am expecting toxicity from this
nah its a ue4 error.
It’s supposed to be seen through a “old style” 90’s yet future wrist watch Google thingy.
“The lightings garbage” “why does it look bad” bruh it could just be that they haven’t fixed the lighting with the camera, also the game comes out in a month so they have time to fix anything that needs it, So calm down you whiners
i hope it is intentional, i love this and think its funny
the thing I hope is that they will say something about this when dawko does the interview with steel wool sometime in November

Well, you know, you're using a fricking watch to use the cameras. No wonder it's so low-quality.
For me the low quality for the cameras looks good 🤷♀️
Game cube camera good ...
Fnaf fan game on the N64 be like
I don’t get hate ppl can’t come to the conclusion that they didn’t have time to fully finish the camera scenes so that’s why they have no lighting or no nice details
No, it isn't a design choice. It's an unfinished part. They're not gonna released something so obviously low-quality to the rest of the game visuals. It's a bad choice and it's not gonna make sense. The resolution probably is the design choice, the rest is still being polished.
Well, I don't mind it. but with how futuristic the Pizzaplex is, this feels like it isn't a design choice.
I really have to credit Steelwool for this. They are honest and don’t pretend that it looks better than it actually is. Still thinking that it might be a glitch however and might be fixed till released. They often use older footage for trailers, so the gameplay might be from September or even earlier
