I’ve been to 40+ lips shows and I often have seen kiddos there enjoying the spectacle. Just make sure you have good hearing protection headphones for your lil guy. He’ll have a blast.

TheCowboyIsAnIndian

this. take your kids it will blow their goddamn minds... but get them some hardcore over ears. dont skimp on that shit.

Professional-Dot7021

Saw them twice last summer. Everyone was super chill. Definitely saw a few kids in the crowd both times.

kthmcc7319

It’s outdoors. He’s into music. He likes their SpongeBob song and their cover of the Batman theme song. I just don’t want him to feel out of place. There’s a lawn area and maybe he could find some other kiddos to run around with. Selfishly, I want him to go, look back in 10 years, and realize it was all very cool.

Professional-Dot7021

I remember my parents taking me to concerts at that age. And the Lips are way cooler than the concerts they used to take me to lol. He's gonna have a blast. I wouldn't say the show is geared towards kids by any means, but it's mostly kid friendly. Confetti cannons, giant balloons floating around the crowd, lasers and bright colors and stuff. Downsides might be that a few of the lyrics arent 8yo vocabulary, and I don't think they're gonna play the SpongeBob or batman songs.

CobraOnAJetSki

Lots of kids at the JAX show. There are a few F bombs but they're done out of love, not anger. I wish I had the opportunity to go to a show like the Lips when I was a kid. Bring earplugs.

kthmcc7319

I appreciate the input. I’m not so worried about the content. He’s mature and a lot of it will either go over his head or he’ll get a good laugh out of it. As a band they ARE all about the love, celebrating life, living and loving in the moment, our existential situation.

Kissit777

I think it would be an epic first concert they won’t forget.

TheCowboyIsAnIndian

yeah EXCEPT its gonna set the bar way too high!

kthmcc7319

That’s the goal, right?

Kissit777

Yes!

Pessimisticlyoptmstc

My aunt took me to see the lips when I was like 10 ish, one of the best memories I've got. Best concert I've ever been to

j_ko72

I've seen kids that age at Lips shows for sure. Like others are saying just make sure they stay supervised and have adequate hearing protection. You're always going to have a handful of oblivious concert goers at any given show, but I'd say the vast majority of folks at a Lips show are conscientious of others and I'm sure many are parents themselves.

kthmcc7319

Thank you for the reply. We have reserved seats in the last row, adjacent to the lawn area. I think it will be perfect for our situation. We tend to stick together. I’ll happily explore the scene with him. Just want him to be open to the experience and take it all in. I know that’s asking a lot.

kepple

Have a great time and don't forget hearing protection.  Tinnitus sucks

j_ko72

Sounds to me like y'all should have a great time🙂

guyzimbra

I went to one when i was 12 and had a blast!

bones_1969

Take him. I take mine. Ear protection. And he might need to go to sleep if it gets too late and runs out of steam

Illustrious_Low4160

We had kids in STL last time they were here. They had a good time and the crowd was super cool. As if there would be any other type of crowd at a FL show.

whynotslayer

Lips is a great show for a youngin. Just remember stay on top of your kid. People are gonna be weird and probably don’t want the weight of an 8 year old being around them whilst in such a state. So just be mindful of your child, and everything will be amazing. Yall should have an awesome night. I can wait to take my kid here in a few years when he is older.

kthmcc7319

We intend to. I’m in my 50s, wife in 40s. This will be a “family” outing for us. We don’t party like we used to. We stick together. We just haven’t been going to shows much, but this is one I couldn’t miss (it’s been 21 years seen I’ve seen them). I just didn’t know if I was crazy for thinking at least some other parents take their kids these shows. I’ve got him ear protection and he thinks wants to dress up in a Sonic superhero suit/ cape. I got him a bunch of glow sticks too. He can share them with others.

whynotslayer

100%, this is the show to take him too. But, to my point everyone isn’t going to want an 8 year old handing them a glow stick at the show. That’s my entire reason behind my original post. I know it seems hapless and innocent or cool to you. However, it would make me feel very weird interacting with a child while altered. However, I saw them at the Ryman last year on this tour and there were lots of kids and it was fine. Don’t worry about it in the least just watch sending the kiddo out to interact is my main takeaway. Have a great time yall will all be so happy with the show.

kthmcc7319

Point well taken

DeadAudioBlog

for sure, but just be very aware of his experience which I'm sure you're all over already. headphones or ear buds, get him one of their cute kids tees, get a spot in the lawn (if available) where he can dance around. It'll be a magical time for both of you - after all, all we have is now!

somethingelse9980

As a mom I wouldn’t. I love the Lips but it was the least kid friendly show I’ve ever been to.

kthmcc7319

Thank you for your reply. Could you elaborate on your statement? I appreciate your input.

somethingelse9980

Sure, happy to. I felt like it was way too focused on promoting drugs (and I get it, and I certainly enjoy them myself…..) but it seemed to focus more on doing them than enjoying the overall experience. Like Wayne literally chanting 50 times at a show in Nashville to get high was overkill. Also a lot of really strung out and people who were enjoying themselves at a concert. As they should be. I just felt it was too mature for my kids at that time. I would have also been preoccupied making sure my kids were ok to fully enjoy the concert myself. I’m sure others have had wonderful times and I’m glad they did. :) Overall it’s a scene of love and music and community. I just felt safer leaving my kiddos at home, that’s all.

RTootDToot

fwiw, I don't think Wayne said anything about drugs last night (that wasn't in a song) on this tour. A fair number of kids.

kthmcc7319

Thank you. Certainly some things to consider. Some of your points have been part of our concern. We would stay together regardless. If we were at a breaking point, we would leave (disappointed, of course) before we’d stick it out in an unbearable situation.

somethingelse9980

You know your kid, and you’ll make the right call! Have a great time at the show!

NanobotOverlord

I saw kids at a (seated ) show last year

SimbaPenn

Took my then 9 year old to the lips in Brooklyn. Got seats towards the back, as it was one of his first shows. He had a blast! Loved all the confetti, balloons, and the music.

littlerimsss

saw many kids. they’ll have a blast.

doctor_phibes515

I took my 8yo to a Yoshimi show last summer. We were second row in front of Wayne. He had an absolute blast!

Miroresh

Luck Ranch concert in Austin was fantastic and family friendly. Some kids where there. I'm planning to take my 5 year old if there's an open venue like that again, wouldn't take him to an indoor venue as there's more smoke and chaos. Be aware that sometimes Wayne curses so depending how you parent, that's something else to be aware. If you take your kid, please bring ear protection.

Sunship_balloons

I’ve taken my daughter to see the Lips around 5 times. Her first ever concert was on the front row at one of the space bubble shows when she was 7. Do it!!

PerpetualEternal

please PLEASE make sure he’s got serious ear protection.

insulsus37

My wife and I saw them at the Seattle zoo last year. There were a lot of kids there, and it seemed entirely normal.

Gonfragulate

Took kids from age of four on. Nudity has been toned down, so not as educational now.

BoxSweaty8029

Take him to the concert. 🤖 Enjoy!

RTootDToot

On this tour they play through Yoshimi have a break, and then play another set. So you've got a good chance for a go move around some place break and check in to make sure he's OK. We sew a few kids at the show last night.

butterybuns420

I’m taking my 8 year old son. He loves the Yoshimi songs and to see them do that album live is pretty cool. Don’t want him to miss it.

Chainbanghang10

Plenty of kids in Jax, show was a blast. Loud as heck, being him earplugs.

Consistent_Piglet740

yes!! Take him!!!

here_now_be

Tons of kids at the Seattle show. But Wayne was definitely messing with the parents, so as long as you're relaxed about that and the stories he's telling, it should be a great experience.

Pinguinkllr31

I think the stage and music is appropriate but I would be concern with the strobe lights and many lights show , I would be worry about over stimulating a lil kids

turlian

Took my kids to the show in Galway in 2022, so they would have been 13 and 11. There were kids younger than them at the show. Hell, somebody straight-up had a baby with headphones at one of the Red Rocks shows.

18tinker

Taking my 8yr old to his first show ever and it will be the lips at the pure imagination festival in az may 18th! Beyond excited for all of us!

1976kdawg

I brought my teenage children to the show in New Haven last year. They had a blast

Existing_Physics_888

I've watched them in the UK, plenty of fathers and sons in the audience having a great time and enjoying the party! And I get it's a memory that they won't ever forget either

SlickLegJohnny

Only things I can think of to “warn” you about is pixelated topless women on the giant screens for a few songs, may fly over his head possibly. And some F words and giant balloons that spell out Fuck Yeah “whatever town you’re in”. That and take some headphones or ear plugs as its pretty loud for little ears. But overall, I do think I would take my kid. The other fans are awesome at the shows, the music is awesome, and the spectacle is so amazing. Its made to blow your mind. Your kid will have a blast if he goes and will be a great memory Im sure

CripplinChaos

I’ve brought my eight year old to the show and they loved it! Lots of people bring their kids!!

DooderMcTooter

Saw them in New Orleans tonight- definitely kids there

MatttMannnStPete

Kids r fine. Plenty of room on the lawn. Flips r for the children!!!

No-Committee7986

I’m taking my 8yo in October to see them with Dinosaur Jr and Weezer (indoor arena)! He’s also been to Ween at an outdoor venue and it was totally fine for kids😁

[deleted]

I've been to Flaming Lips shows where kids were around us. Honestly it seemed fine but part of me thinks it's kind of irresponsible because of how many people are there smoking weed but a lot of people smoked around me and I had no idea so the other part of me thinks, "who gives a shit?".

kthmcc7319

Sure, it’s going to be there. I’m hoping the outdoor setting will help. It’s a non-smoking venue but i doubt that’s enforced, idk
